Hello & welcome to a new episode. In this week's episode we head to Portsmouth to go and record a legend of a barnfid, a FORD CAPRI 2.8 LASER.
This is a permitted visit. The capri belonged to the owner's late father, who sadly departed early this year. Amy, his daughter, has reluctantly put the capri and many other vehicles up for auction with no reserve. This is a very rare opportunity to acquire, in my opinion, one of the cleanest examples. I've seen the ford capri is in exceptional condition, with one or two marks here and there. After all, this is a barn find, so it will come with characteristics from being laid dormant for many years. Having said that again, this Ford will clean up extremely well and will make someone a very happy owner. With thanks to Amy and her family for allowing me to come and do a video on her Father's Capri, And a huge thank you to Jonathan at (humbert & ellis auctions ltd) for thinking of me and getting me permission to do the episode too.

Morning all
That Capri is gorgeous and a proper barn find .
Perfect candidate for a restoration
I don't think I've ever met anyone who doesn't like a Capri
Apart from the new Ford Capri that doesn't look anything like a Capri!
Hi imstokze don't normally comment. But this 2.8is up the road from where I live. Obviously not going to mention location. And car is completely genuine I can remember the farmer driving it must be probably 20 odd years ago. Everytime I passed him. He used to put his hand up. When I had my 2.8 injection Capri. The colour is cobolt blue over silver. But everything he had was kept immaculate just hope it goes to the right person and obviously will go for good money more than I can afford 👍
Wow, that's a very early four speed, with the Rupert bear interior , not seen one in that condition for a long long time ,most impressive buddy 😲👍
It's not a early 4 speed at all.
It's one of the last of the capri 2.8i which all had 5 speed box's.
My uncle who was a Ford dealer back in the 70s and 80s told me.
@@MavAuto-Pete wouldn't listen to him Sony , if you're all that worried about it go on Google & do some research!!.
@@MavAuto-Pete The 2.8 injection Capri was made from '81-'86. It was a four speed with check interior from '81 to early '83. Five speed from '83-'86 with Shark Grey interior in fabric then half leather from '84 to full leather in Dec '86.
This is a July '81 car which makes this the earliest of the 2.8 injection produced. Many of the low numbered 'W' plates were press demonstrators so this is really is an early car.
Still remember the very first one I saw brand new sitting in a Ford dealership in Manchester.
Thanks again fella
I love this format, focusing on one car in thorough detail & permitted access, not that your usual format isn't great, it's just nice to hover over one car for a while :)
Thanks so much i couldn't agree with you more, This is what i love giving these cars the time they deserve, Thanks so much for your feedback, Thank asa always for watching
Absolutely brilliant brother! Love seeing you get the permissions and sharing these cars available for auction, giving these gems a new home. Your drone footage (the little bits you've done) have always been awesome. Appreciate you my friend 🤠🌲🍃
I have a Y reg early 5 speed in red that I bought in August 1991. Still the best car I've ever had. Hope to be on the road in summer after being laid up for over 3 years.
Nice one, enjoy
Good one bro 👌 Capri's a nice thing!! The button you weren't sure of is the hazard light switch 😁👍
Wow an awesome classic deserves to be loved again and back on the road let’s hope the auction goes well
Awe what a lovely thing ,I used to have a Capri 2L Ghia of that era ,gold with black roof , I would so love to own this one , I used to work for a Ford garage back in the day and prepped many of these for sale always loved that colour combo with the pepper pot alloys , top drawer again mate 👍
The start was absolutely hilarious, walking through the woods with them Tight bleached jeans, like you were going to a night club, then the drone smashed into the tree, great comedy keep up the good work
Beautifull car, reminds me of mine, i had a black 2.8i special, loved her, all my mates had modern cars, i always wanted one, think i was 21? back in 1999? 2000?
What's worse, is the guy i sold it to, wrapped it round a tree.
one day il have another....
Must be one of the earliest 2.8's around, the last 3.0s was on a W plate.
There were a few 3.0S that made it to 'X' - mostly 1981 but some were registered in '82.
What an absolute gem, I love your vids, nice one and thank you for bringing them into the light Stokze.
Wowwww Ford Capri!!!
Morning Stu,
Awesome to see such a classic 2.8i. It's also very nice of you to help people out.
As mentioned before it's a win win situation for everyone 🤜🤛
That must be one of the first 2.8i on a W plate . Not sure I’ve seen a W plate one before. Normally start on a X plate if my memory serves me correct. Perhaps it’s a early press car ?
(Probably more valuable as an early vin number) - when is the auction taking place?
I hope the Ford Capri finds a good new home. This car deserves the TLC needed to get her back on the road again. I believe the 2.8 Injection was the fastest Ford on the road in its day. Thanks for showing us this car, a true Ford lover’s dream.
Jesus, It was nuts at the time, some acceleration,
Another great find someone is gonna love that capri keep the videos coming mate we never know what were gonna see next thats what keeps your channel so interesting keep at it mate
Another gr8 vid Stu, nice to know this rare motor is gonna be seen back on the road for a good few more years to come!😃😎👌
Wow that is a beautiful capri I wish I had the money to buy her 🥰
Morning Stu stunning example I'm a ford man too good luck to Amy and family in the sale the Capri deserves to be a pride and joy again ♥️👍👍👍
Great vid Stu I had an early 2.8 with 4 speed box great car .
Very nice car I wouldn’t say no 🤔
That odd wing just adds to the character 👍
Wow that was an amazing video ,takes me back to my own Capri days ,is awesome that your getting the permission visits ,liked the intro in the forest too.
Very nice stu she's a buet just a bit of TLC and will be brought back lovely, the Capri I have always liked is the brooklands also a 2.8 very rare now, great video stu. 👊
Same interior slightly different interior to my 1981 Capri 2.8. It's a good solid car but it needs to be restored. The Bosch K Jetronic fuel injection system doesn't like dampness either. The upholstery needs work too. That is my favourite colour combination in a Capri 2.8 I hope who ever buys it returns it to it's former glory !
That would be the Mercury 1981
2.8 was the only 1 to have imo, nice to see a clean 1 not rotting away,be interested to see how much this goes for cos recently classic fords been going for huge money, permission based is way to go & tbh its free publicity for sellers & auction house
You should follow up on who buys these cars at auction if possible and see how the restorations are going on them or what ever there doing to bring them back to life 😁
Hi bud, yeah that's the idea so hopefully will get some soon, cheers
Stokze... 27k to 36k in weeks!! Keep up the good work 👍
Thanks mate appreciate it, yeah she's growing steady 👍🏽
Great vid as usual! Unusual interior. I had an A reg exactly the same with grey Recaro interior. I bet there's loads of these cars tucked away in ppls garages!
Absolutely brilliant video stokzey ❤️ 👍 what a beautiful example wish it was mine brilliant
Nice to see you again , have a great Easter😊!
Great video and car, these were iconic back in the day
Wow …..😮 now Stokze a True Classic Never goes out of style … That Ford Capri is still drivable. Well the owner took that good care of it. Somebody Should rescue it mate… not much of those are left on the road nor in the world today. Good Video👍👍🙌🙌😎😎
Flipping BRILLIANT my uncle had one exactly the same I just sent him a link to watch 🤩
Brilliant video my first of many 2.8 s was a 4speed,wish I had it now, they still are the car you always promised yourself,be interested to see what it makes, should be at least £15000+.
A brilliant video of the 2.8 Capri top car back in the day 👍🏻
Great video, good work sir. The Capri 2.8i is in pretty decent condition as a barn find and on a W plate too.
I've got a similar 1982 Capri 2.8 injection on an X plate also a 4 Speed. They are pretty rare these days.
I have to correct you on your description here though, as you incorrectly state it's a Capri 2.8i Laser. This Capri is a 2.8 injection powered by a Cologne V6 engine, it's NOT a Laser. The laser variants were only produced in 1.6 and 2.0 with 4 cylinder single Overhead Cam Pinto engines and with a carburettor. The Lasers didn't have fuel injection.😉
Keep up the good work with the barn find discoveries 👍😁
What a great find in a beautiful colour 🤩
Hope it fetches a good price for its owners. 🤞
Holy Stone Drones are 👍for the money, and 2.0L Sports & 2.8i's with a weighted bootload was my cuppa tea in 1990-95.
I've had capris every day since the summer of 1986. I think there were a handful of "W" reg 2.8i 's. A few were press cars if I remember one ended in "2W".
So what was your job then Ken?
@@philtucker1224 Hi Phil. My job at the time I bought the first capri (a mk2 1.6 xl) was an apprentice vehicle body builder and repairer. My other capri I bought in October 2004 is a MK1 3 litre GT that is now an ETCC ford "works" touring car replica in blue and white with 16 inch 3 piece split rims and a box arch body kit with a duck tail spoiler.
@@kennethfinnegan2937 Very nice! (My wife and I had six Capris during the seventies and early eighties, before we switched to Sierras. All really great cars!) I think we must be on at least our 20th Ford by now! 👍
That capri looks gorgeous reminds me of few of my old 1s ....had to put slabs in boot in snow so it would not go sidey ways when it felt like it thou lol
Hey stokes I'm a follower from very far away and the drune did good I like your stuff so keep going don't stop. I'm from Vermont and your one of the best to show the cars that are super rare here and not so rare there don't stop what your doing I love it's the only way for me to see your country peace bro
Oh wow no thank you for watching, Honestly means more then you realise, Thank you so much for choosing my channel to be your main one, Thank you
I was lucky enough to have owned two 2.8 injection in my younger days and they live in my blood forever, they were very fast in their day but hated corners , bag of sand in the boot helped lol , when I had mine the police had a 3L sport with the big blue light on top what was no match for the 28i
Hope some one bring that baby back to life
Wow what a find 👏 absolute 💎 car. In amazing condition to
Cracking find maté unbelievable that keep it up 👍🏻
reminds me of my old 2.8i injection special from 1985 mine was the lighter blue one with the 7 spoke alloys on it and the half leather grey interior i sold it around 1998 ish with only 22,000 miles on it …in hinsight i should have kept it ! along with a sierra cosworth i had too! oh the irony!! look at what they go for now!
The blue is "Cobalt" blue with blue "Carla" trim and crushed velour on the outer sections. Carla was the original project name for the Capri, from the development stage.
Loved the capri back in the day when I was 18 years old I had a 2 litre capri ghia white with black vinyl roof and then years after had a laser 1600 the bad thing with them back end had no weight and it was easy to lose it 😅but obviously fun, that is a lovely 2.8 thank you for sharing fella
@commentsAlwaysDeletedbyYT definitely didn't think about it like that lol
I never really liked Capri's for myself but that is really tidy.
The video worked for me I think it's a good way to go
You're killing me again!!
Best regards
Klaus from Düsseldorf
Had a E reg 2.8i 22 years ago,another one I should have kept😢
That's a VERY early 2.8i, you will not see many on a W reg! great potential. also, I wonder why they put the seats in wrong way? drivers seat in passenger side and vice versa!
Tbh i thought exactly the same as i was confused for a second to why the handle was on the inside, and i would of expected recaros in this model, Thanks for watching
I'm guessing it's because the original drivers side bolsters wore away like they did and a good passenger one was used as a replacement.
@@ImStokze The seats are "Recaro style" on this model/year. But I believe the later 5 speed gearbox models and the 2.8i Specials had Recaro labelled seats.👍
@@paulbarber8450 I thnk the 4 speed seats are genuine Recaro but, like the Fishnet Recaros in my 3.0S are not branded as such.
The 3.0S option for Recaro seats was £172.
I have a 406 coupe with electric, leather Recaros and they aren't branded either.
My 5 speed 2.8i (1984) seats were branded as Recaro as were my friends '85 Injection Special.
The 280 has the brand embossed on the leather.
Can I just say your current aspect of video has been the 1st video that fits on my front z fold 4 screen full screen
As always great content but that made my day
Oh wow, I do hope thats a good thing chap, Thanks for watching
What a mint capri haven't see 1 in ages there normally rotten as a pear good work stu ford's rule 💯 top job
Good video, love the colour of that capri.
Keep the good work, ready hope you come to Cornwall
I like the drum kit !
I love this car one of my dream cars I hope u get this and save it mate like watching your videos mate your the best
Interesting video enjoyed keep them coming ❤
Great car, remember a mate buying one all those years ago, first time I been up to 140, he wasnt the best driver, sh*t myself, thanks for the video
Bit optermistic 140 .131 if you were lucky .140 tickford turbo
When cars were made to carry a 10 stone man .. ow the good old days 😊…. Nice 👍
Dream find. Nice to see one quality find rather than 20 Rot boxes. 👍
Morning Stu. Thanks for the funds update 😊 What an absolute gem!! She's gorgeous and deserves the love and attention she'll get. Just a bit of feedback for you........I'm loving these one off videos, but prefer the 'off the cuff' finds better, but that's just my personal opinion, don't shoot me 🤣If you're going this way with your content maybe a 70/30 split between the two? Keep 'em coming 😄
Very nice thats a time machine back to the 80s welljell.
Felistasiones a los grandes maestros mecánicos favulosos estraordinario maravilloso son lo mejor del mundo saludos cordiales dé la república de Chile por la razón o la fuerza
Abssolutely love Capris, prefer the Mk1's, but that looks almost mint, W = 80/81? I love your attitude to exploring, same as Beards, Take nothing but photos, leave nothing but footprints, I really hope you get a lot more permissions for your explores.
Thought the same, it dont add up. Earliest 2.8 was an X reg from 1982 onwards. Most early ones saw at time were Y August 82 to end of July 83. I would want to see log book.
W reg August 1980 to July 81would have been the Essex 3ltr
Nice love a capri great vid mate 👍
Despite miner imperfections his is a beautiful car in really good condition
Brilliant love a 2.8 injection very very rare now 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
That old car smell must b strong in the old girl, cool find! 🤔
Extremely rare Capri 2.8i that, not only being on a W reg which only the very early ones were, of which there's probably just a handful left now. But the colour combo is also very rare as well, as it's Cobalt Blue over Strato Silver. Cobalt Blue being a 6 month production run colour only. I would have it if I had the room with the other Capris I've got. I would be interested to see how the auction goes.
nice one bud an honest car, the capri was always a bit tail happy on an empty tank two bags of sand in the boot would work a treat to keep the back wheels in check the wing and door etc could be a consequence of this
Great video 🧠💪🙋♂️🙏
Morning buddy another good video 😊
That's a great find. I had a 1980 3 litre S which I totally loved. I would love to own one again.
Great video stu
I real early 2.8i in a rare colour combo too. It should do really well at auction
Beautyful
That brought memories of my own 2.8 . It was Caspian Blue, with pepperpots, 5 speed box.
Unfortunately, my ex wife bought a big pram for our daughter, it was too big for the boot, so A816HSM had to go.
That must have been one of the first 2.8 Capri's as there were many 3.0 registered on W.
nice drone footage!!!
Morning stokzeeeeee
Beautiful ❤
Great find this one and thankyou to Amy and family for allowing you to view and film, awesome example of an early capri and would love to follow the story if they allow you, what else did they have there stu or is that on a different video?cheers 🙂👍
Hi bud its all in tomorrows video, Thanks for watching appreciate your support
Awesome!! What a find, beautiful. She looks just like my old one 😢 Except mine wasn't even in that good condition back in 94' Would love to buy this one, the old days.
Poor drone :( Mines a different model or I would send you some spares.
Did watch this on the day but didn't get chance to comment.
i remember the car well and that is my writing when the fuel filter was changed, also Amys first car was it a green or yellow one which i gave to Edward for her, be nice to see if its about.
Hi buddy, Thanks for your comment appreciate it, the car which i was told was her first car was a blue 4 door fiesta, Its in tomorrow's video chap, Thanks for stopping by...
It’s great it’s survived so well quite an incredible find. I had a really nice 1987 2.8i special in 1997 and even at only ten years old had to get the bodyshop to repair rust on the wings and front panel .
Ace video, take’s me back,I had a black 4 speed 2.8i on an X reg back in 1997,only cost £275 with 6 months t&t 🤯 I hope the sale goes well for the family
300 quid? Couldn't of been much good for that much
Hi stu Those wires sticking out the grill would of been for fog lights. Round ones
Great video thanks.
As somebody who was born in the late 1960's, these cars were the ones many aspired to, when I started driving aged 17.
Personally I was more into Mk1 and Mk2 escorts, and always saw the Capri as an old mans car, a poor imitation of a yank muscle car.
One thing I have to say though, that it is great condition for it's mileage. We think nothing of a car going over 100,000 miles now, or even 150,000.
But back then, the average car was absolutely knackered at 70,000 and ready for the scrapper.
Good to see your hard work is paying off. You will be catching up with your mate Colin soon with all the views :)
That's the plan bud haha, were kinda in competition although he doesn't know it, but not that hes concerned with his amazing hard work and being at 170k haha
Great to see it was a manual box, a capri with auto box is just wrong on so many levels.
nice
will not have too much trouble finding that a new home
Yes bro !
Wow what a beauty. I bet you could stick a fresh battery on it and drive it straight out of that barn??? 👍🙂👍
Very nice mate great video as usual stu 🤔and I’ve got a Capri it goes like shit off a shovel after a strapped a big turbo on to it 😃
Would absolutely love to feature it dude, That would be epic, Thanks for watching chap
TBE Colin will be creaming his nicks at this one. Enjoying the more relaxed stu
My 2 car in 1977, was a 1971 ford Capri v6 gt it was a fast car, when I would bang 2 gear, the car would come off the ground and slide right a foot. Great Car.I sold it , to a man in some place in Europe. I wonder if its still On the road today,To think I sold that car for 3800 dollars back then, It was mint condition.I bought the car off a old couple from Germany, they lived and died here, It just went back home.
The drone is very repairable and I'm sure you are more than capable of doing it yourself.
Lovely bit o' kit. A really level ol' thing. Course, there's what it's worth and what it'll make ane those two ain't necessarily the same. Still, you try finding another one like it.
