It's more than likely nowhere near the top of your list of RUSH songs due to popularity. But you should DEFINITELY listen to "Red Barchetta"
      EPIC
My all time favorite from them hands down
Us RUSH freaks change our favorite song from them every so often. But Red Barchetta is without a doubt the song i hold in the highest regard. A song that builds and builds to an absolute heart racer

Cool story that I have about Queensryche:
While they were touring for Rage For Order (opening for Ratt)...my cousin, myself and a big group of friends drove to Biloxi, Mississippi (from New Orleans) to see the show.
Queensryche blew Ratt off of the stage.
After the show, we all gathered at the Holiday Inn bar and hung out for awhile.
While we were waiting for our drinks to get to our table...Geoff Tate, Chris DeGarmo and Eddie Jackson walked into the bar.
Geoff and Chris were hanging out with their girlfriends/wives.
Eddie Jackson walked up to our table and asked if he could sit with us at our table.
    Really cool guy.
He sat and drank a couple of rounds with us and he didn't even know us.

Geoff Tate is absolutely the best singer I have ever heard live (I haven't seen Paul Rodgers live). It was the tour for this album and that SOB did not falter even a smidgen. Amazing. Flawless. No difference from studio to stage, except he probably sings with even more power live. As much power as Ian Gillan in his prime, and I'm a huge Gillan fan

Weirdly appropriate 32 years later, eh? I was lucky enough to see them with every tour through "Empire" (twice for "Operation: Mindcrime") and they were so tight live. My first "Mindcrime" show was in Jacksonville, Florida. The were opening for Metallica on the "... And Justice For All" tour and Metallica let them play more than 90 minutes. The next year they got to headline for "Mindcrime" and I saw them in Pensacola. They played the entire album (sound effects and video included) then spent another 30-40 minutes playing stuff from earlier albums. As a studio/session musician myself I was in heaven. If you have any interest, check out other songs from "The Warning" ("Roads to Madness" and "NM156" are great) and the criminally-underappreciated "Rage for Order". That album has so many experimental songs and maybe the best of Geoff's vocals. Just my two pennies. Stay safe everyone. Cheers from Florida.

    •  3 года назад

I also saw the Operation Mindcrime tour in ‘89 in Savannah when they opened for Metallica. I took my older daughter to Jacksonville (Florida Theater) in ‘06 to see them perform Mindcrime I and II. They blew me away both times.

Its a stand alone MASTERPIECE and way ahead of its time as far as the ideas, lyrics, social and political statements. I wore that cassette OUT in 1988.
The other thing that I don't hear people say is, on side B, listen to how much louder and pronounced the BASS is. No metal/Hard rock band was doing that in those days...that gave it a groove that just added to an already superb sound.....it truly is a beautiful work of ear-ART.

... or "80s Geoff is the best vocalist". His story/lyrics, by the way. Music by Wilton.
If you want to watch a bunch of singers (Tate, Dio, Halford...) and guitarists (Malmsteen, Lynch, Schon, Murray-Smith..) from that era, the song "Stars" was part of a charity project (like "We are the world" or "Do they know it's Christmas", but metal). It allows you to compare the different approaches to a basic idea of some 80s metal musicians.

This album tells the story of a young man Nicky who gets brainwashed into becoming an assassin for an underground revolution controlled by Dr X, the story starts with Nicky in a mental asylum suddenly remembering everything that has happened, the deaths of Father William and Sister Mary and his struggle to get away from Dr X and his revolution,
it's one heII of a story, in my view the best concept album ever made.

The DVD they released of performing the album live, the songs do not sound as good is they do on the audio CD. The official videos for the songs that were released to MTV for Operation Mindcrime are the ones you want to react to because they sound just like the CD. In 1987 Geoff Tate convinced his band to work on his idea for the project. From looking at the writing credits its looks like once all the members where IN they all lended a hand or a word to the project, Jeff taking the lion share of writing credits. Jeff Recalls during his time spent in Montreal members of the Québécois, a Quebec separatist political movement, were often talking in private and public about their views. You could say the city, heck even the US, was a buzz with talk of Quebec succeeding from Canada. Jeff wrote "The idea for Operation: Mindcrime came in a flood one night as I sat on a well-worn wooden bench in the back of a Catholic Church" Jeff went on to write "I had stayed behind in snow-covered Montreal in the end of the previous tour and the city and its people were my muse. One night in a bar called St. Supice, I met the man who became Dr. X. The cold, calculating, vicious personality of this man still makes me feel uneasy as I write this. His character and alleged involvement with a terrorist organization coupled with other personalities I had met on my travels truly were inspiration for this record."

The only problem I have with reacting to anything from Operation: Mindcrime is that you lose something by not knowing the story. It's hard to appreciate the songs individually without knowing the story as a whole. I know there's RUclips channels out there that have the entire album WITH lyrics. You guys should really sit down and listen to the whole album and follow the story (not necessarily as a reaction for this channel (although that'd be cool) but rather for your own benefit. O:MC is an amazing piece of artistry from beginning to end).

No truer words than these. My question is how relevant are these songs for today. Just in Operation Mindcrime" alone. Instead of "tired of all this B S they keep selling me on T V" Replace T V with the internet. Everybody using everybody making that sale. Got to make a million doesn't matter who dies, how many are perishing for that view count just in selfies alone? This is Operation Mindcrime to the nth exponential. Operation Mindcrime is a musical masterpiece. It has a huge cult following. I would recommend to anyone that is not familiar with the album to do some research on it first because it's a concept album, which is very much like a movie script with characters. Do some research and get to know the characters and the storyline. They are twisted people in a twisted plot and you will be amazed at how Queensryche brings these complex characters to life. It is the ultimate rock opera. I didn't get it the first time I listened to it, but that second time, it hit me, I became addicted to it which is funny because the story revolves around a young man, a Nunn, and a Priest who all have addictions in the shadow of a mafia type leader of an underground revolution with a vision to overthrow the American government and burn the White House Down. It comes complete with a who done it murder and court ordered admissions into a mental institution. When what was just supposed to be business and lust turns to insatiable passionate love that is found on a young man's journey to get away from guilt. Take the journey from the Call of Revolution to the Eyes of a Stranger. Take the dangerous ride and you decide..... Who killed Sister Mary Suite?

I agree Geoff Tate is the GOAT of prog and hard rock. Now... if you haven't yet, check out Elvis from '70 in Vegas. Especially Bridge Over Troubled Water. Also, Aloha from Hawaii, doing My Way, What Now My Love, American Trilogy, and a few others. Then, I'll find out how much you 2 know about talent. I'll subscribe and look forward to more of your videos.

loved the reaction, tnx. yes geoff at his best was hard to beat, the only ones in the 80s that could rival him apart from the obvious maiden and dio, is midnight from crimson glory. try any song from their album Transcendense...

I agree with your comments during the reaction when you said that Tate is the 80s vocalist and that this song is more relevant now than ever. I would go further by saying that Tate is the best metal singer, closely followed by Bruce Dickinson.

You both should review the very next song following up Revolution Calling which is the title track to the album Operation Mindcrime
I believe Chris DeGarmo was the main lyricist with Tate writing a good portion of them as well.
