      @@NinjaNerdOfficial Sir how is this possible, accounting to newer concept 4H+ ions give 1 ATP...

      @@adit27j I think 38 ATP is correct if you ignore energy losses, like in terms of heat and processes inside the mitochondria. But this is just a guess of mine.

    It's my first time saying this in public: I do love biochemistry, but i don't get much grades in it, and when i followed the problem, I discovered that my brain needs to visualize things to understand them clearly + I need to study in details, not just the general concepts. YOU ARE MY LIFE SAVOR! and you helped me to love biochem deeply more than before! Being thankful for you is not enough to describe how you are really amazing..

    A update pls if you can add this to the video it will be great.
    A resent research says that
    1NADH= 2.5 ATP
    1FADH=1.5 ATP.
    So the total ATP generated by all the process is 32 ATP.
    So just try to edit it or add it in the comments or description.

      yes it's true. But remember: 32 ATP is only the total if the cell has the Malat-Aspartat Shuttle. Otherwise you lose 2 ATP during the transport and end up at 30

    Hey I read this in a Biochem text book so just adding it here. About 4 Protons are pumped in at Complex I, 2 Protons at Complex III and 4 Protons again at Complex IV. Synthesis of one ATP molecule by ATP Synthase requires passage of at least three protons. So one NADH would have 10 Protons pumped in and one FADH2 would have 6 Protons pumped in as a part of the chain. And that would give the formation of 3/2.5 ATP from NADH and 2/1.5 ATP from FADH2. Great video as always man. Thanks a lot.

    A great series of videos on the electron transport chain that highlights the complex and innovative cellular machinery required for life. When one considers all the extra complex machinery required to produce glucose from sunlight (light and dark phase of photosynthesis) and convert glucose energy to NADH and FADH2 through the Krebs cycle to feed into the electron transport chain one stands in awe of the intellect and infinite mind of the creator who conceptualized and created all this.

    What Oligomycin shows is that the ETC is not reliant on ATP synthesis (because ETC keeps going even though oligomycin inhibits the ATP synthase).
    If you add DNP which completely uncouples the two processes, ETC activity (measured by O2 consumed) shoots up, and ATP synthesis (measured by ATP sybthesized) remains flatlined
    -
    However, cyanide (CN-) shows that ATP synthesis requires ETC because both processes stop if cyanide is introduced (cyanide inhibits the ETC).
