  • Mustangs and staggered tire set ups go hand in hand as the staggered setup provides the classic muscle car look with meaty tires in the back. While the staggered setup is one of the most common set ups on the Mustang, there are several downsides to running a staggered setup vs square setup.
    While square set ups restrict your ability to run the widest tire possible in the back for traction, it has a lot of benefits in terms of daily driver. Today we will discuss in detail the square vs staggered tire setups for your Mustang.

    I say sqaure is the best route especially if it's your main car if you get a flat you'll need to carry 2 tires because they're different sizes

      Exactly it’s a lot more daily driver friendly but I can see why people go for staggered for max traction and the look

    Hey quick question let’s say I buy a 18x8 + 35 offset wheel and a 18x 8.5 + 35 offset wheel, will both wheels fit the same or will the wheel that’s an 8.5 will poke out a bit more compared to the one that’s a 8 width wheel? ( not for a mustang but for a Mazda 3 )

    • @Red5oh
      @Red5oh  6 месяцев назад

      Yup they both won’t fit the same since one wheel is 8.5 you’ll have a bit of a poke

    I am staggered, fronts 20x9 with 255-35-20 tires and rear 20x10 with 305-35-20 tires. Honestly, I don’t like the look. The tire size needs to be closer. So now I’m switching to front tires 275-35-20 and rears 295-35-20. Rotation is not an issue, the fronts don’t wear plus I have 6400 miles on a 2020 Procharged GT. I don’t drive the car much anyway. For a daily a square setup is probably ideal but not needed on non-daily cars.

    • @Red5oh
      @Red5oh  8 месяцев назад

      Yeah staggered is definitely the way to go for looks and more traction. I originally wanted staggered 305/285. I also wanted A/S tires and no one makes size bigger than 285 for A/S for our cars that’s why I went square to have the widest set up for my needs. What tires do you have and do you have hook with a pro charger? I’m planning on going boost next year so curious if I’d need to run R2 or MT SS or can I still run street tires and have ok traction

      @@Red5oh absolutely, if i put the effort and money in it would be cool to have both options. that way any driving in the winter would be stock square. then as soon as spring is official the staggered back on. but honestly for convenience i’d stay squared 365

  • @chrisw.7039
    @chrisw.7039 7 месяцев назад +1

    I think I’m going to stay staggered but maybe go 20’s with a 1 inch drop so I can maintain standard ground clearance of 19’s on stock springs since it’s a daily. I know this might not be practical for most people with a Mustang , but if you aren’t leaving any marks on the street I feel like the fronts wear faster cause they carry more weight especially if they are summer tires. Also fronts do the turning so you probably rub off a little more rubber when turning than you do on the rear wheels, that is, if you not smoking them. One other thing. If you wanna rotate your tires yourself make sure you get tires that aren’t directional. I got my Mustang in January so by the time it’s time to get new tires I will purchase some nicer rims over the factory performance pack rims and will put another set of summers on the new rims and all seasons on the factory ones for the winter months.

    • @Red5oh
      @Red5oh  7 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah 20s would look amazing with 1 inch drop! The rims I wanted did not come in 20s otherwise I would've considered it as it would allow me to 305 instead of 285. 285 is the highest for all season tires if going 19 inch wheels. Definitely look into steeda springs when the time comes, I have been really impressed with their drivability but also the improved stance and handling

    • @Red5oh
      @Red5oh  10 месяцев назад

      Thanks! I got the wheels from LMR. As long as offset is around +35 for fronts you can run 285 without a problem. You can do 305 but you’ll have to play with the offset and camber.

    The rotation is a wash cause in the staggered setup you don’t have to replace the front tires for a long time.

    • @Red5oh
      @Red5oh  10 месяцев назад

      That’s a good point. You’d just be replacing rears which would be wide thus expensive. But yes not much difference once you factor that in

  • @CrazyGreek80
    @CrazyGreek80 5 месяцев назад +2

    I did the mustang thing for years and absolutely love them but what I found with bigger tires comes bigger prices and to daily drive with such large tires is crazy. You will get 20 maybe 25k out of the rears which is fine if you rotate but the staggered, I found I went through two sets of rear tires before needing to buy a front set. I feel like the OE 255 up front and 276 in the rear would be more suitable for daily driving. Then again if it's your weekend car then go for it.😎😎

    • @Red5oh
      @Red5oh  5 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah for any decent sticky tire you will burn through rears very quickly. I am curious how long the square set up lasts me with regular rotations. So far I have 10k miles on them with 2 rotation and they look pretty much new.

    • @Red5oh
      @Red5oh  Месяц назад +2

      @@marswrld2489 I see. Unless you have performance pack your wheels are 8.5 which means 255 is the widest you can run in the rear. With PP1 (9.5 inch wheel) you can do 275s. Typically staggered set ups look great when they are 305s which means you would need an 11 inch wheel that stock mustang wheels don't have unless PP2. So do a proper staggered set up you'd need aftermarket wheels
