If the 2016 Mustang Gt is manual and modified to 460 hp, it has lower gears than 2018 to 2024 for gas mileage reasons, that's why it's faster. I have a bone stock 2016 Gt with manual and I'm going to cold air intake it and tune it to be at about 460 hp and 420 lbs of torque. The 2015 to 2017 Mustang Gts are golden, they don't tick and shift better in my opinion than the newer and are more reliable. Great job driving Sam.

You have the rev it hard to get the torque and yet I can break every UK speed limit (70mph) in 2nd gear, 3rd gets exciting at around 85mph etc. Given the Coyotes torque characteristics it really needs much shorter gearing on the manual for any sensible fun on the road

Interesting outcome. Owning a ‘15 GT myself, I’ve often wondered how much difference is there in speed and quickness. Pretty much, the ‘16 either beat the ‘24 outright or hung right with you with just a few inches to a couple feet behind. Both being manuals, this boils down to driver experience with each machine. The ‘24, having many more horses should (at least on paper) be faster. Personally, I don’t like the direct injection Ford added to the Coyote. Obviously it’s not a major advantage and IMHO will just build up more carbon making the new design run worse as it ages. Direct injection is fine but, I’d rather be blown LOL.
Not sure why , but the 18+ coyote engines are more problematic on the used wholesale side. You can routinely find 250k+ 17 f150s that are quiet, however most of the 18-19 seem to have an audible irregular tick, even with low miles. Think ford calls it "typewriter tick" . It is allegedly on all generations of the coyote but I only routinely see it on the 18+
No its pretty common, more so on the 2018+. Its either the 32v powertrain or in the 18'+, Direct Injection. Sadly the 24's get GM's dreaded AFM cylinder deactivation which is not good.
While I could get used to the 2024’s exterior design I still much prefer the exterior of the 2023 Mustang. But when it comes to the interior I simply LOATHE the dash of the 2024. It now looks like a damned Kia with its juvenile video arcade instrumentation. Thats not a car interior for adults, but for attention challenged adolescents.
Yup I got a 2016 5.0 gt exuast only 6 speed manual and pulled on a auto 24 from the start then after about 70 he held the gap but couldn’t catch up and I have 140k miles very sad🙄😂
6th gen Camaro owner here 🙋 everyone in the car scene has seen the same outcome. A 20hp jump to the seventh generation mustang (which honestly is the same chassis), is underwhelming. And then pointing to the darkhorse, a more expensive package that aimed to be a "hellcat killer" that is only 14 hp more than the regular '24 mustang GT?!? This American car market is disgusting.
I'm really in the ballpark. That I will never sell my 2019 S550 with the PP1 add on. The car is a monster. Just turbo'd BMW's usually pull on me on the highway. Crazy what they can produce in power. But I'm happy to see my girl can still beat the new kids on the block.
The S650 is a blast to drive and the tech improvements make it worth the money. These race videos sway one way or the other depending on what the producers narrative is. Get the S650.
Buying an used S550 Mustang GT in good condition (lucky if got at mint condition) is totally worth every penny instead buying this S650 as brand new. Trust me, lol.
I agree. Last week I purchased a low mileage 2020 Oxford White Mustang GT. Initially thought about the new s650 but I was out the door with the s550 for 27k.
@@AaronRobinProductions Funny when I bought my 2016 Base GT "new" in Canada it was 47K out the door and heard that Lebanon Ford in the US was selling them superchargerd with a warranty for around 50K brand new! It's amazing to see how much less US car buyers are paying for the same cars...
@@peterwho9380 Still way better than in India lol. Here Mustang GT is in high demand that, even used mustangs (5.0 GT Fastback) are being sold for around $90K. Ford quitted India couple years back, no way of getting a brand new from showroom. When Ford was there, selling mustangs directly by themselves in India, it was $110K out the door. And what's more interesting is, the gas price. Mustang usually gives around 15 MPG on average and here one gallon gasoline costs $4.6 💀 and i guess i need not to tell about the road conditions of India, how terrible it is 💀💀 with lots of speed bumbs..
@@peterwho9380I think you’re forgetting about the exchange rate . $50k USD is about $66k CAD , I’m assuming you could get the supercharger installed for the $19k difference and technically be at the same price .

I dislike roll races because they always have a margin of error of about half a car. It’s so difficult to line them up perfectly that one car is always slightly ahead before starting. In my opinion any roll race that’s within half a car or less is a tie.
The best part about roll races is it becomes obvious who is making more power. I had a run with a Mustang GT a few nights ago where I started a few cars behind and I ended the race nearly beside him. I lost by all standards of a roll race but he was not interested in a rematch. 🙂
I feel bad for the 2024 buyers. If sales lag, Ford will see the wave of underwhelming videos like this and beef it up so the 2025 is a tangible difference. You can’t go backwards.

Other people are allowed to have faster and nicer cars than you! I will likely pick up a 2018+, but cant decide between the manual and auomatic. Then the decision will shift to which blower to put on it.
Shifting is fun for a while but gets really old quick and there’s no consistency if you’re a guy that enjoys racing. People will argue to the grave that they can be the same every time but being that we’re all human that is impossible. Go with the 10 speed, it’s consistent and top end is pure joy!!!
Gotta wait until the refresh to get the updated engine and more performance in the gen 7. As is it's literally just a gen 6. I wouldn't buy a gen 6 because: 1 theyve held their value fairly well 2 they look outdated and 3 you should have no problem getting a really good deal on a new gt. There are brand new GTs for 40k right now if you look hard enough
Wow can’t believe this channel is this big when he doesn’t even know a clutch definitely helps with shifting. On top of that the tune helps raise the rpm limiter… And he says the gen 2 has a muffler so does the gen 4 coyote xD. 15 minute research can fix all this.
The older mustang would have done better against the M2. Seeing the outcome of these two mustangs pitted against one another. Why would anyone want to spend all that extra money for the newer and slower car. Especially when there is no major difference to the exterior.
because when the S650 can be tuned it will absolutely be quicker than a tuned S550 there are people out there hitting high 9's in the S650 will just suspension and wieght reduction and a stock ECU when they can be flashed then everyone will be singing a different tune about the 650 so eveyone get your shots in now because this won't be the case when tuning is available
If Ford thinks I'm in a hurry to pay 55k for a GT or 70k for whatever a Darkhorse is, they are dreaming... the base vette for 70k is literally 2 car lengths ahead just to 60mph... and yes you can get a vette for 70k... if you buy a 50k GT Ford lowered all load and temperature settings in the ECU to reduce power as not to pass a Darkhorse.. no thanks.

I've auto-x a couple of manual cars and again, no big deal to me, I can heel-and-toe and double-clutch diving into a turn with ease. Like I said, there was a time when pretty much all cars came with a manual, that's why it was called a standard shift. To get an automatic was an option that cost several hundred dollars (back when a dollar was worth more than today's dollar). So manuals were everywhere and teenage boys and girls drove manuals. No its pretty common, more so on the 2018+. Its either the 32v powertrain or in the 18'+, Direct Injection. Sadly the 24's get GM's dreaded AFM cylinder deactivation which is not good.
Wait you had to modify a 2023 mustang to make the power a 2019 had?
The dark horse should have been the new GT.
Don’t let this video fool you. With the right driver, the s650 should not have lost any of those races.
Wonder what rear gear each car had....

What differentials are in these?
They're close looks to be the bottom line.

Thank you Sam !!! For the video amazing ..
Where are you located? I have a 2023 performance pack mustang you can borrow it for a video
Toronto, I think.
The gearing in the mt82 from 15-17 is different from 18+. In the 15-17 1:1 is 5th gear and in 18+ 1:1 is forth
That's why you get a 10 speed with 3.15 gears
A gen 3 would have walked that 24’
If roll racing from 40 mph and below, you need to be in first gear so the car romps when you hit the gas.
The s550 responds very well to bolt ons.
Terrific video.
En España mi modelo 2022 GT automático rondaba como mínimo 50000€.
So an 8yr old Mustang (probably about 25k) with just two minor mods beat a 50k 2024 S650….
What a load Ford. Do better. Smh
PS the back of that car in person is atrocious!
Believe it or not I’m a mustang fan too.
Was it out of y’all’s budget for a 2018? who wants to see a outdated old stock 16 gt 6 speed vs a 10 speed ?
S550 looks better and just as current looking! 9 years old to! They also got rid of the sharp crisp line down the side of the s650!
Rearend gears must be different
10 speed gt vs scatpack challenger!!!!
The scat gets smoked by the 10 speed Mustangs sir! 😉

Rear end gears?
3.55 in the 2016 an 3.15s in the 2024
I dont by the 0-60 of 4.3 for the 24'... That 4.3 sec run makes it the quickest dricen 24' 6 spd yet, beating pro drivers in magazines and Fords own team. last I heard/read it was a consistant 4.8 sec with 6 spd and 4.3 with A10 tran.
The 2018-23 A10 is almost 200 lbs lighter and quicker than the 24'
I love your channel dude u cornered a niche market for sure. But please man for the love of God if it's a manual have someone else drive it. It really does affect the quality of the video alot
I don’t understand why all these videos aren’t set to any standard. It’s random cars, transmissions, tires, bolt ons, tunes
S650 for me isnt worth the price difference. The looks of it has grown own me but id still take the 2018-2023 for the difference in price.
Not the most scientific test ever
We called some scientists but they were busy with Nasa - next time
Nice video
This was just a battle of two bad drivers….
Also 18-23 would have been a better comparison, the 15-17 mt82 has super tight gear ratios.
lol, I’ll take my 10R80 automatic (2019 GT performance)against either. That 10sp is for real!

Great video as always Sam. Congrats!
Glad you enjoyed it!
The older model looks better, sounds better, is within a wisker performance-wise and is half the price🤯
The 10 speed feel like it adds 20hp haha 😂 I drive both and ultimately got the 2024 performance pack gt
Save some $ and get an older one!
They are both nice cars and I would happily drive either one.
Its a pretty sad world when people always think whatever car they have has to be the best and they defend it to the grave.
2016 Tuned 5.0 vs 2024 Stock 5.0
S550= Foxbody s650 = Sn95 🤷♂️
Wow can’t believe this channel is this big when he doesn’t even know a clutch definitely helps with shifting. On top of that the tune helps raise the rpm limiter… And he says the gen 2 has a muffler so does the gen 4 coyote xD. 15 minute research can fix all this.
Shifting was slow and seemed short.
Yay for Sam !!!!!
If Ford thinks I'm in a hurry to pay 55k for a GT or 70k for whatever a Darkhorse is, they are dreaming... the base vette for 70k is literally 2 car lengths ahead just to 60mph... and yes you can get a vette for 70k... if you buy a 50k GT Ford lowered all load and temperature settings in the ECU to reduce power as not to pass a Darkhorse.. no thanks.
The older Mustang must have a lower final drive, otherwise the newer mustang should have left it behind.
The 2016 had 435 hp 5.0 not 460
this is tuned. up to 460bhp

Manual transmission races don't describe power, they describe drivers. You aren't that good at shifting in the mustang gt 2024 Manual
It takes no skill to shift a manual. There was a time when every car came standard with a manual. I've had a girlfriend who drove a Mazda GLC manual and my wife was driving a Escort manual when I met her. For some odd reason folks today think they're special because they drive a manual. Just cut the BS please.
@@justme307it 100% takes practice to drive a manual transmission well enough to win any drag race when the vehicles are this close to each other you're automotive opinions are no longer needed if you actually believe what you posted, which was the actual BS in question
and when all cars were manuals back in the day and manuals don't require skills to shift quickly then why bother racing in any situation. now driving an automatic, that requires next to no skill, just a fast car
@@alexodonnell5587 I've owned over 30 cars in my lifetime (I'm retired now, still have three cars which are automatics, to old to be shifting gears driving around the city) and of those 30 probably 20 were manuals. I've drag raced, 1/8- and 1/4-mile tracks, automatics and manuals, and really, no big deal for me for me, shifting a manual is just as easy as shifting an automatic. No big deal. Youngsters today just need to get over this "I'm special I drive a manual" BS. Just my opinion.
@@justme307 I don't think anyone on here thinks they're "special" because we drive manuals but to say it takes no skills to shift one fast enough to win a race without missing gears is silly as a person who has driven as many cars and raced as much as you say you have I would think you would be happy that young people still want to drive manuals we're all car people here no one thinks they're superman because they drive a stick
