From the 1968 release of "In Search of the Lost Chord"
    He'll fly his astral plane
Takes you trips around the bay
Brings you back the same day ~ Timothy Leary
    He'll take you up,
    He'll bring you down.
He'll plant your feet back firmly on the ground.
    He flies so high,
    He swoops so low.
He knows exactly which way he's gonna go.

This is probably the very first song that drew me to the Moody Blues. Back then it was an immediate favorite but drifted to second, third etc as other songs became more influential to 'my world'. LSD, having done it myself, I don't suggest anyone else to. It was the 60's and in our early to mid teens we took a lot of risks. Even lost a few friends along the way, in one form or another. Do I regret it ????? Youth is awesome. The feeling of invincibility is a fantastic high, but for the most part the trade off is stupidity. Now a senior citizen with two grown kids, I'm grateful they never did the things I have. LOL, how they became so smart has to be from their mother, and the lessons I had to learn the hard way. Sign me off as a radical 60's survivor.

I don't drink, smoke and never ever did ANY illegal drugs! Why? Why should I; with the Moody Blues songs sending me into a spin. I was able to have a good time and act the fool without screwing my body and mind up! I was 13 in 1968 and bought the album with my pocket money. What a great buy. 😝😝.

Oh, YES they were. I saw an old Justin Hayward interview today where he talks about the first time he and 3 other band members took LSD for their first time togeather (John Lodge was not present). Justin attributed it to influencing their music in a significant way. It would be hard to imagine a group that produced this kind of music consistently were not on some sort of mind-altering (enhancing) stimulants? AND they were great mates with Timothy Leary. Hence Mike Pinder's song "When You're A Free Man" dedicated to and about Leary.

you misunderstood. I mean to say that I just heard The Moody Blues for the first time in my life, and the experience was so overwhelming that it made the rest of my life seem miserable. but hey, thanks for the free advice.

Moody's at their best - a half century ago they did this song as I write. I especially like the 2nd half of the song, great playing of the mellotron by Mike Pinder, and the flute by Ray Thomas. They were one of the original prog rock bands, and, one of the best ever. Actually, I heard nothing about Ray Thomas' passing - this should have been page one news on the mainstream and internet media. Very sad Ray passed so soon.

They have the right balance of music, composition, playing the instruments and singing; hitting the notes like one is supposed to.
