Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond [Official Music Video]
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 4 июн 2013
- Video Description:
"Shine On You Crazy Diamond" is a nine-part Pink Floyd composition written by Roger Waters, Richard Wright and David Gilmour. It is a tribute to former band member Syd Barrett. The song was first performed on their 1974 French tour, and recorded for their 1975 concept album Wish You Were Here. The song was intended to be a side-long composition (like "Atom Heart Mother" and "Echoes"), but was ultimately split into two parts and used to bookend the album, with new material composed that was more relevant to this song, and to the situation in which the band found themselves.

Lyrics:
Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
You were caught in the cross fire of childhood and stardom.
Blown on the steel breeze.
Come on you target for faraway laughter.
Come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine!
You reached for the secret too soon, you cried for the moon.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Threatened by shadows at night, and exposed in the light.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Well you wore out your welcome with random precision.
Rode on the steel breeze.
Come on you raver, you seer of visions.
Come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine! - Видеоклипы

Best concert I ever attended! Chicago, 1977. They rocked the stadium, 50,000 of us, don't know the number, but we all lost it when the moon in the sky was obscured by clouds when the movie screens showed a total eclipse at the same moment! Awesome timing!
Damn that must have been awesome! I saw a Flaming Lips show where a rainbow came out after some rain and clouds dispersed and it was pretty magical. I love stuff like that.

I got introduced to their music when I was 15 in 2004 and now I am 32 years old, this world has rapidly gone to shit during the lasttwo decades. Everyone is selfish, everyone gives a fuck about responsibilities, everyone depends on what's best for them.
Once my class teacher said:"You were in the wrong time!"
It shocked me for years and now the older I get, bit by bit I get it.
I am different, don't want to fit into something.

I am in the sixth decade of my life. I just spent three hours working in my yard. When I was finished, it was 11:11 AM, and I was exhausted. It was time for a beer. I came out on my porch. put this song on and reminisced of days gone by. “Remember when we were young?”

We are 32 years old and live in the north western (so getting this wrong) section of Morioh where the villas are. We work at (forgot workplace) and be home by 8 pm, we make sure we're in bed by 11pm after drinking a warm glass of milk and doing streches for the 20 minutes. We wake up without fatigue, we don't smoke but we occasionally drink. Nothing was wrong after our last check up and like to keep it that way. All we want is to live a quiet, peacefull life

My Dad died to this song in his bed at home. It was as if he chose this song for his passage or the song released the tension that he was hanging onto. I held his hand and told him it's ok to go now. The fact that this song is dedicated to their closest friend and original leader of the band Syd Barrett, who had mental health problems but nonetheless was a huge inspiration for them even after he left the band is heartbreaking
Hi I Recommend checking out an indie rock song & Video Called 'looking into the mirror' by Robert Nix
Yeah, it adds so much more emotion to the song. IIRC, Gilmour would always try to fit a Barrett song into compilations and live recordings, to make sure he got royalties.
Barret didn't quite have mental health problems. Well, not until he overdosed on LSD

As músicas de Pink Floyd nos faz viajar para dentro de nós mesmos.
This is dedicated to the beautyful and talented Syd Barrett.
For those who aren’t aware, this song is about Pink Floyd’s original guitarist, Syd Barrett. Shine On (S) You Crazy (Y) Diamond (D). Syd apparently took a lot of psychedelic drugs while quite young, which is thought to have induced schizophrenia. (It’s also been said that his mental health issues were inevitable, but the drugs were a catalyst) “Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky”. That’s how a lot of people apparently described him after the damage was done. I hope he’s found peace.
@Ed Kelly you do realize that not everyone reads the shit “up top”!!!
We come for the comments usually, and dread the “Mr. Karen’s “ like u!

@@niccijordan1561 I appreciated it, I know the story but never knew the story of the title, thank you

I like fun facts.
Thanks brother
I remember when I was young. The summer of 84 found me on my Uncles farm in central Kansas, wheat country, on the back of a lonely tractor under the Kansas sun. From dawn to evening, I made concentric passes around the harvested wheat fields at 1.5 MPH, no one else around (for sometimes) miles. I brought a tape recording of the album ‘Wish You Were Here’ and would listen to it through headphones in the evenings and look out of the 2nd floor window of my room across the endless prairie of Pastures and wheat fields as the sun set on another day. It was so long ago now for me.
When I listen to this song now, my mind is filled the the sights, sounds and smells of my uncles old farm. What I would not give to go back to that time, to have one more summer of working with my uncle on his farm, driving tractors and enjoying the sunrises and sunsets of central Kansas, listening to the ‘Wish You Were Here’ album. To catching a small part of my past and enjoying the moment again.

A thousand times, this song has healed my wounds. Once again, it is doing the same. I'm a Canadian country boy now living in Japan with an exceptionally intelligent, and nearly crazy Japanese wife. Her mother caught the covid virus today, yet she can still find time to blame me for being insufficient, though I took her mother to the hospital. I only asked her to " leave me alone to listen to this song. It brings me peace". Yet she tried again and again to make me understand that I must tr harder to be valuable to the whole community. I'm friggin' tired. I need a break. ,,,at least until tomorrow.
This song is a LEGEND.

I am 70 and my perception of this - and other Pink Floyd's - music is rather different when I heard it in the 70s. As somebody wrote here my generation was so bloody spolied by rock & blues geniuses in the late 60s-70s: PF, The Who, Ten Years After, Led Zeppelin, early Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, Emerson-Lake & Palmer, Cream etc etc etc. So very much true; and 'supernatural event like a sudden proliferation of French out-of this-world mathematicians at the end of 18th - begining of the 19th centuries. The bar of an everyday listening - even to a Radio - was so rocket sky high! but we even were not aware of this. It was just a fantastic music for us assisting day after day - nothing els, quite 'normal' - but what 'a norm'!. For me/my friends this music had also another - quite unexpected in a long run - impact on another important (?!) part of life: sex. We danced to this music and made love along its waves. Somehow, it tamed our desires resulting in delicate encounters, with a full, gentle and concious appreciation of the partner (rather different than stoned 'happy hippy love'). This was so helpful in forging true and lasting relationships and friendships. that stood the test of times. For some of us, it took decades to truly understand the key points of these artists and appreciate their ingenuity. I stopped listening to contemporary 'heroes' as this is rather embarassing experience (and waste of time). It was mentioned here that this song assisted departure of their friends/beloved - the ultimate proof of a trangressing power of the PF's art. We are so lucky we got it - a benchmark that dwarfs today's 'pop'.
When I'm feeling down, for some reason this kind of music helps 😢

Dang that’s some strong love for music
Amazing words. Remarkable.
Deaf people feel the same way. In fact, terribly isolated... Can you believe the asshole running the Deaf schools of this country tried to kill sign language? He order them to read lips 👄, which give you a problem with “p” and “b”. And forget it when it comes to mustachioed... What a prize piece of shite 💩!
Totally agree. Im going blind
Pink Floyd's music is on another level, unmatched in quality in my opinion, but I'd still rather have sight over hearing if those were the choices.
With sight, one is still able to function at a reasonable level.
With blindness you're forever in darkness, and very limited to what is attainable, always dependent on equipment and sometimes relying on the kindness of others to help you.
Also good music once heard will forever be with you, you can always replay it within your consciousness and even subconscious.
Sight is too valuable.
i wish i could hear this song for the first time again

Used to listen to this when I was 15 with headphones on, turned way up and in a darkened room. 44 years later I'm doing exactly the same thing but the headphones are now wireless noise cancelling. Bliss.
Don't tell someone else how to listen to music, especially PF. Dudes been around, listening to PF for 44 years, he is highly capable of figuring out how listen to and feel PF.
I’m literally doing that right now I love it haha smoking a blunt
I'm 21 in a dark room
With my headphones blaring
I'm so sad and fucking happy rn
Life is an amazing fucking disaster
i am 15 and listening to this in a dark room with headphones on, however they are also wireless and noise cancelling headphones hehe
@The Shitstorm Starter Astro A50s, quality headphones id recommend them although they are pricey.

How do you feel that everyone in these comments is just talking about this anime named jojo’s bizarre adventures now?
I am 73 and always enjoyed listening to their music.
I bet he's confused by seeing the JoJokes in the comments XD
Although I'm 18 now, I hope younger people can enjoy this music growing up
Listening to this song at 3 am in your terrace makes you forget we are in a pandemic

My fifteen-year-old daughter is listening to this.
I've succeeded as a father. ;-)
Edit: She has no idea who or what JoJo is (no comics at all). She just loves old music (Pink Floyd, Genesis/Gabriel, Eagles, Dire Straits/Knopfler, Queen… you get the idea).
And my dad too im 9✌🏻👍🏻
Probably a JoJo fan. We're proud of her

For my brother, who has paranoid schizophrenia. He used to sit in his truck and blast this. Didn't know the deep meaning behind it as much as I do now. Rip Syd. And I love you lil brother, shine on! ✨💎 This song will forever make me cry, and smile. 😭✨💎

One of my favorite songs of all time. It truly takes you to another place. The instrumentation is beautiful, the lyrics are haunting, especially if you know the story behind them. It’s incredible what the band members could do together.
Im a 14 years old boy, I discoved this piece 1 year ago or maybe less, ny english is so poor, for that I didnt unterstood the song the first time, and meanwhile I was trying to know the meannig, I cant stop of imagine this song as the sounteack of my story with a friend. I know the history of Syd Barret, for Roger and the rest a friend of the past, and in 2019-2020 I uses to hang out with a friend, I was experimenting the feeling of free and confidence for firts time with him, it was a true friend we tell us all, at this age I start to discoverd a lot of new things and experiences with him that I will never forget. But we start to distance us, so slowy, in part for the COVID-19, I dont know it if was becuase we wasent than truely friends as I used to think or it was for my fault or my fault and gis fault to. Our friendship doesnt was to long, we was friend for less than a wole year, I dont like to think in that last, but when I do it " you reach the secret to soon" come to my mind. I still having good friends but I some days I feel than I never will have i friend like he. Sometimes I am walking alone in the night on the streets of our town and I think in him, and those days I come back to my house and feel so sad before went to sleep, without crying, because it isnt a tragic pain, is a deepest feel of lonely, and I remember "you cryed to the moon". The story of Syd its so dramatic but the heart of the storyitd the same, lost a friend without doing. Maybe I exaggerate our friendship, maybe in a pair of years i will have a best friend than him...I remember a documentaly of Syd barret in whose they said than no one of pink floyd went to his funeral... that is so sad so i promise some day, after a the university and a few years i will visit him, maybe will be so uncomfortable or the renasaice of our friend or a simple and nice reunion before never see us again but at least I will can say that I didnt forget our great friendship, I know that when we will see he again I will show him this wonderfull song
If someone has been read all this thanks this master piece its so beutyfull, has make me cry and love pink floyd and the music from a great age not that different as we usually or I usually think. I never share this story but now I than I do it I'm feeling better
I started listening to Pink Floyd a little while ago. I'm still listening. This is a long song.
