Breadcrumbs are NOT good! Most people who go for "veggie burgers" are either diabetic or have gluten allergies, so breadcrumbs are a no-no! must use something else, pork rinds maybe, etc. but no rice or wheat, or corn! and the bun must be made from almond flour or coconut flour, etc.

I made a modified version that was vegan that used the aquafaba from chickpeas instead of egg, black vinegar instead of worcestershire, and I added a tiny dab of marmite and mushroom seasoning for that savory and umami flavor that meats tend to give. I added salt and pepper, along with a dash of mustard powder into the mixture. I found it a big step up from the base recipe here. Thanks for this recipe!

I was going to try to adapt this recipe to vegan with a flax egg substitute but aquafaba could work just as well I think. I have some vegan worcestershire sauce and I always add mustard powder to burgers/patties recipes if it's not already included. I don't have marmite or mushroom seasoning so I was going to grind up some dried mushrooms into powder and add a pinch of that to dump up the umami 👍

Walnuts as a meat substitute is surprisingly PERFECT. I love tofu, mushrooms, lentils, all that. But I gotta say, ground walnuts are the closest thing to ground beef. And when seasoned right, they don’t have an overwhelming nut taste. They’re already mild to begin with. The texture is perfect too, especially when you soak them for a few hours to make them softer.
I thought using walnuts as a meat substitute was weird at first, but it ends up soooo satisfying. I can’t wait to try this recipe and I hope others give walnut meat a good chance! :))

Yes, Its a "great base". After watching about 20 different videos on veggie burgers, i decided to use this one as my base. I didn't modify it much. I wanted it to be veggie, so i skipped the egg. I also added a beet to give it the pink color and also packed with nutrients. I also "heated" it up a little with red chili peppers, smoked paprika, and a little more garlic. Instead of bread crumbs, i used 3/4 Cup oats and 1/4 cup hemp/chia mixture (helps bind it without the egg plus lots of nutrients as well). I also added 2 diced carrots to give the burger a little more texture....other than that, i used your recipe....

I am curious as your mom though, if everything could just be put in the food processor and then cook without having to cook anything ahead of time. It might make for a more crunchy burger, but i may give it a "go", just to simplify it even more...it may taste even better, but my guess is that it won't bind as well. I will try to make just one burger that way and see how it comes out.

I was going to say, you could easily make this vegan by either using a flaxseed “egg” or a Chia seed “egg,” and there is vegan Worcestershire sauce found in the common grocery store now. I got a chuckle out of you not knowing how to pronounce that sauce. ;)
P.S. Fun fact: Hamburgers are considered sandwiches too! If you look on Wikipedia under their sandwiches listing, you will see hamburger in there. ;)
P.S.S. This looks like it also would be great to turn into a vegetarian Salisbury steak, and all one would need to do is make a plant-based gravy for it. It reminded me of my most favorite Amy’s frozen meal that I used to buy as a staple - it was called “veggie steak and gravy,“ and it was a Salisbury steak substitute. I was devastated when they discontinued it a few years ago and have been wanting to re-create it for some time now, but didn’t know where to begin. All I have is the ingredients list for it, but they didn’t separate the gravy topping from the steak in its ingredients list. 😢
The ingredients were: Mushrooms, Organic Onions, Organic Lowfat Milk, Organic Bulgur Wheat, Grade Aa Butter (Cream, Salt, Annatto), Organic Celery, Organic Carrots, Organic Oats, Cheddar Cheese( Pasteurized Milk, Culture, Salt, Annatto, Enzymes), Filtered Water, Organic Walnuts, Organic Sweat Rice Flour, Wheat Gluten, Sea Salt, Expeller Pressed High Oleic Safflower And/Or Sunflower Oil, Organic Garlic Spices

This is my first time on your channel. I am a pescatarian. I love the way you made this “burger”. I absolutely enjoy mushrooms, anyway it’s done. I’m definitely going to try making this veggie burger… and yes, I agree with you… a piece of salmon or chicken etc. , between two pieces of bread should be call a sandwich. A burger should be ground up and shaped into a patty…Thank you very much for sharing your delicious burger recipe.🙏🏽🙏🏽❤️❤️

@@HowToMakeDinner I finally got around to making your recipe for veggie burgers and it was very tasty but it was soft .....this is the problem I always have no matter what the recipe. I am beginning to think that maybe I don't cook them correctly...maybe not long enough. About how long on each side? I also read that it helps to cook them on top and then put them in the oven for a bit. What do you think? Have a great day!

It came out as a wonderful burger. Very yummy. Probably best veggie burger I had. We kept in freezer 30 min before frying it in a very hot steel pan using hazelnut oil. For next time I consider to put 1 more egg to make it easier to fry as 1 piece. Paula, what do you think?

Something happened to me after loosing my sense of taste and smell for 1 year and 4 months due to Covid, I noticed texture and gristle in hamburger and sauage - those foods are not on my eating list now. I find them gross. So seeing this vegan burger 🍔 looks so great to me. Thank you ❤ I will try it.❤

Great Recipe- i will try it.
About the naming Problems: the main thing is that the Customer knows what it really is. A Burger is a Pettie from minced Meat on a Bun. But i guess it must be ok to call it a vegetarian Pettie ala Burger(or Burger Style). Take for example Black Forest Ham:it must be made in the Black Forest Area vecause it is a regional Speciality. But it is legal(in Germany) to Produce Ham Black Forest Style(Schwarzwälder Art). So theCustomer can see that it's not the Original Stuff but made the same Way.

They should let yall keep "Veggie Burgers", it's been around long enough that we know there's no meat! I may have to try this 1 day

When I was really young, (about 70 years ago) back in Saskatchewan, margerine appeared on the scene. However, the dairy industry would not allow the margerine industry to sell yellow (like butter) margerine. So the margerine came with a reddish button in the middle of it. We would pop the button and massage the margerine until it looked like butter. These days I use butter. Ha
