- What is the season of Lent all about? What is its purpose?
Can Scripture tell us anything about the season of lent? If lent is a 40 day journey, can the 40 days in the desert spend by Jesus in scripture tell us anything about the purpose of the season of lent? And, specifically, can we unearth anything from the specific temptations that Jesus underwent?
To learn more about the season of Lent, the temptations of Jesus, and the temptations of Adam and Eve, along with the connection between the Gospel reading, Responsorial Psalm, and the Old Testament reading for this Sunday's Mass, subscribe today to The Mass Readings Explained:

We need more priests like Dr Pitre. If we could have homilies like this in our churches how awesome it would be. The faithful who go to Mass would certainly grow in their Catholic Faith. May the Lord grant us priests who know and preach the faith like Dr Pitre does.
That’s a prideful idea. Listen to the Holy Spirit give you the message and if you’ve been praying you’ll hear. Mass is not a Bible study brother.
This is brilliant. I am a pastor and follow Dr. Pitre's teachings. He has such a deep understanding of the Bible, they simply don't teach enough of this at Seminary. Thank you for your studies and for sharing it with us!
Praise be Jesus and Mary now and forever

Amen! 🙏🏼
Warm greetings from Australia 🦘 Goodness, you are amazing Dr Pitre. Your "sermons" are a balm for the heart and mind. You have been instrumental in my Catholic education - I have just returned to the Church. I've watched other lectures that you have given. RUclips is a Godsend and you are one of the major leading lights, set apart from the plethora of Catholic shock jocks and junk commentators. THANK YOU!!
I have so much to understand about my faith its like an iceberg...Blessed be God and may we always count on his Divine Love and Mercy. Thank you Dr Pitre..you are enlightened.
Yes there's so much to learn! And as we continue to learn, it also grows our faith. And then as our faith grows, we learn more and WANT to learn more. The trick is to keep going, no matter what we want or feel. Just like changing diapers... You just HAVE to do it out of love. We rarely WANT to or FEEL like it. It's a sacrifice, a suffering, a caring, the next right thing. (Growing our faith is nothing like diapers... It was just a small analogy.)
Beautiful explanation here! As born into Roman Catholic beliefs by the hand of my Italian Mother, I must say you covered more details than I can recall from learning from nuns in my private Catholic school! Thanks so much for this! Bravo! 👏 🎉
Amen 🙏 🙏 🙏
Thanks be to God!
Thanks, Dr. Pitre. This is fascinating. Please keep this content coming! ❤
Thank you for such a wonderful exegesis. I m very much inspired by your teaching and same i translate and pass on to the catholics
Wow! That was the best explanation of the meaning of and reason behind Lent. Thank you Dr. Pitre! 🤯🙏🏽
The 3 Pillars explained brilliantly!!!
Give up everything until you have nothing left, but GOD; then the devil will have nothing to bargain with you.
Break every chain ⛓
Thanks Dr Pitre, this video was mind blowing. Thanks for the insight at the end of the video.
An excellent exposition of the Temptations of Jesus, Dr. Pitrie. I was especially intrigued by what you said about Psalm 91, that it was a psalm of exorcism. No wonder Satan knew it so well! As always, you deepen and enrich familiar passages from the Gospels by linking them to the Old Testament. God bless everyone this Lent and protect us from harm.
Real life experience, Christ showed us the way to live and win thru him.
Jesus is always telling us to grow closer to God. Jesus tells us to be like little children and surrender to God. Holy Mother Church tells us more prayer, more fasting and more alms giving to help us avoid sin. Excellent commentary on our Lenten journey with Christ.
God blessed. preacher Glory to. God and thanks to Dr. Petri
Such good co-relation. I am trying to discover myself in the Catholic Church. These teachings are very helpful
Well explained. Thank God and thank you Dr. Pitre. Amen!
Thank you Dr. Pitre, May God bless you always!
Thank you so much Dr. Pitre
May God bless you ✨
Thank you very much for blessed sermon Dr. Pitre
Okay..That was the best instruction on Lent I’ve ever heard. The three Temptations of Adam and then Jesus and then the church’s instruction for us to pray, fast, and give alms to help us overcome these same three Temptations…Amazing… Well done!
Wah...!!!! Very beautiful way of explaining the mystery behind our Lord's salvation endeavour for the humanity
Like all the others, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and insight. If only we could get this kind of instruction in our homilies at mass.
Very informative and helpful. Thanks Dr.Pitre!!!
Great sir...that's why Paul says,The second Adam, the" life giving spirit"
I feel that there's a relation between the three temptations (flesh, eye and pride of life) with the transcendentals. We try to make ours the goodness, the beauty and the truth respectively. Nice topic, gives you a lot to meditate
Great explanation of Lent for strengthening of our Catholic Faith and to fight off temptation, Thanks Dr Pitre.
Back here in lent 2021. Thanks 🙏
I pray Psalm 91 daily. It's a promise from God.
Dr Pitre makes ordinary words come to life and have significance in our life!
Thankyou much appreciate..God bless you
Word. Very educative, thanks.
The triple concupiscence corresponds to the three Lenten observances, just as the temptations of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden correspond to the temptations of Jesus in the wilderness.
I absolutely Love how you Explain the GOOD Book 🙏 God Bless You Brother Brad 🕊🎼🙏

First time of a real insight into lent and the corresponding temptations of Jesus. Where does this man get this deep understanding of the scriptures from ? I am 71 and never ever heard such enlightening explanations. Now after all these years do I finally grasp the understanding and background to this narrative.
This is the day The Lord has made, so let us rejoice!
POWERFUL PRESENTATION, GOD IS GOD, ALL GLORY TO HIM ALONE THROUGH JESUS BY THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT!
Excellent. Thank you for this.

Love how you use a Douay Rheims 😍
I read my.Bible regularly and we have sections of Scripture at Church.
Thank you so muuch, it was so helpful !!! May God bless you !
Very nice explanation...
Thanks for this talk.
The church has sort of provided the means of overcoming these temptations according to our station/vocation in the vows of poverty (eyes-wanting to possess), chastity (flesh), obedience (pride).
Thank God
Thank you Sir
Wonderful
WOW wow
What a great program. Easy to understand and follow along with. New to this channel I look forward to more of your videos.
In my community we are taught that these are the temptations of the bread, of history, and of idols. They also correspond to Dr. Pitre’s explanation!
What is the temptation of history? To try and go down as a great historical figure? Or something else, like follow after something like a failed historical experiment, like socialism?
legolasegb Dr. Pitre talked about Satan’s temptation of the Lord to forsake the gruesome path of the Cross, which is a part of His mission. Christians are like that; we are always tempted to forsake our own personal histories, in favour of something that we create for ourselves. God calls us within our own histories uniquely, and our unique responses to this call. Humanity as a whole is also drawn into this collective history toward the God who shows Himself as the true goal of humanity. But collectively, we also try to create our own path in history where we, just like what you have said, employ our own technical expertise to bring about our own purely secular goals.
@@wellasang Ah, I see. I often wonder how much of my life is following God's plan and how much of it, as you say, is my own history-construct. I have a feeling a bit too much of it is the latter :-(
That was really good! Thanks, Dr. Pitre - all of your videos are quality, but that was one of if not the best I've seen.
Amazing explanation Dr
Thank you for this amazing teaching! It makes me wonder Satan’s purpose. He must not have understood Jesus’ divine nature if he thought he could tempt him yes? Also was he not absolutely sure Jesus was the Christ? Blessings.
When a person is tempted, it leaves a mark, but Jesus is God, pure... so I think Jesus was not tempted but tested.
I am Catholic
❤️❤️❤️
I've never considered these as true temptations. Wow
Good stuff👍
There is a film on RUclips of a new rosary, The Temptations of Christ Rosary, based on mysteries found in the Holy Scriptures. Pray this rosary for priests
Lent is the period in God's policy of evaluation and justification of personal belief to God according promises to God for the Eucharist with the memory of God's promise brought with Jesus Christ of eternal life in the gospel of the today of the computer. The doorstep of the church building and the threshold of eternity, the sense of personal belief to God.
Concerning HIS temptations, I always believed in Jesus’s true humanity and HIS GREAT LOVE of the ETERNAL FATHER is what prevented HIM from falling into sin. Being a Rabbi Jesus knew the “come backs”, which are quotes from Moses in the Old Testament. We are all victim to temptations but if we love GOD, we will avoid sin. It ain’t always easy. JESUS, Man-GOD, is PERFECTLY human and PERFECTLY GOD. MAY THE MOST PRECIOUS BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST COVER US, save us 🙏🩸🙏. (from The Devotion given to Barnabas during the yrs: 1995 to 2003… part is on RUclips!!)
Yes the devil is the god of this world until Jesus comes back. This is why bad things happen to good people. We need to stay in the Word of God, Repent and Pray daily. God Bless you all!
Is there any significance for taking fasting for 40 days. Why Jesus selected number of days as 40
Dr Pitre, I need your help. My son asked if God is omnipresent, why then did the Holy Spirit only come after Jesus ascended?
Why not before Jesus?
The Holy Spirit was, in the beginning, Gen 1, let us create man in our own likeness. So the Holy Spirit was and is
Always remember that the devil Satan in Luke 4:13 the Tempter departs for a season i.e. a short time. But he for certain returns to Tempt us again in many ways.
Could you do the Traditional Calendar instead of the novus ordo?
Interesting that there are three (triple concupiscence) temptations and there is also the Holy Trinity....God in three persons. I wonder if each of these temptations has an attribute targeted against each person of the Trinity??
