This was BAD. Truly terrible. The storyline was stupid. That song was atrocious. It was even worse when the Doctor decided to put in a verse of his own. I'm sorry "hit it, Janice." How does he know the singer of the goblin band's name? Why would she then be like "sure, stranger intruder, why not?" It was dumb. Dumb dumb dumb. It was like a fifth grader's fan fiction. I'd expect a more professional storyline from RTD. And that's hardly the worst part of it. They're trying to introduce "magic" into this? Are you serious? And let's not forget the fact that "mavity" is stupid, and the "mavity gloves" are even worse. and also he uses them to 1) pull an entire airship out of the sky, killing everyone on it, and 2) he doesn't even give it a second thought. How is that like The Doctor? The Doctor ALWAYS gives the bad guys a choice. They never take it for plot reasons, but that's what The Doctor DOES. That's what makes him GOOD. He gives them a choice. Also, in the days prior, The Doctor and Ruby see each other multiple times, but on the airship ladder, there's no recognition of each other? And since when/ why can the goblins just time travel at will? I thought "time travelers are so much more." How about when Ruby disappears, the mom and grandmom are in the apartment with The Doctor and they just seem to go with it, even though they have no idea who he is. Sure,. It's fine for some random person to just appear in their flat, and it doesn't even phase them. AND THEN the "hot summer with Houdini" Oh all kinds of F YOU RTD. HOW DARE YOU! This rewriting history is bullshit. Houdini was straight and was happily married So was Isaac Newton. And both of them were white. Stop checking boxes for woke points and write a good story for once. We all know RTD is capable of writing a good story. This is just bullshit lazy writing. I hated this and the 60th special episodes so much I almost threw my remote through my tv.

@@laurengezzi Thank you! I find it so disheartening to see the ciritcs reviews giving this a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, yet the viewer rating is at a dismal 50% ish. I can't blame the critics cuz they don't want to get canceled for daring to say "this sucks," but it's saddening that they don't have the spine to stand up for good writing. This episode is so awful and goes beyond the "woke" agenda. I've heard a couple of reviews and I'm a little surprised that no one is questioning the whole massacre of the goblins without giving it a second thought. That's just not how the The Doctor acts. There's always a choice. Why is no one talking about that? He's no longer The Doctor in my eyes.

This might be a hot take but I kinda think RTD is overrated.. don't get me wrong when he's good I really enjoy it but I think his main strength is writing characters and how they interact with each other, he's really good at that. In terms of just pure plot though, a lot of his stuff ranges from decent to abit boring with some great things here and there. I feel as though most of the time it was the characters themselves that carried RTDs first era more than the story. For storylines I actually think Steven Moffat was better

Like I don't understand why the normally relatable companion was introduced by being interviewed by a famous person for TV. There was no quiet moments in introducing Ruby. It was all rushed, with an odd singing scene, and then the emotional beats were off because how could we care about a character we barely know? And why was the doctor crying about someone he barely just met? Really strange. The music was way too loud and I could barely hear the speech. Overall, way too rushed and too large a budget. I don't like musicals in general and singing in films feels like nails on a blackboard but what really killed that scene was that they were trying to build tension with a stolen baby, a creepy picture left by a crib and a baby on it's way to being devoured by a monster but then everyone was just cracking jokes and singing songs at the climax! Make up your mind, are you building tension or having a laugh?
Also, a minor point but the gloves centered all their wearers mass in the gloves themselves leaving the bodies light, they didn't just 'make them light'. Reversing that wouldn't make them heavy it would just push all the wearers mass back into their body and leave the hands light, so why would the ship be dropping? no one would weigh any more than they did to begin with.

The doctor is acting a bit too normal to be mysterious or compelling. I have a mixed review of “The Church on Ruby Road.” I think the actors portraying the new Doctor and Ruby are doing the best they can under the circumstances, but RTD’s writing is weak especially in the third act. The action seems forced, out of character, and missing important context. I am also very concerned about the Disneyfication of Doctor Who reducing the show to generic villains, heroic tropes, and weak dialogue. The show has a history of science fiction overlaid on reality. The goblins appeared to be generic fantasy villains without any explanation of their presence in reality. And as an American, I honestly feared for the Doctor’s life when the police officer approached him and started writing a ticket.

Not a bad debut, Ncuti seems perfect as the Doctor, youthful, energetic and has got some sass:). Dr Who is something I've watched since 1970 and while its had some ups & downs, its great to see it go from a shoestring budget serial to a multi-million pound extravaganza. Doubtless the online trolls and right wing media are attacking it purely for the fact that its now featuring gay & trans people, especially since Disney is involved. Apparently 144 people in the UK complained that a trans person in it was 'inappropriate', but do the maths and its an insignificant percentage of the main audience who seem OK with it. The episode was typical Who-ish campy fun, no more ridiculous than the one where Matt Smith faced a flying shark. And did the Doctor murder all the goblins?...the King got spiked, then it all vanished so did they really die?. And then there's the season tease...Mrs Flood. Looking forward to May and seeing how that pans out.

He killed the Jagrafess in the satellite by rerouting all of the heat from the satellite into the room it was in, causing it to explode.

Nothing happened for the first 15-20 minutes and when it finally started to get interesting when they climb the rope to the goblin ship, it gets interrupted by a song and dance number. I miss the days when the show would grab you from the start and keep you guessing the whole way. The first half of this episode felt like a hallmark movie and the last half was just starting to dip a tow into mystery and imagination. That's the thing that's been missing from Who in the last few years imo. Imagination. Wild Blue Yonder and The Giggle were a step in the right direction, but if were getting more boring and simple family plot lines, Ill probably just move on until the next show runner.

It was peak Who (alright maybe that's giving it too much credit but it was VERY DAMN GOOD and refreshing). It had all the wacky stuff while still somehow walking the fine line without being campy or bafflingly silly, and more importantly: the crazy goblin stuff did not overshadow the emotional core of the episode.

The new Dr. Who is a fraud. I literally saw him split in half as two different people.

Years and Years was awful and along with RTDs misguided and offensive justification for the Davros retcon the main reason I'm giving this new era a miss.

I hated it. Ncuti is not a bad doctor but the whole Christmas special was poor. We (my family) became bored halfway through and sat saying what's the new series going to be like if this is the Christmas special. I think Davis has lost the Doctor magic and gone down the woke path. It's sad to see.

Was a good episode, Thought the camera work was a bit odd in certain scenes, like it was way too close to characters faces sometimes and the acting at the very end of the episode was absolutely terrible with the neighbor being surprised about the tardis disappearing.

The acting was definitely very strange at points. Like the actors weren't giving a genuine portrayal.

Very disappointed! I ham 72 and have been watching Dr.Who since I was a young girl . Loved all the Doctor who’s .
And I enjoyed the three specials with David Tenant.
As far as the new Dr. Who Christmas special , the plot was silly , the goblins looked like dime store purchases .
And Dr. Who is just not right for the part ( he is no Tom Baker or Matt or David . )
I will not be watching .) So I guess I will cancel Disney +. No wonder Disney is in trouble .

Doctor who officially died today and it’s so sad to see. This is all just one big woke fetish for RTD and everyone will be afraid to say it out of fear of being labeled as a homophobe and a racist. This is just so far removed as to what doctor who actually is. I understand they have to try new things and be different but this woke agenda is so overdone and boring at this stage, the new season will get all time lowest viewing figures. We’ve seen what has happened to the likes of Disney and marvel when you try and ram your political views down peoples throats, it never ends well and sadly the show won’t survive past 2025.

Exactly what pisses me off is that the doctor is now gay! Gay? The doctor is neither gay, straight or Bisexual! He is sexless! And doctor who is now a woke piece of shite

I noticed it had indirect sleazy comments thrown in here and there! I thought the story was very weak! Goblin king wants to eat a baby????? Seriously!!! and some people think this was 10/10 story telling???? the Doctor wasn’t great but ok! deserves another chance though but I feel they are going to ruin his character. Inside the Tardis was great! But overall it has issues lurking!

    • @Maple_T29
      @Maple_T29 5 месяцев назад +9

@@Gibson1976uk the issues aren’t even lurking, they are already there in the open. The story for me wasn’t an issue bcos I didn’t expect it to be that great, the main focus would’ve been how well the new doctor and assistant worked on screen. Whilst they look like they had fun filming, it’s just so far away from the actual relationship the doctor should have with their assistant. Watching them giggle and panic like two little school girls made me wanna throw up……I’ve never watched sex education but Ncuti’s perfomance is exactly what I would expect if I turned on an episode of sex education. It’s just so out of place. And then just from the trailer at the end of the episode I can already tell RTD’s woke fantasies are going to forced down your throat at every opportunity. Having Ncuti play dress up in silly little skirts and low cut vests, RTD is an actual creepy sex pest. But I guess saying that will automatically make me a homophobe and a racist now

Kind of the Disneyification silly ep of the doctor. Other than the gremlins ( goblins). The doctor and companion, yeah, I think they'll eventually work with some time and as RTD gets into the writing. Let's see where it goes.
