    I thought it was a decent movie -- echoes of Jim Carrey playing it straight in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. The story itself puts me in mind of a cross between Stanislev Lem's "Solaris" and Nolan's movie "Interstellar'. The stand out performance is Paul Dano.

    I really loved the movie. Genuinely of the favorites in the recent years.
    I guess many people went in to it with wrong expectations (because its an adam sandler movie or expecting a different flavour of sci fi) thus the mixed ratings. Although to me the trailer indicated pretty clearly what this movie was gonna be like (a slow etherial meditative drama with introspection).

    Hey great to see a new upload!
    Haven't seen this one yet, took a glance at the IMDB rating and saw it was like a 5.3 and that killed my enthusiasm pretty hard. That's one of those 'it can't be too good' ratings. But if you're taking the time to talk about it, I can tell there's definitely something to glean from it whether good or bad so off I go lol.

      it's amazing, watch it, it's so low due to bored dudebros with no depth whatsoever expecting a stupid movie by AS. it talks about emotions, loneliness, yearning for connection, relationships. it was really lovely.

    I’m glad you mentioned Tarkovsky, I was thinking the same thing. I agree with pretty much everything you said

    I would say it isn’t a sci-fi move, it’s a psychological thriller set in space. Non of the space element were important because they were just the backdrop for his loneliness. I never really identified with him, and I don’t think you’re supposed to. You are supposed to feel sympathetic and understand him tho. It’s an exploration of loneliness and what if really left when you are all alone. The cloud doesn’t matter, the alien’s backstory doesn’t matter, because non of that really mattered to Sandler’s character(can’t remember his name lol). Saddler needed to deal with his trauma and his fears of becoming like his father. Even Sadler played his character well. A man who spent 6 months alone taking to one equally bored person. It makes sense his emotions and speaking are dulled. Tho, I never heard any hype about this movie and just saw it at fave value. I don’t know what the marketing people did to misconstrued expectations.

    Great review. Reflects what I felt about the movie. It's not hard to watch and did find it interesting, but it's definetly not as good or ground-breaking as several of the films that you mentioned. still worth a casual watch on Netflix for those of us who really the sci fi genre.

    Hey, I haven't watched it yet but probably still will - I'm a sucker for anything Adam does that's 'different' from his comfort zone movies. Good luck with the new job, bruh!

    My main thought about Spaceman was, where are his crewmates? A one-person trip to anywhere in space is not at all feasible, and possibly the reason for imagining an alien spider. Apart from that, it was mediocre.

    To be fair, this was a Tarchovsky-esque movie. He is known as one of the best. However, his movies at one time has put people to sleep.

    This was one of the best films I have ever seen. How they went into loneliness was incredible and how everything was in his mind. Then he tried to end himself at the end and got saved

    Visually it was beautiful, but the big spider with poppy eyes was not good specially that hug at the end, and I didn’t feel attacked to the characters. Probably I couldn’t separate Adam Sandler from comedy. I didn’t like the ending either, he should’ve die in the expedition, not miraculously returning to earth.

    So it's a film about a man by himself on a spaceship investigating a mysterious space phenomenon who makes friends with a giant alien spider? This smells like a mockbuster from "The Asylum" after they heard about Project Hail Mary.

    This was, literally, one of the worst movies I had ever seen. Couldn't wait for it to finally end. Became extra tired of hearing "skinny human" over and over again. Especially for a human that isn't skinny. As an Adam Sandler fan, I really couldn't believe just how bad this movie was.

    bad movie. nothing good about it. and the spider made me more confused. didn’t get the point of it to be there. and his mission didn’t get it. it is a movie about him and his wife nothing more nothing less. and it is very bad handled.

    • @ZeSgtSchultz
      @ZeSgtSchultz 2 месяца назад

      Yeah I was more interested in the few scraps of info we got about the world and his mission than I was interested in the story or characters.
      It feels like they could have taken out all the space and Syfy stuff and it wouldn't change the movie at all

    • @HaidarAL
      @HaidarAL 2 месяца назад

      exactly. Remove the spider remove the space travel, and the story would have been the same. It didn’t make sense to make a space travel, and a weird spider visiting him in space to talk about his feelings towards his wife. it’s the most lame movie ever. I think Adam Sandler just tried to be serious for a change, but it just didn’t work and the funny thing I noticed that he had the same outfit. He usually have in his movies basketball clothing that’s something you have in a space travel but yes, the movie would have been more interesting to explore what his mission was about and what was the spiral about and where did it come from? There were so many questions unanswered
