Besides being a completely awesome song that I can't stop listening to, does anyone realize what an insanely great job the drummer is doing. The guy has a small kit and most of the fills are being done on the snare. Plus the rhythm is not even a steady beat. It's like the main rhythm is a string of small fills. Really terrific job. I'm not sure who this guy is, but I'm sure he's underrated.

It’s a bit different, but it might be more of a switch-up than a punch-up, if you know what I mean. A similar, probably more common trick that works to punch up a song is to drop the prechorus from the final chorus. (The only example I can think of right now is “Oh” by Sleater Kinney.) Another good one with some switches is Flyer by Skating Polly.

When I first heard this song on the radio as a teen in the 90s, I cried my eyes out. My life changed instantly. Until that moment I had been convinced I was alone in caring whether anyone knew that the world is a subway.

Quote from Raine Maida about the song Superman's Dead:
"It's just about how hard it is for kids to grow up today. They're inundated with the media and images and cliques they try to have to fit into. Two images that are really strong for me lyrically are ordinary's just not good enough today,' and when I think of kids today, I would never think of a group of eight year olds going out to a baseball park and throwing the ball around. It doesn't happen any more. I have a nine year old brother; he's either inside playing Nintendo or staying up late on a school night watching Beavis & Butt-Head. And you juxtapose that against the old Superman, on the black and white series. He was a real hero, good values, strong willed, a gentleman, but I think Beavis & Butt-Head wins today." (Talking about the song "Superman's Dead" from the album "Clumsy")

And the chorus intro, Alone alone alone alone,,,why-eee-iii-eee

One of the first CD’s I ever owned. I was 13 in 97. It’s a shame the original members aren’t still together and that Raine sort of lost his voice, but it’s like the bands from the 80’s. you can’t sing like that forever.
