Appreciate your thoughts guys! Seawind/Corsair have been around for a long time and build serious sailing boats for serious sailors. Everything on the boat is form-follows-function which is different than many 10 ton roomarans currently built in Fr. and SA. Curved topsides? Yes adds strength and sheds water easily in heavy seas. Down galley? Reduces windage of the saloon and separates food preparation from the guests on a crewed boat. It is a personal choice and not for everyone. All of the design choices make for a very light, strong, liveable boat that may have a 10% speed advantage over a long passage. This allows cruisers to cover more ground, outrun storms, and arrive refreshed instead of wild-eyed after a long passage due to the sea-keeping qualities. Call me a fan. I have no financial interest in Seawind but did own one of their early boats for 10 years. I also sailed extensively on Corsair F-boats and found them to be fast, comfortable, and sea-worthy.
Don’t judge a book by the cover guys. These boats have proven sea keeping abilities over the years both in Bluewater cruising and charter here in Oz. They represent great value compared to the many overpriced cats out there.
They are made in Vietnam.....They cost as much as anything else.... Australians have this silly idea that something produced here is better. It usually isn't ie. Sidchrome is garbage, the old stuff and the new Chinese stuff.
I appreciate the MEH boat review. Finally someone that doesn't just glow with the reviews. I only have seen one other sailing channel that reviews boats do that...MEH is an awesome review!! For the size and price point I thought it was very well laid out and functional... compared to a brand new 38 ft mono-hull I would take this one for functionality and comfort.
I have sailed both between NZ and Pacific islands for months and would concur, However I was caught in a cyclone on the 38 foot (ferrocement) boat and i was very glad not to be on the cat's lifeboat
I have never been to the Annapolis boat show - but I absolutely AGREE with your sentiment here - "The general theme of the Annapolis boat show was the "bigger is better" mentality which we certainly don't agree with, naturally so seeing a catamaran of this size was a nice breath of fresh air." For me, the key features of any catamaran has to be ease of handling short-handed (mooring and sailing) and effective use of available space. We would never need multiple berths and would prefer a workshop and laundry/utility rooms and just two berths rather than four or five berths.
The design of that boat seemed like it made a lot of compromises to get you bang for buck value, in user interfaces and space. Just from what I’ve seen seems like they did a good job finding that balance.
I think the other comments have covered most of my thoughts! You come across as very naive. Underway you can use the shroud as a hold, lines organised on the deck is very standard. They are a very practical and very well laid out vessel! I’ve chartered many, and will happily do so in the future!
i agree ive charterd the 3 cabin and the 4 cabin version. stable, fast, comfortable and plenty of room for our crew of 6. i did enjoy these guys videos, im quite surprised that they didnt recognise the quality that they were walking all over, and in comparison to a lagoon or equivalent? give me the seawind with the lack of windage anyday.
Your opinion on this cat is completely legittimate, as every opinion is personal, every one seeks different things in a boat. Still I would have liked if you would had considered in the review some features of this catamaran that not all the possible competitors at its price range or even at a higher price often lack. Things like the bridge clearance over the water level, so less slamming on the bridge by waves, or the foam core instead of a balsa one that can rotten in few years as the water finds a way in, so potentially much more durability, it is a cat designed to be able to do long ocean passages, not to be parked in some tropical beach and spend 95% of his life at anchor, not to be a floating apartment that can also sometimes sail and sometimes motor from island to island. Then a person can not need that type of catamaran and prefer other types with different capability, and it is perfectly fine, but a review should at least mention those things.
Previous 1160 lite models had two 20hp 4 stroke outboards, one fitted into a well on each sponson that could be tilted up to clear the water; Now I see they are putting the Yanmar saildrives in instead of the outboards. I don't like saildrives because they add a bunch of maintenance despite the potential fuel savings over the 20HP 4 stroke outboards. If I had the coin to get a 1160 Lite I'd mount a Yanmar D Torque 50HP diesel outboard in a well as an auxillary motor.
I have a 2019 1160 Lite. The standard is two 20 hp Honda outboards. We opted for the optional 25 hp Yamaha high thrust outboards. The last Seawind we owned - a model 1000 - had dual 9.9 hp Yamaha high thrust. I prefer outboards. SOME Lite's have been fitted with the two diesel engines, but not typical.
..... Hey Guys .... not for certain, but the curved decks could be structural for strength, with the price being as low as it is it could be a more economical way to get the structural strength .... sure it was a shorter boat, but the cabin still seamed to be of a good size even though the pontoons were shorter and tramps smaller ..... not sure about the engine access being from inside, but sure like the room around the engine for easy access ..... those sure were some big portals in the office area on the owners side, lots on natural light ..... Like you mentioned Randi, the obstacle course on the side decks was quite the turn-off ..... my preference would be a mono-hull and how cluttered the side decks are is something always take note of .... I am gathering you didn't put in your order on this one ....... great little video .... have fun be safe, save our oceans ......
The advantage of the galley down is that if you live aboard and have people over, you don't have to worry so much about a couple of pots in the sink you haven't cleaned yet. The long + narrow design forced by the hull shape also makes for good bracing in a seaway.
I concur... counted 17 Times. BTW, saw you at the Annapolis Sailboat Show. Wife and I wanted to say hi but we did not want to interrupt. Both of you were busy at a booth near the Hotel entrance on Saturday.

i don't know if you guys read comments on old videos, but i'm curious to hear your opinion. i'm just wondering if those trampolines on cats are even necessary anymore. maybe 20 years ago when materials were heavier, and the need to cut weight up front was a greater issue. but now, with the improvements in design, construction materials, and a better understanding of weight distribution, , i'm thinking the trampoline is on the way out. i've noticed on several newer models, the trampolines are getting smaller and smaller. in some cases they almost seem like they are more an homage to the past rather than a necessary feature. even a little trampoline is going to introduce a lot of spray onto the foredeck. why not just axe them and add to the living space.
Uh. Horrible. As we’ve searched, toured and sailed a few different cats, we pretty much find these low mounted helms unworkable. Anybody that thinks it’s ok to force the helmsman to look THROUGH the cabin have never sailed busy harbors or at night in the rain.
@@joesmythe8232 I agree. Night, busy area, rain, glare and reflection on the glass from everything. I always thought it would be cool to put the helm inside, up front to the windshield so you can see where you are going.
Can you n ot see over thr coachroof? Yep thatd suck, but i got the feeling you could at least get a view by leaning out a bit. Is thr helm any further aft thsn on other cats?
This is one of my favorite Cats. They are great sailing vessels and they utilize space like no other, especially for such an affordable price. I will probably get the 1160 or 1260 when I retire in 5 years, both very easy to single hand. What sailing couple really needs a bigger boat than either?
@@kevinjohnson3521 The 1160 Lite has 20-25 hp outboards which provides more storage space, and can be easily removed for repair, etc. And if one totally dies, they are much cheaper to replace. However, I am partial to diesels for torque and longevity - although my Yamaha 20hp dinghy engine is pretty easy to maintain, etc. In truth, if I were to buy one of these, I would look into eventually removing any gas engine and going solar/electric with a DC generator to power the engines. In that case, I would imagine having 2 outboards would make a conversion effortless compared to having to remove the diesels, lines, etc.
@@kevinjohnson3521 Spoke with Shane at Seawind - electric engine sail drive conversions are easiest with the diesels because of the way they had to design the 1160 lites for the outboards. Right now, electric is still iffy as far as range and storage, so for bluewater, probably at this stage, diesels are best, but for coastal cruising, these outboards are probably the way to go.
@@rabukan5842 I'm also interested in going fully electric on a sailboat. I think if you replace the petrol outboards with electric outboards, like two epropulsion 6kw, it might work. During passages the outboards can recuperate up to 1000 watt each at 10 knts. of speed and 270 watts at 7 knts. I guess the 1160 is easily capable of reaching this speed. Add a couple more solar panels and you should be fine even if at mooring. Any thoughts?
New viewer. I’ve watched a number of your tours and really love your perspective. Hope you’re battened down and secure while weathering this plague we’re experiencing. The one thing I wish you would add to your reviews is the crew requirement of various boats. Seems like some of the bigger (50+) boats would be hard to crew by yourself and some have powered line systems that would help out. Mentioning these features as part of your checklist would be very helpful. Stay safe!
It's interesting that you don't see the hull length to beam ratio advertised on these boats, it's an important criterial for ruffly figuring the performance characteristics of a boat. The thing that really jumps out at me, though, is how far forward the bridgedeck extends. Going to weather, it's very likely that you'll have waves slamming into the underside of the bridgedeck. It is a smaller catamaran, so they going to have a harder time fitting the accommodations in a shorter length boat, but I'd be afraid to cross the Atlantic in that boat.

On fair weather you can have the back door open so it makes the cockpit larger. These boats sail on their own bottom from vietnam where they are made to Australia so they are capable of long passages. Its like a boston whaler. Small but it can go out with the big boys
Thanks for the boat tours. You have a unique channel. Its really cool because it gives me the importunity to see boats i otherwise would have never seen. Thanks!
I want lounging areas in a cockpit.. So that both people can lie down while undereay/ and lie down on a nightwatch(lazy nightwatch). Did the lounge in the saloon convert easily to beds? Do these designers just assume people on these cats are always sitting and sipping cocktails. What about the couple on long passages? Horizontal spaces required haha.
Interesting that there is also a curved monitor... When I was a kid my mother always said interesting when she was not happy, and we knew to shape up, or our curved backside would get a little flattening. Life was more interesting back then, now not so interesting. Clean walls are so much nicer. No mold, and problems not hidden behind heavy padding.
I walked away from my laptop while watching and from a distance I thought Randy had a parrot on her shoulder but it was a sweeter. I guess slow internet makes you imagine things. LOL
curves are much stronger then right angles just think of arches added to that great water run off, excellent idea also cool to walk on bare foot. seawind make great cats at great prices.
Interesting, yes but the Maine Cat 38 is amazing. Dick Vermeulen has been building cats for 26 years. His latest with its Etech drive is the boat for the 21st century! Perhaps biased because I live in Maine, about 15 miles from their plant.
1160 , 1160 lite and 1190 all use the same basic hull . For the price I find them difficult to not like . Randi 's "meh" well , she wins as the boat doesn't talk to her "soul" so not a boat for her . The 1160 lite and 1190 still use the outboard motors , which I like as easy repair and no sail drive "issues"
I saw this boat at the Annapolis show, and was amazed at how many trip and fall hazards there were on deck. All those curves does not add confidence. Plus that master bed was way too high off the ground, climbing in and out of it will get old fast.
Love your reviews. Please try to get in on a 1600. Would love to hear your assessment. Until our courses cross, fair winds and full sails. Jack never2old adventures
LOL...you finally noticed how often you say "interesting" when doing your boat tours. Actually, my sailing friends and I made up a drinking game when watching! Anyway, most all times you do say it, the thing you've noticed is actually Interesting. LOL! keep up the tours!
word of the day today appears to be "interesting". Your boat tours are nice, but I find that I enjoy the tours that you have the boat to yourself and are able to take your time. These Annapolis tours are great for the variety of boats you're getting but the quality seems to be quite different.
It's a foam core fiberglass boat, the curved surfaces maximize strength and rigidity. It is a very light boat at 14,000 lbs , the curved surfaces and lightness go hand in hand with lower cost and more efficient materials usage. Like the molded foam core counters and sinks.
When you sail a Seawind and experience the duel helms you can't go back. You can sit on the hull and sail them like a dingy which is amazing. When I get on other cats a go into a tack I feel myself wanting to walk to the other side. You can't judge them on the dock you have to sail them. Also the low free board gives you a much greater feeling of speed. In my humble and very subjective opinion for the money I think the larger 1260 is the best yacht ever made. Check this video ruclips.net/video/Hh-0pspWJBA/видео.html
I didn't like it was all clear glass windows.Seams like it would get really hot in full sun.I have not seen any yet.But on someone else's vlog of his cat he built a full bath off the salon which I like allot.I would like to see a factory full bath like he's got.
Thanks for the great video ,I am glad you said to count the times you said interesting ,and the first to reply will get a free tee shirt ,because with some other channels that use a certain term all the time ,their subscribers take a shot or a drink of alcohol every time it's used ,and I don't think my liver could take 17 shots in just over twelve minutes.Cheers from down under.
I clearly hear 17 though at 3 minutes and 58 seconds, when she sat down and was speaking about the bench seat I believe there was another interesting which would take it to 18 it was unclear because she was not facing the camera.
Interesting boat and interesting video. I think with the hanging door, you are just asking for trouble, I would rather have 2 swinging doors that can be propped open or that slide into the wall, but not hanging. The rest of the boat is nice, not perfect, but a new Catamaran in that price range is Very Interesting!
I don't care for the slick modern design, I'm more of a traditionalist, and a big open front trampoline is what makes a cat a fun, and comfortable boat, the way this one designed makes it a spray trap, you'd get soaked in any kind of seas. I see it's a fractional rigged sloop, small mast, not much sail area, but she's not a heavy boat. Again, on a new boat, and especially for $350K, I'd expect a boom furler and better rigging. It's more of a party boat and not a serious blue water sailor, and for that purpose she's nice. The interior layout was okay, but I felt there was a lot of wasted space and no washer dryer? I didn't like the height of the master berth. I also agree with Randi on the galley down in the hull, I like galley up in the main cabin in a catamaran. I'm warming up to a catamaran, let's see more tours of them, but older monohulls are still my favorites. It was an "interesting" tour.
I am kinda torn with galley down below vs up above. I always see one below and think it looks cool and neat, plus allows more entertaining area above ... and yet I know I would HATE it actually living aboard. Person would be down below by them self instead of being able to co-mingle with the rest while prepping and cooking meals.
You like a galley up, really, what monohull has a galley up? with a galley up you lose a lot of space in the salon that is better used for entertaining or lounging, personally I prefer the Seawind 1260 rather than the other models.
Not top quality, problem with cats are 1. new ones are very expensive, 2. used ones are charter boats, 3. absurd prices for used boats, 4. higher fees in marina, 5. performance cats are weight sensitive, 6 cruiser cats are slow, basically a house boat. In a storm, what do you prefer, a cat or a monohull?

So I came back to this after you talked about it in the ‘can’t give away video’. One thing I noticed was there was no visible wood I could see . This probably helped keep the cost down and better for long term maintenance too . Is there any wood you can’t see? A fairly bare bones boat , if the basic hull and fig are standard Quslity could become a great option if they would do you a deal . If your stuck on electric drive you could get the small pod drives and drive off one battery bank. If the boat sailed as well as they say you would mainly sail everywhere . I think ruby rose like one of the larger seawind models as great value and design. A sail away version you use your skills to add the extras as you need would be interesting (!) to watch. In Australia 1160s are about the only yacht you don't have to wait ling to sell. I think that says it all.
Curves add to the strength without increasing the weight so that would probably be the major factor in design of the smaller cat.

Very interesting. The number is 15 Shirt size XL Beautiful tour. Thanks
What was the pricing of this boat?
I didnt find any videos where you looked at a wharram catamaran. Any plans to look into one of those?
I'd actually really love to get aboard a wharram. They're kind of hard to find in FL though.
I agree that there should be more entry level catamarans. Any thoughts on the Aventura 34?
For 2 people a perfect boat. Will sail fast. Good air flow. Add more solar and water maker and its good to go
On fair weather you can have the back door open so it makes the cockpit larger. These boats sail on their own bottom from vietnam where they are made to Australia so they are capable of long passages. Its like a boston whaler. Small but it can go out with the big boys
What an interesting boat.
Thanks for the boat tours. You have a unique channel. Its really cool because it gives me the importunity to see boats i otherwise would have never seen. Thanks!
Curves equal strength as you know. 🙌
Jordan, is that you in one of the Jamestown Distributor pictures?
What picture?
So, brand new at a lower price, or a nicer older boat at the same price? Buyer gets to choose.
Great, honest - and INTERESTING - assessment of the boat....thanks! I counted 17 "interesting" btw
I liked this cat much better than the Moody. The layout on the cat, while not ideal, makes more sense The door is just weird.
the door is excellent, trust me,
Interesting that there is also a curved monitor... When I was a kid my mother always said interesting when she was not happy, and we knew to shape up, or our curved backside would get a little flattening. Life was more interesting back then, now not so interesting. Clean walls are so much nicer. No mold, and problems not hidden behind heavy padding.
Morning!! I think I counted 17 interesting’s. Hahaha you guys are hilarious! Love seeing you on these videos. Nice haircut Randi! ♥️
I counted two Tiffany style comments!
You got it Tiffany! Send me an email with your address, shirt size, and preferred color and I'll get it sent out.
Great information, very entertaining. Thanks
I walked away from my laptop while watching and from a distance I thought Randy had a parrot on her shoulder but it was a sweeter. I guess slow internet makes you imagine things. LOL
interesting
Very interesting. I think a Lagoon or and Outremer would be a better choice.
I'm not sure, but it seems to be interesting 🤔
Curious, delightful, impressive, refreshing, striking, unusual...
curves are much stronger then right angles just think of arches added to that great water run off, excellent idea also cool to walk on bare foot. seawind make great cats at great prices.
17 interesting counted. You crazy kids. Lol loving the videos.
A free shirt is an interesting proposition. And arches (not curves) at stronger than flat surfaces all other things being equal.
That was the generator in the aft cabin. These boats are powered by two outboard engines.
Umm no
I like this Boat
this was very interesting!
Neo says, "you never said the word interesting, you only thought you said the word interesting."
Morpheus, "very interesting."
“You have a curve, you have a curve, you have a curve” 😂😂
Hahaha.. Funny they bag a boat they can never afford and when Randy has the bubs they will be better off at truck shows..
think I counted 16 interesting’s. Btw i love your boat tours
Can't get a job, so I'll be a reviewer. All very interesting
I really think they both have full time jobs.
Pornhub was busy...
well a lot of people liked them they sold out their production schedule for the next 2 years apparently. They are really popular here down under.
18 times, very interesting!!!!
Jack
never2old adventures
They aren't sailing, though!
What is “the price” ???!
It is is only 11.60 long you truly showed your lack of experience in vessels of this size. Curves = strength
I'll say 18 interestings, just to be different. ^^
Another great, honest boat tour. Thanks guys.
Hey guys. Again a great video. I counted 16
LOL...you finally noticed how often you say "interesting" when doing your boat tours. Actually, my sailing friends and I made up a drinking game when watching! Anyway, most all times you do say it, the thing you've noticed is actually Interesting. LOL! keep up the tours!
Seawind took a good look at Prout escale catamarans it seems... interesting 🤔
word of the day today appears to be "interesting".
Interesting!!!!
And they did not show him actually walking awkardly forward on deck or going back awkardly to the cockpit. Just standing still.
It has galley down.... It actually has a lot of other issues as well, not getting into them here.
Aventura 34 is better in all to me : design, volume, saloon, bedroom, outfitting ... for half the price
Start Sailing!
YES!!!
As a total Spock fan, interesting is the logical word 😂😂😂
Nice to be sure, but it seemed claustrophobic to me. 16?
Good vid ya'll.
Free shirt? Interesting!
Omg have a look at how many ha e circumnavigated.. not an open water boat ? Far better sea manners than a lagoon or a leopard
I am kinda torn with galley down below vs up above. I always see one below and think it looks cool and neat, plus allows more entertaining area above ... and yet I know I would HATE it actually living aboard. Person would be down below by them self instead of being able to co-mingle with the rest while prepping and cooking meals.
This is brutal listening to these two.
You like a galley up, really, what monohull has a galley up? with a galley up you lose a lot of space in the salon that is better used for entertaining or lounging, personally I prefer the Seawind 1260 rather than the other models.
Why don’t you mention prices?
look above price listed in "show more"
Lost count, but thanks for the tour!
Cute Hair!!!
Cute everything...
"Cheapest" sounds negative -- "least expensive" is more descriptive / accurate
That is funny. I have been making a conscious effort lately to not use cheap.
@@jamieminton172 Years ago I referred to one of the products I was selling as the "cheapest" in my product line. My boss corrected me "least expensive". I have since eliminated "cheapest" from my vocabulary.
@@rgmsonar0307 Got you here and putting metrics on YT for LtL... So maybe there's more to this earth than dreamt of in blah blah blah you get the point.
@@rgmsonar0307 That is the exact reason I have been correcting MYSELF. English is a fickle language which requires some premeditation, especially when "Marketing" ;)
No matter the word if you're considered a pagan you're paying for it twice .
I counted 17 “interesting’s”...
Cheers warren
Cheers Warren
Gotta niggle on the term cheap, that word indicates a lack of fit, finish or guality of materials. None of those guality s were indicated in yer vid
Thanks for the tour.
i lost count after going through my fingers and toes.
