    I am 75, I have lived aboard 2 other times, first a 24 foot double end sail boat in San Diego in the 80's, then a 36 foot houseboat in the 90's and now, still spry, I just popped for a 24 foot Century Antigua cruiser. I am so stoked, I take possession tomorrow on the Mississippi River. Wish me luck.

    The condition of the boat, in addition to it's other attributes makes it an excellent choice for a solo sailer or couple.

    A tiller is definitely better than a wheel. It gives you better feel of the sail trim, and it’s easy to know where your rudder is pointing. It’s also simple and less prone to failure.

    I know you are some experienced sailors, but I have some food ideas that I use backpacking, that would work well under sail. Each meal is put in a pint freezer bag and you add 1 cup boiling water, let sit 5-10 minutes, then eat out of the bag. No dishes to wash. First, biscuits and gravy: Take 1 pack ramen and break up into tiny pieces and put in freezer bag. Instead of the seasoning packet, put in 1/2 pack of Pioneer Country Gravy mix. Add 1 cup boiling water, let sit 5 minutes, then eat. Could add some bacon pieces if you have them. Second, Spanish Rice and Beans: Tape 1 pack of Knorr Spanish Rice Side and divide into 2 freezer bags. Then add 1/2 cup Dehydrated Refried beans to each bag. Add 1 cup boiling water and let sit for 10 minutes. Could add some cheese and Fritos if you have them. For breakfast, I put 1 cup Raisin Bran into freezer bag and add 1/3 cup NIDO (or powdered milk). Then add some water, shake, and eat.

The propane cans for your stove should not be stored inside the cabin. If they leak, the gas presents a major danger. One pound of propane might not blow up your boat but it won’t be a good day. Best wishes!

    I'm amazed that your boat still floats. We had a Cirrus in 1971-4 but nowhere near that level of equipment. It was a lovely boat but our children got too big and we upsized. I had every confidence in it and it sailed superbly, being very steady on the helm and faster than most boats up to 24' at the time, but it was the internal space that I most remember.

    Your boat made me happy! So small and yet so much space. Less is more and smaller is bigger haha! It was really just 4000 dollars? Nice. I'm still on my motorcycle now. In a not too long time I will walk the world on foot. Such a sailboat is also quite appealing to me. I already have the sailing license for the inland trip, now I will still issue the certificate for all seven oceans. Who knows if I will one day sail a small sailboat around the seas ...

    Here in Massachusetts there was a local story that mentioned because of Covid-19 and because people can't travel everyone went out and bought a boat so boats and slips and moorings are hard to come by. Evidently there is also a shortage of bicycles.

      @@DFX2KX I have an old schwinn mountain bike that's in good shape but the front fork has shocks built in and they are shot. I don't know if I can get replacements. I ended up looking at the electric conversion kits on amazon. I did not know they had gas conversion kits too. With the shortage of gas maybe I should buy one.

    • @DFX2KX
      @DFX2KX 3 года назад

      @@tmc200527 the easiest way to tell if you've got an easily replaceable fork on a bike is to look at the riser, the part that the handle bars are attached to. If it has a pair of allen bolts opposite the bars, then it's a 'straight tube' stem and replacements are reasonably easy to come by, if it just has a single bolt at the top, it's a 'quill stem' and there's basically nothing out there.
      so it depends on just how old that Scwinn is, and what price tier it was made for.

    That was fun.
    I just recently started reading about sailboats, their owners, and their excursions. Some were restricted to certain oceans, others around the world.
    One husband and wife team were just like you guys, and had their baby with them, and the kid learned to walk while they sailed from Oslo Norway all the way to Auckland. Honest! They had him tethered to the railing. If you'd like to read their book, it's called: "The Cruise of the Teddy" by Erling Tambs. His book was published in the late 1930s but you can still find a nice copy.
    Thanks again, guys... loved the tour.

    great boat! A lot of people watching this will think they can go grab a 22' and get everything you have but that's kind of a rare bird. I have a 22' South Coast but it has a swing keel so i have a keel trunk inside the cabin and could not stand up inside even without the trunk. No bulkhead door separating the v birth but my birth is full width so I could cuddle if needed. No separate head either, just the porta potty with the issues you pointed out and no inboard engine either. The trade off I can live with is that the boat only draws about 4" with the keel up and she sits low on the trailer so is also comfortable as a camper. If you're looking for a boat you can camp on like this one, be prepared to add about four foot to get all these amenities.
