This brings back memories. Back then, I was a flight engineer on Continental 727s based in Guam. A few months later, I got based in Newark and stayed there for the rest of my career with Continental that later merged with United.
Continental got their fleet painted in the "new" livery pictured here in record time. Just 12-16 months earlier better than 75% of the fleet was still wearing meatball/people express look. Great video. Forgot UAL flew the 747s to EWR and great catch with a very late grey AA Airbus before they figured out how to paint them chrome like the rest of the fleet. They started painting the A300-600Rs chrome the year before. And Kiwi! This was nearly 27 years ago already. Wow time flies. Thanks for sharing this.
Also this brings me back to the good old days of when a family regardless of age of passenger or traveling at all can go and either accompany someone or meet them at the gate. That all ended after September 11th Which Ironically there is a shot of the towers standing
4:14-4:36 Continental Express (Pre ExpressJet) ATR-42 I was a Flight Attendant for them May 1997-August 1998 except o was based in Cleveland The ATR did not fly in and-out of Cleveland when I worked for them however once I was given a 3 day trip working Onboard the ATR-42 loved that plane. Out of Cleveland when I worked for them Express flew the Beech EMB-120 and the EMB-145
Great video of the good ole days and classics! Got a question, what airline is that 727-200 at the 6:57 mark of the video? I can't make out the first word of that airline company.
@@alancampbell9908 Ok! I would have never been able to guess that. Never thought about the Cruise Ship's having their own airlines. Not aware if the ships down at Galveston Island (southeast coast of Texas) does that. I assume Southwest Airlines would help, since they practically own Houston Hobby Airport in south Houston, TX.
It is, DC-9-80. Douglas later renamed it "MD" after the McDonnell merger but American still went the original nickname for it, the "Super 80" throughout its service life. Perhaps since the bulk of there's were original early-mid 1980s delivered models that would be later marketed as series -82s. Had the DC-9 cockpit blue, steam gauges and the updated autopilot. After the TWA merger they got a ton of newer -83 models from them, with hybrid glass and a pink cockpit color. They upgraded their original S80s with the new tailcone and retrofitted the hybrid glass cockpit and FMS. In the 80s and early 90s the AA Super 80s even had their tail in chrome like the 727s. In this video shot in '96 they had already painted them grey. The MD-80 series is fascinating, so many variations and models.

Excellent video, it brought back memories of my 13 year old self at Newark glued to the window watching these planes.

Yeah I feel so nostalgic from seeing all these classic birds
Damn, I was born the day before xD
Jokes aside, I wish I lived the 90s with the same passion for aviation...

I loved Midwest Express the first Airline I worked for, had good pass benefits with them and I tried to fly them whenever I could
Newark airport the airport I frequent the most on the East Coast
This always shows up when I type "plane spotting at Newark"
I miss the UA Saul Bass livery.

Carnival Airlines, The Cruise Ship Company had an airline to serve their ports back in the 90s

Just have a question the trans World Airlines and Pan Am operations at Newark Airport in addition to JFK and LaGuardia Airport
That American Airlines plane I see there (3:30), it has got to be a McDonnell Douglas MD-80.
