      Any idea what aircraft type Air France flew to Newark summer of 2000?

  • @samwilson308
    @samwilson308 3 года назад +25

    I'm almost 100% sure that the Continental DC-10 at 13:49 is the exact aircraft that led to the crash of Air France flight 4590. While the tail number and number on the front landing gear doors are blurry, I'm almost positive that I can see the tail number N13067, plus the mini Alitalia and Continental logos next to the word "Continental", both of which match the picture of the aircraft that dropped the metal strip that brought down the Concorde.

    It’s eerie to see the twin towers which only had one more year to stand during the filming of this video. All the people going about their lives and having no clue that they were boarding a doomed plane. I can’t imagine the terror the passengers experienced.

    I wish USAirways would’ve held onto their MD-80’s just a little longer and painted them in the navy/grey colors.
    I really miss the diversity of commercial aviation. It’s definitely not the same (for me, at least).

    • @jocelynharris-fx8ho
      @jocelynharris-fx8ho Год назад

      Me too'. I grew up during the 1970's and 80's when there was lots of colorful and fun airlines. Before deregulation, airlines used to paint their planes in the most wild and attention getting designs, as a way to stand out from the others. Anyone remember the original Braniff ? Including their big orange 747s that they nicknamed The Great Pumpkin' after the elusive spirit in the Peanuts cartoons. And speaking of orange planes, remember CP Air? ( Canadian Pacific). How about Hughes Airwest? Spirit was not the first airline to fly bright yellow planes. I also loved TWA's final color scheme; the blue, red and yellow stripes with a stylized globe. Today's airline executives are too' cheap and lack the creativity to invest in what used to be known às flying Billboards.

    I remember when I was a little kid woken up at about 5 AM for a 7 AM flight to MIA/KMIA (“Miami”) on CO/COA (“Continental”) out of EWR/KEWR (“Newark”) and flying back about a week later from TPA/KTPA (“Tampa”). I sometimes call to this day [Tuesday, November 17th, 2020] UA/UAL (“United”) Continental.
    I believe going to the airport [EWR] and seeing (what I now as) “Maddogs” (such as DC-9s, MD-80s/MD-90s and possibly 717-200s), 737 classics, 737 NGs (737 Next-Generation), 757s and maybe an 727; probably what I now as “wide-bodies” such as, DC-10s, 767s, maybe 747s and an L-1011.
    I believe the sentence above is how I caught the aviation bug.

      Funny you mention that...
      At 14:09, there's another Continental DC-10, this one with mini Alitalia & Continental logos next to the word "Continental". Now, while the picture is a bit blurry, you can almost make out the registration number, which appears to end in a 7.
      According to Wikipedia, the Continental DC-10 blamed for the crash of Air France 4590 had the registration number N13067, and the picture provided also shows the same miniature logos next to the word "Continental".
      I took a few minutes to look carefully at the registration number of the DC-10 at 14:09, and that, combined with the mini logos, leads me to believe that this is the very aircraft that caused the crash of the Concorde, N13067. Furthermore, if you start looking at the plane's front landing gear doors at 14:03, I'm almost certain that they say 067, the last 3 digits of the tail number. While not 100%, I'm about 95% sure that THIS is the very plane that brought down the Concorde.
