Been through Hartsfield a few times flying Delta, flown their 727-200's, even the classic DC-8's and L-1011 (my first experience on a real jumbo). As other's said, the Delta livery in those days was the best. A airplane watcher's paradise.
never going to happen due to deregulation , low fares and bus people being able to travel. flying lost its luster and privilege in the early 80' and will never be the same. I worked for Delta from 1976 until I retired in 2008. I saw the degradation of air travel first hand.
Yup, when you could actually welcome and see your loved ones off. I was a kid traveling in the 90s, a lot of times as a UM but flying was something to look actually forward to back then.
I miss those times 😢 MD-11 in Delta livery, was truly spectacular ❤️ I flew once on L-1011 from Frankfurt to JFK but unfortunately never had a chance to fly on MD-11.
Awesome stuff! On the larger less frequented or planes on the last legs with the airline, I would purposely asked to be placed on one, with a window seat with a view not directly over the wing. I love flying, but I especially loved it in those days!
This was the "Golden Age" of the 1990s for Delta, fresh of the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. At the time my dad flew 757/767s for Delta based out of CVG. He used to say the road to Hell must go through Atlanta, just like every Delta flight.
Ja das stimmt damals die schönen alten Flugzeuge mit der b727 b707 und der Lockheed TriStar und den 737 100 bis 200 schön Laute Triebwerke. Und Woher kommst du.ich wohne Dortmund

By this video, Harry Stonecipher had already killed McDonnell Douglas and Boeing would take over in a few months. That Delta MD-11 sure was the most comfortable ride ever. They are the only ones in this video still operating as of 06/23. Interesting to see NW, VJ, US, etc still operating and those JT8 hushkits...
These airplanes were much better and safer than the horrible planes of today. The MD-11, L-1011, 747-300, 727-200 and A340-600 all shown in this video, have more than 2 engines. Unlike the airplanes of today that go overseas with 2 engines. It is a shame.
Think ETOPS has proven over the last 25yrs. that twin engine long range flight works well. The aircraft you mentioned needed more than two engines to lift the MTOW.
Bro stop talking rubbish number of engines doesnt matter and aviation is always great and not horrible, and also there were way more crashes then than now
@@NickChigozie don’t be rude at me. The more engines the safer. This is proven fact. That is why US specifically use 747 for Air Force One! It is because it has 4 engines. Read about it and learn the facts before you get rude and attack someone!
Not a plane white non-descriptive accountant special paint scheme in sight! The Delta livery for some reason always brought a sense of exotic destinations Ie Florida the Deep South etc Now it’s an awful livery
Back when flying and travel was fun. I still like the old Delta colors. And miss the TriStar L1011 and that distinctive Rolls Royce engine sound
Tru bro
Yep, like American, they never should have changed that scheme.
Yeah, those Delta jets were roomy! I’m 6-5 and I really liked the extra leg room!
@@GainesMediaInc American Airlines with those Big red n'blue Capital AA''s on the tail andjust the bare metal was a fave , horrible scheme now
I worked for Delta for 32 years. Delta was a great airline and if you worked for Delta back then you had a lot of recognition and a great job.
The old Delta "Widget" Livery design that began in 1961 was the best Delta livery and one of the best of all airlines. I sorely miss seeing it.
That MD88 at the beginning of the video took it's last commercial flight just 4 years ago. RIP the MD88!
Love those 767s and I prefer this prior Delta livery to the one they use now.

Thanks for sharing this wonderful time capsule. 25 years later and the 757s are still flying!!
Way better than jetliners of today!
Excellent footage. Bring these days back, please! 🥹

The busiest airport in the world, my hometown for the last 27 years Atlanta, Ga 👍
Delta employees actually bought a 767 for Delta. Ship # 102 named " The spirit of Delta"
That was back when you could go through security and to the gate with no ticket.

We were a USAir family. I enjoyed the nostalgia of seeing the livery again. 😊
Hearing the Acey callsign and seeing the ASA airplanes sure brought back memories. I was a Brasilia FO in 1998.
I was ASA pilot from 2007-2014. It was a good company.
A Delta MD-11, that is truly a needle in a haystack! Also loved seeing that Lufthansa A-340, they still fly in/out of KIAH.
26 years ago today. I will always love aviation.
Enjoyed the video, especially loved seeing all the Delta Air Lines jets. 🙂👍
Amazing footage Mr. Campbell. Well Done!!
I got the chance to fly N900PC out of Atlanta 25 years later in 2023, what a great time capsule of a video!
I miss those times 😢

Great footage. A classic era

I'd be traveling for the first time solo at 16yo to Madrid, Spain via Atlanta on a Delta L-1011 just a few weeks after this vid was shot :)
That was on my birthday. I had worked for Delta for 22
years then. retired after working for Delta for 32 years.
I miss you northwest airlines ❤
The best Delta livery! 👍🏻
The widget scheme 😍
This was on my 16th birthday!!!
Some old Delta Air Lines livery colors.
I remember AirTran.

Wow I can’t believe that Lufthansa a340 was only four months old in this video
magnificent to see that Delta Md -11 in its prime ,
I cannot believe this was so long ago this was like before I was born
Backing up without a tug isn't something you see anymore these days! 13:20

Interesting I don’t remember ATL mobile lounges (then again I was only 8 back then)
They still have mobile lounges at IAD.
Was that KLM a 767?
Yes it is
Yes it was. Delta employees provided ground services for KLM
Que chévere 😃😁
so, this is how Atlanta Airport looks like before 18 days I born!
Did I just see a tail strike?
8:30 typical delta pilot. wont approach the gate due to a candy bar wrapper on the tarmac.
TriStar 500 @7:00 in its twilight of service
I was working that day

Delta got a lot of air miles over the years with that Lockheed L-1011 fleet .
Thanks for tail numbers
