I’m an air traffic controller in Atlanta. Not in the tower, though - I’m a radar controller in a different place. It is the best job I’ve ever had. I have my days like everyone else. Shift work certainly isn’t fun and I’ve certainly missed my fair share of Saturday nights & holidays over the years. But it is meaningful work that also ends at the end of your shift and that is one of the best parts. I’m not taking a bag home full of work and I’m not answering my phone unless I want to. I do my job, I get in my car, and I watch work get smaller in my rear view mirror.
This is amazing! My son is a captain at Spirit Airlines, and Atlanlta is his home base. He has never told me much about the inner workings going on at the airport! Just wait until he gets home this week. I'm going to pick his brain even more. Wonderful video! Thanks to the person(s) responsible for making this video available to the general public.
Love everything abt aviation, I'd be thrilled if I came come from flyimg one day and my mother asked me a ton about my job and added in new info. This is my dream ❤
Just had a connecting flight from Jacksonville (FL) to Denver (CO),(May 29). Had about 40 minutes to get off in Terminal A and get on next plane in Terminal T. We Took the train. It ran very smoothy. They had already started the boarding process. We made the flight and our bags were tagged with a Rapid Transfer tag attached to the flight # tag. Everything worked very well and I have to say after watching this video on Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson Airport I am very impressed. They may be the World's Busiest Airport, but every time I have flown thru the airport I have never lost a bag or that it did not make its connection. Great Work by all the men and women who work there to make sure we all get where we are going safely. I for one am a very happy and satisfied customer. I love Delta and wish that Denver Intl Airport was a hub for them. We prefer them over any other domestic carrier. Keep up the great work. The behind the scenes video was just fascinating to see how they are able to keep everything on schedule is just amazing.
one of the best and most informative documentaries i've EVER seen. loved seeing all the departments which I never knew about before, and all the interviews of the "average" workers which are so vital for an airport to run. great stuff
My dad is a pilot for delta on the 737, and used to be based out of Atlanta on the md-88. Cannot explain how much I love Atlanta. Plane spotters paradise
Been flying through this airport since 70s..Just had a flight to Atlanta to see friends for a couple days then a flight out to MX a month ago...Amazed how efficient things went.
3 dozen got the point I was making. Experienced flyer with a lot of experiences in ATL...Very few airports are as well run. Easy to navigate. O'Hare is another one.....To bad you don't get to travel. Sound jealous with negative vibes- energy.
This is one of the coolest and indepth informative documentary on an airport's functionality, nonethess of the busiest in the world....As a flying geek and an aviation lover, it was fabulously made...❤❤❤
WOW!!! I won't be complaining about the cost of an airline ticket anymore haha. That's INSANE!! Thanks for putting this video together! It was FASCINATING! Plus I freakin LOVE Delta, so it was cool seeing the operations of this airline.
I cannot imagine running a more complicated organization than an airline. There are so many things that can go wrong that it's incredible that things go right as often as they do.
Congres to everyone doing a good and outstanding job @ Airports. Is not that simple as it looks. It needs concentration, LOVE, precision and knowing what you signed for. Best job ever. Very dynamic environment.
I have been on a plane that they switched out for another and I was amazed with how quickly/easily they got that whole situation handled. Atlanta is an amazing airport!
The airport operates like a well-oiled, well-tuned machine. It's almost frightening how well it works. Maybe the people who run the airport should run the country. God knows they couldn't do any worse.
I’ve been through Atlanta airport many many times without incident. It’s a very well-designed airport with five runways as opposed to JFK with only two, it’s terminals are connected via subway and walkway, I have no issues whatsoever with Atlanta airport. The only issue is Delta may put me on an arriving gate B1 and a connecting gate on E 17 with a short connect connection time but that’s the only issue I see. I used to fly from San Diego to Baltimore via Atlanta monthly and never had an issue issue.
@@jyothathi9566There’s also an episode of Family Guy where Stewie plays Darth Vader. He steps out of his arriving spaceship, and says: “we came from a galaxy far, far away; but we still had to change in Atlanta.” 😅😅
in my experience from recent trips you can have most efficient system but if flights delayed sometimes due to atc holding flights back due to traffic etc there's literally nothing you can do and you just have to deal with delay but the airline will always get you there eventually
At 9:30 into the video they say, "75,000,000 pound plane," they are referring to its monetary value, not the weight of the plane, the announcer is British.
Wonderful documentary and highlights all the hard work that goes into making an airport run smoothly. Congratulations to the TSA for their great work. Such a shame though that there can be a minority with intent to harm passengers. Flying is such an amazing part of life and we are blessed to be able to travel the world
Wow, that's amazing! I do not fly often because I'm terrified (yes I know flying is safer), but I never realized how many responsibilities there are behind the scenes.
Most airports are the exact same way, you would be surprised how the behind the scenes operations works and just how interconnected everything is. Even with this video, airport operations is almost as incredible as a beehive or ant hill at work. Day in and day out..24 hours a day 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Dallas ( AA HQ trams are some of the most reliable and efficient airport train system)
Never lose your temper with airport workers. We’ll never lose temper with anyone working. Everyone is so important and their priority is to make your day go according to plan.
I question the strategy of sending so many connecting passengers and flights through one airport when Delta has other major hub airports (Minneapolis, Detroit, Salt Lake City, etc.) that can handle large numbers of passengers and flights. Many people who have connected in Atlanta tell me that it’s too overcrowded even with the large number of terminal concourses and runways. I much prefer Detroit or Minneapolis - less crowded at both! (I’ve flown through them.)
Atlanta is a much better candidate for a hub for both of those airports especially in the winter when it gets cold up north. Plus without delta Atlanta wouldn’t be anything so they get multiple benefits at the airport other airlines wouldn’t have.
Personally force my DL connections through Raleigh, Cincinnati, or DTW when I can in the summer just to avoid the Deep South storms. SLC is a slept on connecting hub if I’m going to the west coast or south west but not LAX
That's pretty simplistic logic, which is illogical for all of the moving parts. I love Hartsfield, even though they sent my luggage to Frankfort, KY instead of Frankfurt, Germany...
I want to work at an airport. At my local airport for the ramp agent positions, the pay seems to be far too low for the labor required and be attractive. However I haven't seen any Airside Safety positions and I feel like I would enjoy that more.
If you have any type of mechanical or electrical skills try and get a job in the facilities maintenance department. It will pay a lot better than working on the ramp.
Probably not a lot of difference for a train station serving 100,000,000 people a year. Having to maintain thousands of miles of rail lines may be even worse.
@@kmir224lol what a lie. There can be both cars and trains, but rail is absolutely not impractical for America. You should be able to take a rail from Naples FL to Miami, from Atlanta to Savannah, etc.
@@BellaJoASMR lie? WTF? obviously, with enough money, almost anything is possible. also, you mentioned smaller, in-state rail travel. i'm talking about connecting major railways throughout all the major cities in the country
It’s not that it would be impossible to set up railways - in fact there used to be a lot more passenger trains in the USA than there are now. Most have been closed down or are only used for cargo (except for subways in the major cities), ever since commercial air travel has been a thing. The US is so huge that it would take a tremendous amount of rail to connect all the major cities as they do in Europe and some parts of Asia; plus trains are much slower than planes. Trains are better for smaller distances with dense populations, which is why they work so well in places like Japan, and still work for some US cities like New York. Planes are better for larger distances with less dense populations, which is what we mostly have in the USA.

@GamingWithMaddogBecause it can lead to confusion when you’re at an airport where Delta has 800 departures.
