  • On their Pirates podcast, Post-Gazette insiders Noah Hiles and Andrew Destin recap the weekend series against the San Francisco Giants and look ahead to the upcoming set against the Oakland Athletics. Can manager Derek Shelton's offense turn around its profound struggles that resulted in just three runs in regulation in three games? How much pressure is on Ke'Bryan Hayes, Bryan Reynolds and Oneil Cruz to be part of the solution? Is a demotion for former first-overall pick Henry Davis inevitable now? Is Rowdy Tellez breaking out of his season-long individual slump? How surprising was Quinn Priester's efficient start Friday night? And is there still reason for concern about closer David Bednar? Our duo tackles those questions and more.

When you talk about Pirate first round draft picks you need to add an asterisk. The Pirates do not draft according to talent. They draft according to cost. So their first round draft picks would be lot of other team's second or third round picks. Bednar is almost 30. He may have lost a MPH or two off his fastball. Now is the time for the pitching coach to step in and teach him how to pitch. Instead of just throwing. Rowdy was brought in to add some pop to the order. Just now he is north of the Mendoza Line. He has been a disaster.

Yeah, that is not true at all. It is fine to be frustrated about their development and complain about that, but draft picks are slotted now and they have drafted the best available since the new system was put in place.

The lack of action by the front office is appalling. The hitting is abysmal and the hitting coach is the only constant.. he’s been constantly awful. He makes hitters worse! Pathetic
