As a 47-year-old IT professional who has lived my whole life here and seen this place change in front of my eyes, I can confirm this video is accurate. I am from that generation when Bengaluru used to be called a sleepy and green town, not an IT hub or silicon valley of India. Greenery reduced, weather has depreciated, traffic and dirt/pollution have increased, roads are pathetic, culture and language have taken a hit. Migration and urbanisation have brought in few things but taken a lot.
Nothing different limited bandwidth but too much immigrants and too little common sense .Also notice all IT companies are located in 4/5 prime areas .Marathhalli Koramangala whitelfield Dairy Circle etc. And more over IT hub Bangalore is basically a backoffice resource provider. Moreover the government also has a major role but don't you think the company's know about this they could have just made mandatory WFh b fore pandemic upto 2days / week. Too much greed and too many stupid people . It's a fucking feedback loop .
Not even kidding. I once completed watching an entire movie in Silk board junction. I leave my office at 5PM by bus and reach home at 8:15 PM. I once took Yulu cycle and reached home within 1hour 30 minutes. My office is in Bellandur
I had a friend who got down from office cab near agara lake, finish a full lap run(2.5kms) and get back in the cab before it entered the silk board junction. That shows how aweful our traffic is 😭.
Being a PhD scholar in transportation, we are taught that the ideal share between public and private transport users for smooth traffic movement is 70:30. But in India, it is 30:70 or even worse in cities like Mumbai and bengaluru. A drastic shift is needed towards public transport, along with adoption of all those chota mota jugadi methods that we have been doing all these years with no appreciable effect.
I heard somewhere that an expert in this area had said “a country is not rich when even the poorest have cars, it’s rich when even the rich use public transport”
@@sohamdeshpande6595 Yes that's a well known philosophy towards urban planning. I agree about reducing the incentives, hiking parking fares, but it needs to be done in a phased manner to observe the effects carefully.
Exactly...... Lack of public transport and poor infrastructure quality and design causing conjunction on roads. People park their car here and there and that it covers almost 1 full lane each side creating terrible jams
Well.. there r some social reasons to it.. Even metro rails don't have have better seats here and travelling in standing is horrible especially for women where nobody's sure about who might touch them inappropriately and can't voice out as ppl keep moving.. Too much crowding without proper seating, untimely arrivals of buses and safety is the biggest threat for public transportation existence..

As someone who has been born and brought up in Bengaluru, i can tell that this video is accurate. Bengaluru was a paradise while I was growing up. Not much traffic, population was very less and kannadigas were filled. The weather was even better back then and now has been damaged a lot. With the infrastructure built without having the IT boom in mind, the streets started to become the worst. As much as outsiders are blamed by many natives, i think its wrong to blame anyone. Infra is being upgraded and other IT centered cities should be established. That's the only solution.
also both central and karnataka gov have only invested bengluru. Why don't they invest in other regions. Mysore and Mangalore have good potential. Even in our mh same problem is there.
@@SweetSourPickle it is what it is, when people from outside karnataka come here in search of education and job and then constantly tell us that Bengaluru has developed because of them and blame the native population for all the miseries, it annoys us

Leaving Bengaluru and develop tier 2/3 cities is a good ad lib but not practical. It's like saying there is too much money in Mumbai and it has to go to Bihar. We are using the wrong framework. Choosing to relocate companies simply results in other companies taking its place simply because the formula of educated population, network of technical professionals and pre existing infrastructure exists here. Benguluru was once called the retirement capital and also the garden City. When IT sector was introduced in Benguluru the whole scenario changed. With IT development lot of colleges also were established along with IT firms, this was fruitful for few years but eventually it led to uncontrolled expansion of the city. The roads remain the same but traffic increased many folds. Its a shame to the city administration for making banglore the most congested city with the worst traffic. From Garden city to worst traffic is a shameful journey towards development
Actually, while there were actually some really creative jokes on the traffic, this particular joke was more about the distance of airport from bangalore
Because there's absolutely no planning for future when building infra. The BBMP is still using the same plan it used for designing layouts 60 years ago. No wonder the roads are so small even in new extension areas. I once heard an anecdote from an old relative. He knew an officer and asked why the roads were so small. The answer was that, if the roads are big, the number of sites they can create will be smaller in number and hence less money for BBMP. The tax paying public is suffering for the greed and incompetence of officials. Story of our lives.

Just as some quick notes, it is also important to note that merely broadening roads may not be sufficient because of the concept of "latent demand" (people waiting to use the road who would not use it prior to its widening). Illegal construction by rich people seems like a secondary factor.

Also, I think Indian govt should start de-incentivising cars like Japan and the European countries have done.
@@sohamdeshpande6595 Yes that's a well known philosophy towards urban planning. I agree about reducing the incentives, hiking parking fares, but it needs to be done in a phased manner to observe the effects carefully.

@Aditya Srivastava I have been to ghaziabad. I am seeing the development in the last 5 yrs, it is not enough but at least it has started. I have a question, is it true that Ghaziabad is having problems in relocating people
@@eashanshetty8879 Yes, you are actually right. But Maharashtra is lot better than Karnataka which is solely dependent on Bengaluru for revenue generation.
There is no single city in Karnataka which has a million plus population apart from Bengaluru.
Atleast Maharashtra has Nagpur, Nashik and Aurangabad which can be comfortably called as Tier 1 cities.

In 2021, Bengaluru must fulfil its destiny as India's IT capital and mandate Work From Home for 75% employees in IT and desk jobs. Entirely stop using roads for daily commute to work.
Silk Board traffic will be a thing of the past
Seriously, that makes so much of sense. All IT companies must come up with this solution together.
All points valid , but it's missing some local touch, one of the points I observed is that most of the people are migrants and they don't feel it's there city and feel that it's temporary problem for them and never try to fix it.. most of the old part of bengaluru is well planned with less traffic..
I would not blame the outsiders here, they are not involved in governence, we are.
That being said, I remember bringing my Assamese friend over to stay at Basavangudi and he later told me that he used to think the whole of Bengaluru is like Marathahalli. 🙄
As a migrant , working in Bengaluru i learnt the local language and follow the local customs and rules and pay my taxes on time, but brother i can,t influence the local ruling municipality as i dont have right to vote there , mostly i avoid to travel in peak hours and also i travel mostly via local buses and car pools. Hope that helps, let me know what can i do more to improve our bengaluru.

Absolutely , this is the biggest failure of our Indian society. What about their human rights?

And I further asked how much they get money , they told that they are working on contract and he pay him 100-150 rs if they work whole day..
There's a great detailed video on youtube about this if you search. I accidentally came to that video but that video just trembled me that in what pathetic condition they are surviving even in this 21st century.
@@dheerendrasingh5937 Oh , today I came to know about it that they work on contract basis because earlier I used to think that they are paid by government. Now I can guess how much are they safe while doing these works as they are working under such hazardous condition on contract basis.
The problem with public transport in Bengaluru is that most areas aren't connected properly. Moreover the buses don't arrive on time also
Nowadays even bus frequency had reduced a lot. Especially in those areas where metro facility is present.
That's because buses do not have dedicated lanes or signal priority in spite of carrying more people per vehicle.

This guy is still so underrated! He deserves more than this 😊😊
Bangalore as a metropolis cannot survive for long... because there is no natural water drainage...the main source of water Kaveri needs to be pumped up 300-600m height up to reach Bangalore...Also Bangalore is losing is lakes and water percolation areas because of roads and construction...
That 300-600 m height / Elevation resulted in cool weather conditions in Bengaluru and more people moved here from all parts of the country
@@_GMP_ When a city like Manali , Ladakh have run out of water but they could manage somehow... Imagine a city like Bangalore...
@@_GMP_ where is 300-600? Bangalore is 900m above sea level 😂
I think he meant Bangalore is 300-600m above Kaveri.
Kaveri water from TK halli is not sufficient and ground water is not safe and bad for the environment. Rainwater harvesting is the only hope.
@@ManojKumararch Govt of Karnataka more than 50% income is from Bengaluru & surrounding areas.
Govt can bring water from Mangaluru, Udupi , shivamogga & Chikmagalur district rivers excess water which flow into Arabian sea.
But this will effect the ecology of those areas this should not be an option but this will be last option if there is no other way.
It's good time to adopt Rain Water harvesting in buildings with min 40*60 area , clearing Rajakaluve & Rejuvenation of lakes.
Changing people's habbit & reducing water wastage must be done

Not only Bengaluru, I'd say most Indian cities are worse when it comes to infrastructure. Most Indian cities will catch up soon, In a decade or so, given still most ppl live in countryside.

The native population in Maharashtra and Karnataka is declining and the North Indian population is growing tremendously.
Kannada population in Bangalore is 38%. Have remained.
Most of the IT companies are concentrated at the eastern point of Ring Road. That's major reason for Silk Board congestion.
Bengaluru has been ranked as most liveable city in India and on the other hand we have this study what a contrast!
That's because South Bangalore is still an awesome place to live and has managed to retain(somewhat) the old Bangalore cham. The problem is when you need to travel a distance of more than 5 km.
Employment is a big factor I think.

Bangalore should adopt work from home for every 3 out of 5 working days for its tech sector. Bangalore traffic was very light throughout 2020 and 2021 after lockdown.
After living in Mumbai for 8 years, I shifted to Bengaluru in Jan 2020 and i could sense the difference in traffic on the first day itself. And i was fed up with the traffic in the first two weeks.
Very true, I have crossed this junction since 2015 to 2020 March. Horrible traffic each single day.
The worst part is the lack of accountability. I remember a case where a famous female bike rider lost her life to a road accident due to a pothole and the authorities simply blamed her for 'Rash driving'. Absolutely inhuman, incompetent and pathetic!
This is what happens when there is a lack of proper planning and no infrastructure. When you focus all the wealth to be generated from only few cities and don't even think about developing other parts of the country or state, then the so called development turns into a disaster. Anyways it's high time that's India should stop depending only on IT jobs and instead focus on other careers also. We call our dirt filled and sewage leaking, narrows roads with traffic jammed cities as metropolitan and developed cities.
