When we see people throwing waste like this. We should call them out publicly then and there. But we don't want to make a scene there and tangle in unnecessary banter, so we sigh and ignore.
My neighbours don’t pay Rs150 to the garbage collecting truck and instead throw it in the open. Owners of 2-3 storied buildings, “civilised” and “educated people”, throw the garbage in the open lands. How long can we blame the government.
Rightly said. That too only a handful of people are getting rich, and those who are not getting rich are the ones taking loans just for iPhones and an expensive car.

I started cleaning the area around my house regularly, seeing this, the people around me started throwing trash there expecting me to clean up after them. They were unreasonable to speak to. They even used public parks to dry clothes and threatened violence when confronted.
I think India should have a law about having to clean their neighborhood or specific areas in their city for small offences like in other countries, I have grown up watching popular media where the characters would hate the day they had this duty but did it anyway.

That is what you get when there's no consequence of punishment of doing bad things, government should learn to be strict like Japan, Singapore, China, etc, they heavy fines for such activities
Indian littering abroad is so true. There is only one difference between kid and adult- Adults think about the consequences of their actions and can imagine how it affects others.
No, it is in the cultural ethos, that is why almost all cultural capitals are cleanest in Bharat like Surat, Indore, Chennai, etc. It is just that woke cities like Delhi have such problems.
Indian People Logic: Help social workers ❌ Become Civil and respectful ❌ Don't spit ❌ Blame Government ✅ (Edit: Not all people because good people are here too. Also Goverment has same faults too)
The main thing is people's mindset. We teach our next generation about religion, caste and all that, but nothing to ensure them growing up to a civillian with civic sense.
They are illiterate and The schools syllabus literally doesn't teach us the things we need. In Japan, till 4 grade, people are reached to clean their own school. Like You saw in shinchan
And middle class not getting anything and just paying tax The tax which government are still using to build a bridge in Bihar which just collapsed 4647949199449+times 💀🤚
The biggest issue I noticed with Indian cities: they are trying too much to copy the failed car-centric design of USA from the 50s and 60s, but cars do not scale well with population. There's barely any dedicated walking space in Indian cities, and many also lack metro networks or have half-baked metro networks like Bengaluru and Hyderabad. In China you could see them making similar mistakes early on, but now there are proper sidewalks (with a minimum 1.5 meter width standard), lots of nice public spaces, and very comprehensive public transit as well as high speed rail linking cities. I hope India learns from this rather than continuing to focus on car-centric infrastructure.
@@Stickman-rz9nuIn that manner, China should be the worst. In fact, 90-95 percent of people live in 10-30 percent of China. Population density is even higher than India in that area. Instead we shall focus on banning Vimal, Gutka, Take fines if someone throws garbage like in Srinagar etc
100% truth, also no one is talking about how much we are consuming more than we want, end result : Uncontrolled Garbage and Climate Change and No one wants to talk about consumerism.
Once I thought about how Singapore became such successful country and wondered why India which has similar problems can't solve them, then i realised that it was easier for Singaporean people to accept each other's nationalities and thrive together, but here in India we can't even accept the people of different caste/religion/ background whatever. It all starts with us citizens of this country, untill we become broad minded, our politicians will live on to loot us. The worse thing is that in our country people don't realise that those loans taken up by politicians that didn't make any progress but some how the funds landed in their pockets, ya all that lost funds , we have to pay them not those politicians.
Don't be naive . Singapore history is different than India's history . So don't compare . There is a reason why religion and caste such a huge issue in India .
Singapore is still almost a predominantly Chinese (75%-80%) racist country, which has developed a series of national strategies to keep the Chinese percentage above 70% for a long time to come, and regularly receives immigration of high quality Chinese talent from China. Similarly, Hong Kong's Chinese percentage is 95%, Taiwan's 98% and Macau's 94%. These countries and regions have predominantly Han Chinese populations and rank 1st, 3rd, 5th and 11th out of 46 countries and regions in Asia in terms of GDP per capita. China (92% Han Chinese) ranks 20th among Asian countries in terms of GDP per capita. India ranks 37th out of 46 Asian countries.
One of the main reasons for racial harmony in singapore is the government's violent crackdown on racism in the early days. They have strong meritocratic policies and anti racism laws. Anyone who makes statements or do something that disrupts the nation's racial and religious harmony were and still are jailed or expelled from the country.

I hear your frustration. 40 years ago when I first went to China, I observed nearly insurmountable challenges including lack of housing, cleanliness and outdated and decrepit infrasctructure. Not to mention corruption which has plagued the culture for thousands of years. I won't go into details, but today the situation is a different world; quite the opposite and improving with each day. It was not easy. I too have visited Delhi and Mumbai several times and you are correct on all accounts. The Chinese are no more intelligent or capable as Indians. The big difference IMHO is China's leadership and strong policies which have not always been acceptable with that of the West, but nonetheless have propelled 700,000,000 out of poverty, plain and simple It would be in India's interests to put down whatever differences they may have with the Chinese and/or Chinese gov't and learn from them. Together India and China could accomplish so much more and really create an Asian Century.

Previous generations who procreated mindlessly are to blame for this. They have blood on their hands. Due to this, the life of the average person in this country is simply not worth living. Disadvantages of this extreme overpopulation: 1. Toxic and hypercompetitive education system that only focuses on marks. 2. Overcrowded classrooms, roads, hospitals, parks, public places, tourist places, etc. 3. Road accidents and road rages. 4. Unavailability of bus and train tickets, even during urgency. 5. No footpaths on most roads, severely restricting walking space. 6. No parking space due to which half of the road space is occupied by parked vehicles. 7. Rise of obesity in young Indians due to the unavailability or overcrowding of parks, open spaces or recreational centres. 8. Young Indians preferring to stay indoors because of the depressing crowd outdoors. 9. Auditorium-sized classrooms with 250-300 students preparing for competitive exams which have less that 0.5% selection rate. 10. Severe unemployment causing huge stress to students and young adults during their prime years and prompting them to take extreme steps. 11. Low, meagre salaries even when you are overworked because you are easily replaceable. 12. Rising obesity, diabetes and heart diseases because people only think about their careers. It's madness all around.

I'm glad you are talking about this issue, I've been talking about it to my friends and family, i had delivered a speech in front of my class and the topic i chose was "How badly planned Indian cities are?" I emphasized on pollution, traffic, lack of sidewalks There is a street in Ranchi where thousands of students of age 8-18 pass by and there is no sidewalk for them, the roads are filled with trash and no one does anything And when i tell people why our country is doomed they call me anti-national, if i tell someone to throw the waste in the trash can instead of railway platform they'll say "hame kya ye saaf karna govt ka kaam hai" I'm so sick of it i wanna leave India and flee to a country with better living conditions ASAP
hating your country isnt anti national at all. if your parents hit you, does that mean they hate you? a true nationalist will point out the flaws instead of ignoring them. i dont blame you for wishing to move out of india at all, if you work hard you will. i also feel like our country is doomed, but i will be consider ed "anti national"
@MawaliMurtad why would we stay here? tell me? indians who respected this country received the worst treatment. A good example is Nambi Narayan who rejected NASA to develop ISRO and what did he get in return?
We as a country never understood the importance of well planned cities. Every developed country is highly urbanised because cities are lungs of an economy. The faltu rural romanticism like the "go back to villages" Of Gandhiji perfectly describes this problem. So after independence, except for few examples like chandigarh, gandhinagar, naya raypur etc we never built any planned cities. So when our economy grew rapidly everyone went to the same 4-5 metro cities. Those were never designed to house such a large population and as a result we see what a mess those have become. And even out of 4-5 metros Mumbai, chennai, new delhi, kolkata were all built by the British. Even today more than 55% of people live in rural areas so they are a big vote bank so politicians don't give a fuck about urban issues. We don't even have a proper civic sense of how to live in cities that's why we see so much stray animals wandering, trash, indiscipline etc.
The only one to Blame about all this are we, the citizen of India. The three major changes we need in our Daily life to improve our Cities are simple and as follows:- 1. "Cleaning is a work of lowly people", we have to change this mindset. 2. Cleanliness and Public Infrastructure should be in top 3 priorities of a common Indian Voter. 3. Cleanliness should be taught to kids from their early ages in Schools.

Goverments are there for a reason: they are supposed to be for the common good. 1. They can spend our taxes properly on issues that affect common welfare 2. If they create good infrastructure, awareness and laws etc, then public will maintain it Otherwise, why do we need govt
Everyone has a role in economy bro everyone can't just throw their jobs and become a smaaj sevak that's why there are goverment to look onto these issues it's their job I'm not sayin that we shoud dump everything on government but atleast we are trying everything to support that's on our lavel.

Thanks a lot Mohak for covering this topic! Please start a mini-series of videos focusing on urban issues; 40% of India lives in cities and this will cross 50% in the coming years. Another major reason our cities are unlivable is car-centric infrastructure planning - we focus on roads and flyovers rather than clean, efficient public transport, and walkable and cycle-able neighbourhoods with tree cover. Most of the great cities of the world (European cities especially) are not covered by flyovers, are an absolute joy to walk around, and make it easy to go anywhere purely by public transport and walking. Many working class people in Indian cities walk and cycle, we should make our streets safe and comfortable for them.
@@rajibdutta6650 Size is not necessarily an argument - Tokyo is the most populous city in the world, and also amongst the cleanest cities with incredible public transport. Even if we accept size as an argument, then why are our Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities (which have comparable population to European cities) also in pathetic condition? Our cities are fixable, but if we try to find justifications to remain as we are, the battle is lost.
@@rajibdutta6650 That is true. As Mohak said, it's the broken windows problem - if we keep our streets clean, we would be less likely to make them dirty. Cities like Indore, Surat, Vishakhapatnam pride themselves on their cleanliness; we need to cultivate such an attitude in more Tier 2 and 3 cities.
I live in Indore. I have lived in Mumbai for 13 years. I sometimes cannot believe how drastic is the difference between the two places on level of cleanliness. BUT, even in Indore, despite all the efforts by the government workers, some people are still throwing their trash on the roads. It is not a government or political problem, it is simply some people of the city who don't have enough brain cells to understand how to keep their surroundings clean.
I highly request everyone to change the mindset of throwing garbage, wrappers, etc to anywhere on the ground. We must after eating chocolate, chips, etc keep the wrappers in our bag or pocket and throw it into the dustbins. THIS MENTALITY EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE TILL OUR LAST BREATH 🙏🏻
i am glad you point that out. My indian neighbour is a lecturer, educated men and a nice chap. but i cannot stand him throwing rubbish especially tissues and wrappers at will outside his house. My other neighbors from other nationalities doesn't do that. To be honest, among my Indian colleagues from engineers to even managers does the same thing even though the trash can is just in front of them. They are well dressed, have a clean house but doesn't care when it is in public or outside their house. I do agree its a mindset thing. Another thing i observed, they think picking up rubbish is a shameful thing to do which surprised me as for me, i would be ashamed if i don't pick up the trash and just leave the place dirty. This is not to say i am generalizing all Indians, so of them are really nice and kept clean either inside or outside their house. For me, the benchmark is always Japan. When i was in Tokyo, i can't find a single trash can on the street and yet its spotless clean, can't even find a cigarettes' butt on the floor. Impressive.
I recently visited my hometown Sahranpur, UP and I saw drastic change in the quality of roads the cleanliness and the cable management. I couldn't believe it was my hometown as in the past everything was so dirty and the roads were built on potholes. So it seems the government CAN do change through strict supervision and would like all of you to make your government do it's best to improve the situation

I am surprised how even separated for about 80 years, Indian and Pakistan cities look like carbon copy. There should be a study on how cities evolved. The answer must lie somewhere in late 19th century.
Cleanliness is Godliness. As a devout hindu, I see even most of our temples are unclean. We don't respect our own belief that goddess Lakhsmi resides in clean places. People just want to do their part like showering flowers and milk, placing oil lamps, etc, without any care about cleanliness. A temple I visited recently had flowers, kumkum, strewn around, agrabatti placed at random corners. They just want to show that they are doing something for their own peace of mind. Nobody is thinking about the place, but themselves.
Plus calling cow a mother but abandoning her after she stops giving milk and leaving her to eat trash on the streets. Calling ganga the holy river but still trashing it. Hypocrisy is filled in our veins!!
Honestly this is the video i wanted to see. Im so passionate about trash management it makes my blood boil. Yaar jidgar jao waha kooda yaar!! Ek sheher nhi h ye. Poore desh me ye hi haal h yaar. Fir jab foreigners India me aate h aur kehte that India and Indians are dirty to isme galat kya h bhai! Sach hi to keh rhe h! Hazam nhi hoti kya?? India has decided it wants to do nothing about it! I hate that. Can't stand all the littering that we do. One day i might decide to leave this country only because of our awful waste management and housing. Only my love for my family is keeping me here. Ek aur election aake khatam ho rha h aur ham ab bhi vo hi ghise pite muddo pr lad rhe h
The biggest problem is we aren't ready to accept that yes many people in our country our poor and uneducated, whenever this is said by a foreigner we get offended and start playing the blame game, we want to showoff a lot to others especially foreigners that we are perfect in ever aspect but we aren't.
And indians talk about competing with china 😂😂😂. Even the chinese villages are better than top indian cities.

Previous generations who procreated mindlessly are to blame for this. They have blood on their hands. Due to this, the life of the average person in this country is simply not worth living.
Disadvantages of this extreme overpopulation:

There is a street in Ranchi where thousands of students of age 8-18 pass by and there is no sidewalk for them, the roads are filled with trash and no one does anything

"when i tell people why our country is doomed they call me anti-national" exactly bro... I get that a lot too and I hate it so much.
hating your country isnt anti national at all. if your parents hit you, does that mean they hate you? a true nationalist will point out the flaws instead of ignoring them. i dont blame you for wishing to move out of india at all, if you work hard you will. i also feel like our country is doomed, but i will be consider ed
"anti national"
very true. apparently, we should defend our mistakes. That's just stupid. India is pretty much gone right now and i don't think its gonna change soon.
The three major changes we need in our Daily life to improve our Cities are simple and as follows:-
1. "Cleaning is a work of lowly people", we have to change this mindset.
2. Cleanliness and Public Infrastructure should be in top 3 priorities of a common Indian Voter.
3. Cleanliness should be taught to kids from their early ages in Schools.

1. They can spend our taxes properly on issues that affect common welfare
2. If they create good infrastructure, awareness and laws etc, then public will maintain it
Otherwise, why do we need govt

Everyone has a role in economy bro everyone can't just throw their jobs and become a smaaj sevak that's why there are goverment to look onto these issues it's their job I'm not sayin that we shoud dump everything on government but atleast we are trying everything to support that's on our lavel.

@@chad_male01not everyone can be a samaj sevak but the least they can do from their part Is to not throw trash around a place randomly or spite gutka just anywhere ,but sadly the people don't follow this too .Also the government can make laws about this, but people don't obey it anyways and the government also cannot lock up everyone who does this kind of activity in the jail. The difference I noticed between the before and after pictures of Indore was the added greenery and reduced road space. That's such a well thought out move. Something that the Americans themselves are now trying to change, building more protected bicycle routes and reducing access to motor vehicles to the heart of the city.
Are you an urbanist
@@ananyavaibhav6355 I wouldn't like to classify myself like that, but I like be able to live in a place that is safe and pleasant to walk and bike and without all the noise from cars. Usually those attributes come together in a well planned urban area.
You should also see the difference in population....

@@AnirudhSrivatsaProblem is with us. We are not disciplined enough.
@@rajibdutta6650 That is true. As Mohak said, it's the broken windows problem - if we keep our streets clean, we would be less likely to make them dirty.

Impressive.

Bahut achhi video bnai h mohak sir...
Aapne jo bate kahi usko mai apne level pr follow krunga...thank you apne samjhaya
Yeah, people are too selfish, be it on the roads or be it in the temples. They just don't care.
Well said. Mine thought is same. 😢
Same feeling, nobody is taking any steps to maintain cleanliness, instead they play blame games.
You just exactly wrote what I have been thinking all this time about India. I really wish we could do something about it
This happening from centuries
No vision on this
People here hv far more important issues like Mandir-Masjid and Pakistan 😂
The biggest problem is we aren't ready to accept that yes many people in our country our poor and uneducated, whenever this is said by a foreigner we get offended and start playing the blame game, we want to showoff a lot to others especially foreigners that we are perfect in ever aspect but we aren't. I hope we understand this and and contribute towards development instead blaming everything only on one another
