We just have 7-8 stretches of 1km which look international from certain angles. Indians are not civilized. There is no point having a beautiful well built city when citizens are trashy. We need dictatorship. Both ways. Strict citizens who keep government selfless and corruptionfree, and a wise government which keeps citizens disciplined and civilized.
When politicians eat up a majority chunk of the infrastructure project budget, then you don't have enough money to build quality infra, as a result, we have sub-par infrastructure.
Not true. I'm not saying there's no corruption in India, I'm saying the effect of corruption on India's situation is minimal. Even if there was no corruption in India, it would have look nearly the same becuase we are too many people with too little money. It's that simple.
In the west I always heard China this China bad, but when I visited months ago with a diplomat, oh my god it was sooo clean, the people were friendly and curious, it was awesome. Now I almost don't listen to western media anymore because of it.😅
all those things can be true at once. Are you simple minded? A place can be clean, people appear friendly (because you don't speak their language), and organized. It can also be authoritarian and doing bad things against other nations. Those things are not mutually exclusive...well maybe in a child's mind they are.
It would be a miracle if India come close to China’s infrastructure. As a foreigner, I have visited both countries. Mindset of Indian, work ethic, integrity, civic sense, corruption, etc
Europe developed because they were ruled by Kings for 100s of years, but now Europe is degrading after democracy. India directly got democracy after British rule, hence we never got a chance for proper development. Across the world, the vast majority of bigger nations that transformed from Colonies to democracies have such poor infrastructure. There is only one solution to this problem, India should be ruled by a dictator.
You have to remember China is not a democracy. They used to just put a cross on buildings in old Shanghai and the next day this was demolished. There was no worry about the people. India is democratic and thus has to abide by the people's wishes. So, changing the look of any city in India is difficult. On top of this we were run for over 75 years by a Government that did not care for the people and just let the country continue. They did not instill any passion in the people about their country. So when the people have no pride they live by this.
@@learningmaster8060 Hey, bro. If you believe western propagandas on 'Democracy' or 'Dictatorship', then you will never find the way out. Because that's total wrong. There is no democracy in the west at all. And meanwhile, what works in China is not dictatorship at all. The system in the west, is a company-like structure. The stockholders hide deeply at the back, put several statues in the front, to manipulate and cheat on the crowd. What a shame! Also, China is not like the west propaganda only have one party, actually, Chine has 8 more parties out of the CPC, let's not count the Taiwanese parties as Chinese parties, which basically protect only U.S. interests. @@learningmaster8060 North Korea is ruled by a dictator, it is not better. South Korea and Taiwan are the only major economies (Hong Kong and Singapore are too small) that transformed into advanced economies after ww2, what they had in common is one party rule and state capitalism, combined with meritocracy, Taiwan and South Korea both taken a hit after transforming into liberal democracy under US pressure, their growth almost immediately flattened. So I think one party rule and statement capitalism are the keys for development. For leaders to perform, meritocracy I think is the key. All the large corporations do it, why not government? Elections depends on money and media image, performance was never even a factor.
My first visit to India was in 1960 I travelled by land route from Madras(now Chennai) to Pakistan and beyond. The condition was shocking even from a Singaporean like me! Then about ten years ago, I visited Mumbai albeit for a day, what I seen in the streets of this so called modern city by Indian standard, except for the most affluent part of the city, the rest were reminiscent to what I remembered seeing the first time I went there, the street was full of cows, telephone and power cables jumbled up in bundles hanging precariously on poles and houses, beggars and homeless lined the streets, cow dungs rubbish strewn across everywhere! I thought to myself, India has not changed much. India needs a good government and changed attitude !

Every City Can be Nice in India but people lack civic sense. People freely urinate in open, Throw Trash in Water Bodies, Defacate on Railway Lines, Throws the Waste Unsegregated. This is a HUGE Problem in India. People blame Population but Hong Kong and Singapore have one of the highest population density in the world and yet those cities are one of the cleanest. People blame poverty but Poverty doesnt give you license to Litter around and Defacate in Open. The Attitude of Indian People must change. This civic sense should be taught in schools from a young age. Trash Segregation should be taught in Environmental Studies Subject
Yes, all these are true, you and I are the same product of our society that lacks civic sense but why has nobody taught us about civic sense nobody has shown us our parents, teachers or government. Poverty and corrupt governments are the two biggest problems. Poverty restricts people from getting the right education and knowledge and our government or you can say these politicians do not care about poverty they want power in every election and pocket large sums of money....even we don't have a proper waste management system is...
I agree about lack of civic sense, however these same people observe the civic laws with utmost sincerity when they go to other countries. It's the combination of availability of infrastructure, awareness of cleanliness and threat of fines/action that allow people to follow the rules. For example, in Dubai, there are dustbins every few meters. These dustbins themselves are regularly emptied and maintained in a clean way. With such a level of availability, it becomes very easy to ensure that any rubbish is always discarded in dustbins. Plus there's the constant threat of heavy fines if someone is found littering or spitting in public places.
I started my career in Delhi thinking there is hope when I was 22. Today I am 44, and let me tell you things have gone from bad to worse. There is zero accountability with the thousands of ppl in state and central govt, and life here is horrible. The story is same in each and every city of India. This you realise when you see how the rest of the world lives.
I guess that is difference between India and China, Chinese officials have KPIs (Key Performance Indicators), their promotion and demotion depends on their performance, that is the meritocracy they talked about. That is why they built infrastructures, because it is good for economy and GDP is a very large weighting in their KPIs. KPIs are used in 100% of the large enterprises, and KPIs in government are not invented by the Chinese, they learned that from Singapore government. Meritocracy however is never applied to governments in liberal democratic countries.

Thirty year ago I came to the US to study economics. At the time, there was a Chinese professor who achieved very high academic status in MIT's Sloan Business School. His name is Yasheng Huang. His research focus is on the comparative development models of China and India. At the time, I admired him a lot and read many of his papers. One of his very consistent thesis is that China is wasting money on infrastructure and he predicted that India would do a lot better economically since it did not waste money on infrastructure. Now thirty years have passed, I am glad that China's government did not listen to him. I am afraid he may have misled many Indian politicians since he was an accomplished academia in MIT with many joint research with Indian scholars. Now when I think about it, if he did not shit on China's development model, he probably wouldn't have reached his level of esteem and status in the West.

i am from a small city in Indonesia, and we have mayor that is being elected every 5 years. So, these mayors can secure a position for 2 terms, they must do their best to get re elected again. Our current mayor have built proper drainage and sewage system accross the high streets and enlarge the pavement for pedestrians, they also built kilometres of beach promenades, built parks and they rebuilt the old wet market area to be a modern building with much cleaner system and more parks. They also reharded many small alleys with proper asphalt or bricks. When they renovate these stuff, the city becomes much cleaner automatically. People tend to keep the city cleaner and it becomes more organised easily, despite our nongrid system, because it's an old city. The mayors did many things, one of the breaktrough to alleviate traffic was to build the 4 lanes orbital road. it is super efficient.

Very nice. The master planning used to be there till 1960..but then it got lost. With india being the most populous nation, this is the need of the hour.
This video really opened my eyes to why India’s infrastructure is struggling. The comparison with international cities like Tokyo and the insights into the deep-rooted issues in Bangalore, Mumbai, and Delhi were spot on. The lack of civic sense, rapid unplanned growth, and restrictive land use policies are major hurdles. The example of Tokyo's zoning laws and mixed-use buildings was fascinating. It's clear that our cities need better planning and regulations to manage growth effectively. The traffic problems in Bangalore and the challenges in expanding Mumbai vertically due to restrictive FSI rules were especially illuminating. The piece on Mumbai's outdated drainage system and the recurring flooding issue highlighted the urgency for infrastructural upgrades. Delhi's water crisis and pollution problems further emphasize the need for sustainable urban management. Overall, this video provided a comprehensive look into the complexities of urban planning and the unique challenges faced by Indian cities. Great job!
It is so interesting that you'll see a youtuber from a developed country like the US and UK complain about how every road in the city is just planned for cars. How smaller roads and closely packed spaces are much better.

Modernization demands 5. Environmental Stress Every planning has its own advantages and its disadvantages, but one of the greatest challenges we face would be the planning for future. Despite being one of the few nations who has people in powerful places across the World, we still are developing to become the better version of ourselves, Being a Urban planner trying to do the better for the city and focusing on how the future and predicting it is solely a very difficult task, We are trying our best to do a lot to this world, we will get there eventually until then we need to keep educating, sharing the knowledge of what we learnt and how we can transform the Country, Maybe even the world. Now this is all my take on the topic, I might be half right, could be completely wrong on some things, but the content that was put in the video was amazing and to the point and made sure that a layman could understand what was being said. In varanasi also they gave free dustbins to everyone. 1 for dry waste and 2nd for wet waste. Almost all of them used those dustbins to plant some plants and throw wastes on the road. Even tho the garbage dump truck or van comes daily.
Varanasi is one of the dirtiest cities I have visited. I'm even more shocked after learning its PM Modi constituency. On what basis do people vote for him.

Problem of india is that india didnt deserve democracy,we are unruly stratified indisciplined corruptive chaotic society, and we need someone oppressive and strict to rule over us ..we are bad at deciding whats good for us,thats why under mugol rule india prospered and British ruled india easily by pitting one against others. People often blame a lack of funds or corruption, but the real issue is the absence of proper urban planning. India has never had a comprehensive master plan for its cities. What passes as “planning” is merely the division of farmland into clusters with no real strategy. There’s no proper building code or logical framework-just poorly thought-out, ineffective plans.
Yes I agree with you bro india will never change, we Indians are not taking any responsibility to take care of our city throwing waste here and there we need and simply blaming the government for not cleaning the city. Every Indian is the same. Even the educated or uneducated all are the same as like foreigners statement "filthiness is running in their blood"😢😢
Japan is better than western countries, but china and russia no, india is already better for living than russia and china. Russia and China have the same problems but the citizens can't complain because the government doesn't allow them to.
Just a suggestion. It'd be really helpful to provide English subtitles too. As a non Indian, I find it rather exhausting to understand such thick Indian accent. No judging here, just stating my situation.

Well said at the end, its also about the severely lacking civic sense of indian citizens who never care about the cleanliness of public spaces. I guess lack of education and social moral values is one of the major reasons why people act like that.
Coz of indian diversity just like Myamar More diversity in ethnics groups and languages, More difficulties to unite and more chance to disintegrate and differ and deray

As a non-Indian who has only visited this beautiful country, this video is absolutely amazing! I can't wait to go back soon to India, it's developing at a very rapid pace, many highways are under construction, the road conditions are improving, and I'd love to try the new Vande Bharat sleeper trains. I won't even talk about the telecom infrastructure, even in villages I somehow got 5G signal. That being said, the city planning leaves a lot to be desired - even though the densest cities are in India, the walkability isn't great, so I had to resort to Ubers or rickshaws a lot of times just to get to a store only 1 km away. I found it strange but your video explained the issues clearly, and it seems a combination of rapid development, urbanisation and legal red tape. Just one complaint, the music is way too loud, and it was sometimes hard to hear what you were saying.
Saying this very responsibility that India can never be like other countries offcourse we will have some of the biggest companies in the world and richest people in the world.
I dont understand why none of the videos on indian cities use hyderabad in any of their case studies or examples. There are definitely a lot of things to learn from hyderabad too.
Hyderabad is a US wannabe car-centric dystopia. The metro is half-baked and the pedestrian experience is horrible, even in rich neighbourhoods. The walking trail around Durgam Cheruvu is the only nice urban planning I've seen in Hyderabad, but even 6+ years from when it was started it still hadn't been finished when I last visited. Also like Mumbai, it lacks proper drainage and gets flooded during rains.

I remember my economic teacher saying. China also has corruption there building also crumble but a dictatorship is good in something and is punishing. And i was like why that make so much sense here the one's who are supposed to take action against the corruption are the one's who are involved in it . Yeah with our lifestyle and different style we could just create our own designs just making our own living a sight to see. But all that will happens when our mindsets changes at all levels and there are many more steps to take but this is the very first step we should try to achieve.
Not necessarily. It’s a misconception that larger population is the problem. Human Resource is always a blessing provided it is properly utilised. Because cities in our country are managed like this, we have this pre conceived notion.
Chandigarh is also a good example of how Indian cities could be planned. It has markets in every sector, grid pattern roads, no residential house has more than 3 floors. Everyone follows traffic rules because there are speed cams and other cameras installed which captures you and challan is issued instantly if you jump zebra crossings, if you over speed or jump lights. Separate cycle tracks are there and proper infrastructure for hiring e bikes. Good public and private infrastructure. Now they have an IT park as well in both Chandigarh and Mohali so it has got everything

China is discipline & local municipalities r not corrupt, China has municipality election every 4 years.
India can't look like anything like those cities. Our PPL sucks. Too much corruption.
When politicians eat up a majority chunk of the infrastructure project budget, then you don't have enough money to build quality infra, as a result, we have sub-par infrastructure.
India: making Infra by counts

Not true. I'm not saying there's no corruption in India, I'm saying the effect of corruption on India's situation is minimal. Even if there was no corruption in India, it would have look nearly the same becuase we are too many people with too little money. It's that simple.

Good. The West and many other places are going nowhere. Fast.
all those things can be true at once.

As a Chinese citizen living in Canada now, I would say that our excellent infrastructure has a lot to do with our political system and economic development strategy where local governments borrow a lot of money to accelerate infrastructure projects so that they could further boost the economy. And that’s why China has one of the best infrastructure systems in the world although its downsides like local governments debt crisis is appearing now. i am from a small city in Indonesia, and we have mayor that is being elected every 5 years.

Use AI to allocate budget.
Make bidding transparent.

Great job!
forget those cities if we need to compete with other cities then make new cities in each states

Public transportation is really important for a city as it lowers traffic. The problem is that in some cities buses look cheap and downgraded. So, only lower class ppl use them while middle class and upper middle class use vehicles leading to more air pollution as well as traffic congestion.

In our Howrah Municipal Corporation of West Bengal, last elections were held in 2013. It's term expired in 2018. So it's next term was supposed to be held in 2018 but it wasn't in last 6 years. So just imagine - a term last for 5 years but whole 6 years void of elections. As a civilian, we need to have a conscious mindset on how we pollute the place we live in, The CHANGE starts from us.
This is a beautifully explained video about the crisis of the Major cities and why their infrastructure seems to be questioned, complained and made fun of. The population in India doesn't really help too, irrespective of how much people are educated, we also need to practice what we have been thought of.
Sure Chandigarh is one of the planned cities and is beautiful in its own way, but few of the disadvantages would be
1. Scale and accessibility
2. Social Inclusion
3. Climate consideration
4. Modernization demands
5. Environmental Stress
Every planning has its own advantages and its disadvantages, but one of the greatest challenges we face would be the planning for future. Despite being one of the few nations who has people in powerful places across the World, we still are developing to become the better version of ourselves,
Being a Urban planner trying to do the better for the city and focusing on how the future and predicting it is solely a very difficult task, We are trying our best to do a lot to this world, we will get there eventually until then we need to keep educating, sharing the knowledge of what we learnt and how we can transform the Country, Maybe even the world.
Now this is all my take on the topic, I might be half right, could be completely wrong on some things, but the content that was put in the video was amazing and to the point and made sure that a layman could understand what was being said.

People often blame a lack of funds or corruption, but the real issue is the absence of proper urban planning. India has never had a comprehensive master plan for its cities. You happy, I'm more happy than you
India got independence just 75 years before , people taxes have been eaten by politicians & corruption everywhere.
China is 2 years younger than india
Well said at the end, its also about the severely lacking civic sense of indian citizens who never care about the cleanliness of public spaces. I guess lack of education and social moral values is one of the major reasons why people act like that.
Coz of indian diversity just like Myamar
More diversity in ethnics groups and languages, More difficulties to unite and more chance to disintegrate and differ and deray
Very well made, no bias or bs, right to the point!
thanks for helping us understand more about our country
In Bengaluru intitaly created areas such as basavanagudi, Malleswaram, jayanagar were are in the form of grids but later on other areas were randomly without any plan it was converted into living place
Blaming people is not gonna solve the problem. Because people lack civic sense but they are not aware of that. The government should spend money on spreading public awareness about these things. Im pretty sure it will work.
No amount of public awareness can replace quality education from a young age. Our whole system is fucked.
how are people responsible for shoddy infra and poorly planned roads?
@@counterpoint9260cause they build their houses till the road level despite it being illegal, they open up small shops anywhere on the road.
Just one complaint, the music is way too loud, and it was sometimes hard to hear what you were saying.
its crazy how most of us viewers know more than actual lawmakers. I bet that a random viewer will perform better than politicians.
Not quite
It's easy to comment when one is not in the position of power.
@@parvadhami980Oh the one who is in position of power literally became businessmen thesedays
Maharashtra,Karnataka, tamil nadu and west Bengal have to shift their capitals and build new green field capitals
Saying this very responsibility that India can never be like other countries offcourse we will have some of the biggest companies in the world and richest people in the world.
I dont understand why none of the videos on indian cities use hyderabad in any of their case studies or examples. There are definitely a lot of things to learn from hyderabad too.
Hyderabad is a slum outside cyberabad
@@Sathish_12 I agree some areas are, but same is the case with other big cities like Bombay and delhi
Hyderabad fell behind in the 90s and now is the same as kolkata
@@jinxed4lyf763You havent visited hyderabad. I agree, some places are dirty. But lets hope for good
Hyderabad is a US wannabe car-centric dystopia.
This video had the best content when compared to other similar videos from Mohak and others. Perfect !!
1. Government need to do something about population control
2. People need to be deciplind
3. People need to have basic education
4.people thinks now days education is totally useless that's why most children not educated
but proud indians dont care about these stuffs they are just proud
What a cinematic experience the video was, crazy!
Corruption. The curse of the Indian mindset. Due to centuries of foreign rule.
We just need scapegoat..
The scapegoat is Politicans and Corruption.
but We the People are equally part of it. but no ones likes to be blamed, so we collectively never blame ourselves as well.
India is just acting as a growing superpower
The brutal consequences India faces for being the no.1 most populated country
Not necessarily. It’s a misconception that larger population is the problem. Human Resource is always a blessing provided it is properly utilised. Because cities in our country are managed like this, we have this pre conceived notion.
@@gshen231 it ain't being utilised and teenagers are becoming chapris
@@auritrocalebbaroi91 I agree with you on the issues plaguing But just wanted to say that big population itself is not problem
India could've used a One Child Policy. Population is good but a burden if they're not fed, educated, civilized

Chandigarh ranks top 10 polluted among major cities.
Well mind you. Chandigarh city is planned by the British.
