If underworld is out of bollywood (after 2001), then
      1. Why do we still see pro islam and anti hindu movies?
      2. Why do we still see pro pakistani and anti indian movies?
      3. Why hasn't bollywood made a single movie in hindi language?
      4. Why does bollywood still call urdu language as hindi language?
      5. If you say bollywood makes movies common amongst people, how many indians use words "raqeeb", "shafakhana", "kaifiyat"? Just because people can understand a language, every language can't be called hindi.
Bollywood was, is and will be an urdu film industry until muslims vacate india because bollywood is run by islamists

indians don't understand that movies can both be fun and make sense. It is the understanding that if you want to have fun watching a movie you have to completely detach yourself from reality. In mass movies there is absolutely no effort shown in writing a compelling story either, it is always the most generic good guy - bad guy story without any motivation for either.

The best example I can think of is 'Laapata Ladies'. What a f***ing awesome movie! It didn't have flashy costumes, or out-of-salon-looking actors, or item numbers or songs with expensive sets, or steamy scenes or forced cheap humor/comedy. Nope. None of that bullshit. What it did have was a no-nonsense fresh story which was grounded in reality, great characters, talented actors, and a simple vision to deliver it with wholesome wit. That's what bollywood needs right now. A movie with a good story and decent production quality.

Ah you are spot on. People often make the argument, "kon jayega dekhne, theatre mein?" Are jayenge bhai saare jayenge, marketing karo film ki achi tarah.
They made that movie on a shoe string budget of Rs 4 crore. If they spent 20 crores on marketing that movie and made sure the film was available on more screens. This movie would have easily made 200+crs. You need to take risks, that is what is missing from Bollywood. They are already making flops after flops, what is point of not taking a chance? They have got nothing to lose really! They have already lost hundred of crores giving money to star actors without any return on their investment.
      Go take a risk.
Btw, there is another problem with these small films that nobody talks about. Their distribution is not pushed by the distribution mafia, reliance and there is another company I forgot the name, these two companies are responsible for making a film come near you. So, if a film is not available in a theatre near you. It likely is because of reliance and other distribution companies not doing so.

    • @ktkthakre
      @ktkthakre 4 месяца назад +6

Exactly... Bollywood needs to take a risk. I remember watching Uri. And again, this movie was no-nonsense, straight to point and action packed. I didn't see a single item song or romantic song with an expensive set piece. They knew what the story meant, they shot it, they kept it grounded to the source material, and boom, a f***ing hit. And for the life of me I Do Not understand why they are remaking songs?? Like... What the fuck happened to song writers? Why isn't bollywood encouraging Indie songs in films? Last I checked, Spotify has a plethora of amazing and heart warming Indie songs and Artists. Why aren't they given a chance to prove? They can soooo easily stick these songs in appropriate moments in a film, no need to spend shit ton of money on expensive ser pieces and item numbers... Feelings matter! But no, they keep the traditional approach of bringing half naked women dancing to item songs and doing romantic scenes that DON'T contribute to the story.
I don't think I've watched a Bollywood movie in a while, reasons described above obviously 🤣

The problem is big producers are refusing to invest in writers.
What is stoping Karan and YRF to hire good writers? Noone.
Yet they will rather push all burdens on actors thinking only their face is enough to do it. Resulting in inflated ego of actors too.
Also I don't get why they don't do what Hollywood does. But rights of novels. So many movies are just novels. HP, LotR, MCU, DC, Shadow and Bones, Maze Runner, Hunger Games, Twilight and so many more are best selling novels.
But then again ,obviously Bollywood producers don't want to double pay to author then script writers.
Then comes the issue of credits. Where are recognition of other professionals outside actors? No care is shown to them.

Achina, very crisp analysis. Some pointers: 1. For Indians, going to a movie theater is often the only channel of escaping the drudgery of life plus the a/c comfort - so quality of the movie is often secondary, 2. The industry had rich content in the 40s and 50s, supplemented by great music in the 60s. All that slowly died down, plus the advent of television meant that older folks got glued to TV and its serials. And that leaves the movie industry to cater to its primary audiences of teenagers and the sub-35 population.
    2. The economics - this is a heavily manipulated number where movie producers try to reduce their tax liabilities and, when story lines are weak, they try to offset it with big name stars. And when those movie stars see a weak story line, they prefer cash to sales-driven compensation. Anyway, my two cents.

    Indian cinema problem is multifold.
Some of the big changes that bollywood needs to do :
    1. even if its remake, it needs some changes not an exact carbon copy.
    2. for people to be pulled to theatres, you definitely need star power, as against OTT where people watch it because there is no extra payment or effort needed to see it (if they like start, they will continue, else they can skip it without any penalty). Hence, movies need bifurcation, targeted for OTT (which can have lower budget and thus more focus on story, which many bollywood stars have worked in too) or theatre pull (balance of star cast and balance of story).
    3. ticket cost per person in theatres in metropolitan cities like Mumbai, bangalore are insane. Charging 500 + for a regular seat is not justified for same old story and action movie. This high paying public now demands more (and they see movie only if others in peer circle have given good reviews). Also family would not go for movie as spending 1200 - 1500 (2 adults, 2 kids) would not make sense for same old storyline and senseless actions .
    4. Actors are unnecessarily hyping up fees. Contracts now need to come as performance model rather than majority upfront. Even rajnikant had to reimburse producers when his movie flopped. Bollywood actors dont do that. And bollywood actors are much well off with brand deals, so movie earnings are not a source of survival income for them. So Actor fees have become more of an ego boost. And producers need to take a stand here, dont give such high fees for poor performers.

There are more aspects to it. Apart from actors, I wonder how some of the directors get roped in for big budget movies when they have barely showcased any directional promise. Just couple of examples Remo Dsouzka, Farhad Samji.
Money laundering. Looking at Jacky Bhagnani recent movies I cannot think of any other logical reason for it. All his recent movies are flops and a normal human being won’t even be able to sleep after facing losses like that.
It would have been interesting if you would have explored or touch based on some of these as well.

The reason why people aren’t going to theatres of indian movies is cuz most of them don’t provide any theatre experience. Few like kalki or srk movies like pathaan or jawan did provide and so they were hits. But comedy movies or akshay kumar movies don’t provide any theatre exclusive experience cuz I can watch those movies online or on tv as well and I won’t miss a theatre experience.
This is also reason why hollywood movies are still doing very well for eg seeing avatar in theatre will give you a different experience than watching it online. But watching movies like dunki online instead of theatre won’t make much of a difference and rather take more money to watch in theatre

Nah, have you seen any of the Malayalam movies released this year? Do you think any of them provided any theatre experience? or are they not getting released on OTT? When you release a movie and if the movie is getting a good talk, people will watch it. In south, we don't really have any of this OTT problem for either for the big budget or small budget movies. People are still interested to watch movies in Theatre. That comes with providing good movies and original movies. Most of the Bollywood movies right now are just remakes. Also their output is also a degraded output compared to the original. Except for 12th fail, lapata ladies, Kill and couple other movies, I have not seen a good bollywood movie in recent time.
Instead of creating movies on those rich people problems, if they create movies that people can relate to and connect with like 12th fail, people will jump to theatres more and more without thinking twice.

Thanks for raising this topic, Achina.
Also, let's not feel sorry for the producers, okay! They did this. They deserve this, they deserve all the losses. They prioritized earning quick buck over reading the fucking script. They think that if you just add a star actor to a shit script, bought for only 12 lakhs -15 lakhs or even lower, that is a recipe for success.
Bro, come on. Use your brain. We don't live in a bubble anymore, we, the audience, require good script and good vfx (if there are any). You look at the budgets of these movies, they are comparable to some mid-end Hollywood movies. They are paying the actors even before the film has released, meaning the actors have no skin in the game. "I got my money. Now, fuck off" attitude of the star actors has led to this.
They made a lot of buzz and hoopla for the Ranbir kapoor film 2 years ago, Brahmastra, that movie doesn't deserve to earn even 100 cr. The dialogues are fucking cringe and read as if written by a 6 year old. There was so much potential to that movie but they ruined it. They paid most of the budget money to actors, and did the VFX with the rest of the leftover money besides the already set aside marketing budget.
I hope Bollywood dies if they still continue to do this and from its ashes, indie creators make box office shattering movies with new actors who know how to act, not nepotist talentless idiots.
Only nepotist good actors in Bollywood today are Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt and Shahid Kapoor. Nobody cares if you are nepotist actor, atleast use your privilege to get good at acting, you have all the resources in the world to get good but no, you are going to take audience for granted. Alia also started out as a typical nepotist actor but she worked hard. Her performance in Raazi is stellar and makes you feel like you are Sehmat in the movie, you feel her struggle. When was the last time another Bollywood movie made us feel like that?

I think the entire video went over your head. Kalki is one of the best movies of the year and its something that gets me excited for the new height indian movies can reach, especially south indian films. Yet movies like Kalki are a huuuge risk, even making a respectable profit is deemed a failure cause when soo much money is invested the investors are expecting a Avenger level return. Kalki's budget was 600 crore and usually for such a blockbuster usually you can add another 100% of the budget as marketing budget(rule of thumb). So the movie HAS to make at least 1200 crore to break even. Considering all of that, you think spending 10%(rounding) of the entire budget on ONE GUY is a good idea??? You don't see the inherent risk?? I want kalki to spawn a series, it was soooo good!! But I worry if the finances will allow it :( ..... What I think the industry needs now is Actors doing profit splits instead of fees. Bet on yourself and pick good projects!

Pehle producers directly actors se baat kr liya krte the, regarding fees and demands, not any more.
Ab producers have to go through Actors' Managers first. Ye managers actor ko convince krte to ask for huge amounts on basis of their influence. Dusri taraf producers se negotiate krte for huge fees. Or iske beech apna cut leke jaate.

Writers NOT getting paid is by far the BIGGEST Issue behind Bollywood movies flopping. The Audience no longer appreciates Actors. The Audience Appreciates a Good Story Delivered well.
But Bollywood is still obsessed with Actors and their "Star Power", hoping Big Names will mean Big Gains.
What's even more concerning is Actors who CAN'T Act but still command Big Bucks, and NEPOTISM, which forces Audiences to watch Blocks of Wood in lead roles.
Ever since the Pandemic, Indian Audience has learned there's AMPLE Content in Foreign Languages and even South Indian Languages. SO MUCH CONTENT Ready to be discovered and watched.
Indians have SIGNIFICANTLY expanded their Horizons and no longer are Hindi Films at the top.
Bollywood MUST Wake Up and Grow Up. No longer will Big Names automatically translate to a Guranteed Hit. But a Story with a Heart, Excellent Consistency, Pace, and Powerful narration with Fresh Actors WHO CAN ACT, will do wonders. Some examples: #Shrikant, #LaapataaLadies, and MANY More.

If the stars are really good enough, they should start taking profit shares instead of such huge numbers. If your movie is a disaster you win nothing, but if its a box office hit, you earn everything. From what I understand Shah Rukh Khan is already doing this, probably because his own production does several of his movies. But it should happen with more stars, even other industry stars like Rajinikanth, Vijay, Ajith, Allu Arjun, Mahesh Babu, Prabhas, all should shift to such a model. It will force them to choose their scripts more deliberately as well. I mean look at Akshay Kumar, what even is he thinking by starring in such bad movies, and why is he charging half of the budget if that can be spent elsewhere in paying good script writers, set design, action, vfx etc.

Quick new idea for next video topic … make how westerners have rebranded Indian invention as their own 😊
like example: Indian yoga is rebranded as Christian yoga, chai tea latte, leaf plate, golden milk of Starbucks ( haldi milk )…etc

Underworld is still funding bollywood movies, not directly in cash but via different medium. The corporate booking section is actually how underworld funded NGOs or pvt company's money are converted into white money. That's kind of money laundering.

A movie is a story enacted out by actors. So the story comes first, then actors. Bollywood will soon realise this.

Can you explain why do OTT platforms pay as much as half the production budget to acquire streaming rights for a movie? Do they really recover the money even from a bad movie???

tbh i feel happy that bollywood is dying gradually and i want it personally, caz it allows room for south filmmakers who genuinely write good scripts and very importantly give credit to every person(those who r south indians or who watch majority of south than bollywood and know the market will understand this).....the reason south industry was blind folded to north indians is that the media always portraied bollywood as the only film industry with PR, nepotism,etc... at the end of the day it is the content that matters, stardom won"t work until unless u produce good content rather than films like pathan, which is a pure stardom film with zero content which is fit to grab money..........whether like it or not it is a fact.....

Main issues it influence of politics in Bollywood , with the rise of BJP we saw a fall in Bollywood films , there was a lack creativity in the films due to the fear of public backlash ,on top of that bjp have put their own members on the film board .So now the only movies you get are the same recycled indian sports movie or some made up Pakistan v India situation or something religiously tied to please the religious crowd (ironically it usually ends up backfiring ) .Bollwood has lost its old charm ,the only person who has retained it is Aamir Khan.

Also make a video if a north Indian is born in any part of south states, or moved there for employment, does he/she have decency and responsibility of learning local language? If no, also explain why should children of south parents make an effort of learning migrant’s language to comfort children of hindi parents.
