seriously, dont be so cocky and a smartass, you may look like a total fool like in this video. the card takes a 4x slot that is true. its your fault you didnt check your mainbaords manual. it seems that your secondary 16x slot shares bandwidth with a lot more other devices, usually nvmes and sata controller, so your avermedia didnt even got 4x bandwidth. no false advertising anywhere, just people making reviews with dangerous half knowlege.
*The "×4 PCIe bandwidth problem" (with the AverMedia) is NOT the card* (so it's not "false advertising") - there literally *can't* be* a difference in ×16 performance since (if you look at the edge of the card) you can see that *it only has 4 lanes' worth of PCIe* fingers. IOW, the difference you encountered was because you moved it to the *GPU slot* where the PCIe lanes come *directly off the CPU* as opposed to through the chipset. It was still only using 4 lanes (since that's all it physically has). Some of the older versions of various X570 BIOS had some problems with chipset PCIe steering, so you could try updating your BIOS. (Also, make sure your chipset's cooling fan has a decent air supply. When X570 doesn't have good enough case ventilation, it can run hot and throttle its throughput bandwidth).
@@andrewryder3075 I had the latest BIOS when I tested, and I even opened the case for testing purposes. I use the Elgato 4K 60 Pro to this day without the same problem. It's a common issue with people with other motherboards as well. But you can buy it if you want.
@@BadIntentStreamTechReviews I'm a bit late to the party, but it seems like your motherboard in the video has a key-e wi-fi module preinstalled. This could be the cause of your bandwidth issue. If possible, try disabling the module in the BIOS.
I just ordered the AverMedia Live 4K and it's "an upgrade" from the Elgato HD60 Pro PCIe card. Not many folks realize that one topic that many reviewers cover is the color range available. For the hardcore retro streamers/youtubers it does the Live 4K also has uncompressed FULL 4:4:4 RGB while "none" of the products on the Elgato side offer it. The only support 4:2:2 and the HD60 Pro only supports 4:2:0 even worse....so the verdict is still the same... go with the AverMedia Live 4K.
What I love about your videos is that you actually give your opinion of what you think is best choice. All the others I see is always title "Which is better?" And by the end they're basically like "you decide what is better"
Great video. I really appreciate that you are not afraid to criticize. I originally purchased the 4K 60S+ because pretty much everyone gives it glowing reviews on YT (because they got it for free and are scared to say anything bad). I saw all the issues that you mentioned. Most reviews are so misleading
Thank you. Yes, the more I watch other people's reviews (even in different niches), the more I realize a lot of RUclipsrs just want to sell you stuff and keep their brand partnerships. In the future, I plan to make a series talking about how widespread this is and why I think it's such a problem.
The bandwidth limitations is due to your motherboard favoring the top slot when communicating over the pcie bus. Unless your motherboard advertises that it can do the full pcie gen 4 speeds from both at the same time then when the top slot is using gen 4 the bottom will be limited to gen 3 or 2 depending on the motherboard. Which is why putting the capture card in the top slot made it perform better
Awesome video! Have the 4K60s+ and wow what a garbage product. I'm actually amazed that elgato have not recalled that product. I get the exact same problem with stutters and stuff, also elgato have removed reviews on their website on the product. They also delete negative comments on youtube regarding the problems of this card. I will avoid elgato in the future. I have now order the aver media. Thank you so much for this video.
we have similar pcs i have the 5700xt red devil and have flickering issues when I watch back my recordings really wish I knew about these issues when I did my research. all of the problems with these cards are buried on youtube. u got a sub from me :)
Yep, people don't want to bring it up. Honestly this video was originally just gonna be a review of the 4K60 S+. Had issues, got the 4K60 Pro. No HDR with my graphics card so I got the GC573, then bandwidth issues. So I decided to compare them all together and talk about all the problems in one video.
I appreciate your thorough explanation of the pros and cons of each card, it's tough to find this level of detail in a review. I have an Nvidia GPU but will likely choose the AVerMedia based on your commentary. I'd like to get a 6800 XT once they are easier to find. Thanks for taking the time to put this together
I have the 4k60s+. I get a lot of stutter on the 4k utility. Sometimes I get those weird video images you posted. Elgato changed it twice already and the problem is the same. I turned my pc upside down by clicking every setting possible thinking it was my pc. I seen every video on RUclips on stuttering and nothing works. I think it's the capture card that sucks ass.
NDI link is not syncing my Elgato webcam properly with my audio , So either I put my webcam on the Gaming PC with its audio to sync. Or I buy a Capture card. The whole purpose of this for me is to save my FPS on the gaming system. Hopefully the Elgato FaceCam won't cause me to drop frames. But at 1080p 60hz.. I wouldn't doubt that it would. I will test it tonight.. After reviewing this video he clearly saves the best for last. Not only is it a better product the GC 573 its also better priced. This video alone has let me determine the GC 573 is the card for me. Thanks for the review!
So, I recently upgraded from the HD60 Pro to the 4k60 Pro and I can't record in ANYTHING other than 1080p. 1440 and 2160 both just shows me a green screen. Either solid or flickering. I have a Nvidia 1660 Super and Ryzen 7 3800x. So I should be able to capture 2160p. Guess I'll give the avermedia a shot.
Hey great video man.. I was looking at your board and I could be mistaken but it looks like you don't have PCIe x4 slots.. It looks like you have 2 PCIe x16 and 3 PCIe x1s. Could that be the reason you were having an issue? With the aver media capture. You convinced me to check out the Aver media card btw, you saved me some money.. lol thanks
I was already leaning towards Avermedia seeing long list of features, plus I needed a card which captures 1440p60/144 and Avermedia Live Gamer 4K shines there! A future worthy card too in case I switch to 4K Gaming. Too bad Elgate 4K60 Pro doesn't capture 1440p at all.. majority of gamers game at 1440p. Thanks for explaining, man, Avermedia it is!
Thank you pal! Another great review/comparison which helped me making a good decision! This is the second time you helped me decide (Elgato Key Light comparison was the first), so kudos to you!
Can you re-review these since its 2021, with all of their available updates to see what problems have been fixed? As for the bandwidth issue, the throughput is motherboard specific.
Maybe, I wanted to review these with a PS5 or Series X the first time around, but they're still out of stock a year later. But when they're in stock I might compare them again. Yeah, the problem with the bandwidth of the GC573 is (to my knowledge) they don't give you any specific numbers to target so the only way you can find out if there's an issue is to buy one to run the bandwidth test. The 4K60 Pro never had that issue and if I knew it was gonna be such a headache for so many people I probably would have recommended everyone with an NVIDIA card just get the Elgato 4K60 Pro to avoid the hassle.
The info is great, but work on that pause after ever word or two, and you got yourself some Stew. Everything else was spot on brother. Once you work that out, I can see going large my friend. Believe me I have been trying to get all the answers in one sitting before I make up my mind on which one to buy. Avermedia is where I'm going.
Evermedia is an encoding method that draws and uses PC resources, and Elgato knows that its own hardware encoding is supported. I'd like to know if you feel this part a lot in actual use.
You're welcome! Thanks, yeah I stream at www.twitch.tv/badintentx. I haven't been streaming as much lately (to focus on this channel), but I usually play Tekken 7.
Thank you for pointing out the effects with an AMD or Nvidia graphics card. I was going for the Elgato Mk2 but since I have got a Vega56 I ordered the AverMedia. 👌
I've read that you can record >60 FPS with the Elgato 4K60Pro in other applications such as OBS, just not with the 4K Capture Utility. I think it'd lock you out of recording in HDR since only the capture utility has that feature. Have you been able to try that? And did Elgato ever get back to you on the support ticket?
I'll check on trying to go over 60 FPS in a day or two (I have to finish a project before I open my PC again). As for the support ticket, they responded and confirmed HDR definitely doesn't work with AMD cards including the 5700 and 5700XT. Not sure if they support the new 6000 series cards that just came out though.
Great video! You helped me pick the card. I think you might be confusing the small pcie for 4x when they generally are only 1x. The larger ones are the 16x 8x 4x and they can change based on your motherboard and could gen.
Thanks for watching, glad to help. True, I should have clarified. My motherboard has two x16 slots but only the top one actually gets x16 speed. The second one fits x16 devices but limits them to x4 speed. So putting the GC573 in the second slot limits its bandwidth.
From what I read, that device caps out at 4K 30 FPS capture so I didn't think it was viable. If I had a lightning port, I would review the Live Gamer Bolt though.
Great video. We need one for my son videogame channel, mainly ps5 and switch. Wich one you recommend? Something we can use for some years. Greetings from Switzerland 🇨🇭
I only have a PCIe 2.0 x4 slot. Does the Elgato 4k60 pro work with this slot or does it have the same issues as the avermedia 4k? I know I could swap the slots with my graphics card but I would assume that the GPU would get bottlenecked instead then.
No, only the AVerMedia has that issue. I didn't even know that bandwidth problem was a thing until I got that card. So yeah, Elgato 4K60 Pro works with x4 no issues.
Hi there, Thanks for the incredible video. I have a question 🙋🏻. I have a Gigabyte AX370-gaming 5 motherboard. Can I seat the Avermedia GC573 in PCIEX4 slot? Thanks a lot.
I ended up getting the 4k avermedia but I get micro stutters. Will changing it to the top pcie help with that? Apparently the top one is "faster" I have the gpu on top and capture card on the bottom. I have msi x570 mag tomahawk wifi mobo. Rtx 3070,amd 5900x and 128gb of ram.. Its way better than the elgato that's for sure and I can record with it most people cant notice it but I can and it bugs me.
I have a very similar motherboard. Switching to the bottom got rid of all stutters for me and several other people. I wish you didn't have to, but it seems like the bandwidth requirement of the AVerMedia 4K is more than the bottom slot can push. I would run some benchmarks or just take a note of your FPS in games before you switch though so you can tell if using the 3070 on the bottom slot hinders your performance at all.
@@BadIntentStreamTechReviews I tried all the fps on the capture card and it works the same. I'm going to switch it and see if everything plays the same with my gpu switched. I ran some benchmarks with the GPU on the top pcie. I think this is the only video that may help me out. I tried finding a video on this and nothing
@@BadIntentStreamTechReviews I played a part of a game that gave me a skip again and it gave me that same skip. I give up. Idk what is causing the issue anymore. It plays well if I play games on pc.

@@CostasInfinityGames No problem, and yeah 1080p 60 should be easy for those specs. AVerMedia usually responds pretty quickly so they should be able to confirm.
thank you so much for this review, i've been trying for a while to find a good comparison between the 4k60 pro and live gamer 4k but just keep finding posts that rank one over the other without explaining what's better you mentioned you'll try the 4k60 pro with an nvidia card though -- have you done that yet? i have an rtx 2080 myself, currently leaning towards the live gamer 4k cause of the lower latency for the preview and the high refresh rate support, but i would still like to know what you have to have to say about the 4k60 pro after using it with nvidia
You're welcome. Not yet, unfortunately. I picked the wrong time to try to pick up graphics cards due to scalpers, so I still have Nvidia testing on my to-do list.
@@BadIntentStreamTechReviews oh yeah that sucks, scalpers can cause such a headache so hopefully you can get your hands on one soon i often like to play through the preview screen though (hd60 pro) and i have a 1440p155hz monitor, so it sounds like the live gamer 4k is the way to go anyway even with nvidia, thank you for giving the only useful comparison to be found by making this underrated review
Hey thanks for the review. I had a question if you could ans plz: So in the amazon link for Avermedia one, in style can I choose USB 3.1 Gen 1? Performance wise is it the same one that you reviewed? I was going to choose the PCIE one but turns out my motherboard doesnot have a free x4 x8 or x16 available. So I wanted an external CC wich allows me to passthrough >60Hz!
Hmm, that one is the Live Gamer Ultra and I haven't used it myself. All I know for sure it can't record 4K 60 FPS - only passthrough. I skipped it for that reason.
No1 mentions recording in 21:9, please tell me bro what i can use with my 21:9 3840x1600. Amd 6800XT its recording with AMD software sucks in quality even at 100mbit
Hey man, thx a lot for these reviews, i have a problem with my new Avermedia 4k and my 144hz, i clone my monitor and automatically my fps doesnt go up 144. They are capped to 144fps even though I know it can go further. Any solution?!
I've seen it done on other motherboards, but I can't verify myself since my X570 doesn't have enough slots to fit 2 capture cards and a graphics card. If you do have enough slots, you'll also need enough bandwidth.
My stream PC have a GTX 1660 Ti (in the 16 lanes PCIe port) + 2 AVerMedia cards : one LIVE GAMER 4K (in PCIe 4 lanes slot) for capture + one LIVE GAMER 2 HD (in PCIe 1 lane slot) for the camera ; works fine. Just don't use a SLI/Crossfire motherboard, so that your capture card is *NOT* on the direct-to-cpu PCIe lanes ; those are for the GPU, so if you use another 16x slot that is for SLI, your GPU would go 8x only, sharing the direct lanes to the CPU. Check your motherboard documentation, and use those PCIe slots that are *NOT* direct to the CPU, but are connected to the motherboard chipset, so that you still get the 16x for the GPU.
Hey, I have an MEG X570 Ace Motherboard with 3 x PCI-E 4.0 x16 slots. So it doesn't really matter where I plug in the avermedia and it should work am I right?
I looked up the manual for an X570 Ace. While they're all x16 slots, only the top (PCI_E1) gives x16 bandwidth. But PCI_E3 gives x8 which should be enough for the AVerMedia. So I'd put the graphics card at the top and the GC 573 in the PCI_E3 slot.
@@BadIntentStreamTechReviews I am unsure what your asking. I wanted to stream nintendo switch. I'm using my 3080 to stream but notice it can only handle 720p 60fps on twitch. Would a capture card make my stream better? Also I wonder if the 3080 can stream nintendo switch. LOL omg...im new to steraming.
@@nalmunati I'm saying are you recording from a PS4/PS5 or Xbox or just what's on your computer? If it's just your computer, a capture card is not needed and won't help. What CPU do you have? Your 3080 is a lot stronger than my RX 5700, so 1080p 60 FPS streaming should be easy unless you're playing a demanding game. In which case what might help is launching OBS as administrator which gives it resource priority. I can't stream a lot of games without admin mode.
One day maybe. The capture card market pretty much peaked back when I released this. These are still the flagship capture cards from Elgato and AVerMedia and nothing has been released to replace them.
Can someone tell me if I’m understanding this right? I have an elgato 4k60 pro mk2. I want to play my game at 1440p 120fps. In the video he says it only captures 60fps. Does that mean I have to play in 1440p 60fps? Cause so far I am NOT liking this card. Seems like any setting I do is making videos stutter, frame drop, etc. And then the avermedia 4k does 1440p 144hz record? Does that mean that when I look back at the recording on my monitor it will be a 144fps and not 60fps on the actual video?
No it means that you can play 120 fps or higher but it will capture your recording at 1080 60fps i just bought this card and streamed my latest video using this card, i have both next gen consoles so i play at 120 fps while the 4k60 m.2 captures my gameplay at 1080 60 fps. also if you want clear crispy footage make sure your bit rate is set correctly i put in 24 hours researching this card so these are my findings
You should have researched before buying a graphics card for you main usage type, Nvidia might be more popular for some things but it still sucks at others... because if you were to try Linux distros with a Nvidia GPU you'd be saying 'Nvidia is such crap' instead

So putting the GC573 in the second slot limits its bandwidth.
nice review would of liked to see USB 3.1 (GC553) I currently have the HD 60s but looking to upgraded to an avermedia
The Elgato 4K60 Pro. As long as he has a desktop PC, it can be plugged into the motherboard. It just works, no hassle.
Once again, amazing review everything a streamer needs. Much appreciate the detailed review lad
Absolutely! Thanks for watching, tried to cover all the bases.
This video help me a lot,.
Thanks man ❤️
I only have a PCIe 2.0 x4 slot.
@@BadIntentStreamTechReviews Thanks!
Hi there,
Thanks for the incredible video.
I have a question 🙋🏻.
I have a Gigabyte AX370-gaming 5 motherboard. Can I seat the Avermedia GC573 in PCIEX4 slot?
Thanks a lot.
sorry buddy it's how it routes your pcie lns. likely your lower 16x lane doesn't have full access to it's lines
@@SYN30STM alright, update if it helps out
@@BadIntentStreamTechReviews I played a part of a game that gave me a skip again and it gave me that same skip. I give up. Idk what is causing the issue anymore. It plays well if I play games on pc.
@@SYN30STM When you run the bandwidth test in the AVerMedia software does it say you pass?
nice review man 😎 and edits 🔥
U know if buy GC573 product on my amd fx8350 cpu and gpu nvidia gtx1650 super 16 ram dual. Working fine or not.? Thnxs
I can't say for sure but it meets the requirements listed at the bottom of the official page. www.avermedia.com/us/product-detail/GC573
@@BadIntentStreamTechReviews i run the compatibility test program is say ram is not dual about other toos like cpuid is say dual is workint fine. And i have 3.0 not usb 3.1 support. For me to only streaming at 1080 60fps. I think maybe not have some issue. And my mobo is have 2 vga port at 16x. I send specs email to avermedia. So maybe waiting for some answers. Thnxs a lot. Men.🙏😉
@@CostasInfinityGames No problem, and yeah 1080p 60 should be easy for those specs. AVerMedia usually responds pretty quickly so they should be able to confirm.
@@BadIntentStreamTechReviews thnxs for your time. I like your channel so subscribe from me🇬🇷👍
Thank You for this video! Ryzen 2700x and GTX 1070 would be enough for 4k HDR . I want to buy avermedia 4k 573...
Yeah those specs look good for it!
You deserve more views! Im thinking of using ndi. Maybe do a vid on that?
Ah, good idea. I tested NDI with Streamlink but didn't cover it at all. In a future video I'll cover it yeah.
thank you so much for this review, i've been trying for a while to find a good comparison between the 4k60 pro and live gamer 4k but just keep finding posts that rank one over the other without explaining what's better
you mentioned you'll try the 4k60 pro with an nvidia card though -- have you done that yet? i have an rtx 2080 myself, currently leaning towards the live gamer 4k cause of the lower latency for the preview and the high refresh rate support, but i would still like to know what you have to have to say about the 4k60 pro after using it with nvidia
You're welcome. Not yet, unfortunately. I picked the wrong time to try to pick up graphics cards due to scalpers, so I still have Nvidia testing on my to-do list.
@@BadIntentStreamTechReviews oh yeah that sucks, scalpers can cause such a headache so hopefully you can get your hands on one soon
i often like to play through the preview screen though (hd60 pro) and i have a 1440p155hz monitor, so it sounds like the live gamer 4k is the way to go anyway even with nvidia, thank you for giving the only useful comparison to be found by making this underrated review
Hey thanks for the review. I had a question if you could ans plz:
So in the amazon link for Avermedia one, in style can I choose USB 3.1 Gen 1? Performance wise is it the same one that you reviewed? I was going to choose the PCIE one but turns out my motherboard doesnot have a free x4 x8 or x16 available. So I wanted an external CC wich allows me to passthrough >60Hz!
Hmm, that one is the Live Gamer Ultra and I haven't used it myself. All I know for sure it can't record 4K 60 FPS - only passthrough. I skipped it for that reason.
I've heard that with the Avermedia CC u cant dualstream pc withot Voicemetter like the Elgato4k60PRO M2, do you know anything about it?
No1 mentions recording in 21:9, please tell me bro what i can use with my 21:9 3840x1600.
Amd 6800XT its recording with AMD software sucks in quality even at 100mbit
So if I want to play and capture ps5 on max frames and real time response then I should get the GC573?
we have the same GPU unless you upgraded lol, Thanks for the vid!
Is that the case with every motherboard and every Live gamer 4K? or will it for sure lock me to 55 fps using the PCie 4?
Simple, to the point, for sure if my capture card gives out I'm switching lol
Hey man, thx a lot for these reviews, i have a problem with my new Avermedia 4k and my 144hz, i clone my monitor and automatically my fps doesnt go up 144.
They are capped to 144fps
even though I know it can go further.
Any solution?!
I have the same gpu as you but recentral keeps saying this card cant encode. And I updated the drivers
What settings and do you get the same error in OBS?
@@BadIntentStreamTechReviews oh nevermind my recentrul had like 3 updates so now it works
Can you install 2 internal capture cards on 1 build?
Capture cards without internal encoder make me sad
well you are using a amd build and cause of this amd and AVerMedia kind of match i am using a Nvidia gpou 1080ti so i went with Elgato hd 60 pro .
Do I need a capture card if I recently purchased a 3080?
Are you recording PC footage or console footage? If it's PC, you don't need one unless you're using a 2 PC setup.
Can we have an update video
One day maybe. The capture card market pretty much peaked back when I released this. These are still the flagship capture cards from Elgato and AVerMedia and nothing has been released to replace them.
I got the 4K pro mk2 and I’m having issues, do I need to have both computer monitor and Console monitor at 4K to capture 60 FPS 4k
want to know this too...
Thanks
Would this work with Xbox series x?
Yes, works perfectly with Xbox Series X, Series S, and PS5. Just have to disable HDCP of course.
Corey, two smokes now!
Thanks a lot
Avoid Elgato 4k60s+ £400 worth of garbage on my table which doesn't work anymore
I was left with the impression that when capturing on the sd card , is a very quality product ?
@@thesteammachine1282 Well, type Elgato reviews in Google.

I don't actually watch or own a TV. I have two gaming monitors instead.
I have the live gamer 4k and an RX6600 XT and it does not support hdr. AMD is such crap. I should've stuck with Nvidia. 😡
You should have researched before buying a graphics card for you main usage type, Nvidia might be more popular for some things but it still sucks at others... because if you were to try Linux distros with a Nvidia GPU you'd be saying 'Nvidia is such crap' instead

I have a gaming pc that only has a pcie slot for the rtx28080 ti how can I add another pcie slot for the el gato 4k60 pro????
