    NOTE: Elgato 4K60 Pro CAN record 240/144fps in OBS/XSplit, just no the 4K Capture Utility. I mis-spoke, sorta.
    Thoughts on the timecode progress bars?

      Good video! I have tried with my Elgato 4K 60 Pro, but it just duplicated frames not real 240 fps (valid frames only 60 fps). Could you share how to record real 240 fps? It will be good information. Thank you!

      I want to thank you EposVox because I watched your videos and decided to purchase the Avermedia Live HD gamer 2 I think its called. now my recordings and streams are really good. I don't think I will upgrade to the 4k capture card yet. Because even though my processor can handle it my graphics card cannot. But either way thank you.

      Is this an actual encoder card or just and interface card? i didnt really hear you talk about if the card actually encodes the data to be written to the disk. Or does it just pass through the stream to the cpu so the cpu does the encoding?

    Just got this card on your recommendation after non-stop headaches with the Elgato 4K60 PRO. What a difference! It actually works with 144hz with zero problems and passes through the audio as it should. Great!

    Previously purchased Elgato 4K 60 Pro but was really unsatisfied how it produced fake duplicated frame rate to get 240p, I've already sold it and bought Live Gamer 4K (GC573) I'm blown away by the design and quality of this card. The software RECentral 4 is also excellent. You did a great review, however I also missed the mention about the DTS pass-thru support.

    This review is precise and in-depth I really like it. Gave me a clear indication on how RECentral as a tool works and how good it's now I had the same issue with it before a while back same goes for Elgatos tools they just didn't seem grasping the concept of livestreaming and still lacked behind in core features and quality. Having the option to record in 4K / HDR content is great though probably only be done by the 0.1%. Though it's fair to say for a 300$ extension card / capture card you really don't want anything to nag about. I defintly thought about buying a capture card as it's a hobby of mine, I streamed for a whole month each day with my own settings on a un-optimal internet connection. And I hated it when my material looked like smth. straight outta the dumpster when I compiled it into a video for my channel. Now that I have a decent connection, I feel confident enough to put in some more money and buy myself a capture card with which I'm capable of stream in 1080p / 60 FPS and record 1440p / 144 FPS content in H.264 / HEVC.

    • @failxontour
      @failxontour 5 лет назад

      I'm a idiot. I only just realized if I buy this I'll loose the option to use FreeSync on my monitor as FreeSync needs DisplayPort Adaptive-Sync. And HDMI only supports variable FPS with the newly announced HDMI 2.1 standard. So I'm pretty much SOL when it comes to gaming and capturing FreeSync gameplay with a capture card.

    Hey EposVox, mind sharing which HDMI splitter you used to send another signal to your monitor?
    (Or is the included pass-through good enough?)
    Silly extra question: If you stream from RECentral, can you stream with a HDR signal somehow?

    • @EposVox
      @EposVox  6 лет назад +1

      For my monitor I just used the passthrough, it works fine enough for me.
      But I do use this Monoprice splitter to send the system to my TV and to a 30ft HDMI 2.0 cable over to my system for the capture card www.monoprice.com/product?c_id=101&cp_id=10113&cs_id=1011307&p_id=21613&seq=1&format=2

    I also have a PS4 Pro, and I've been wanting to really test my computer out, but I wasn't sure if I should get something simple, or go all out. Because it would be my first capture card, and first time streaming. But, you my friend have convinced me, if I find a good special this holiday season I'll grab it. ^^

Personally I’ve been eyeballing a 4k capture because I play lots of games on Xbox one x and want to stream it too. I only have an elgato hd60 currently so that creates a problem cause I still want my display to be in 4k.

    I just bit the bullet and I am never going back to the elgato 4k pro. Seriously...this card is amazing. Little to no setup, instead of using Elgato's Sound capture, I use voicemeeter banana to send the audio to both my gaming headset AND the capture card, basically doing the same job.
    Now, this card doesn't drop frames when recording like the elgato did. Which is amazing, I don't know why I didn't buy this card earlier. ALSO, btw, there's a noticeable reduction in video delay in OBS.

  • @BlockABoots

    Does this support Multi channel audio passthrough (5.1/7.1/DD/DTS etc)?, so i can leave my consoles audio settings as 5.1 and the AVerMedia will downmix all the audio channels to stereo on the output capture file??

    Nice summary on this card. Just picked it up myself, and I'm rather impressed and content with it. I don't find the latency on the preview all that bad though really. I wouldn't wanna do shooters on it or anything, but I think it's fine for slower adventure games, or RPGs or such.
    In any case, I would recommend this card to anyone who is on the fence. Aside from getting a bum card which is faulty, there's not much to "dislike" with this one. Avermedia has done pretty good in this model.

    Hey EposVox quick question if I have this motherboard will it work? First off I love your videos you rock!!! Should meet the pci requirement with a GIGABYTE Z370 AORUS Gaming board?

      Yep, should work fine

  • @Razyre
    @Razyre 6 лет назад

    What kind of latency do you feel this adds in the live preview out of interest?
    I'd be primarily interested in using such a card for viewing a Windows virtual machine with graphics passthrough inside a Linux environment for gaming and similar purposes, though I'm a fairly causal gamer.
    However, I tried a monitor with high input latency recently and boy oh boy did I notice it. It was bad enough that you noticed a delay when you were doing something as simple as typing...

    Hey! Thanks for all your videos on OBS and streaming, they've been a great resource. I have a question: what kind of ballpark specs do you need for a dedicated streaming PC running the Elgato 4k and OBS? I'm thinking a 4k OBS canvas, a Open-VR 4k-ish source, 2 webcams and a few filters and overlays, all output to 1080p60 on Twitch. If I use on-board graphics and cpu-based encoding, what kind of CPU do I need? Or should I go for NVENC to balance the load on the system - if so what cpu+gpu combo would you recommend? Many thanks! /Kris

    Amazing review! Im looking to upgrade my old gaming capture card (HDPVR Gaming edition 2, i know its old...) I was looking for a 4k Capture card and this one fits the profile but I have some questions...
    If I want to record 4k gameplay from my PS4 Pro what do I need? I need a 4k Monitor for my PS4 Pro and a 4k Monitor for my PC? I always had this question... It is essentially a 4k monitor for my PS4 Pro so I can record in 4k60Fps, with this caoture device, right?

    • @EposVox
      @EposVox  6 лет назад

      You don't really NEED a 4K PC monitor. You just need a 4K screen for your PS4 and a 4K capture card.

  • @TheDirewolf
    @TheDirewolf 6 лет назад

    Would I be able to record 4k60 HDR if my GPU is a 980 Ti or is a 10X0 level GPU required? I saw the recommended minimum is a 1060, which for gaming my 980Ti would outperform, but I'm wondering if there is maybe HEVC hardware on the newer cards mine doesn't have.

    • @EposVox
      @EposVox  6 лет назад

      The 980ti doesn't have the hardware HEVC decoding/encoding required, so I'm not sure it'd work unfortunately

    • @Pabula
      @Pabula 6 лет назад

      I still feel HDR is something that needs to be work out, specially for PC gaming and recording, not a big deal to me atm, i feel newer generations will be better. But im very interested on your review of the Magewell Pro Capture HDMI 4K Plus LT, specially since 4k60Pro bitrate restricted to 140 Mbps, to what i heard on your video the AVerMedia Live Gamer 4K is limited to 240 Mbps, to what i have read the Magewell Pro Capture HDMI 4K Plus LT can reach between 400-500 Mbps.
      Also would like to know if the fan on the Magewell Pro Capture HDMI 4K Plus LT is inaudible? the before none LT model had a very noisy fan.

    • @EposVox
      @EposVox  6 лет назад +1

      Well those limitations for the Elgato/AVerMedia cards are only in the supplied apps. Via OBS you have completely uncompressed access and can record any bitrate - usually more than any storage device can sustain. The same would apply to the Magewell card. It's all uncompressed access, so the bitrate is whatever you want it to be.
      I've never heard the fan from the Magewell. Will try to observe that more closely before I finish review.

If you are still in process of reviewing AVerMedia Live Gamer ULTRA could you please if possible test it with laptops? those kind of cards many times are used by people who take them to gaming events and use laptops to record. I wonder how well this card would work with different processors. Can something like 6700HQ handle it? or maybe 7700HQ or higher would be needed. Cheers.

    @lukwtwz 6 лет назад

    Good video overall. A few things: 1) ProRes files are never lossless, as you say. They're classified as 'lossy' (still great, though). 2) Davinci Resolve free version doesn't import HEVC, but the $300 'Studio' version does. 3) It's curious that the HEVC files produced by ReCentral and Live Gamer 4K are not in log format (i.e. the greyish, washed-out look characteristic of HDR video when played back on SDR display. Which - unless I misunderstood what you were saying up to and around the 9:53 mark - begs the question, are the captured files recognized by RUclips as HDR. I've uploaded many HEVC Main 10 files with HDR metadata. RUclips always announces that an HDR video is being uploaded when I do so, and it creates an SDR version as well. I hope that I just misunderstood what you said, and that this device/software isn't just recording HDR gameplay into a standard-gamma (non-log) format that just greatly resembles the original HDR feed without constituting a true HDR file (with or without metadata - that can always be 'injected' with various utilities).

    • @EposVox
      @EposVox  6 лет назад

      1 - It's "visually lossless" with generational loss being negligible, but not *technically* lossless. But close enough.
      2 - That's bizarre. They don't make that obvious nor list that as one of the paid benefits.
      3 - MediaInfo says the files are 10-bit, 2020 color space so that's about as far as I can get with determining if "real HDR." I imagine it's possibly not as accurate as other methods, but I'm really not sure.

    • @lukwtwz
      @lukwtwz 6 лет назад

      1) You didn't say "visually lossless", you said "lossless," so I just corrected that statement. Besides, base ProRes is slightly visually lossy and more compressed than, say HQ, 4444 and up. It's still my favorite codec. 2) No surprise. Blackmagic Design is a shitty company that currently doesn't have a supported release (i.e. non-beta) version of their $300 Davinci Resolve Studio (for which many people paid $1000 before they slashed the price to squirm out of support responsibility). That is, the only version of Studio still getting updates is "15 beta". Resolve 14 stopped getting updates a while back, even though there are still several widely-acknowledged, major issues. Instead of continuing to update 14 until it was suitably stable, they just released "15 beta" with a whole slew of new bugs, and gave it new features to justify taking their time with problems that carried over from 14. That said, I can assure you most HDR-compliant (Main 10 profile) HEVC files import fine. 3) If Mediainfo reports bt.2020 color primaries then it's likely real HDR, though it won't yet trigger HDR mode on TVs or on RUclips unless it also has ST.2084 transfer characteristics and BT. 2020 non-constant matrix coefficients, AFAIK (However, one can always use a metadata tool to add the other metadata, or as a last resort, import the file into Hybrid and re-export with that metadata, as Mystery Box describes on this webpage (they did a very famous RUclips HDR video, "The World in HDR"): www.mysterybox.us/blog/2016/10/27/hdr-video-part-5-grading-mastering-and-delivering-hdr

    • @EposVox
      @EposVox  6 лет назад +1

      Just checked on my TV and the raw HEVC upload does get detected as actual HDR on RUclips.

    • @lukwtwz
      @lukwtwz 6 лет назад

      That's good to know. I'm also interested to know whether the default 150Mbps files play on HDR TV's and other devices with HEVC Main 10 decoders. I plan to download one of the videos you linked and try it on my TV (2016 Sony XBR43x800d) via USB drive when I get a chance. I ordered Live Gamer 4K a couple of days ago (it's on the way) but may end up returning it unopened if I find out that my 5930K CPU won't be sufficient for even the 150Mbps NVenc option via my 2016 Titan X Pascal. Avermedia's specs do say "i5-6xxxx and up" AND Nvidia 1060 GPU and up, but I'm hoping that's an 'OR' if one plans on using only NVenc.

    Well done ☺ But a question poped up for me about the connectivity:
    - To record, you need to connect a HDMI 2.0 cable, thta should connect on the HDMI port of a GPU to the input HDMI 2.0 port of the capture card and... that's it? I think it's all you need to record without any problems... Why would you need an output HDMI 2.0 port on the capture card? I'm confused, help

    • @EposVox
      @EposVox  6 лет назад +1

      You still need to run the signal to your computer monitor. If you're passing through the signal. If you're cloning, then you don't need an output run because you already have a separate line to your monitor.

    The free PowerDirector 15 is a pretty lame giveaway. For sure they're giving it away because they can upsell you to get a higher version that supports H265. That is no doubt their one single intention when they partnered with AverMedia.
    I know this cause I use PowerDirector myself and my paid version supports H265 fine ever since PD 14.

    How do passthroughs work with high rates on an hdmi port when almost all hdmi ports on the monitors only support 60-75hz ? Typically the DP or DVI only support high frames. Nvidia panel does not let you select higher frames for an hdmi connected monitor unless that particular monitor supports that frame rate on it's hdmi port. Unfortunately for me mine are 165hz and only on DP port. My hdmi connection on the monitor specifically only supports 60hz. It seems that most hdmi ports on monitors only support 60hz from what I can tell. Can you make a video on how this subject works or how these cards allow for higher then 60 passthrough and still allow the monitor itself to somehow get higher then 60 frames on the pass through side ?
    Thanks

      @@EposVox Hi, I ended up getting a used 4K60 Pro. The card works fine, but unfortunately my monitor shows a black screen when I set the console to 1440p. I'm using an OG Acer X34, and my guess is that the reason it's not working is that the monitor doesn't advertise 1440p60 over HDMI. If I connect my PC via HDMI and I create a custom 1440p 60 Hz resolution it's displayed correctly. Do you happen to know any easy workaround or I will have to buy a new monitor? I tried using an EDID spoofer but it made no difference. What's weird is that on the console you can override the automatic settings - which to me is similar to creating a custom resolution on PC - and yet the monitor still doesn't complete the handshake.

    Does this have some sort of heat sink or active cooling? After watching Gamer's Nexus' review of the Elgato 4k60 pro I'm concerned for long term reliability of these capture cards, the 4k60 pro has no significant heat sink or any fan inside so when it's placed under a graphics card it is subject to a ton of heat without an efficient way of dissipating it.
