    The AVerMedia Live Gamer Bolt has garnered much hype - but quite possibly by those who don't understand what it actually is. The Live Gamer Bolt GC555 is a 4K 60FPS HDR capture card that connects only by Thunderbolt 3. No USB, only Thunderbolt. But it supports 4k60, 1080p240, 1440p144 and Ultrawide 3440x1440 100hz. AND it works with the OSSC! But the question remains: Who can actually use it?!

    I really been leaning on external capture cards since you dont need the second pc on just to turn on your main pc if your not planning on recording. Always felt weird to just have to have to pc on even if Im not actively using it so its nice to see some advancement.

    What's the point in having an internal card then?
    Just got a new PC with internal Elgato card and now I can't use my consoles without the computer also being on which is a big downside and waste of electricity if I just want to spend the day on the console without recording.

    • @EposVox

      I mean, most people don’t have thunderbolt 3, especially on desktops, or would just prefer to use up their available pcie slots over their limited tb3 port

    • @tmanx2724
      @tmanx2724 2 года назад

      Is the problem using your console or recording... as recording would need the PC to be on anyways; internal or external card, whereas using the console in general wouldn't depend on the PC being turned on...
      Or is the problem Thunderbolt 3? You could always try invest in Thunderbolt 3 ports or support etc.

    It would be nice if there would be a community gathered list out there that lists all laptops capable of utilizing the Bolt properly. Reason why I am bringing this up that back in the day the enclosure solution was kind of putting me off because apparently the caveat was missing PCI-E lanes that can prevent you from using it, more precisely a free PCI-E 4x lane in order to fully utilize TB3 in order to capture full resolution flawlessly.
    Is my assessment flawed here? Would be cool to get more cleared up on it. I have a MSI GT75VR 7RE laptop and it would be nice to know if it will work with it.

    Hi EposVoc!
    I have a very urgent question for you, haven't been able to find a reply anywhere after some googlin.
    I am building a Streaming + Gaming rig in a single PC case, the Phanteks 719. I was hoping to use the ITX part for the streaming PC. On a ITX Streaming system, running a 3900/3950x + a 2080, would you say that the AverMedia Live Gamer Bolt would be a good choice? I am still a little uncertain what kind of quality I should be able to pull with this (I only stream PC games). I'd be gaming on a system running another 3950x and a 2080 Ti.
    I am kind of stuck with running an External Capture Card for the ITX build, as I will be using the PCI-e lane for a graphics card. Original idea was to use my old i9 9900k on a ITX system instead and hope that its onboard graphics would be enough, but from what people say, that simply wont be enough. Hoping to get some reliable feedback on this before I start building/upgrading my systems.
    I prefer to keep it all in 1 PC case, which is why I am looking into the Phanteks 719, instead of two seperate computer. AsRock makes a ITX x570 board with a Thunderbolt3 port, which is why I thought this external capture card might work for my ideas. I am a little new to the whole streaming scene, which is why I am not certain if this is the right way to do things or if I should be looking into alternatives.
    Best regards, Hyriell

    So, as I apparently was the trigger for this vid... Thank you! Hopefully my Live Gamer 4k arrives today, I couldn't find anything saying the Bolt was actually on the market so I pulled the trigger. I've got two systems I'm streaming from in the house at the moment, with the intention of using it with a mirrorless cam. The camera is easy to move, having to dig out machines, open, pull the card, install the card, put the machines back, sort cabling, etc every time I switch spots isn't appealing, buying multiple Live 4ks isn't super appealing either, my hope was the Bolt wouldn't have that much of a price premium over the 4k, I'd then feel ok buying a couple TBolt 3 cards and having a truly portable setup. Sounds like I'll just buy that second Live 4k down the road instead. Also, AVerMedia should launch a Rev 2 Live 4k with line in now, that'd be a nice touch.

    Question, when you refer to the 50ms latency does that mean they'll be a 50ms lag between your actual gameplay (gaming PC) or is this latency only referring to your streaming portion? Would love to know if possible, thanks a million for your videos they're extremely helpful brother!

    • @EposVox

      Passthrough is real-time. This refers to the action happening in your game/the passthrough and it showing up to OBS's preview. This affects audio syncing.

      Usually lower latency and more stability. And higher specs. If we're talking PCIe vs USB.

    I am having such a hard time getting good gameplay footage with the 4K60 S+ and 4K Capture Utility. I'm recording hours at a time, sometimes recording only, and sometimes streaming and recording using Stream Link. Could it be hardware, or should I be using XSplit to stream and record? Can I bypass 4K CU?
    Edit: I have an nvme SSD on my PC I'm recording to. I know that read/write is about 1800 MB/s. I tried recording in 4K CU at 100mbps and the max of 190mbps.

    A bit off you'd complain so much about it being Thunderbolt only.. I totally get that it's a pretty "limited" market, mostly by hardware and CPU, but for people who are looking for a 4K capture card this seems to be 1 of the better options ?
    I'm literary doing all my capturing on a laptop so the only options I have is Elgato 4K60 or anything on Thunderbolt, which is why I was loooking at this card in the first place, since buying a PCI card and enclosure could cost just as much as this card if not more ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
    I'm actually leaning towards this over the 4K60 simply because it IS Thunderbolt and supports more data than USB 3 (not to mention that all reviews for the 4K60 make it sounds like a finicky device that tends to have a lot of issues XD)

  • @Necropheliac

    In my opinion avermedia missed the obvious feature of having 2 thunderbolt chips and ports. 1 for capturing a tb video signal from the source, (instead of hdmi) and a second for feeding that signal into the streaming rig. The way this is designed, you’d have to downgrade to an hdmi 2.0 signal to capture the source, which is a very annoying proposition if you’re Daisy chaining your monitors together with tb.
    The thinking is that if you’re using a thunderbolt capable device to stream, it’s possible that you’re also capturing a thunderbolt device. e.g. capturing a MacBook Pro video source, and using another MacBook Pro for streaming.

    • @EposVox
      @EposVox  6 месяцев назад

      That would have made it absurdly more expensive while making it even more niche lol

    • @Necropheliac
      @Necropheliac 6 месяцев назад

      @@EposVox I disagree. I think the vast majority of TB ports in use are Macs. PC users rarely use TB in my estimation. It would make it more expensive and it is niche already. What I’m suggesting is that they should have leaned into the niche because right now it’s not really all that useful for anyone.

    • @EposVox
      @EposVox  6 месяцев назад

      ??? It’s a capture card. It’s for capturing consoles and computers. Limiting the INPUT to Thunderbolt would vastly limit who would use it to a tiny number of people rather than just expecting any users capturing Macs to use a TB-HDMI dongle (which would be all they’d have inside the card to make this happen)
      They’d lose a huge chunk of market and gain little

    • @Necropheliac
      @Necropheliac 6 месяцев назад

      I never said they should remove the HDMI port. I don’t how you read that in my comment. My comment was about adding an additional tb3 chip.
      If someone chooses to use tb monitors, the prospect of downgrading to hdmi 2.0 and routing the video signal through another device/dongle, in addition to the capture card, is incredibly fraught with pitfalls of signal degradation and incompatibility. Ask me how I know 😂. I’m pretty sure you know this also.
