Ah man.. I wish more capture cards would support 4:4:4 chroma subsampling. 4:2:0 or 4:2:2 is fine for games, but when I was using dual PC setup, I remember being annoyed with the clarity of text when using a web browser, for example, in the capture. It'd be nice if the adaptive refresh rate option was still there for pass through (but disabled by default), so you can play your Xbox with adaptive refresh rate on a VRR-enabled monitor when the device itself is not in use in terms of recording / capturing (I think that's (edit: the detection of being in use) possible with webcams?, Hopefully it's possible with this as a UVC device but I'm not well-versed in how these things work)
Yo Adam, been searching through your videos I simply can not find it. Last year you recommended the alternative for the Elgato cam link (usb). It wasn't released yet (at least not in Europe) but you said it was better than the Elgato. What's the name? or just link the video in the reply, please
I can think of one way the passthrough support would be useful: for a machine where you primarily use it for gaming, but also want to use a PiKVM to control it remotely. When controlling a thing remotely, I don't usually mind if it's a little bit glitchy. Incidentally, is MJPEG one of the supported formats? Currently, PiKVM requires that for USB capture devices.
Thanks for covering this! Would you recommend the ASUS CU4K30 or this XR1 Pro capture card for someone wanting to play at 1440p240 on a gsync monitor with a dual PC setup while streaming at 1080p60? The audio sync issue gives me pause since playing with a variable framerate (and possibly sending a variable framerate to the capture card) sounds like it might result in the audio getting out of sync, where the ASUS card maybe doesn't have this problem? I'm curious which you prefer between the two.

@@EposVox I can't wait to have one hehehe and btw is there any splitters that are hdmi 2.1 I saw Orei did something and then it was pulled out of market I wonder why 🤔
@@EposVox unfortunately HDMI name has been bastardised. We will probably see HDMI 2.1 devices that aren't significantly different to HDMI 2.0... most of the features are now "optional" :/
HDMI 2.0 no longer exists for certification by the HDMI group. So anything now on will be HDMI 2.1, that's how I understood it at least.
Just bought this for 80 dollars
"They will probably release a FW update that disables this" WHAT?!?!?!?! Why would they "fix" the single best feature of their product? This is defacto the single best capture card in existence simply because of this. Why would they remove the single most demanded capture card feature of the past forever /cry.
Except it’s not. Because it ruins the captures. If you’re going to run a feature that ruins the viewing experience you might as well not capture at all
@@EposVox When you say ruins exactly how badly do you mean, like if you capture 1440@144hz with AS will it look worse than 1080@60? worse than 720@60? Like a VHS bootleg? :P
TBH It's ridiculous that in 2022 manufacturers still can't give us AS passthrough, we shouldn't have to make our viewing experience look bad just to get usable captures :(
@@llynellyn it's in the video, the capture has frame skips, tearing, lag etc when VRR is enabled. Ideally they'd be able to have a fix where it can both pass through the VRR and record in a fixed refresh rate but the phrasing used in the video makes it seem like it's not possible (yet at least but maybe in the mid-distant future with full featured HDMI 2.1 capture cards)
yes but does it me hoy minoy?
i owuldnt call 4:2:0 uncompressed tbh
I mean, it is in terms of data compression. Which is all that matters unless you’re zooming in 500x or doing some absurd color grading. Every video streaming site is 4:2:0 output and even Blu-ray’s are mastered in 420
nice
Early from Switzerland. 😊
Never been this early
