    To the people asking what lengthening the elbow means: He is sliding his elbow on the floor in a kind of diagonal direction. the movement goes away from the body and down towards the feet. Hope this helps😊 Happy Feldenkrais practice to everyone!

    • @JacobDeRossett
      @JacobDeRossett Год назад +1

      Oh interesting, I took it as applying pressure in the elbow and lengthening from there. Will try this way next time!

    • @feldenkrais-jakobpuchmayr
      @feldenkrais-jakobpuchmayr Год назад +2

      what you are describing is actually correct👍🏻 the elbow will apply pressure to the ground. if you press it down the shoulder will lift and that is also kind of lengthening. if you think of sliding the elbow away, pressure to the floor will also be applied and this will move your shoulder a bit differently. that‘s the beauty of Feldenkrais. you add variations or you change your thinking process behind a movement and you experience new qualities😊

      Her work is amazing, and aligns with idos a lot. Basically if you have inner peace and practice the ido portal method or even just his philosophy, you’re doing enough to tic all the pain free lifestyle boxes

My young daughter is working to be able to walk up stairs again. I understand how this will help the brain relearn under many circumstances for improving movement and relieving pain. My 19 year old elite athlete suddenly in wheelchair and now running and working on climbing stairs again and a life of "improving"!!! • @feldenkrais-jakobpuchmayr
      @feldenkrais-jakobpuchmayr Год назад +6

      Dear Malte, you can make the exercise easier by only putting one hand under your back. it doesn‘t have to be in the middle of your low back. it could also be more on the side of the back. if it is still painful you can put the hand under your buttock. this should reduce the discomfort even more. I hope this helps. just to mention this lesson is an intermediate Feldenkrais lesson. there are easier ones to reduce shoulder pain, that you could practice first. Regards, Jakob

    Ido - nice rendition of this classic Feldenkrais movement lesson, as a 30 yr. practitioner and teacher of Feldenkrais Neuromuscular training , I’m a big fan of “short-form” Feldenkrais as a great gateway into this wonderful method of self-improvement, growth and development.
    This is a great start in learning to be aware of how you are resisting to begin with and what are the features of your body and how you’ve organized the resistances deep in tonic core musculature through habits that you’re unaware of. Habits deep in the trunk, habits deep in the spine, and habits between your ears basically ;)
    Everyone dreams of strength -that we will be able to do things easier. Strength is a dream that we will be able to accomplish things that are beyond our physical ability, as we know ourselves. Most people fall into the dream of strength and then do things just for strength rather than in fact doing things to move with agility, dexterity and coordination and accomplish what they want.
    Nothing is more destructive to the joints of the human body and to the skeleton and connective tissues then the dream of strength without a dream of coordination, without a dream of grace and fluidity.

    Dwight

      Just to be clear on the intention of these Movement Lessons, you could call this type of intentional, mindful practice a stage of neurodifferentiation, one of the key stages of neuroplastic healing.
      The Feldenkrais Method Learning principles are:
      1. The mind programs the functioning of the brain
      2. A brain cannot think without motor function
      3. Awareness of movement is the key to improving movement
      4. Differentiation - making the smallest possible sensory distinctions between movements - builds brain maps
      5. Differentiation is easiest to make when the stimulus is smallest
      6. Slowness of movement is the key to awareness, and awareness is the key to learning
      7. Reduce the effort whenever possible
      8. Errors are essential, and there is no right way to move, only better ways
      9. Random movements provide variation that leads to developmental breakthroughs
      10. Even the smallest movement in one part of the body involves the entire body
      11. Many movement problems, and the pain that goes with them, are caused by learned habit, not by abnormal structure

    my hip is so tight it hurts to lay this way.... is there something i can do?

    • @saraha6237
      @saraha6237 Год назад

      Sure!
      This kind of process works best when finding a position of ease to begin with. You can always return to full supine position later.
      You might want to make sure that your head and neck lie with ease, possibly finding a little something to rest your head on, which also helps your lower body to relax.
      Concerning the hips: try putting your calfs and feet onto a couch or chair.
      It even can work with simply putting your feet to standing.
      It’s not the same as proposed by Ido, yet it’s an approximation.
      Also, each of us has a sweet spot for this oscillation - it’s worth exploring various frequencies and amplitudes.
      Good luck!
