very pleased to see that things i have done and said in my classes intuitively have been reflected here. I was today years old when i first learned about idos classes
Please look up FMS(Functional Movement Screening or Systems) this has fairly up to date research and science behind squating as well as other functional movments for your core stability and joint stabilization. It is used by fitness professionals that work with those that are in the top of their respective sports to help diagnose and treat joint instability. Squats are not inherently dangerous, it is the lack of knowledge when it come to proper biomechanics that can make any movement riskier.
YES ! Two movement researchers/Masters/players/experimentators/Teachers/Scientists ... of the highest level teaching together . That would be excellent.
2:40 This reminds me of that scene in _Aliens_ when Corporal Hicks checks the ceiling for xenomorphs and he shines his torch on them as they are crawling towards him.
Moving is something I have loved since i was 18 anything really martial arts cycling running swimming climbing. Im 35 now and have had real problems with disc trouble in the l4 5 region. I feel injury is taking my love away. I am frightened that this is it now ...no more activity. Have you had experience of working with injured people and how you approach their training. I love your videos and look forward to each new piece of the puzzle from you. respect
LOL specialization... he is also a butcher, baker and candle stick maker, folks! Great salesmanship, just like the Gracie's. Reinventing the wheal and selling it people who don't know better. Still, I am grateful for your work, it brings attention to ancient wisdom, keep it up.
That resembles many things from capoeira angola. Great to know someone who is putting some concepts we explore there into audible words. This knowledge is very important!
Ido, I love your whole approach to movement. I would love to attend a seminar should you be in the US anytime soon. If you could come to Texas, even better.
I am not a librarian. Evidence is something nice to get from research and conclusions can be drawn more efficiently, but if I waited and relied on that as the sole source of information to make my decisions about movement, I would not have been here today - both personally inside a fully functional and somewhat movement-able body, (you'd be the judge) and as a teacher with thousands of students around the world. Good luck on your research.
I only recently discovered you and your videos and I find them fascinating and inspiring. I decided 2 years ago at age 41 to abandon my fairly sedentary way of life and I started training with sandbags, skipping, kettlebells etc. Lately I'm getting bored with it and I'm becoming more interested in movement and bodyweight training. I'd love to incorporate some gymnastic type movement into my workouts. Do you reckon it's possible/advisable at my age. How would you go about doing it if you were me?
Nothing beats scientific evidence more than good old personal experience. Don't rely on scientists too much... they are constantly changing their minds!!!
I’m 67 and I’m more aware of the truth in what he is teaching than I ever was in my prior 50 yrs. in my teens I was big into weightlifting , in my 20’s yoga, in 30’s to 50’s weightlifting and endurance. After that an epiphany regarding what I needed ( helped along by shoulder surgery LOL ). We are descendants of apes Are body reflects that- so why not move the way are body is designed to do. Meaning no overhead heavy pressing since apes pull things toward them not press things away from them!!! Result= pull ups, curl ups, rope / pipe climbs. No more bench press but plenty of push ups in various forms. As a result I’m strong yet haven’t had to go to a chiropractor in over 5 yrs when I use to go frequently. As for legs- I don’t do squats with barbell anymore but plenty of step ups with dumbbells, squat jumps with front split before landing, one legged split squats, etc. and recently added deep squat walking Plus stretching lots of stretching

Wrestling is the first hand to hand combat exercise, everything that human moment is and can be preformed, learn to defend yourself, human industrial civilization is a violent society. Great video!
"If you can't move out of alignment then you are weak" That's good. It's psychological counterpart is: "When the going gets weird then the weird gets pro"
No, that's bullshit. There's an infinte amount of ways in which you can be "out of alignment". Trying to be strong or conditioned in all positions that you could possibly be in is a waste of time. You should focus on those positions that you actually will be likely in. And in your strength training you're trying to get the tension on your muscles, which necessitates that an awkward position isn't the limiting factor.
hence why strongmen lift chaotically so to speak, strengthens muscles general bodybuilders don't work on. I tried explaining this to my 15 yr old to lift chaotically for his martial arts and football conditioning, but he didn't understand, he just does what I tell him,and his by far the strongest boy for his size in his school.
No, that's extremely stupid. You can stand on your legs. You can't stand on the tips of your toes. There's an infinite amount of misalignments that instantly result in injury and you can't be come strong or conditioned in all of them nor does it benefit you to be conditioned in some random sample of them.
Cool Video. Hey Ido, I understand that everyday you are perfecting and exploring yourself. Just curious as to what movement or skill you are trying to reach as you are now? For instance, beginner want to do a free handstand. Is there something you want to do but cannot or at your level is it now just perfecting?
Can you give me a reference I can look up? Some piece of scientific evidence that supports your view that 'squats' are healthy and help us get stronger? I know Sumo squat but they usually retire early. 'Bunny hops' were practiced in many martial arts dojo until they realized they didn't strengthen legs but actually damaged the knee ligaments. This is my understanding but perhaps you have new evidence that points in the opposite direction. I would appreciate a reply. Thank you.
4:22 = So is Ido saying here that there is no such thing a "improper form" and almost all movements are "safe" as long as you progress into them appropriately? Or am I miss interpreting the message.

I had a bicycle injure a few years ago and injured my both meniscus, at one side 10cent of cartilage spill out… I decided to heal my knees on my own with strength training my body healed 55% +_. I continuing move what I can everyday. I had another life blocked for the pass 5 years but now is over and my path clear increasing my chi and more movement-breath to my daily life and path 🤗 I can’t squat as increases pain & swelling. Could you suggest a movement to help increase strength to my knees-legs 🙏
you kinda missed the point bro. or you fudged your wording; hes not saying squats make you stronger, he was pointing out that squatting should be a resting position. and if its damaging your knees, maybe its your knees that are bad and not the exercise. don't blame an exercises for your body's shortcomings....
I got to admit, im impressed!!! Damn man, i wish there was more people like you around. Something very inspiring about you, and different. I like your approach to life and training methods, im glad i subscribed. Best of luck with your training.
A T it usually is used by people whose bodies and minds are so conditioned and jealous of what those movement people can do with their free bodies. So the jealousy ones pretended to be mature, and degraded those movements as touchbutt which is a game for kids to chase each other around and to touch each other's butt. In that way, they could keep stay in their delusional comfort zones.

"We fucked it up, we made chairs." !!!!
That should've been one of the quotes 😂😂😂😂
Fun fact: 100% of the most successful strongmen, powerlifters, olympic lifters and bodybuilders use chairs.
