    Please look up FMS(Functional Movement Screening or Systems) this has fairly up to date research and science behind squating as well as other functional movments for your core stability and joint stabilization. It is used by fitness professionals that work with those that are in the top of their respective sports to help diagnose and treat joint instability. Squats are not inherently dangerous, it is the lack of knowledge when it come to proper biomechanics that can make any movement riskier.

    I am not a librarian. Evidence is something nice to get from research and conclusions can be drawn more efficiently, but if I waited and relied on that as the sole source of information to make my decisions about movement, I would not have been here today - both personally inside a fully functional and somewhat movement-able body, (you'd be the judge) and as a teacher with thousands of students around the world. Good luck on your research.

    I only recently discovered you and your videos and I find them fascinating and inspiring. I decided 2 years ago at age 41 to abandon my fairly sedentary way of life and I started training with sandbags, skipping, kettlebells etc. Lately I'm getting bored with it and I'm becoming more interested in movement and bodyweight training. I'd love to incorporate some gymnastic type movement into my workouts. Do you reckon it's possible/advisable at my age. How would you go about doing it if you were me?

    I’m 67 and I’m more aware of the truth in what he is teaching than I ever was in my prior 50 yrs. in my teens I was big into weightlifting , in my 20’s yoga, in 30’s to 50’s weightlifting and endurance. After that an epiphany regarding what I needed ( helped along by shoulder surgery LOL ). We are descendants of apes Are body reflects that- so why not move the way are body is designed to do. Meaning no overhead heavy pressing since apes pull things toward them not press things away from them!!!
    Result= pull ups, curl ups, rope / pipe climbs. No more bench press but plenty of push ups in various forms. As a result I’m strong yet haven’t had to go to a chiropractor in over 5 yrs when I use to go frequently.
    As for legs- I don’t do squats with barbell anymore but plenty of step ups with dumbbells, squat jumps with front split before landing, one legged split squats, etc. and recently added deep squat walking
    Plus stretching lots of stretching

      No, that's bullshit.
      There's an infinte amount of ways in which you can be "out of alignment". Trying to be strong or conditioned in all positions that you could possibly be in is a waste of time. You should focus on those positions that you actually will be likely in.
      And in your strength training you're trying to get the tension on your muscles, which necessitates that an awkward position isn't the limiting factor.

      I tried explaining this to my 15 yr old to lift chaotically for his martial arts and football conditioning, but he didn't understand, he just does what I tell him,and his by far the strongest boy for his size in his school.

    • @MrCmon113
      @MrCmon113 2 года назад

      No, that's extremely stupid.
      You can stand on your legs. You can't stand on the tips of your toes. There's an infinite amount of misalignments that instantly result in injury and you can't be come strong or conditioned in all of them nor does it benefit you to be conditioned in some random sample of them.

I know Sumo squat but they usually retire early. 'Bunny hops' were practiced in many martial arts dojo until they realized they didn't strengthen legs but actually damaged the knee ligaments. This is my understanding but perhaps you have new evidence that points in the opposite direction. I would appreciate a reply. Thank you.
