Robert Downey Jr's Custom '70 Boss 302 Mustang built by Speedkore | AutotopiaLA

- My friends at Speedkore built an amazing custom 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302 for Robert Downey Jr. in 2017 and unveiled it in the Ford Booth at SEMA that year and…won the Best of Show from Ford! This car is truly a work of art. An all carbon fiber front end with small sections left exposed to reveal the carbon. A “one off” set of HRE wheels skinned with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. Powered by a Ford Performance Aluminator 5.0 liter with a stage 2 Ford Performance/Roush supercharger. Power is routed through a Bowler T56 transmission and a Detroit Speed Ford 9-inch rear differential. The interior, which may be the most incredible interior I’ve ever seen was done by Gabes Street Rod Custom Interiors.
We thought only Iron Man’s Tony Stark had good taste in cars, but clearly the actor who plays him also has an eye for quality. Only a passionate car guy would go through the painstaking process of design choices to complete in partnership with Speedkore the masterpiece you see in this video.
Come take a ride with me as I carefully deliver Mr. Downey’s award winning 1970 Boss 302.

I knew Tony Stark had good taste...
Also, if they make an Iron Man 4, this car needs to be in it...
Would be cool to see him drive it in the movie!!
Its gonna get destroyed later :P
he does like Audi
RDJ rules
dont think iron man 4 will happen while tony stark is underground
I'm not even a mustang guy at heart but man that by far is one the nicest muscle car builds ive ever seen!
If you're a fan of a well designed and executed muscle car it doesn't matter which pony it is. I've been lucky enough to be up close and personal with some of the most famous muscle cars on the planet and this one holds it's own. Such a kick ass car!!
AutotopiaLA I agree with you on that!
One of the best, by far......
BZBEAST12 - agreed.. few cords that I like, but that stang is gorgeous!!
@@AutotopiaLA is it just me or are is the fit and Finish om Gm and Mopar full builds always much better than on Fords?
if I were a millionaire, i'd totally get one of these restro-mods over some showy modern supercar
You and me both all day every day!
@@AutotopiaLA true because Ferrari is turbo fake sound this is American muscle real hp and sound natural
@@AutotopiaLA hey may I ask you something I have the chance to buy one but I don't know which to pick may you help me should I get a 70 mustang gt500 white automatic or a 69 camaro z28 Rs Daytona yellow with black stripes manual which one should I go for thanks for the amazing channel keep up the great work as always
@@AlejandroP1980s 69 Z
John Mcclane 69 Camaro all day. Yellow and Black too? Oh, lord.
i'm a big fan of how RDJ spends his money
Me too. Can’t wait to see some of the other builds Speedkore is doing currently for him. They’re unveiling one at SEMA this year.
Same here!👍
The word "Perfection" immediately comes to mind when you see the details on this beautiful build! ...and they nailed the stance as well.
Damn!!!!!! I’m glad the shell of the car doesn’t look like cheep metal. The inside looks like a brand new fresh looking sneaker. Beautiful 👌🏼
This is a beautiful build. The interior is stunning.
Love speedKors vehicles! It is insane what comes out of their shop and what level product they provided a customer. Seems like they have the carbon fiber car world wrapped around their finger insanely good work there!
Gorgeous car, my dream car. But I miss the hockey stick stripes and the “302” call outs down the side.
If I ever hit the lotto, I’ll definitely have Speedkore build me my dream car. Definitely one of the top shops if not the best right now.
Walter White, doesn’t surprise me
Walter White there’s a reason why, cheap work cheap quality. Expensive work expensive quality
The basket weave is a nice cross between that home spun 70's vibe and the 21st century carbon fiber... Bravo..
This is automotive perfection I don’t care if this is your favorite make and model of car, everything from the stance to the sound to especially the interior is amazing. When the quality and attention to detail are the main focus you end up with something like this. I love it and mustangs aren’t always my favorite. Thanks for sharing another incredible build Shawn and you are right you are one of the luckiest guy in the world!
I like it! Very tastefully built and not over the top. This car can and deserves to be a daily drive. The wheels are the best replica of the original Minilite wheels of the 70's. They give the Mustang the Trans-Am look which was a look I liked during the 70's
Those HREs, the Carbon Fibers, and that interior. Holy shit I'm in love.
I know. The interior the Gabe’s did is beautiful!
My 1st car when I turned 16 (in1976) was my Grandma’s 1964.5 Mustang!!! I drove the car for many years, wish I still had it!!! What a great car. It had a 260 cid motor and it was screaming fast!!! It would screech the tires as it shifted into second gear. It was an automatic, if you put in second gear it would start in second from a dead stop. It was great for starting in the snow or rain!!! Best RWD car in the snow ever!!!!
That’s how to do an interior! Still has the classic dash shape but integrated with modern and high quality materials. I hate when companies try to redesign the whole dash and interior and it ends up dated in five years. Very classy
Just look at her. Mustang 70 boss 302 has always been my dream car.
This isn't a Boss 302.
Never knew RDJ was a car guy. Very cool and I'm hoping he still has this beauty.
I'm speechless. I'm a Ford guy and this car is simply the best of all worlds. Even the color is just superb. The yellow is muted towards Dijon with the hood ... OMG. And that interior ... OMG. In RDJ's shoes this would be near the top of my wish list. I'd take this over any lambo any day.
Couldn’t agree more!
I would never have figured Robert Downey Jr. to be a car guy.
He’s building a few cars with the Speedkore guys right now
That's Tony Stark....didn't u see his collection in the first ironman....lol
Got to spend those MEGA millions on something.
Well, he did get chased by the cops in a Porsche, with a .357 Magnum and out of his gourd on PCP....
Why bcuz he’s a flaming liberal 😂😂😂
That us a gorgeous 302 MUSTANG , I love the deep dish wheels !
Mr. stark is a man of good taste in cars ill give you that
Every Speedkore project is amazing, this is no exception. Very well done! Thanks for showing us Shawn. That color doesn't sit well with me... Hahahaha... But the rest is absolutely perfect! Those wheels are amazing, as the rest. And it goes like a bat outta hell too....
One of the cleanest 'Stang I ever saw , almost perfect : no shaker hood , no rear louver & wing. Just the right amount of contrasting stripes .Nitpicking something ? Maybe the upper portion of the bucketseat .
Roll on the throttle. What a beautiful 70', my favorite year too. It sounds amazing. To the lucky guy 👍👍
Very cool car, incredible build! Mr. Downey is very happy no doubt. Too bad that a Real Boss 302 was used to build this. Could have built it with a 6cyl. car, and it would have been just as cool.
Wasn’t a collectible 302 though. It needed a lot of love.
OK, very glad that no original Bosses were harmed in the making of this very cool Mustang!!
That's a relief....One didn't get butchered....One got fixed and saved. Killer Mustang. I'm sure Iron Man loves it.
All Boss 302's are collectible, if they could salvage it and make they certainly could have restored to original.
Are you saying it wasn't originally a Boss 302?
GlassTopRX7 This isn’t the channel for purists. There are plenty of correct 70 Bosses tucked away in storage that never see daylight honest.
You are one of the coolest, laid back dudes on youtube! Love this Boss!
Robert Downey is officially one of the coolest celebrity and actor in my book!!
Agreed!!
Wayyy nicer then a ridiculously over showy euro supercar. This is classy, iconic, fast, reliable & All American!
Agreed all the way here bro
Doubt there's a person on the planet who wouldn't say wow if they spied this car. 70 Boss for the past 40yrs has been my dream car and that's how it'd look.
And there’s still some people that have shitty things to say but personally this is as close to perfect as it gets
@@AutotopiaLAtrue and thanks for filming it.
Ha nice car, finished the video at lunch, told another guy, he ask, and I showed him your channel
Thanks for the show bra
Glad you like the channel. That car is such a clean build and drives great!
Amazing built. I would love to see more of the car tho. You are doing a great job explaining about it, but if you can show more details of the car, would be great. Tnx for sharing, and keep up
Thanks Nik. I appreciate the support and the input. As you know, we've just gotten started with this. I just learned how to edit by jumping in and going for it a few months ago. Same with shooting. We've got a lot to learn and the input makes a huge difference. Will be more aware on our next shoots to cover more detail of the vehicles.
AutotopiaLA Absolutely and you guys are doing great. Lots of potential here, and nice fresh content.
Sorry for the delay Nik..if you see this I say thanks for the support on the channel. I appreciate it. You've been supportive since the first time meeting you.
A very well done car. That year has always been my dream car.
There,s nothing Stark about this fine build. Speedkore gives their customers an Iron-Clad guarantee on all their work.
What an incredible build
Awesome shawn. Stunning ride
Thanks. Yeah, that thing is sooooo cool! Can't even explain what an honor it is to care for and drive these works of art. Lucky!!!
Shawn, your 'stock' has to have taken an serious upward bump with this video. You could very easily have left the cameras home and taken this thing out on the way back to the owner's garage, and just hammered the crap out of it and had a ball. Instead, you handled the car like it was a valuable example of someone else's property and treated it probably with much more care and respect than the typical owner.
Those production values put
AutotopiaLA in the top tier of car sites on RUclips. Thanks for an excellent job!!
One of my favorite Mustangs, & that one is done right.🇺🇸
Couldn’t agree more. And it drives as good as it looks!
LA and Chicagoland are car accident meccas. I'd be so nervous to be driving that beauty! My panic and anxiety would make me put it on a flatbed or trailer. Keep it high above the other cars. I'm sure the car was in great hands, but it is the other people I'd be worried about. Glad you made it!
Having grown up here and gotten used to horrible distracted and bad drivers I guess I’m just used to it
Love it. Looks like Speedkore is the place to make the ultimate 302... still to come :)
One of the best mustangs Ive ever seen!!
Wow ! Clean interior , amazing !
Gabe’s does the best interiors in the business currently in my opinion.
insane!!!!! this channel should have millions subscribed and views
That car is a work of art.....
Damn, Iron Man, Damn...
Yessir!! Such an incredible build from the guys at Speedkore. Not only Ironman but this car won the Ford design award last year at SEMA. Glad you're enjoying the channel.
Man thoose are some serious meat's in the back of that boss.
Great design all the way around, but I am really impressed with the interior.
The interior is stellar. That’s Gabes Custom Interiors. They’re about as good as it gets imo
That's Awesome!!
That yellow color!!!! I LOVE IT...
It’s a controversial one. It’s been love or hate since it unveiled at SEMA last year.
Color choices, inside and out, are incredible 😎👍🏆❤️
This whole build is on another level. And the drive is just as good
Absolutely perfect car. Can’t tell which is better, the late 60s Mustangs or the early 70s models.
This car is such a beautiful build
OMG that is clean... Sooo nice!
It’s a beautiful build
Love that color love the car, Mr. Downey has great taste!
Killer car. Stunning actually
To quote the chinned one....”nicely done”. Hopefully , he’ll get this one in the garage for a closer look.
freaking awesome !!! :O
The interior on this one is by far the most superb of any restomods.
Totally bad ass!!! Wish Robert to take it to Jay`s Garage and really check her out.
That would be awesome!!
I'm surprised that I've barely gotten the pleasure to subscribe to this channel. Truly amazing work! Definitely one of my best channels besides Jay Lenos 😎
Keep up the awesome work brother. Definitely enjoy your content. Cheers from Texas 👌🤘🍻
Thanks so much Jojon!! I'm with you on Jay's channel and I used to live in Austin. The last 4 years of my music career my band was based out of there and toured Texas a lot.
AutotopiaLA awesome brother! What was your bands name? Would like to check out your music if possible! Keep the content coming man!
We were called Stonehoney. I'm sure our music is still on Spotify and Pandora plus there's tons of bad bar videos of us playing everywhere from Lukenbach to Gruene Hall.
When you are Tony Stark a regular Boss 302 won't be enough.
That’s the truth! 😂
clean build
what a beauty
1970 and the 1969 mustangs my favorites
You and me both
I prefer the headlight arrangement, the taillight arrangement and the hood stripes on the 1970 Boss 302, and the engine in the 1971 Boss 351.
Your good! Love your work.
Thanks you and the Speedkore guys are the designers and builders on this car. They’re great builders.
Amazing car
Only thing I'd swap out would be the wheels but what do I know !?
To each their own and again an absolutely amazing car.
Love the channel
Sweet ride, love the sound of those Coyote engines?!!
That’s a awesome build ! I’ve always wanted a Boss 302, I would’ve been scared to even drive that thing on the hwy to deliver it with all the crazy drivers on the rd
I’ve learned to just drive them. I know what you mean but part of my business (lucky me) is driving valuable, beautiful vehicles regularly and I drive em like they’re cars.
I would've been nervous as hell driving Robert Downey Jr.'s 302 in traffic like that. Love that car. And am I the only one who noticed the guy driving up the left shoulder on multiple shots from the dashboard camera?
Speed core is killin it
Now That's a clean Rustang
She sounds sooo sweet ! Saw this at the roadster show last year(2019). I would love to take my 69 Mach to that level. But I don't have the same budget as RDJr...
This thing is an incredible build. Drives as good as it looks
What a sound
I hope the iconic Boss 302 decal on the side gets put back on.
You have a cool job!
the best old school model.
And built like this it’s just amazing
I really love those wheels
This whole car is just incredible.
Damn this car is nice nice nice !!!!!!!!
Classic mustangs are tops for me this one is sweet sounding too
Beautiful Stang. Just wish we could have seen RDJ's reaction and thoughts
Wow! Best looking restomod I’ve seen. Surely they didn’t cut up an original Boss, I hope.
That is a Very cool car
I couldn't agree more with you. Sorry for the delayed response. Somehow I missed this comment. The guys at Speedkore are building some of my favorite custom muscle cars at this point. They're designs and execution is spot on.
Could marry that car
😂😂
Downey seems to be a genuinely all round GC.
Nice rear-end gear wine on the highway
You should've shown RDJ taking possession of it. That would've been the icing on the cake.
That would’ve been cool
This is very cool
Thanks man. This car is really a work of art. Beautiful.
Love it!
Me too. Would love to drive this one every day.
I love the built 👌🏼 Personally I would have a little bit higher of a stance
A cool old Mustang, looks great, sounds great... Beautifully crafted, what,s not to like? Oh yeah, Ironman shifts it himself too!
Great comment!!
The man has good taste!
Wow what exhaust is it running that's the best sounding coyote motor I've ever heard.
First thing that would go is that big ass "Speedkore" logo on the windshield. Really kills the looks.
Very nice car 😎👍
Yeah, great design choices and it drives amazingly well
Love that he got it painted instead of going with the bare carbon fiber look, that being said I don't think I'd be ok with the speedkore badging being anywhere on mine with the exception of under the hood or somewhere inaccessible. Why? Because it might as well be a giant sign that says "steal me".
Just subscribed to your channel after watching only 1 video and noticed your 7 subscribers from hitting 10,000
Over 10K now. Crazy!!
Same !
With The Coyote Combo of It & Roush Charger Gotta Be Making @ Least 640-675 h.p. & Maybe A Little More+ That Bright Gold Metallic Was ,I Believe, One of 3 Rarest 70 BOSS Colors.Being A Previous TERMINATOR Owner,Might Want To Think About HEAT EXTRACTOR VENTS For the Hood. W/ the Blower Producing SO Much Heat,Might Not Over Heat ,W/ Over Sized Cooler For the Chgr,Which I Don' t See.
If they pushed the tune the hp could be much bigger. The color is a unique custom color choice by the owner. Don’t know about heating issues. I’ve driven it about 50 miles in LA traffic and it ran cool the whole time.
realy great taste
Dayum thats sweet
When money is no object. Goals.
Truth!
Craftsmanship is first-rate no doubt and Restomods are fine as long as a real factory muscle car isn't destroyed in the process. As an owner of an original 1970 Boss 302, a real trans am race car I see no shaker, louvers, or a rear spoiler this could have been any 70 mustang body that was chopped and modified with coil-overs and a coyote motor, and custom interior.
Bitching Stang! Love that old style look man it’s really a sick ride. You are a lucky Guy...I’m a huge Boss 429 fan but that 302 is bad ass.
The only issue I have with this car is that it’s not mine!! Truly beautiful build that drives like a dream
Great car, one of the best looking mustang body shapes imo, pity they didn't build more around the originality of the car. I love restomod but these cars are so cool in factory form already. I watched an interview on Joe Rogans channel recently with Robert D Jr and he talked about possibly selling it.
He never drives it but this is an incredible build! I spent about an hour or so in it and was blown away
My first car was a 1970 fastback. 351w Hurst 4 speed. Paid $1300 for it back in 1986
Mine was too!! Sure do miss that car
