Apparently he knows how to drive the thing though. Even if he didn't... Can't he just enjoy some great old American iron instead of the ho-hum Mercedes that all these guys drive? Captain America drives a Chevy for goodness' sakes! And that Iron Man Robert Downey Junior also drives custom Amarican cars is kinda nice too, no?
The 1967 Camaro is my fantasy car. It has been ever since I saw the movie Better Off Dead. This was so amazingly well put together that I love the modernization it received. The designers never lost sight of that classic feel. Well done!
Beautiful beautiful car. Jay relays a sad story about someone his age getting ripped off on an old rebuild. Somewhat horrifying. It's hard to get used to such callousness. Good for Jay helping him out. Time to call The Avengers! Edit: I love when the guest asks if he's familiar with the new direct inject Camaro motor and Jay sits quietly and waits for the cut to him doing over 200 mph on a race track! Jay puts in the work!
Wonderful. My very first car was this, a 1967 Camaro SS, LeMans blue, 350 4-barrel, I drove it like a little old lady, boy would it go though. We never forget our first car.
Jay is one of the very few people in this world that I consider someone to emulate (I cannot say hero). I love his love and knowledge of vehicles. I've met many famous people. I shrug. With Jay, I know, I would be so happy to speak to him as much as he would be willing to speak to me.
that is a unique color for a car, subtle but sexy at the same time. would've been awesome if someone had a video of when Robert first presented it to Chris back in the day.
steelsheen I have some "paint" that color in my nose if you're interested, I'll get out a tissue and make a painting on it that's both subtle and sexy. It'll only cost you 30k...
I would never, ever have picked that color myself. Thank god for RDJ, because now I know how gorgeous it is. Subtle, understated, but absolutely perfect on that car. Iron Man has taste
Excellent build by speed core and props to keeping it date night friendly. That ain't easy... For all of you complaining that Chris ain't a car guy, he drove it for a while with 435hp and had them Whipple it to over 700hp. That's a car guy. If he wasn't before he is now.
‘’CHRIS IS REALLY NOT A CAR GUY’’. Let’s get him an outlandishly overpowered 1967 Camaro that Jay thinks “you could get into trouble real quick” and can light em up at 60 miles per hour. You know, a “beginner package”.
It sounded like Chris basically had never really driven a car. The actor with 18 thing. So yes, totally agree it is a shame but he would probably been unable to use this thing with some sort of shifter setup. Additionally the newly added turbo package bringing it to 850hp is just silly for him.
i shed a tear every time i see one of these classic 67's turned from an original classic into one of these franken-cars. There are enough aftermarket parts and panels out there today to actually build a car from scratch. I wish these builders would do just that, use modern repop kits to build these cars and leave the vintage cars in original condition.
By the same token, there are a zillion original cars out there. These are a nice change of pace, plus they're fun to drive. The originals are poorly designed clunkers. Yeah, they look cool, but I'll take a modern car any day.
if you consider roughly 250,000 67s produced a "zillion" (with some small percentage of them still in existence and in original condition) I would be willing to bet that all variations combined there are less than 50,000 left in the wild. If you think that is a population large enough to disregard conservation, then I am not sure what you think of as limited supply. As I also stated, there are untold numbers of available repop parts out there where you can literally build a Camaro with zero original parts and that is where these modern versions should be built off of.
Generally the ones that get custom touches are old 6 cyl cars with lots of rot, many now are Dynacorn bodies. Which with a shell vin can be used as an original replacement body.
My franken '67 started life as a inline 6 with a three speed column shift and was white exterior and gold interior. No one will ever pine away over it's OEM configuration.

I also want to say thank you, Jay, for being a car hero to millions of people. Just know that none of us would enjoy the hobby nearly as much if it weren't for you. You do a LOT for the hobby. Probably more than you realize.
I'm typically a "keep them as original as possible" person, but the modernization on this is so subtle that it doesn't take away from the vehicle as a whole. It's a gorgeous car. Just gorgeous.

Kind of an exotic touch. Don't have a lot of experience here, perhaps others could provide additional feedback, but Lotus was (is) putting similar push-button transmissions on the Evora (probably other models & manufacturers do too). Definitely seems foreign on a '67 Camaro; a manual 4-speed seems more in line with the character of the build. However, it also probably fits for RDJ's personality...and for Chris's too, him not being a car guy and all. Love how Jay was courteous and stayed quiet on that detail when Dave described it.
