      Technically when characters "die" in gameplay they're actually just falling unconscious. So I think those potions and things are only good for making someone conscious again, but not enough to save someone who is dying or bring someone back after they die.

    There's a scene early on in the game where Cloud tells Tifa _"It's been 5 years, a guy can change."_ and Tifa goes _"Huh?"_ and that's such a great scene. He slipped up. When he went back to Nibelheim 5 years before the events of the game, he hid his identity by wearing his helmet the whole time because he was ashamed of not having made SOLDIER, and Tifa doesn't know that she met him there. I love that scene. From her perspective they haven't met since he left Nibelheim to become a SOLDIER back when they were kids, but because he has assumed Zack's identity, Cloud doesn't recognise that fact. There are so many little details like this scattered throughout the game, and it's just beautiful.

    • @Natachiq
      @Natachiq 4 года назад +5

      He can't have really "slipped up" though, because at the time he believed it to be true. Slipping up would be like he is hiding the fact that he said something only he knew and that Tifa wasn't suppose to hear.

    • @waraidako
      @waraidako 4 года назад +5

      @@Natachiq Maybe it's the wrong choice of words, but he did accidentally reveal something that she wasn't supposed to know. And it's such a small thing that nobody would pick up on had they not played Crisis Core and know the original story. And I just love how these tiny little subtle details are scattered throughout the game.
      It's the same with going to Mako Reactor 5, and realising that the layout is identical to Reactor 1 despite Cloud claiming that each reactor is different in the Bombing Mission, and that's his excuse for not knowing how to get to Mako storage. He doesn't recognise it himself, but the game is subtly telling you he's full of shit, and acknowledging the events of the prior games.

    I’m sorry but you butchered that recap of Crisis Core. Cloud and Zack are actually taken prisoner after they fight Sephiroth by Hojo who then experiments on Zack and Cloud with Mako and Jenova Cells. This is why Cloud is suddenly such a competent fighter. Hojo was essentially trying to turn them into Sephiroth clones. Then Zack escapes and takes Cloud with him but is gunned down by Shinra troops and Cloud is left a surviving amalgamation of himself, Zack, and Sephiroth. Even that isn’t the whole story but it implies a lot more than the summary that you provided.

    Honestly the one story beat i want them to carry over into the following installments is Aeriths death. Its a huge moment and impacts so much of how the rest of the story pans out.
    Plus i got her scene in the garden in my playthrough and when she tells cloud to promise he wont fall in love with her it killed me. From a narrative stand point, her surviving would make all of that fall flat
    I love her character moreso in this than the original but it just has to happen again. Diverging timelines or not that has to be the one constant

      @@ThePeteralonzo83 the whole game is surprisingly well written, that scene in particular was great. Im all up for false hope, i just dont want them to diverge from that in the end haha.

    • @MRayGames
      @MRayGames 4 года назад

      @Fantasy Raider im not convinced that's what's going on here at all. Time will tell but this to me tells us that theyre no longer beholden to the narrative constraints of the original. Remember, the game just gets more and more ridiculous from here on with dolphin jumping and the like. This could just mean they can take a different path to get to the endgame.
      I wondered whether theyd shift to tifa aswell....but it wouldn't work. It would suck but its not the same. We're not being set up for her death at all it would just be shock for shocks sake and have no repercussion. Aerith dies to use the holy materia to protect the planet, the team has no idea why she sacrificed herself and thats what propels the story for the rest of the game.
      Beats will change along the way but i cant see any way around that particular thing. Like i said, that HAS to be the one constant.
      As for the parallel timeline stuff i reckon we're just gonna be playing beats from zacks timeline here and there and we won't see any kind of crossover until the very end.
      The whole plot device was just them being meta and warning us now that things are going to be different and i can understand why. Just have to be hopeful that the changes work

    • @zeiters2055
      @zeiters2055 4 года назад +1

      But how would her death have any impact if there are alternate dimensions merging where different characters are still alive? You can have one “version” of Aerith die, but have another still kicking and still around for the player. This is why Nomura uses these convolutions. Its harder to make a dramatic moment hit home than it is to break the logos and tell a meta story.

    • @ThePeteralonzo83
      @ThePeteralonzo83 4 года назад +1

      @UCBc6vc14mdZH9cAhT6Etm0w Yea, the death of Zack kickstarted the game and is very crucial to Cloud's character development and so was Aerith's death as well. I'm gonna be cautiously optimistic because I really did enjoy the game because the combat system was exceptional, character dialogue/extra development for side characters was superb, and the soundtrack was awesome (especially the airbuster boss theme). Even if the ending was questionable, I'm looking forward to what they do in the future.

      Additionally, the fact that he and zack were injected with jenova cells, is why cloud's mind gets all fucked up and allows him to remember zack's memories. It's also what allows sephiroth to communicate to cloud in his mind throughout the game. The trauma and his weakened state, due to mako poisoning, breaks down his psyche. The jenova cells allow them to share memories. The combination of it all is what creates cloud's particular mental disorder, him being a "sephiroth clone" and all.

      The "clone" reference wasn't first interpreted correctly, and sure as heck confused the shit out of Cloud. A complete copy of Sephiroth was referring to how complete his blood fused with the Jenova cells, which was really surprising since Sephiroth only achieved this when Jenova cells were injected into him at the embryo stage. They've essentially become blood brothers is where I'm getting at, or literally blood relatives. Soldiers with imperfect blood transfusions eventually die due to degenerative traits, but this trait doesn't exist in Sephiroth nor does it in Cloud. Where your mind takes that info is up to your imagination, especially with Zack potentially in the mix.

    With quotes like that I was dreading it, being a 1997 day 1 player/fan.
    The way it was building, I thought I was about to kill Sephrihoth and clutching for some pain. That was the only thing that came to my mind while playing that could explain the quotes I was seeing.
    However, nope that didn’t happen. The last fights were epic, the set pieces were epic, the music was epic...and although the ending was jarring and confusing, I want the next game now and I’m pumped.

I remember Aerith dying, I remember having it hurt more when I realized she died in vain, I remember wanting to fix that lost, I also remember the original teased at the opportunity, and I remember It was all futile, the epitome of emo culture. I honestly think the "check the track record" mentality should be taken more in consideration, it needs to become the narrative of this remake. It's simple to do a quick search and read the background of Nomura, Nojima and Motomu. When you have knowledge about their godawful track record, it gets easier to understand why crap like "edge of reality" and "whispers" were inserted into the plot. Also, the childish mistake of making Cloud and his anime gang to defeat a godlike being at the end of the game. If they can kill a god already, even before leaving the first town, where's the character development? What's next, they will face a bigger and stronger god? So, there's no logical reason to give it any benefit of the doubt.

    I'm not a purist in any way so I really liked the ending and I'm basically on the same page as you are. If executed correctly, as with anything in life, whatever comes after this can be really good. I like the meta aspect of the game a lot and while many will disagree I appreciate that they are not playing it safe by replicating everything one by one. However it also means that there is a great margin for the story to go sideways so we can't truly know whether the changes are good or bad for certain until the second part comes out. At least it is an an ending that will keep the people talking, for better or worse.

    • @zeiters2055
      @zeiters2055 4 года назад +12

      Using a meta plot device like the whispers doesn't "allow them" to take creative license. It is itself a creative choice. This is a cop out Nomura uses to avoid taking responsibility for telling a normal story. That way he can make everything about belt buckles. It is also a way to avoid the technical undertaking of truly adapting a PSone Final Fantasy with modern technology. Rendering a world map, and multiple towns are the things that have given Square Enix trouble updating the series ever since Final Fantasy X. With this "meta story telling" they are creating a rationalization for more linear hallway level designs, and not creating a true interconnected world. "Oh sorry we don't have a world map, because the ke3pERsOfFAte don't want you to go therrrrre"

Obviously the inclusion of the Whispers was a creative choice and I'm not saying that it allows Nomura or whoever creative license, but that they were inserted into the story for a purpose that you can agree or disagree with, and for me, key word being here me, it works. I like the idea that the game itself is acknowledging in its narrative that it is a product of something preexisting, that the original game is this momentous, legendary succession of events that must be followed yet somehow things start to go off track and are not happening as they should, and some characters, including the main antagonist, become or are becoming aware of this and try to obtain a different outcome. I also like that this could mean they will be fixing segments of the lore that were introduced with the Compilation that were done horribly or adding content from the original game that we didn't get back in the day, like more about the Cetras and The Promised Land. As I said, I won't have a problem with any of this as long as they do it right. Of course this is just my opinion and the executions of these ideas will depend on whatever they decide to do for future entrys, so there is still a high chance that it will all go to shit but there is no way to know yet. Not even whether the next games will be linear or not, especially since they have the hits and misses of FFXV's open world as a framework on what they should/shouldn't do. There is a precedent, open world has been attempted before, despite how uninspired it was. As of now I thoroughly enjoyed this first part of this project, it's not perfect, it has pacing issues, textures don't load sometimes, the sidequests could have been a billion times better and most of them are irrelevant, Roche is kind of hit and miss, and the penultimate boss was too KH for my taste, but the good things far outweigh the bad, even the linearity I don't mind thanks to great art design, character interactions and the excellent battle system. The linearity could even be an aspect that might not be as unintentional (unintentional as in done to be as cheap as possible) as it seems; Writing on Games saw a meaning to the structure of Midgar that is very in tune with the setting and what Shinra represents for this world that I hadn't even noticed, while giving his fair share of criticisms. It doesn't have to work for everyone and I understand why many are dissappointed or upset. You are entitled to your opinion and I'm entitled to mine. Our expectations on this remake were just different, and even so the original FFVII has not dissappeared or been set aside. You'll always have that experience, no matter how awful this one was for you.

      "but that they were inserted into the story for a purpose that you can agree or disagree with"
      They were not inserted into the story for the purpose of "changing the timeline." If Nomura wanted to change some of the events, he would have simply changed them. But Nomura puts devices like "Whisperers" in video games because he prefers these coiled up convolutions as a form of storytelling. If he wanted to change the events of FFVII, he would just change them. There are many ways you could change FFVII to improve it. But that was not the intent nor the substance of what Nomura did.

    • @MelaniWanda

      @@zeiters2055 The concept itself doesn't allow them to do anything, it's not a permission pass, they wanted the story to go a certain way and so they did. Everything that was added can be labeled as such. It's not contradictory at all.
      Nomura likes his convoluted bullshit, true, but this seems to be an actually functional and refined version of it. Is the existence of Fate such an alien notion to be included in the world of Final Fantasy VII? For a story with Chosen Ones and a great evil that must be defeated and a sort of sentient Lifestream from which a dead girl can stop a Meteor from destroying the world? I don't think so. In the end, the Whispers are just the will of the planet making sure that destiny takes its rightful course. It's not complicated to grasp and for all the drama surrounding the ending all it could mean is that key moments may change or not but the rest will probably either be kept intact, expanded or other stuff will be added. That's it. This can allow for simoultaneous juxtaposition between events of the original and remake events within the same narrative. The constant feedback going back and forth with what the characters should be doing, what they do, what they don't, what we retroactively know and all of that being acknowledged by the game-call me crazy but that is interesting and worth exploring imo. Sure, Nomura could have not included The Whispers and just changed things, but I do not dislike this angle. Nothing would be overwritten that way and it wouldn't have to be the Ultimate Final Fantasy 7 experience, for that you'll still have the classic game. The question here is what are the consequences of going against what we, the players, know so well? Can it be done? It is a story that could also include the perspective Sephiroth's capability of agency too, in putting the thought out there of whether he can escape his end. Is it convoluted? Yeah. But it's not the KH kind of convoluted where simple things are made complicated for the sake of being edgy and trying to be deep. As the crew said in the review it feels more like what the creators of Evangelion are doing with the movies and what Kojima did back in the day with MGS2. Is that necessarily a bad thing? It doesn't have to be, at least not to me. Also, it may not be the fixing of a timeline we're dealing with but rather alternate dimensions. Either way, we're both basing our opinions on speculation since we can't know what the intent of Nomura or the devs were and what are the plans for the future at this point so we'll just have to wait and see. Or just agree to disagree.

Many sections of the game would have been blocked off anyways and it doesn't make any sense narratively to go back to these places... They don't even do that in the original.
      As for the next part, whenever that is, the party is still going to be on the hunt for Sephiroth and probably still go to all the same places you know and love from the original game. Which is one of many plot inconsistencies. Sephiroth have dozens of "clones" just like Cloud. The plot forces a dramatic approach to it, Cloud gave him the black materia and etc... but any of the other clones could have done the same. So, the whole edgelord love festival between Sephiroth and Cloud is really forced, they have this "connection" because the plot said so.

    • @LowSkillPlays
      @LowSkillPlays 4 года назад

      @@RRRRRRRRR33 it's not forced. Cloud was the one that "killed" Sephiroth. The reason Cloud was there is because the mission was to his hometown. Afterwards he and Zack were taken and experimented on. Zack already had a stronger constitution because of his Mako exposure in SOLDIER. Cloud came down with Mako poisoning during this and was injected with JENOVA cells, but he was rescued by Zack so you imagine the experimentation wasn't complete. Cloud was a vegetable for most of the time he and Zack were together. Then Zack was murdered and Cloud snapped, basically PTSDing Zack out of existence. Cloud hears Sephiroth is still alive later and of course he still wants to finish the job, not to mention the JENOVA cells in him wanting to complete the Reunion. There's lots of reasons you could theorize that the hold on Cloud isn't as strong as it is for other Sephiroth "clones." But it's not like him being the guy is completely coincidental.

Saying that, all this over complication to justify the edgelord protagonist lol My point is: the black materia, who is the pivotal moment (the, guess what, """"Reunion""") could be delivered by any of the Sephiroth's clones. The writers already used them to fake out sephiroth in the shinra tower, so you can't simply disregard this plot element as the story goes on. Nomura used the same gimmick to justify an entire movie for example. You can use these clones as much as you want, they can fall from the sky, they can come from Nomura's asshole, etc... but for this very specific moment that you need to justify your protagonist, they use Cloud instead. This is just too convenient, cheap and feeble storytelling. Also, let's disregard how Jenova is a blatant copy of The Thing? This is what happens when the japanese take a concept and apply their own madness into it. Sometimes it works, but most of the time the result is a mess. I was expecting the remake to rewrite Jenova, use the same ideas but with a better execution... but no, let's add time-travel instead lol

    MGS4 was marketed as a franchise-wide, fan club exclusive game. This remake was marketed as a reset for newcomers when in realty it’s more like MGS4, referencing and homaging the entire franchise and needing players to be established fans of it. It’s breaking sales records based off semi-false advertising, only the gameplay and production values were reset and inviting. MGS2’s false advertising was thematic to the game’s core narrative/themes, so again it’s not the same.
    Half Life Alyx was a little similar but not as relentlessly baiting new/VR players, since the devs made it clear they should have knowledge of the entire franchise and even made all the games free pre-release for newcomers to catch up.

  • @brandonp6880
    @brandonp6880 4 года назад +12

    Also this is something most people haven’t realized but, the seven seconds till the end line from the end of the game refers to how cloud had seven seconds to save Aerith, but he failed to do so. After all why does the city of the ancients theme play in that scene between cloud and sephiroth? Seven seconds is all it took to have Aerith finish praying for holy and in those seven seconds she was killed by the one man who sore to destroy the planet. And people need to understand this. In part II which I believe will go up from the Nibelheim flash back and end at the reunion with cloud awakening sephiroth and the weapons. In part II square enix will for sure include all the core scenes we remember such as Rufus parade, Barrets relationship with Dyne, the gold saucer, rocket town, Cosmo canyon and many more. Otherwise if you don’t include those it’s no longer Final Fantasy VII. And keep in mind square likes to mess with peoples nostalgia and get them excited to see their favorite scenes so if part II doesn’t include any of these scenes from leaving midgar than how would square enix market the game? In the trailers we’ll get hyped seeing the temple of the ancients, Cosmo canyon and the reunion. But if square gets rid of all of these elements than how would they market this game into peoples nostalgia? So I do believe part II will be a faithful retelling however I’m almost positive the reunion will be a lot more meta with all of this stuff going on with defining destiny. And because of this I believe that the only destiny that will be defined is sephiroths. He will be permanently defeated and gone from the life stream. So people I wouldn’t worry as much for part II since why else would square make this game into parts? They said remaking final fantasy VII would take too long and that if they made it one game so much content would be cut, it the original team behind this project and Kitase knows this game better than anyone so I’m sure as producer he will be watching over this project carefully to make sure that it will live up to out expectations. Sure you can’t please everyone but if you can reimagine all of the key events with the quality of remake part I than they’ve done it.

The reason everyone sees the white explosion/particles is because the main gang has just altered fate and this has an effect on every timeline, at any particular moment. The thing with Zack is, we honestly don’t know if he is alive or dies and it has been set up that way. Remember, these devs lead us to believe this was a remake when in reality it wasn’t, it was a REMAKE of the original events. Which SEPHIROTH was orchestrating to change his fate. But he needed cloud to beat fate for him.
    So, with that in mind, I don’t think Zack being seen with cloud at the end crossing paths is direct reference to a different reality/time line (which is why the times do not end up), but some sort of memory, or presence felt by Aerith (as she is is heavily connected to the planet) before Zacks’s demise. I’m CC she feels Zack’s passing. This is the same Aerith. Being on that spot (where Zack meets his demise in the CC) brought back those exact feelings.
    But, it’s done in such away to keep us guessing. This what I think any way. Time will tell. I believe Zack will die, is dead.

      It also doesnt let you really experiment with the parties and character building systems because everything is confined to these linear dungeon/battle arenas. Midgar was linear in the original FFVII because it intended for you to get to the world map, then choose when you want to grind, apply different materias, weapons and so forth.

    I know I'm late to the party here but @ 24:00 minutes in you guys are piecing together the Nibelhiem flashback for the ones who never played the OG. The Flashback was 5 years prior to the start of the game. Cloud doesn't remember killing Sephiroth during his retelling of the events but states official record state Sephiroth dies that day. Much later on in the game we find out Cloud's memory was all wrong and the actual events happened differently. He didn't kill Sephiroth but tossed him down into the Mako pool in the reactor and he was never seen again until the Shinra Building events. Anyway, once Cloud find himself with the help of Tifa uncovering the true events. Zangan, Tifa's martial arts teacher got her out of the reactor and took he to Midgar to get her healed of her wounds (Sephiroth slashed her). Hojo showed up and took Cloud and Zack prisoner in the basement lab of the Shinra Mansion. There, Hojo experimented on both Zack and Cloud. Both Zack and Cloud were showered with Mako and injected with Jenova cells. Being that Zack went through the process once before since he was a SOLDIER, he wasn't as affected as Cloud was. They were held in the basement lab for 5 years before they broke out. Cloud was catatonic from his exposure to the Mako. Zack carried him out and hitch hiked all the way to the Midgar outskirts talking about becoming a mercenary. That's where Shrinra show up hunting them. If you check each of the 4 bookcases in the very back of the basement lab, there is text that talk about 2 escapees, it is clearly talking about Cloud and Zack but doesn't mention their names.. Anyway, in the OG Zack dies defending Cloud on the ridge but they leave Cloud because he is still catatonic. After Shinra leaves them for dead, he crawls over to Zack and picks up his sword. Some how Cloud manages to end up at the Sector 7 train station where Tifa finds him and that wakes him up out of his stupor and this is where Cloud assumes Zack's identity as a merc and joins the mission to help destroy the Sector 1 Mako Reactor. all that stuff on the ridge overlooking Midgar happens, days before the start of the game. Now in Remake, Zack is survived but it's a parallel timeline. Does he go on to do everything as Cloud did or not, we have to wait. Will this parallel time line intersect with the main time line? I'm suspecting (as many others are) yes, but only at key and major story plot points, like Aerith's death, and maybe when Cloud give's the black materia to Sephirtoth's body in the Mako crystal at the northern crater, and maybe Cloud and Zach will get to team up to destroy Sephiroth once and for all at the story's end, then the second parallel timeline will seize to exist and Zack will fade away leaving us with the ending of FF7

    This was my first Final Fantasy game ever and i love this game..i think! What i will say is that this game had probably the highest peaks of gaming i’ve ever experienced. When i’m shooting off limit breaks, timing my combat well, and using my summons, on some of the best designed bosses, I am left completely blown away HOWEVER the only thing that left me short of calling this an all time masterpiece is the length of game which took me about 35 hours. With the sequel rebirth being over 80 hours and then ultimately a third game, my concern is that there may be some fatigue by the time i’m done

    AMAZING Spoilercast! Thank you!!! Now: FF7 Remake is brilliant (for me). And I played the original multiple times (huge fan here). My theory is: Sephiroth has manipulated us through all of FF7 Remake to achieve a goal we do not fully understand yet. He is a manifestation (from inside the lifestream) of the original Sephiroth's consciousness who lost in the original and lost again in Advent Children. The lifestream is endless and timeless (it does not abide by the rules of time and space), so it can cross timelines and parallel universes (as can Sephiroth). Everything we did in the remake, we did so unwittingly to allow Sephiroth to do what he wants. But now, no one knows what could happen, not even him. The possibilities are endless. This saga is all about him (and Jenova), and has always been that way. And it's a goddamm masterpeice.

      I feel exactly the same if they made JENOVA the final boss it would have been amazing but nope it had to go crazy. I lost hope for this game because all the way through I was like everything feels right then bam just kidding alternate universes/timeline/possibly time travel and other crap I don’t care for. Also how lame if sephiroth is time traveling Nomura and others just copied Nomura’s idea from dream drop distance and we all know how bad that games story is.

    • @PSVRUNDERGROUND
      @PSVRUNDERGROUND 4 года назад

      Roflrex seems like Kitase went on record saying that the reason they included sephiroth so much is because he’s already an established villain, and wanted to include him more rather than the slow build up. This is imo the only thing that doing the episodic releases has messed up then. Sephiroth’s look isn’t what made him a great villain, it was the buildup and backstory first. I also don’t think they did it properly, the ending was confusing and convoluted to newcomers AND against purists wishes... having them just be the jenovas manifestations of the reunion guys would be fine though but need to more obviously be that.

      mana269 yeah I haven’t lost complete hope yet just because of the bad ending though. That glimpse of the temple of the ancients and open world at shinra HQ was stunning, and at the very end they said it’s time to go after sephiroth so it’s kind of confusing. The ghosts to me were gonna be some way to alter the timeline which I thought would be cool as a side thing, I’m guessing because so many people wanted a way to save aerith, but after defeating that and the whole Biggs waking up, Zach being alive thing really just seems like poor,sloppy writing after what was just some of the most incredible writing I’ve ever seen in a video game. Crazy that they would risk that at the end after all the perfectly executed hard work they put into the rest.

They maybe introducing some new elements in the story but I think it would still end up the same in the end. What have we learned in every story about defying destiny or changing the past? It always fights back like the butterfly effect or back to the future. I think the writers are toying with us with the unknown stuff. They may change some of the events or order of the events but surely we are going to visit all the places in the planet still. I know they may give us hope that Aerith might live but Im pretty sure she would still end up dead in a more painfull way because they gave us hope in making us believe they would do everything to save her but I believe she will still die in a more painfull way. In the lifestream time does not exist. It is where Sephiroth lies at the center of the crater.

    For players of the original, in regards to Zack, they also got a "Who the fuck is this guy" moment during the Sephiroth induced flashback in the Northern Crater. So newcomers being confused about who Zack is was probably intentional. With that being said, newcomers were privy to more information than Zack's first introduction in the original as we see him directly referring to Cloud and carrying him. Players of the original didn't get to make that connection until they witnessed a hidden cutscene by going back to Nibelheim and examining the experimental holding cells. This cutscene does not occur if you just follow the plot of the main story. You have to have had the drive to go out of your way to go back to Nibelheim and revisit the base of the Shinra mansion. So it was really cool because it gave you context to who that was in the Sephiroth induced flashback, then all the pieces began to fit. But you couldn't come across it organically just by playing the game straight. The game never tells you to revisit the Shinra mansion or anything. You have to do this of your own accord.
    This being in the game the way it was served as the underpinning to Aerith's resurrection rumors.

    For those of us that know the original story, this is fresh and interesting (for me it is), but how can a newcomer completely enjoy this if they don't understand all of the details shown in the last hour of this game? Hojo telling Cloud he wasn't in SOLDIER, Zack fighting off Shinra soldiers, Red XIII running through the canyon. These are things a newcomer would be forced to search the internet or ask a friend about. If you're trying to broaden the fan base and make record sells, doesn't this defeat that purpose ? Sure maybe some newcomers will want to continue the journey, even though it's confusing, but a lot will either not be interested or even care to do research about what confused them. Also, you're forcing us original fans to spoil what happens in the future by having us explai the visions in the latter part of the game to new comers. It's just a mess for newcomers. As for me, I absolutely love it, but isn't the goal to broaden the base? You've created a divide among the fans of the original, between those like me who like the change and those that despise it, so that's going to affect the sales of the sequel in a negative way. Add on top of that the newcomers that lost interest after experiencing the last hour of this game, and the sales are going to be a disaster.

      I can try to give you some of my perspective, as a newcomer to FFVII and mostly Final Fantasy as a whole. The only FF I have played is XV and I never finished it. I know absolutely nothing about the original story and avoided any spoilers for it, I did not even know who Aerith was before I started the game, let alone that she died (until I started looking things up after finishing the remake lol). My brother is the same but never even played XV, and we played through the remake together. With that context out of the way: We both loved this game. We loved the characters from about chapter 3 on, I was heartbroken when Jessie dies and we were sold on all the story beats even when they got a little ridiculous because they always felt grounded enough by one person or anothers dialogue choices. The combat was unbelievably satisfying and I can't wait to keep playing it. The reveals you talk about were just interesting moments to us that got us hype to discover more about. When Hojo says Cloud wasn't exactly a soldier we were like wtf, what does this mean, why has he bathed in Mako then, is he this, is he that. It was just exciting. We could piece together that fate was being toyed with based on Red's comments and that somehow we were breaking a part of a story. When we saw the flashforwards during the battle we thought, okay this is either the path we're on or a future we're trying to avoid, and we were excited to find out which it is. Zack showing up I would say is the only thing where we had no clue what was going on, but figured we would get answers going forward, and visually it was still awesome. All that said, I then start looking things up, as one does with something they are interested in, and find out the whispers were never in the original and THATS the story they are trying to keep us on!? I tell my brother and we had the same exact statement: So. Fucking. Cool. The more I found out about what was done in the original and what it means for this game the more I get excited to replay the game, and for the future. I do worry a bit it will get too insane and not make sense, and I hope that doesn't happen, but we still love this game. Bottom line: FF now has 2 more fans. Hope that wall of text gives you some insight from at least one complete newcomer to this series!

I absolutely love this game. I'm on my second playthrough now. I played the original back in 1997. I can't understand for the life of me how they managed to recreate that same magic. My only concern now is whether or not the the changes have put the creators in a position to possibly fail. Following the original plot is a guaranteed homerun. Deviating from that may or may not succeed. It's a huge gamble. Let's see how this unfolds.

I can definitely say that this game felt special while we were going through it, we haven't stopped talking about it. I can't wait for some of my friends to finish it as well to keep the conversations going. At first I had wished I went back and played the original first (as I was only 2 years old when it came out) but now I'm so happy about the experience I had. I do also worry that it might have set them up to fail if they change too much, even though I don't know much about the rest of the original. I hope they follow the same story locations at least and some major beats (can't say what those would be though) because clearly that story resonated with so many people. I do have a question that maybe you can provide thoughts on though. As I went through this game, after each chapter I would watch gameplay of the original up to the point I was at in the remake. Now that it is over, I'm wondering if I should keep watching the playthrough to the end since it seems future installments may not hold to it? To better explain the story they're wondering about in the video, The people with numbered tattoos are failed Jenova experiments that were experiments to create the ultimate super-soldier, Sephiroth. Further story on that is expanded later in the game, at least in the original. Also, the way I understand it from reading a few articles and forums on the story of the original game, the Sephiroth you see in this game was described to me as "a manifestation of Jenova's will", where Jenova can control her cells. The remake seems to elaborate a little more and clear confusion by showing a scene where Sephiroth turns out to be one of the numbered failed clone experiments, what I would presume again was being manipulated by Jenova. The real body of Sephiroth in the original game is later found in the game being preserved in crystallized Mako in the canyon where the reunion is held and the numbered failed clones gather to. This was due to Cloud fighting and throwing Sephiroth over the edge of the reactor, and Sephiroth being swept away into the lifestream, thought to be dead. The point of the reunion was the awakening of the real Sephiroth. Also, the original Jenova was headless because Sephiroth ripped her head off and carried it with him out of the Shinra building, lol.
