  • Many beginner artists find adding human figures into their watercolor sketches, rather intimidating. In this video, I share my tips, tricks and experience on how to sketch a large group of people.
I am a regular urban sketcher, actively involved with Urbansketchers Mumbai chapter. I love sketching outdoors using a line and wash watercolor technique. My technique relies upon identifying big shapes and gently building values.
I upload full-length watercolour tutorials on Skillshare. Use this link to access one of my classes free of charge:

The materials I use in this demo are as follows:
Paper: Strathmore Mixed Media Visual Journal. 9 x 12
Paints: 9 assorted artist grade watercolours
Brushes: 4, 8, 12 round, Escoda Versatil, local flat brush
Pens: Sailor Fude ink pen (Carbon Black ink), white glass pencil.

I especially liked the way you loosely outlined some of the crowd of people in ink and some were just blobs of color but it all made sense together. Nicely done.

Its amazing what shortcuts you can get away with. Our minds are always looking for patterns.
