Very well done. I do them on a ramp & drop the subframe, so you have my respect! I would just add, always make sure you have a new gasket for the turbo oil feed pipe as I have been caught out recycling the old one when it leaked.
I do have one in the back of the van, will only use it in fairly light rain as heavy rain often comes with wind which isn’t too safe to have around a customers car
Ahhh the good old VW egr and cooler! I have only done a handful of these, because the customers never wanted to spend the money to replace them, where I used to work! We used to fit recon or cheap egr units with coolers, as they were half price of the genuine. But we would always note that on the invoice. Nice oily coolant drips down your arms and on your face when doing these! Never done one laying on the floor but I should imagine it’s probably easier in some ways than doing them on a ramp. I used to remove the dpf and let the subframe down a bit for more room. I hated the oil feed/return pipes because if you bent them slightly or forgot to order replacement seals they would always leak! Nice when you put it all back together and the fault is cured though! On another note, it would be interesting to hear your story, if you wanted to share it of corse. How you started, did you work for a garage, was it a hobby, were you an apprentice, what sort of places you worked at (main dealer, small independent, large independent, etc), what you favourite jobs are like diags, clutches, engine repairs, timing belts etc. how you came to get into mobile and going on your own, do you miss working for or with people, would you ever go back, how long you have been doing mechanics and how long in your own? What made you decide to go on your own? Sorry for all the questions, I do the same as you and I’m genuinely interested. Every time I see your unit I’m jealous, because It’s exactly what I need! No walk in customers, just a nice space to get on with the work I already have, with no distractions! Keep up the good work!

Deleted both on my pd BKC. Bypass coolant, darkside egr delete. Temp sits just off 90 but what a difference 50 to 80 mph. Was running on pure clean veg oil pre covid until it went up in price £1.95 L now
I really enjoy doing those egr valves, admittedly I've only ever done them on a ramp but they are good earner. And once you know what's what it's straight forward, I no longer remove the turbo oil feed pipe as it will wiggle out from behind it.......just saves me getting dripped on for half the job

Currently doing one on the street , forgot to put the car on my ramps before removing parts so jacking up will need to do and chuck the ramps under after , but defo a mission compared to a 1.9 anyways 😂
Ello mate. I don’t envy you doing one one these on your back as they are a pig on a lift. Anyway.. I’ve found the job to be 10x easier by removing everything from the top of the gearbox and sliding the egr out without removing the turbo drain pipes. Dpf has to drop back to get to the bolts but without removing the oil pipes you save a massive amount of time. Just a tip.

Great Job that Kerby! No, not easy to work on but fair play that you're good at them and enjoy it. Think a neck brace would be needed by me for that job. I have a golf 5 1.9tdi, 09 plate so the last of the 1.95tdi type golf... my coolant is looking murky as well, i only changed it 18 months ago and have done 2k since then, so I'm assuming it's the egr cooler and or the oil cooler?? It needs doing and I haven't been well enough to have a go myself. What areas do you typically work in and around, could do with making some plans to get it sorted. Thanks for the videos, subbed!! 👍

@kerbsidemobilemechanic ah ok, I'm in the northwest myself, so definitely out of reach then. Yes, I'm hoping not the head gasket and I really can't see it with it being the ever reliable 8v sohc engine. I checked again recently and the coolant discolouration hasn't worsened any at all, fingers crossed its the oil cooler?? Which I thought was the abs (engineering plastic) plastic. Amazes me that one! Luckily the filter housing is the other aluminium version, so the cooler gasket OR then the egr cooler AND possibly the pcv in the rocker cover?? Either way I'll drive to a minimum and fix it myself as soon as the weather permits.
I like that you capped and clamped the coolant lines, when i started doing that this job went from a PITA to perfectly acceptable. I only fit genuine, had 2 aftermarket units fail on installation so just dont humour it. also I leave the driveshaft in, but disconnect the dogbone mount and shim the engine/gearbox forward as far as she will suffer.
Haha nothing like a load of coolant pouring down your face 😂 Since being self employed I’ve probably done in the region of 10 and always used pierburg units from Euros, not had one come back luckily 🤞🏼

I dont know about your neck of the woods, but here (scotland) if i fit a genuine VW mercedes or bmw part, and it fails, they take it into their workshop and replace it FOC . so cross your T's and dot your I's on fitment and your arse is covered.

I’ve just realised I haven’t included the video of the fault codes, but, you’ll get an engine management light or coil light on accompanied by a loss of power/limp mode, possibly a non start sometimes and then fault codes in system to match
Yeah mine on the 1.6 ibiza died at 40k, (app says stuck closed )seat quoted £770. Local guy said he would do it for 680. Not happening. Got it mapped out instead. Now at 180k and no more issues
@@jonobaywindow yes it does, at around 300 miles of mixed driving.theres a VAG DPF app I use on my phone with an obd reader which shows it regens when it gets to about 21g soot. Regens best at around 1800rpm. Temps then get up to around 600C to burn it off. As kerbside says, there are conditions, such as a minimum amount of fuel in the tank (25% I think), and minimum revs (if you're in stationary traffic the regen stops)
Not an easy job ,,,I have done a clean on turbocharger, intake manifold egr cooler on my vw touran tdi 2009 .same 5 hours of work .that's the way to do it on the floor,,,you quite enjoyed doing it ,,
Why the heck dont engineers ever think of the people who have to replace broken and failed parts? That looks like an absolute nightmare of a job. I had to replace the 2 hoses that split on my Nissan Juke which are down the back of the engine for the DPF Pressure sensor, it was all done by feel and took me 2 friggin days. it felt like i'd been hit by a truck, bent over jamming my arms and hands in there. Never again, think id rather get rid of the car
Delete it, how? Didn't even know that was an option , can you Delete egr valve and cooler on a Volvo? If so wish I knew before 6 weeks ago when it cost me 12 hundred and 80 pounds for new EGR valve and cooler from Volvo and 600 hundred pounds for labour wow all in all wow, How much would a Delete cost?

In the 4x4 model, you have to remove the entire engine to access the egr unit, because the transfer box is a hindrance.
I don’t think the whole engine has to come out but yes the 4x4 is 💩

No it doesn’t have one built into the EGR 👍🏼

Not sure on size, I have a box of assorted sizes that fit, make sure you get the corrugated pipe gaskets too

Does your DPF still self clean or do you have to wait for it to do a regen and drive it 30-40 miles at steady motorway speed?
It should self clean/regen whilst driving but certain parameters have to be met and no faults in the system 👍
