Thanks for the content man. Just separated from the military. Using the GI bill for diesel tech. I appreciate the straightness and the bluntness you provide. Just subscribed.
Your final message really hit home with me at the moment, we got a couple of new guys in the shop who prefer messing around or standing there watching, over fixing trucks. One of them talked to me tonight after work about how to move up and not do so many dirty jobs and I just told them if your going to work heavy diesel it’s going to be dirty, diag or not. Being a wrench is not as spectacular as TikTok makes it out to be, it’s hard work that takes learning, determination and passion! Thank you for being real and re affirming that idea and fact of this life! Stay safe out there brother!
@thejunkyarddrifter There is so much truism in this comment. From my experience, those people get weeded out or stay in the lube pit, haha. As you know, we have to love the diesel grind! Thank you for the comment!😁
So right about emissions and a/c work. Been in the trade for 30+ years, now in my mid 50's. I have mostly graduated to emissions work. I love it, doesn't beat me up like clutch jobs and it keeps my mid sharp sharp. Good content. A little constructive criticism.... add a little more descriptive details on the jobs your doing. For instance ...make sure your o-rings aren't twisted, try to time your valve stems 180 degrees when you put your wheels back on, the slack adjuster pauls are removable and might just need to be cleaned. I think a lot of people are using these vids for reference and it might help boost your subs and views. Anyhow, nice video keep it up.
You are the unsung heroes of the trucking industry no one ever notices you until they break down But know this without you the industry would never run right thank you for all that you do Ryan
Diesel Mechanic. It doesn't seem like it, but when that check hits the bank, and your kids are eating their favorite cereal, playing their new console, or wife likes her old car with the new repairs or a new if be it that way, you will cherish that feeling boys ! CompSci major dropped out for this and not a single fucking regret ! 😂🎉
Thanks for insight on comment. I am an IT tech and make about 30 an hour... I just dont like oncall back to back half the year. I feel like dont have a life. I see job posting for good pay in Diesel mechanic. I know starting it wont be top pay but im willing to pay my dues. Im looking into a diesel mechanic course cert...also curious on day to day
I’m starting as a diesel mechanic apprentice in 2 weeks after 18 years of doing bodywork. I’m doing it because I want to and because I want to learn as much as I can before I die. I love diesel trucks, so why shouldn’t I learn everything there is to know. It’s going to be humbling going from the go to do everything guy to a beginner and a low man on the totem pole. I’m also working on a career as a pilot at the same time (halfway there). I’m doing it because I want my son to see that you can do anything you want. I’m learning how little chasing money gets you in terms of enjoying life. Your channel and attitude is a good inspiration. Life is a fuckin journey not a destination. Enjoy the ride and make it a good one! You only get one shot!
I love emissions for the same reason. Pro tip company called champ mats makes a big mat to lay on for us field service guys. Think it's 4 ft x 3 ft. You'll love it
Dude, glad someone out there feels the same about emissions. Hey, thanks for the info. Iv been buying the most expensive yoga mat I can find. I'll try them out thanks.
I love emissions!!!! My truck exhaust smells good. Chevy Duramax all emissions hooked up!!! I use that delo 600 oil which is goid for my DEF filter!!!!
I watch this type content to learn. The best videos tell a story. It would help if you explained more and brought the camera in to show the part you are working on. Bad slack adjuster? Wish you had shown it so I could see what was bad. Seeing the diagnostic software up close would have added a lot too. You have a chance to show some interesting problems so be sure to take the viewer along for the ride and share you wisdom and knowledge along the way. Hoping you future videos give more insight into the world of a diesel mechanic.
Great video thanks, i have been specializing in the parts supply side since 2003 and only qualified last year as a red seal diesel mechanic, in theory i can do most things, but your video showed me i lack a lot of experience. What advice would you give me to make the full transition to diesel mechanic?
@DanieDuToit-fx3ho I am glad you enjoyed the video! I would suggest taking on the jobs that everyone is afraid of. Ask questions, read the instructions and manuals. Don't be afraid to fail. With every repair, there is a lesson to learn. Good luck on your journey. Enjoy the ride.😉
Keep the vids coming man! I’m 23 been a fleet mechanic for 2 years I got me a flat bed and I’m ready to do why you’re doing so help me see what it’s all about lol please and thank you
Do you ever fill the filter housing with fuel before you put the filter back in? I’m a diesel tech also but haven’t done it in years, but I recall filling them up then priming
I loved your video. I’m a lady with a Freightliner. I enrolled in an online class to increase my understanding of these things. I want to perform some repairs on my own. ❤ Actually how did you go about becoming a diesel mechanic?
@jross7277 Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed it. That is a good idea. It can save cost if you do some work yourself. I started out going to a tech school, worked in the oil field for some years, and after that, I was in the trash industry before I went out on my own. Good luck to you 👍
Just curious are you bringing your filters and fresh oil, other parts or are is the customer supplying them for when you arrive? Also what kind of mark up on parts do you typically do if you mark them up?

@JOSHUA8CS Mack uses tech tool. But it is not user-friendly at all. I think OTR makes one that can give you a readout, at least.
