Just found your channel. You’re providing great content. Thank you!
How about toolbox tour of the track?
A simple trick to these def air pressure low fault codes, air the truck above 100 psi disconnect the air line at the metering unit and initiate an scr air pressure check routine under the actions tab. If you place your finger over the air line and it has enough pressure to move your finger the pressure limiting unit is good. The spec is 75-85psi of pressure.
How much does the diagnostic link run you a year? Is it hard to get access? Or can anyone buy it?
Please make a video about what the best ASE certifications are to get when your first starting out in the industry. Thanks
Please make a video about where to start to become a diesel mechanic. How to get in the industry. What’s the best type of equipment to work on. Thanks
There’s a few ways. I went to school and got my associates. I know Cummins have like an internship thing where you can get their specific training and be a tech that way or you can find a shop and be an apprentice. I think Freightliners are the easiest then I’d say internationals the hardest.
👍 good job
Just google how to replace whatever the part is called.
Oof when you brought up going home clean, i didnt even think about that when it comes to doing mobile work. I get 6 cean uniforms changed out a week, and scrub down my hands, arms, face and neck before changing into my street clothes and getting in my car and heading home everyday. Not having that luxury would be rough.
Any chance that valve you replaced was a qr1c anti compounding port? Thats port that sends air from the service brake r12 relay to the quick release valve for the spring brakes. so that away when you have the parking brake set and step on the service brakes, the air will go into the spring brake side and release the spring brakes partially, while the service brakes are applied. In this way a dual application of the brakes is avoided, which would over extend the push rods and damage the slack adjusters, s cams and brakes. In this case the valve on the anti compounding port was broken, which caused air to leak in the opposite direction? Does this sound right? Im just guessing, im a new tech, started a few months ago, trying to learn how the air system works.
Lol when i started working as a mechanic my girlfriend said to me "wow i never realized how difficult being a mechanic was, you have to be really smart to figure out whats wrong with the vehicle". Well ya, 🤔 who would think its easy to know how all the systems on a truck operate and how to fix them?
cat back hoes have really poor designs. Cat 415-420 there notorious for leaking because of all those hose clamps, I constantly get costumers calling for hydro leaks and it’s usually solved with tightening up hose clamps. Especially where the T is on top of the transmission
Yes, sir. That is exactly what I had to do. Replaced all the clamps with heavier ones
Well done. Please drop more day in the life videos whenever you get time! Thank you sir
Hey curious to know where you got your diesel laptop and software from? Love the videos super helpful 👍🏾
I had to replace the main pressure line from the pump to the valve body and it was a pain. Dropped all the covers on the bottom to find it and had to be a contortionist to get the 4 bolts clamping down one end. There are a lot of hoses down under there and of course they all get in the way.
Yeah, obviously!
Ur in australia?
He's in Phoenix Arizona, US
Any reason for not dropping the belly pan for access? Just curious
Hey Ryan is SIS a free service? From cat ?
I believe the correct name for those is a code 61 or 62 flange seal. Looks more like a 62, that flange looks thick.
@@jcolivera881 62 for sure
Caterpillar flange - similar to sae code 62..
Gotta do a truck tour bro. Always interested what other field guys have in their trucks
Do you have or can make a video on the best ways to get started in becoming a diesel mechanic? I want to change careers and have 3 kids and a wife, so I don't have time to go to a school but I'm a very hands-on mechanical type of person that has already worked in the construction field for over a long time. I have searched online for diesel mechanic apprenticeships in my area but have not been lucky to find any. So, IDK if it's just not something that is advertised a lot or what. Please link me a video you have made or please make a video about this topic thank you so much, I love your content.
i would love to get into HD diesel tech, but I have zero experience in mechanics I'm a plumber by trade so how do you recommend for someone like me looking to switch careers go about it without going to a tech school.
@ExpatTraderFX That is a great question. I would find a small shop as a helper or try the trash industry, they always need people. Work your way up. You will do all the not so fun jobs. Goodluck on your journey. I'm glad you are enjoying the channel 😀
@RCGdiesel thanks alot it's good advice, love your channel by the way!
Open the fill cap on the hydraulic tank for pressure release to the system
@@paulpatenaude3208 ill try that next time
I always open the fill cap, turn the key on but don’t start it, and cycle all the hydraulic functions before cracking any line loose. Obviously with a blown hose there isn’t any pressure to begin with, but you can never be too careful. I’m a field tech for a Cat dealer. Nice job on the repair.
@bittercreekscvs yes that is a good way to prime the system. I do it that way when I replace pumps. 👍
I was lucky to retire just a year after zero tail swing excavators came out. Those things are a freakin pain.
@@keithmckay3454 they make them so fun to work on now haha
nothing to add, just increasing the traffic cus i enjoy your channel

Hey man love watching your content very interesting work!!! Just wondering tho, to become a mobile tech do you need a cdl???
@rileyfortner2123 Awesome bud! I'm glad you enjoyed it. You do not need a cdl. It is nice to have, but I don't wanna drive i wanna fix.
@@RCGdieseldo you know if certain companies might require one? Or would it just depend on the type of service truck/weight?
@rileyfortner2123 service truck weight for sure and you do get paid more usually.
@@RCGdieselwould you recommend to get one if the opportunity came up or should I no sweat it being a problem for getting that position in the future?
@@rileyfortner2123I’m a mobile diesel mechanic in California. Where it don’t get any stricter than here. You don’t need a cdl to work on semi trucks. Just a business license, business insurance and if you’re doing service on the highway the CHP requires a DOT number for your service truck. Most service trucks or just dodge rams 3500-5500 class c license. Only seen a few semi truck service trucks that require a cdl but that’s overkill unless your always working on heavy equipment
Love your videos. Before the repairs, can you please explain the actual diagnosing and why you do the repairs you do? thank you
@peydayproductions 10-4 buddy! Glad you enjoyed 😉

I Love your videos! You motivate me to go on my own! What kind of insurance do you need for a mobile diesel mechanic??
Good vid man
Do u work on electric machinary yet ? We here in europe are a good ways ahead of you on the future side of things.
Great video and thanks for sharing. Three questions… 1. What was the cost for parts and sending the filters to get cleaned? What did you charge the customer for labor? 2. Why is it necessary to swap an entire one box instead of doing what you just did? I guess what would be the most common reason to swap the entire one box. I hear that it can cost anywhere between 13k-16k for a complete swap these days?
Thanks for the tips, this is great content for sure. I think your vent is blowing on the speaker when your in the ride and it’s causing a crackle in the audio.
Thanks! I will check my vents, appreciate you pointing that out!
Hey man, awesome video- would you do a video on how one could get started doing their own Mobile HDM truck/buisness? Im 3rd year and having my own truck and doing work on HE is what my 5 year goal looks like currently. Thanks alot!
You figured out that quick release valve. Now you got the owner with a leaking air bag too. And he’s gonna call you back the next time he’s got a problem. That’s now a customer. Love it!! Keep it up
Do you ever fill the filter housing with fuel before you put the filter back in? I’m a diesel tech also but haven’t done it in years, but I recall filling them up then priming
@PatinaBlue62 sometimes you have to. Sometimes they will not take fuel, it will keep draining.
That’s why u r the goat 🐐!🙏🏻🫡🫵🏽
Hi Do you hire?

Hi RC what area do you service?
I’m starting as a diesel mechanic apprentice in 2 weeks after 18 years of doing bodywork. I’m doing it because I want to and because I want to learn as much as I can before I die. I love diesel trucks, so why shouldn’t I learn everything there is to know. It’s going to be humbling going from the go to do everything guy to a beginner and a low man on the totem pole. I’m also working on a career as a pilot at the same time (halfway there). I’m doing it because I want my son to see that you can do anything you want. I’m learning how little chasing money gets you in terms of enjoying life. Your channel and attitude is a good inspiration. Life is a fuckin journey not a destination. Enjoy the ride and make it a good one! You only get one shot!
@AnangryLibertarian A lot of truism in this comment! Thank you
Good luck brother. I just enrolled into Pennco Tech to learn more about Diesel Engines. I’m a owner operator with my own truck and want to learn more and start working on truck then open a shop
