  • Good at most tasks, boringly reliable. How much more can I get out of this experiment?

    Nice wrap up. I agree with almost all your points. I had set classification goals and part of that goal was to minimize distraction by sticking with one gun until those goals had been met. Otherwise I tend to get distracted on the gear/gun side of things rather than knuckling down and working the gun and gear I have until I 'git gud'. But if you're getting 10,000 rounds on a gun in 4 1/2 months you're getting a lot more trigger time than I am. Most of my practice has to come from dryfire which can be tedious thus needing the 'one gun until goal mantra' to keep me disciplined towards those goals. Since your goal is 'become a better shooter' I feel like you're getting more value from a wide range of guns, triggers, etc vs my 'become a higher classification in a sport' goal. Very cool.

    right when I moved from Mass to Texas and got my first CCW permit (as well as my first CCW a Gen5 19), you had started project one gun. So your perspective on this has had a lot of real world application for me. I now have added a gen 5 G26 to make things easier at work, and maintain commonality. I appreciate your perspective and the way you have approached the project one gun overall. Thanks man

    This has been very informative for me and challenged me to look at my own approach to gun ownership and training. Great stuff. Thank you and cheers!

    I love the G19 it was my number one for a ver long time as a versatile concealed type sidearm , the S&W MP9 took that place now . great firearm and video ,thanks .

    Thanks for your project one gun videos. I have unintentionally following your videos on this as I have been doing the same thing with my G19 Gen 5 since May 2018. My objective was to focus on one gun platform and train exclusively with just that gun to improve my shooting accuracy and combat handling for defensive shooting. Over the months of both live fire and dry fire, my fundamentals have improved significantly with this bone stock G19. I’ve shot the snot out of this gun and decided to pick up a second G19 as a backup. I agree that you do reach a point of diminishing returns over time and now look at other guns for competitive and fun shooting. But still stay consistent with my EDC for training. Thank you.

    I decided to put the same trigger on all my glocks for familiarity. I put a flat trigger, polished bar and a Glock 5lb dot connector. I can shoot several different models and know what the trigger is going to feel like. Works for me.

    Love mine....It's taken a back seat to my P10C but you can't go wrong with Glock

    I'm glad you brought up the trigger. I've had the range experience with my 19x. The trigger has gotten worse over time. It's not terrible, but even hand polishing the surfaces on the trigger bar, connector, and striker block didn't seem to have much improvement the way it had on all previous generations.

      Aha! I'm not crazy after all! It physically doesn't make much sense but it's not nearly as smooth as out of the box G5 triggers.

    Good video as always. Obviously you prefer to shoot the G34 over the G19, but what about the G19x & G45? Have you shot either side by side with the G34?

    Great perspective. We sure have gleaned from your vids. Thanks for covering ground for all of us. You may have already answered this question in your M&P Compact videos, but do you believe an apex trigger is worth it in the 2.0. I have the original M&Pc from 2014 & the 2.0 full size. The 2.0 is noticeably improved. Will the apex better the trigger enough to merit it's cost. Thank you again.

    • @jhelmsing
      @jhelmsing  5 лет назад

      In the 2.0 (and I'm going to get a lot of flack for saying this) no, it is not necessary. I usually just put the Apex sear in those if I want a lighter trigger and that is more than enough of a change... Almost too light.

    Good vid. My g5 is the same. Trigger is a little rougher after about 4000 rds. Not terrible but a little rougher.

    Im thinking this guys needs are met a little better with a 17, since its still concealable but u get more for competitions? Tho id just stick good magazine extensions to my 19 and make the 15 rounders 20 or use a 17 mag with a good extension. (Dont cheap out on the extension, the cheap ones loosen up too quickly...)

    What's the best way to deal with an IWB when you're in a public restroom stall to avoid it being visible while taking a dump, let alone avoid the IWB from possibly falling all the way down to the floor and exposing all your gear?

    • @jhelmsing
      @jhelmsing  5 лет назад

      I don't know about others, but I take the entire holster and gun off together and place it somewhere preferably visible to me (railing, TP dispenser, or last resort back of the toilet) I have a gun on me 99% of the time, so it's unusual for me to feel 'normal' without it and run the risk of leaving it, but beware: this happens A LOT, especially with plain clothes LEO'S so definitely DO NOT walk out of that stall without gunning up again.

    When you mention accuracy, are you referring to the mechanical accuracy of the gun or how accurate you are with it?

    • @jhelmsing
      @jhelmsing  5 лет назад

      I don't ever bench rest or ransom rest the guns I shoot so accuracy out of my ✋

    • @carl-ok9gn
      @carl-ok9gn 5 лет назад

      @@jhelmsing thanks for clearing that up. just some feedback as worthless as i know you're going to consider it. if you're referring to your accuracy in reference to your skill level, it is a different thing entirely than the gun's accuracy.

    Killing Project 1 Gun halfway through because you feel like it’s a diminishing return? I feel like you’re pulling the plug because you didn’t shoot as well competitively, and blaming the gun. Of course, we’ll never know for sure, because you gave up. 🇺🇸🗽🦅🇦🇹

    • @jhelmsing
      @jhelmsing  5 лет назад

      You could just do it yourself if you aren't satisfied with how I conducted it. I saw no difference after the first few months. I got really good with it. I sat low overall time at the Glock operators course against several 17's, 34's etc., it just will not hang with competition guns comparatively speaking from my experience. It's adequate for most anything you'd want to do. It's not a challenge to carry. It's not hard to shoot. It's not a competition gun. It's reliable. I'm not sure what epiphany you expected to see here.

      J Helmsing- I was here to see the results of your finished project. I thought it was an outstanding idea. I thought you conducted the project well, I’m just disappointed you didn’t see it through. Best of luck. 🇺🇸🗽🦅🇦🇹
