People are going to misunderstand this. Chris is completely detached from the outcome. In sales, the first thing you’ll learn is to quickly disqualify your prospects. This is SO on point.
@@evheniydan My best guess that, in like most relationship building, you'll be faced with a lot of rejection or come across many barriers that are too high to overcome, so it's important to develop a realistic perspective when approaching business prospects. Sometimes the distance between you and your clients goals are insurmountable.... sometimes saying no, or disqualifying your oppurtunity with the prospective client, will make way for more fruitful business in the future. Maybe the client will discover their price assessment was unreasonable and approach you later with a better offer. =)
@@evheniydani work in a car sales for about 1 year and a half, there are times when prospect is just being a prospect and not moving into 'closing' stage. They just wanna gauge your product, price, and they are just interested in your product. The key word here is 'want' not 'need'. Because for me no matter how much you explain your A B C to the prospect, if they dont need your product then they'll not buy. Like chris demonstrated in the video, chris is out of scope from the woman budget. And chris isnt bothered by it, simply because he was having this 'youre not my target market' mindset.
I work as a sales person before, and disqualifying prospect saves you time and energy. Some customers will not give you a "no" but keep asking for a lower price. You'll end up trying to compromise to a customer that end up not buying anyway. So if you can cut them off, you can save months of your time and use your time to approach other paying customers instead.
100% correct. Once you understand your craft and what you should charge you won’t want to waste time on cheap customers. Working for cheap people is the most expensive mistake in business
+1 on what everybody's pointing out: The roleplay is definitely poor here. No professional talks to their leads that way. The crux of it is indeed just throughout. Nonetheless, the tone was in poor taste.
I think it's important to be upfront about what you accept. Having been in the marketing industry for 2 years, I no longer stand it when a client tells me that "you'll gain experience from this work." Any messaging like that, and that's it. In some cases, it may be true, but being underpaid is not in my personal interest. I love your content! Others might be on Netflix, but I'm binge-watching your content here. Amazing education!
Normally I'm with you but on this occasion, not really! The delivery of your words felt wrong. It just came across as rude. "come back to me when you're ready" Really!! "..I've put too much energy and effort. I've done too much training in my life.." Again, really!! "So that's the door, thank you very much" REALLY!! I get you want to filter out the time-wasters but would you really say those words and speak in that manner to a potential customer?
Probably because many customers aren't straight up when talking about money, just playing games. "Customer, I don't want to waste your time, please don't waste mine."
Apart from the door bit (which I think he enjoys saying in his role plays but maybe not IRL 😄) I don't find his words rude. She's started saying his price range was ridiculous, he's only explaining why it isn't and doesn't close the door! If she manages to find the money, she'll know she can still count him as an option :)
Yes I would. She knew her budget and she was firm on it why even waste his time setting up a meeting when she knew she wasn’t willing to pay more. We’re grown adults if you want a certain type of car your going to save the money and purchase it.
No woman who wants to buy something from a stranger, would say "is ridiculous" they would probably say it is a bite expensive. And no client would come back when you say save more money for my service, they will probably find one for a cheaper price. You have to convince people to buy immediately.
I thought you were going to refer her to someone who can work with that budget and in the future when they are in a stage to afford you they might come back to you. Isn't that what you said in a video last week
Feeling disrespected because of a lack of funds, AND THEN actually being disrespectful “There’s the door.” I would be grateful I didn’t work with him. You can have experience but attitude says everything. I would have recommended someone within their budget and collected a small commission from someone who had the time and was eager to work.
“You just lost a customer for life!” She never was going to be a customer. You were never going to be a customer. Also I can tell you’ve never done high ticket sales when you comment this. This is what I charge. If you drove here in a BMW trying to get a deal you’re either A. Holding out of me trying to get as cheap a deal as you can or B. Terrible with your money. Both are people I’d avoid.
$1500 might be all someone has for a logo design and it’s entirely possible to produce a logo for $1500, that will look great and work well for its intended purpose. They just won’t get $5k-$10k worth of design work.
Glad you got the point instead of nit-picking like others commenting here. This is taken from a role playing session from a longer video, do it's not meant to be super realistic, but to show how not to undervalue yourself
To be fair, if you are starting a new business, you probably shouldn't spend 10k on a logo. Like, how much money are you investing in your business to get it started? 10k would probably be a good chunk of your entire budget. This is just a case of the wrong designer for this client, go get that 1500 logo, that will be great for your new business.
This is one of those preachy things Chris says during the roleplay but doesn't work with real life nuances. Clients wont play your sales bait that easy. Nor will they answer every question the way you anticipate beforehand. This went too much in favour of making a point rather than being realistic
That's great... But what when we first pitch our clients to work. In that case how could we say we our rates are high and we are not ready to work with u
This is why I charge people to talk to me I’m busy working on other clients work and personal projects and everytime I stop dealing with clients who aren’t serious or have set budgets they don’t want to go over. It kinda slows me up I try to keep it as smooth and clear as I possibly can.
I know this is supposed to be a gotcha moment but it comes off as extremely rude and condescending when phrased the way this video suggests. I really REALLY hope no one takes this short as serious advice.
Why people are not understanding the essence of the video you want to get paid for your skills so you have to or you must work to the clients who are able to pay for your skills you just have to skip clients who are cheap just as shown in video don't be afraid to loose client you'll try reaching 1000 cliets you'll close 10 but that 10 will pay you 10000$ so you won
If this wasnt scripted id be pretty upset with how he delivered the news that he wouldnt be able to work with me. Gotta work on them bedside manners lol.
No body say hey I'd love to work with you. Lol they call me doesn't even say hi just ask how much is your service. It gave them few choices and a price range. They're like damn OK bye
It's all attitude. If they don't say hi then I make them say hi. If they still don't say hi then I'm the one that says "bye". I don't like working with tight-fisted jerks. Choose your clients wisely
This guy’s demeanor is sooooo condescending. Probably loses tons of customers because of that. There’s the door?? Lol. I understand being confident in your price, but wow that is insufferable. What car did you drive in here? Sweet lord, this guys on another planet
When I try it:
"What kind of car did you drive here today?"
"'89 Nissan Maxima."
Damn, now what?
Then jump to the conclusion. If you are a BMW tell them you are not in their league, like he said at the end.
The poor Maxima 😂
Checkmate.
😂
Now u say "dayum homie you broke as fuu--"
"What kind of car did you drive here today?"
"The bus"
😅
“it should be back outside in 15-20minutes . thank you for stopping by today.”
I agree with 100% ‘I put too much time in my training to accept less’
Can’t you just say, to make it sound more polite, “Maybe you’re just looking for a designer that is at a different level.”
'That's fine, go save some money!' LOL
Real talent is exceptional! Always pay for something that last. Cheap never last! Point!
Well done Chris!
Love this guy, pretty bad ass!
Lol you know damn well you could have phrased that ending better but your honesty was refreshing. It's sometimes what we wish we could say.
