I see Rory, I click.... It is that simple!! That aside, I deeply respect Rory's lack of entitlement. I love how he appears everywhere regardless of how many subscribers they have. He feels like an individual who is genuinely passionate about his work and dutiful to teach everything he knows.
I could listen to Rory all day, but I do appreciate the editing. This is actually the best platform for Rory's personality, and I've watched a lot of his wisdom.
I can see how postmodernism is an extremely convenient viewpoint for a talented marketer; and I can see how any other viewpoint would require one to say, "No," to some otherwise lucrative tasks. Extremely valuable and informative to hear his perspective on it.
I love how no matter the situation, this guy always comes across like someone just pulled the weird guy from the bus stop and strapped a mic to him. I could listen to him talk all day. xD
I remember I had the pleasure of hanging out with him after the behavioural science conference Ogilvy organises, over a decade ago. He's constantly funny, fascinating and outspoken whatever the context.
Interesting editing, almost meta at times - I can imagine that the challenges of the sound must have been immense even forgetting the issue with the lights going out!. How many camera did you use? How many retakes were there?
9:50 talking about it being easy to sub to and impossible to cancel, RUclips lighting up the Subscribe button but when unsubbing asking an extra question is quite funny.
How on eath this video still has under 100 views given this is Rory Sutherland speaking is almost blasphemous. None have demonstrated a taste for marketing/advertising quite like him, living today.
@@DonMaseven Incorrect. RUclips does not recommend solely based on channel history. Obviously other reasons but a fresh channel can hit 100k-1M views. Perhaps the title could have been marketed better, no pun intended.
You know Rory came up with the charging bar at the bottom when the lights went out and was like, this will be a great way to increase retention on the video!
Also, does he break with convention deliberately when talking to camera? Hand covering half of face, hands covering mouth etc. It seems like it's all part of the message
Guys, LOOK at the veiws, there is near 8 billions of people on earth, So this is WHY we are the top 1%, believe it or not, but anyone who read this comment and watch the video's I can guarantee you, that you're one step closer to you're GOAL! YOU CAN DO IT, JUST FALL FORWARD INTO YOU'RE GOAL CONSTANLY!🎉
His book, Alchemy, is a must read. You really do need a slow way (e.g. reading a book) to absorb all Rory has to offer. He’s too quick in interviews to be able to fully understand everything he says. The book stops time for you to actually learn his mindset and let your own mind cement the new connections.
The point made about people using AI almost like a personal assistant is already happening for those at the sharp end of it's adoption. My default behavior now is to ask GPT to trawl the internet and shortlist product type x for me, often based on some criteria like budget etc.
After reading a brief description of this man’s history, I’m starting to think he might actually be the real life Don Draper, especially working with companies like Mcann and Ikea
If every one of the approximate 165 billionaire gave £0.5 billion to the Treasury we could solve the UK debt deficit, child poverty, homelessness and so much more. That would be a nice way for billionaires to give back to the community and help the country
Can someone help me understand in layman's terms the sentence Rory says; "There is no objective value attached to anything that's independent of your perception"? I need to wrap my brain around that one.
Basically it is your perception that creates the value of anything you see or decide to want , I like KFC because I perceived it to be tastier/more valuable than McDonald’s. another thing is money is a universal agreed upon thing which inherently has no value other than we all agree it does to exchange other things for it.
I and many people I know have a really negative opinion of the marketing industry, due to the countless adverts that get pushed to you either online or on TV, that have false or misleading information. And if there is a disclaimer correcting what was just shown or said, there'll be small white text at the bottom, which unless you are watching on HD you can't read anyway but is also on a white background.
Hate your reverse polarity idea, I like them putting their wares on a table & me choosing. How do you "contextualise" any thing if you haven't examined the competitors? They will serve me, & I will see all the possibles, in cars watches many products it IS possible to have an overview of the market & this "overload" of marketing you talk of won't change that, competitors will spring up but unless their exceptional they WILL get lost in the babble, good.
Yes yes, but no, everything is not subjective - you can not get pregnant and have a child as a born man lol That right there is what tricks a lot of people they think its all just subjective which lets them sleep at night
sometimes i think marketers are deluded into thinking they're the reason business work. But e.g. I don't choose a cafe based on some kind of weird meaningless evaluation like that. I choose a cafe based on its location, based on whether I've heard good things about it, whether they have the drinks I want, the seating I want, etc. In other words, it's about what the cafe has to offer, not some marketing gimmick. This is not up for debate. I watch my brain make these decisions every day. They are not based on how the cafe looks. How quiet it is has a way bigger affect on my decision to go there for example than any "vibe" it has. I constantly find people who focus just on marketing are missing the big picture to the point where they look deluded. They are not product people. Actual successful business owners always prioritize the product over marketing. It's what you have to offer. And obviously I don't mean just the coffee - the whole building is part of the product offering. I'm sure he knows this to some extent, but he, like many marketers, in my view are completely delusional in thinking the entire business relies exclusively on marketing. Which brings up another point - how important trust is, and how easily you can lose it by overstating things the same way Rory does. seems like a fake internet personality that doens't know anything. really not fond of his quippy pseudointellectual observations. I'm sure there are thousands of better marketers out there we're not seeing because they don't waste their time showing up on these platforms - they're too busy/don't need the exposure, etc.
Rory is a national treasure, I could listen to him all day everyday! ❤
Last point was such a mic drop
I have NEVER watched a Rory Sutherland video or even a short clip where I didn't learn something hugely valuable. This man is a gift.
I have watched literally every single bit of content with Rory Sutherlands name in the title. The man’s a national treasure.

Ever since i first saw the guy on TED, ive loved his thoughts. Genius.

Talking about electricity while his power is out, the man is pure class. Excellent video
It’s so satisfying listening to a master lay it out 😊
Love how everything he said here seemed like a reasonable and insightful answer, AND nothing he said risked alienating potential/past clients of his 😀
This man is the guru i never knew i needed. Also why can't he stop touching his face, Love you rory. x
The man knows what he's talking about. Great insight. Thanks for the share Simon/ team!
Glad you liked it!
I love his insight into why people buy and the genius stroke by San Pellegrino
It’s very interesting! 🧐
Love Rory!!
So do we Simon!

Interestingly ingenius speech.
I think ALL of those things he listed in his last answer are extremely useful for an actor

The RUclips algorithm recommends content based on *Channel History* .
New Channel = Little Channel History = Little Recommendations = Little Views
Agreed. Should be at 100k.

It's a pseudointellectual observation. It's 100% nonsense he made up to sound smart but there's no substance.

Yes! I've been watching and wondering if he is in pain or what. Those agressive forehead touches are very releatable. Thank god somebody else noticed.
What is Rory’s life experience how has he learnt all this about marketing?
He has to touch his head to connect to the information satellites for maximum knowledge.
Rorys cute of marketing is google search engine 😂
I'm tired of allowing or disallowing 900 cookies on every website.
3:26 “Their hardwired” well clearly… not well enough 😂😂

is he having an aneurism, or what's with the forehead pressure ?
See.....the number of times the word "like" is used in a dialogue is inversely proportional to the IQ of the speaker.

What are all the things around his neck? He has them in every interview.
Thought those were vapes around his neck 🤦
This annoying editing is unwatchable - It's not 2015 anymore. Stop changing the view every second! Gave up after 2 minutes.
