I used to buy fish and chips from Kasey's family shop as a young fella when hunting around Southend, South Australia. She was about 10 years my junior and even then you could tell there was something special about her. The whole of Australia is immensely proud of Kasey and her amazing musical family. That's her dad on the slide guitar. Kasey reached out to the audience and asked them to submit their phone recordings of this performance so this video could be spliced together. Probably my favorite song outside of this is Rattlin' Bones, with (now ex) hubby Shane Nicholson, which was featured in the series Hell On Wheels. One similarity occurs to me. When Trent Reznor saw/heard Johnny Cash's treatment of Hurt, he said "This is no longer my song. It belongs to Johnny." I love Eminem's song, but can't help but believe that Kasey somehow hijacked it. I'd love to know what Eminem thinks of this. I can't count how many times I've watched her video of this song or other reactors. Thanks for reacting.

Has to be the best cover of any song I’ve ever heard and that really is saying something as I’m a huge Jimi Hendrix fan and he did some awesome Bob Dylan covers among others. Led Zeppelin’s “When the Levee Breaks”, another awesome cover and Johnny Cash’s cover of “Hurt” are all examples of fantastic covers but Kasey Chambers……take a bow!

That feeling of walking the knife edge of almost giving up on yourself. Kasey tapped into that part of the lyrics, which is brilliant and delivered with such raw emotion.
I've watched her video & listened to it on Spotify literally hundreds of times (even though I picked up on it well after this was uploaded). It still hits hard, every single time. Such a great rendition. I've never been into rap, but gotta give props to Em's writing.

She's been performing in her father's band since she was 12 years old (her brother is backing vocals and her dad is on the steel guitar on stage here). She had some pop hits in the 90s but her heart and soul is Country in her own style. She wanted to commemorate the 20th anniversary of this song because she loves Eminem, and she had the time to rearrange and compose this masterpiece during lockdown. She is showing so much emotion because she has lived this to a degree as well. She is now 48 years old and a mother of three. This recording is the first time it was ever performed live and was done at the end of the concert. They thought it went well, so they used the recording from the sound desk and asked their fans who were in attendance to provide any footage they had to composite this one together. While there has been no public approval from Em, she has been allowed to put this song up on Spotify without challenge.

She is much loved. When returning to her Hometown at Mt Gambier SA those attending her concert outnumbered those in the town. When she started playing one of her top hits (Am I Not Pretty Enough?) she didn’t have a chance - the audience sang it to her.

I was lucky enough to see her play this song live a couple of weeks ago in Melbourne, it was a daytime concert with fewer band members so not as dramatic, but still totally awesome!
