Eminem brought the lyrics but Kasey brought the emotion. Her interpretation and arrangement of the song is brilliant. The best cover ever. Absolutely loved it.
I used to buy fish and chips from Kasey's family shop as a young fella when hunting around Southend, South Australia. She was about 10 years my junior and even then you could tell there was something special about her. The whole of Australia is immensely proud of Kasey and her amazing musical family. That's her dad on the slide guitar. Kasey reached out to the audience and asked them to submit their phone recordings of this performance so this video could be spliced together. Probably my favorite song outside of this is Rattlin' Bones, with (now ex) hubby Shane Nicholson, which was featured in the series Hell On Wheels. One similarity occurs to me. When Trent Reznor saw/heard Johnny Cash's treatment of Hurt, he said "This is no longer my song. It belongs to Johnny." I love Eminem's song, but can't help but believe that Kasey somehow hijacked it. I'd love to know what Eminem thinks of this. I can't count how many times I've watched her video of this song or other reactors. Thanks for reacting.
I love it when reactors actually let themselves feel the emotion in this song. So many, men in particular start talking as soon as you see any emotion hit their face so they don’t have to feel it 🥰👍
I have watched so many reaction videos to Kasey singing this song and I loved yours the most. So great to see other people appreciative of our Aussie talent. And thank you for not stopping it throughout the performance! 😊
Has to be the best cover of any song I’ve ever heard and that really is saying something as I’m a huge Jimi Hendrix fan and he did some awesome Bob Dylan covers among others. Led Zeppelin’s “When the Levee Breaks”, another awesome cover and Johnny Cash’s cover of “Hurt” are all examples of fantastic covers but Kasey Chambers……take a bow!
Great reaction, thanks for not interrupting this, it still gives me goosebumps and I've watched it 70 or so times, it's probably the greatest performance I've ever witnessed.
This is absolutely the whole package. From the lyrics, to the band, Kasey's passion and the phone footage. Eminem made this song iconic, Kasey Chambers made it epic. G'day mate from Australia.
Your reaction was absolutely spellbinding - beautiful. Kasey leaves it all out there every time - just a legend. You need to check out some more of her live stuff. 'Ain't no Little Girl' - live at the Bluegrass Underground - enjoy.
Kasey tapped into the lyrics in a deeply unflinchingly raw way. The lyrics speak of grabbing for opportunity and it is an anthem of feeling hyped up and pumped up for a chance at greatness, absolutely. There is also that deep desperation in those lyrics. That feeling of walking the knife edge of almost giving up on yourself. Kasey tapped into that part of the lyrics, which is brilliant and delivered with such raw emotion.
I've watched her video & listened to it on Spotify literally hundreds of times (even though I picked up on it well after this was uploaded). It still hits hard, every single time. Such a great rendition. I've never been into rap, but gotta give props to Em's writing.
Kasey Chambers is an Australian legend: the youngest person to be inducted into the Australian Music Hall of Fame, a dozen albums and has more than 30 ARIA Awards (the AU Grammy's). She is beloved but is ignored by radio and was shunned by Sony. She's been performing in her father's band since she was 12 years old (her brother is backing vocals and her dad is on the steel guitar on stage here). She had some pop hits in the 90s but her heart and soul is Country in her own style. She wanted to commemorate the 20th anniversary of this song because she loves Eminem, and she had the time to rearrange and compose this masterpiece during lockdown. She is showing so much emotion because she has lived this to a degree as well. She is now 48 years old and a mother of three. This recording is the first time it was ever performed live and was done at the end of the concert. They thought it went well, so they used the recording from the sound desk and asked their fans who were in attendance to provide any footage they had to composite this one together. While there has been no public approval from Em, she has been allowed to put this song up on Spotify without challenge.
I appreciated the tears mate... I had them too when I watched it, and still get them. It is an incredibly emotional performance and shows so much respect to the original. Kasey however has made this song her own and I hope Eminem has watched it, if only to appreciate that respect.
You like songs that build??? Go Australia again with Cold Chisel performing Bow River from their 2003 Ringside concert. It's the best version of the song and it builds and builds.
congratulations for a beautiful honest reaction, this is what you get from australian artists, you don't get a performance you a part of a genuine experience, try listening to brother by matt corby live for like a version, i think you'll love it too
Hey bShaw, nice honest reaction man, you obviously respect Em, yet paid Kasey her dues for an amazing 'make it your own' cover of an already great song. We love her here down under and she always gives every song her everything, with that amazing, unique voice. Noted your comments about the magic of the audience singing your song back to you. If you would like a classic (Aussie) example of audience love, then you need to check out John Farnham's amazing cover of The Beatles 'Help!' - Live with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (if you haven't already, couldn't find it on your page). God bless.
She is much loved. When returning to her Hometown at Mt Gambier SA those attending her concert outnumbered those in the town. When she started playing one of her top hits (Am I Not Pretty Enough?) she didn’t have a chance - the audience sang it to her.
Great reaction mate. You should check out jimmy Barnes…another Aussie legend! Stone cold with Joe Bonamasa. Also Cold Chisel (Jimmy Barnes band) when the war is over and bow river both live from 2003
Brilliant reaction dude, you really connected with her. I have watched this performance hundreds of times and yours was one of the best reactions to it. I was lucky enough to see her play this song live a couple of weeks ago in Melbourne, it was a daytime concert with fewer band members so not as dramatic, but still totally awesome!
one of the best reactions I've seen...You listened....you felt...you were moved to tears. I have seen this so many times but always feel the same amazement of just how Kasey brought it to life. Eminem would be proud of her I'm sure. Like & Subbed Love from Australia. ps if/when you do another Kasey Chambers song..try "Ain't No Little Girl" either live or her official video is so awesome as well.
I've watched a gazillion reactions to this video. Your reaction was up there with the best of them, for me. So good I'vejust now subscribed to your channel. Thanks! x Linda / LindyLu from Oz
Would you react to some Eminem. I started my Eminem Journey through lockdown and i am ashamed to say I had not given him a chance or even listened to his lyrics! Some songs I think you would like is…. Leaving Heaven Castle and Arose - it’s two songs but you must listen to both together. Cleaning out my closet ❤❤

It was my pleasure! I am completely blown away at her presence! Can’t wait to hear more! Take care my friend 👍!
As I understand it, he approved her monitising it on Spotify, so I guess that means he's heard it and approves 👍😎😊
@@gordowg1wg145 Yup. He did.
@@danisaksson3214He doesn't own the rights to the song though......
Beautiful human reaction brother. Cried right along with you.
I love it when reactors actually let themselves feel the emotion in this song. So many, men in particular start talking as soon as you see any emotion hit their face so they don’t have to feel it 🥰👍

Definitely one of my favorites now!
How not to get moved by this performance !!!!! It cuts you through ❤❤❤❤❤
This is absolutely the whole package. From the lyrics, to the band, Kasey's passion and the phone footage.
Eminem made this song iconic, Kasey Chambers made it epic.
G'day mate from Australia.
I’m absolutely blown away by Kasey and the band mates!
Exquisite reaction. Keep it real, dude. I love your raw honesty and vulnerability.
Thank you 💙!
Em does a fairly good job of covering Kasey's song!
I can't get enough of that cover!! Now for some strange reason I have a craving to go re-listen to ...And Justice For All lol
Who knew that what Lose Yourself needed was a lap steel and power chords on a banjo?!
😀 Right?!?!
Your reaction was absolutely spellbinding - beautiful.
Kasey leaves it all out there every time - just a legend.
You need to check out some more of her live stuff.
'Ain't no Little Girl' - live at the Bluegrass Underground - enjoy.
I most definitely will be checking out her other material! Incredible!

Kasey Chambers is a phenomenon!
Great reaction - her dad is the one rocking out on the slide guitar 👍
So awesome!

Slide player in the hat is her father
