Also the problem why Rudy never found out about his missing family is that he never really visited the adventurer's guild after they registered for the first time, he had to use other methods to get back to the main continent. That's why he never read Paul's message. It was just bad luck that he found out only to this point.
Also why Geese said "you should visit the adventurer's guild".
Also through Rudy perspective because he was teleported in the centre of where the beam started. He doesn’t have the idea of how massive the disaster was. If he was a few villages away then he would have seen the beam of light coming towards him. Giving him the perspective of how big of a disaster this really is. The character writing in this show is amazing
@@JazzcrankMYFHC Yeah, there’s a lot of detail to everything. If you were on the epicenter of a disaster you are just not aware of how big that disaster actually was. Plus how could he have expected for it to be so massive to engulf an entire region.

Not going to lie if I was Rudy I would have assumed everyone was fine as well. To think that beam engulfed that many people is WILD.

Sidenote - He also didnt consider that for the same reason most kids wouldnt... His parents were fine because of course they were... They are his parents, they are powerful. Why wouldnt they be ok? Children dont really think that deeply into it. Rudy may be older on the inside but he's still really immature. He didnt think beyond his small scope of worry. He will improve and we are just starting to see him get there.

@@Evadann The difference is Rudeus actually trained in Magic since he was a toddler. We've seen his progression versus other MC's just being handed power.
@@Evadann He got nearly killed a couple of times when he met actual strong people later on. Hes OP compared to the average guy but not OP at all in the power scale of the world. Unlike some other isekai MCs that are literally the strongest being from the moment they get reincarnated.

Also, what I think Akoto meant is that in most isekais the mc gets some cheat skill from the get go while Rudeus has to learn and work for it and he is still constrained by the constraints of the world and setting.
@@Evadann He's not a creep per se. His perversion is a trauma response. He does behave in ways that are harmful, both to himself and those around him, though it is not done because "lol". If this were a female character everyone would lose their minds at how they understand her behavior but because he has a dick the dumb shits who don't take any time to understand his character hate him.
Something to keep in mind is at the time of the magical disaster, Rudeus was at the epicenter of it, and not only that, he was in the citadel of Roa, days away from Villa Buena, so it is not uncommon that he thought his family was fine
Yeah, the fight between Rudy and Paul was largely due to miscommunication but it’s easy to see how it happened. Rudy didn’t want Paul to worry so he made his journey sound like a happy adventure, but Paul is so devastated that he mistook that to be irresponsibility. I think Paul was projecting his insecurities onto Rudy. And once the fight began, Rudy usually defends himself in a verbal battle by attacking first.
Why did Rudy read the letter in Zant Port? Because he was smuggled through it and was barely in town and never in the adventures guild. He got stuck in the forrest.
Why didn’t Rudy write? He didn’t try while outside of human territory, and was just doing so now that he reached the first human inn he’s been too- until he saw what he thought was a kidnapping.
Why didn’t he search for and help others? While the chief of the Migurd tribe did mention people falling out of the sky, Rudy was at ground zero when it happened and had no clue how far it spread. Even if he realized it reached Roa, he had no reason to believe it reached Buena village or expanded all of Fitoa.
Why didn’t he realize his mom was missing or why did he think about Syphie before her? Because his dad was there. Of course she would be there. And also because he still had trouble realizing the distaste reach Buena village.
And the worst, while Rudy always acted childish, he always talked like an adult. He was extremely intelligent. He was a Saint level water mage. Paul always had trouble talking to Rudy as if he’s a child. Rudy often talked circles around Paul. Plus, the projecting Paul did on Rudy of his own insecurities. I believe Paul is beating himself up for not finding anyone. And here’s Rudy whose better then him. Why didn’t he find anyone. Despite how he talks, though, Rudy is still a child.
And then things spiraled out of control. It’s just sad. However, this leads to the next episode which is one of my favorites. I kind of wished the two episode format would have had both these episodes together. But, it does give me something to look forward to.
I remember the civil war within the Mushoku fandom when episode 16 aired. One side was siding with Paul, and one side was siding more with Rudy. Fun times lol

Rudy didn't care about anything in his past life.. which means, now he cares 1000 times more about his family and people around him.. don't forget he was bullied quite often in his middle school days he couldn't put a foot outside his room anymore.. the fact that bullies took of his clothes and hang him and took photos of him while naked of course it messes up with anyone's head.. so if you think he's selfish, you should ask yourself how is he still sane after what he's been through
If I remember correctly their is an OVA that happens in between these episodes it shows when Eris wanted to go Goblin hunting if you’re even interested in that
There is an OVA and it is required viewing. It's not optional. If you don't watch it you'll be clueless when season two picks up.

@@RestInFlames Episode 0 of the second season was produced after the second season was completed and was incredibly rushed. I don't know why you said "technically" as there is literally an episode zero and it was released first in this second season. Season one's OVA episode was released after the season was complete. It was easy to miss, I guess?, and anyone who skips it will be confused.
@@ElyonDominus Yeah I agree I almost missed the OVA completely (I later watched it) and after watching Episode 0 in the second season you can now see that they actually introduced characters in that episode in season one (like Sylphy’s new look and the princess she’s with) I don’t know why they decided to add it to the second season and not in the first oh and I know that episode 0 is in the second season and I only said technically because the actual season doest really start until episode 1 all im saying I found it odd to start season two off like that and not just keep it in season one
@@ElyonDominus Eh. When i read the light novel I missed the chapters of Eris goblin slaying b/c at started at Novel 7 but i got the gist of it. But yeah its a good episode still so i would recommend they read it so they aren't confused at first like i was when they introduce Cliff
Bro episode 16 is so damn good. That whole bar scene was so intense.
It's funny you guys bring up that Rudy has an adult mind because in this situation it shows he really doesn't think like an adult, he assumed his parents would be fine because they were grown ups and nothing bad could've happened to them.

I can understand your point where you say Rudy does not have the same point of view as he would have had in previous life but , another point to note is that his father cannot expect his 12 year old son regardless of how genius he is to put that much thought into it.

No, Paul didn't take in Ghislaine. Earlier in the anime, she said she had been trained by the Sword *God* . That's why she's so damn good.
Later on, she was in the same adventuring party as Paul.

Geese was out looking for survivors from the mana disaster - especially those close to Paul.
He intentionally got himself arrested so he could get in the cell with Rudeus - to see if he was Paul's son.
*Then* he stayed in the cells for the duration of the rainy season just to make sure he could travel back with Rudeus and look after him.

You Would Not Make It To The End Of The First Episode. Seriously!
Happy to see ya'll push through, i am generally not only anti-isekai anime but also find too much fan service pretty cringy and really pulls me out, so i avoided this anime off principal but decided to give it a chance before season 2, got hooked and ended up binging it in a couple of days. As a JRPG lover it quickly shot to one of my faves period. Our boy Rudy is trying and thats all i can ask for lmao, his growth has been great though.
I am the same. I generally just dislike isekai, because 99% are very poorly written and just a collection of stereotypical ideas, that only serve some superficial entertainment (including fanservice). Imagine my surprise, when I started reading Mushoku T. and found out is was actually really good. I ended up reading the entire webnovel, which is very unusual for me, because I never read webnovels or lightnovels. Believe me, it really is good, despite its flaws. It's genuinely the ONLY isekai that I would call a good story.
If you stick to it, you won't regret it. It will get better and better, because honestly the 1st season is actually the weakest one! Even the 2nd season is in large part buildup for what is to come (even though it is alread better than the 1st season).
this is the father of all isekai anime after all.
I mean it is an ecchi. Fan service should be expected.

just to add, he dont see the letter in the guild in Zanto port because he was kidnap by the beast people Doldia... another thing is Rudy ask for Sylphie first because he see Paul and Norn, so he think Zenith was fine too (idk if this aplly to Lillia and Aisha as well, i see someone saying this)
Two important notes:
- You should watch OVA next. It's titled "Eris the Goblin Slayer". It's canon and important for the future story. It covers what Eris have been doing in this episode 16.
- When you finish watching this season, the second season starts with Episode 0. It's also a mandatory watch.

MT is a well-written story. Some people just get the wrong impression, because they assume it's a children's show. It is not. Don't let the generic isekai premise fool you into believing, that it's intended for children or that it's generic, because neither is true.

I'll say he care about this new world even more than the old world. The problem was that he was only seeing things right in front of him, and didn't think about the things he didn't see. Like protecting Eris, coming back home money problem, living in a dangerous continent, stuff like that. Even his father saw the things first, which Rudy was unable to see cause of how far away he teleported to. Lol XD
Yeah he totally thought he was the only one teleported. So many people bashed Rudy for this, he didnt read the letter, and he never thought they were anything but safe. Also the fact that Paul would deck his 12 year old son and be a drunk crap dad(at least as far as him).. But yeah such a good episode, the next few are great, and 21 is one of my favorites of any anime and definitely of this one.

there is actually 2 perpective that are interesting here because Paul and rudy arent wrong. For Paul rudy is a genius who will save him from this crysis because he had lost hope after being to late to save people or seeing them getting enslave. Rudy was his Jesus that would answer his prayer. While on the other hand rudy had one of the worst road being teleported in the demon continent, without ruj they wouldnt have made it back in one piece. Rudy is strong that is a fact but he isnt really super Op. He had lot of hardship but keep being positive and even try to help ruj along the way. But the fact that the entire asuna got caught in the teleport really caught him off guard and now realise that his family were not where he tho he would find them . His 2 mother and other sister could even be dead by now. That really hit him hard even more when his sister saw him as a bully while he was bully hardcore in his past life. He felt disgusted by what he just did to Paul.

it's not that he doesn't care for his family it's liek he said he was focused on his task at hand keeping eris alive and getting them back to their home he naively beleived everyone was ok outside of that town he is a kid / teen so he didn't know plus he is still new to this world he has no clue what their protocols are for disasters or the like he is justa kid at this moment trying to survive and make it home

Paul was wrong to expect too much from Rudeus at his age but Rudeus had no business disrespecting Paul the way he did it
The guy who took Ghislane from the willage is The Sword God, not Paul. I dunno why they didn't tell explicitly
They do a great job showing how everything can be seen as a wrong move by each character. Between Rudy and Paul of course Paul expects far more from his kid but what 7 year old is going to accomplish finding his family and that such.
I hope they watch the second season

im glad yall starting to get into it! i know yall have trouble with rudy's ''creepiness'' but understand he never had a social life cuz he was badly bullied and hes learning to be better hes not this perfect MC from that start he was broken and now hes building himself up, but around the middle of season 2 u guys will see a totally different rudy a very polite and respectable young man.

Fun fact: The girl who wears the revealing clothing and the girl who is in like full body coverings are sisters and the way they dress is on purpose. The younger sister had some trouble with her apperance and people glaring at her and other bad stuff towards her apperance. There is more to it but in summary the older sister dresses in extremely revealing clothes to divert attention from her younger sister and to have focus on her. She is more of a bold character compared to her sister who is timid and does not really have the guts to stand up to these kinda people. Thats something i heard from another commentor while this was airing.
It's way more severe than "trouble with her appearance". The sisters got captured by bandits after the teleportation, with all the consequences. They're now dealing with it, one by hiding herself from all men, another by distracting men's eyes from her sister.
There are quite a few mentions about fates of survivors of the Fittoa Incident in the novels, the anime really glosses over a lot of dark shit.

You mentioned Goblin Slayer. I highly recommend it, but be aware, if you once quit this anime, you may take issue with Goblin Slayer. I would describe it as a story that takes place inside a D&D campaign. The goblins in it are D&D goblins, not That Time I Was Reincarnated As A Slime goblins. They are only male, they are individually weak but they swarm and murder, and they reproduce by kidnapping females of other races. There are a few tense episodes but none more so than episode 1. It sets the tone. They want you to know, this world plays for keeps, and you should HATE goblins. Episode 1 has murder, actual poisoning, mercy killing, and rape in it. None of it explicit. This is not hentai or even ecchi. But it IS emotionally charged so you know the stakes. If you can get past episode 1, you will be fine. The story is really good, so I do recommend it. And yes, Goblin Slayer does kill all goblins he finds.
Paul is not even close to be great at sword style, he is Advanced level at multiple styles but the levels from strong to weak are:

Emperor
King
Saint
Advanced
Intermediate
Beginner
Ghislaine is a sword king which make her one of the strongest sword warriors in this show.
Right? If we use this scale Paul was surpassed by his son by the time Rudy turned 5 years old. Obviously not with the sword but Rudy is a Saint tier water mage.
@@ElyonDominus Mage ranks are not really about combat though, they're about the top tier spell that a mage can cast. Technically, Rudy from Episode 2 and current Rudy are both Saint-level Water mages, but in actual combat current Rudy would flatten a company of Episode 2 Rudies without breaking a sweat.

Trauma. This entire story is about trauma and character growth. It's important to know that while he was physically far older in his past life he is about to catch up to his mental age in this world - about 14/15.
