Rudy, Eris, and Ghislaine were literally at the epicenter of the mana disaster for all they knew it was just them that got teleported and it didn't even reach the city Roa.
But from Paul's perspective his genius saint-level son did literally nothing to help, and if Rudy did help it would have increased their search ability greatly.
I gotta side with Rudy on this one he just did not and could not have known, we don't even know if Paul's message got to the demon continent so the only time he could have seen it was at the Zant Port and Rudy almost immediately got kidnapped by the beastmen and then after all of the beastmen stuff he immediately went to Millis. The one time he could have learned about it he got kidnapped and couldn't even get to the adventurers guild.
The one thing is the fact that in a year and half Rudy never thought about his family, letting them know where he is out of he is ok. It shows he just thinks of this life as a game and didn’t really harbor genuine feelings for his parents. Hope he improves on this

Yeah. One of the faults of Rudy is that he actually doesn’t think of Paul and Zenith as his parents. Not only that, if I remember, letters did get to at least Zant Port.
Of course, Paul is irrational. People were wondering where the “counter argument” was but there is truly none that could have diffused the situation. Paul isn’t running off of logic. He’s running off of grief, booze, and expectation. Rudy acknowledges himself that despite everything, he really didn’t think about it. He even prioritized Sylphy over Zenith.
They both harbor wrong, but they were both trying their best. Rudy knew his priority was to save what was in front of him in one of the harshest environments in the world. Paul’s disappointed is partially rooted in the years he spent fighting to save his friends and family.
100fucking %%%%%% bro but I don't think Paul had any right to be mad at Rudy after he asked him if he read the letter and Rudy said what letter he should have explained what the letter was about
Everything was just too raw here. The buildup, the atmosphere, the dramatic execution, the voice acting. This episode was fucking S-tier, imo, but damn I myself got really rattled up emotionally watching it. It was just too fucking good.
This honestly sucks, man. The misunderstandings were there, but there's genuinely organic and relatable. Paul truly did cross the line, but I can't find myself villainizing him any bit because there was good enough reasoning for why he was like that. Doesn't it also just suck that Rudeus is being antagonized by the very family member (Norn) that he had pledged back then to be a good big brother to? I love how stuff going on here really tie back to notable content back in the previous cour.
Well, you can understand why Paul is like that. But let's be honest, he's not very mentally strong to fall off this much and become a drunk. I guess he wanted Rudy to just show up and be like, "oh yeah i found them, we good"

@@alabhya7577 I wouldn't doubt that the manga probably had its own level of play on it, but the manga overall kinda sucks compared to both anime and LN. It's missing and compressing chunks of content here and there and comes off as more so a comedy fantasy instead of something that feels visceral and real.

I just realised that when Geese had said that Rudeus' name sounds familiar a few episodes ago, it was because he saw the message posted by Paul, and that's why told him to visit the Adventurer's Guild
Something I don't see mentioned is that Rudeus is dealing here with something he never thought he would. Expectations.
He was a genius from birth in the eyes of the people around him. He was a Saint level mage at age 5. As Paul mentioned in one of the first few episodes it didn't feel like they got to be a parent to him. He was just that amazing, remember that people don't know he is a reincarnation, imagine what Rudeus must seem like to the people who saw him grow up?
Even if Paul understands it is unfair, deep down he hoped Rudeus, as amazing as he is, was on top of everything, so he was extremely disappointed to find out how clueless he was.
Expectation is a price that comes with great skill, or in Uncle Ben's words with great power comes great responsibility. People expect the extraordinary from those who are extraordinary.
I completely agree with you. I also love the fact that Rudy in his previous life didn't have any expectations, because he didn't posses any talent. In his heart, he dreamed for talent and possibilities, and the universe granted him that wish. Till this point, he only encountered respect and admiration for his actions (greatly shown by how the monkey man (Geese), saying to Rudy that he has done enough). But now, he sees the price that comes with talent and skills - expectations. He feels the weight of these expectations, he couldn't understand his father's glance because he had never seen anyone to put so much hope in him, a jobless, 34 year old loser.
Uncommunicated expectations is unfair. on top of that Paul was gaslighting Rudy... I think it's just not a good look. family squabbles always looks like this, and looks like both sides are wrong. the truth is, both sides are emotionally distraught and said things they regret. that's what we witnessed in this episode. Rudy defending himself doesn't make him a bad guy at all in this situation. everyone just expects people to let others be a punching bag when it comes to family. we talk about high self-esteem and when we see it, we look down upon people who know their self-worth. Rudy understood clearly that unfair expectations were set on him, and defended himself.
NGL, this episode hit hard. I could feel the emotions. From Paul’s perspective Rudy just been fucking around but from Rudy perspective he didn’t know how far the disaster spread and if other’s got teleported so he didn’t think about it. This was awesome
I think it's more Paul being in a bad mindstate and being unreasonable cus it's a bit silly to think Rudy's been "fucking around". Considering where he was. But yeah, Rudy did try to be positive rather than negative when telling the story of his journey. Meeting Paul after so many years, want to be on a happy note rather than the opposite.

This episode reminds me of how Paul told he’s wife that he should stop jumping to conclusions and listen and understand Rudy on Ep. 3, he did that but still jumped and not fully explain to Rudy.

Actually he did try listening at first. But Rudy was telling all the happy parts of the story like having an OP Superd on their team and getting demon eyes. So Paul took the story at face value, saw how excited and happy Rudeus was and got angry. Then he gave Rudy some more opportunities to explain through questions but Rudeus had no explanation and instead resorted to accusing Paul of cheating. So he snapped

So Paul probably assumed Rudy knows how widespread the blast was by the last 1.5 years. But Rudy never asked anyone about this disaster in his journey so he doesnt know anyone other than him Eris and Ghislaine was hit. Their misunderstanding is mainly rooted in this disconnection
Yeah but Rudy should've looked for his family instead of focusing on everyone else's problems. He assumed that not everyone got teleported and simply focused on taking Eris home. He should've asked around but instead he prioritized the wrong goals. I get that he's a kid and doesn't know any better but we know the truth. He's a full grown man in a child's body and Paul has noticed his heightened maturity. Therefore, he holds him to higher standards. They're both at fault here, it's unfair to assign the blame to Paul alone. Paul wanted genuine contrition from Rudy but he chose to shift the blame instead by accusing Paul of enjoying himself when he's clearly the worse for wear.
That’s exactly why this happened. Paul didn’t learn his lesson the first time around, so it happened again. Now, he *has* learned the lesson. That’s how Paul is.
It makes sense Rudy would be worried about sylphy over his mom. His mom is an experienced Adventurer and she is smart. Sylphy meanwhile is a kid. Priorities.
He had also just seen Norn, which could make him assume the family was around.
Reminder not everyone is a fighter
There are supports as well which can fight that affectively.
Rudy also mentioned his mother and the maid when he was talking about the boob lady, Paul should have said something about Rudy's mom. If i was Rudy i was probably going to also think about Silphy first too and think my mother was ok. Paul was literally hiding information to just make Rudy feel bad even if it wasn't intentional.
Then what about the other sister, she is a baby too and i think rudy don't care about his parents as much as we think cause he is a middle aged man in a kids body, we might see a matured rudy from here on

So in case you guys are a little confused about the time of the story. Norn (Rudeus's little sister) is around 4 years old. Rudeus was sent to the Boreas Family when he was 8, and then 2 years passed and he turned 10. 1.5 - 2 more years pass since the fitoa incident and from the adventures. So Rudeus is currently 11-12 and Eris is 14 (soon to be 15.)

Paul ounce again jumps the gun. Very similar to the earlier episode where Rudy stops the bullying. No matter Paul's mental state he just found a member of his family and he responded like a child to a child.
I get why Paul is angry, hell you can see the stress and exhaustion on his face, but you just found out that one more member of your family is alive and well. Yet, No Hug, no “Oh my god I’m glad you’re alive”. How the f*ck was he supposed to know the teleportation reached that far, dude had his priorities to clear first.
Anxiety can make your stomach churn. Extreme ones can make you throw up.
I'm with Rudy on this one. He had no idea the teleportation affected other people and endured many hardships on his journey, but Paul chooses to gaslight him and make him the bad guy.

Paul didn’t gaslight him. With the way Rudy told his story by leaving out some of the struggles it is only natural that Paul would come to the solution that he was just fucking around.

He assumed that Rudy would have seen his letter, he also assumed that Rudy had known what the radius of the blast was and that it affected their village and continued to villainize him for his ignorance without even attempting to get clarity. I see both sides of it, but to say he wasn’t antagonizing Rudy is wrong.
@@Reanimatedyt Facts, Paul didn't even bother to explain the actual situation with Rudeus, and instead decided to argue with him. It was only till after Rudy caused a scene that Paul actually explained what happened.
Paul spending a year looking for his family, rudy not knowing what happen to them and rudy realization of what could have happen to his family during that time make him sick... after all the thing he saw during his journey, im sure anything could have happen to them

About the message board you guys were talking about. The message board Roxy and them took the message from was where Rudues and Eris were originally in ROA before the teleportation. They don't have good communication so they put the messages up around guilds that were close by, but Rudy was teleported across the entire world basically with an ocean between them as well so the message would never arrive to the demon continent since its so far away and 10x more dangerous than where he was from. The anime doesn't do the best of jobs showing the complete distance Rudy and them have traveled (imo), but the distance they have covered is pretty absurd for the situation they were in. It would probably be more understandable if they ever show a map of the world.
The reason he threw up was he was so stressed out by everything that happened recently. The magic he used wasn't much.

This was a great episode but my only issue is that I wish that they did a little bit better job showing how sullen and absolutely defeated Rudy looked after his interaction with Paul. In the manga, Rudy was absolutely broken and his eyes were empty. Also in my opinion, it looked like Rudy got over it a lot faster than he did in the source material.

My first experenice with mushoku tensei was the manga, and I recently started the LN. These couple of chapter ripped my heart out.
I hope they give next episode some time to Pauls POV because I think that would be quite important.
Also some anime/manga difference, I am sad a scene between Geese and Rudy got cut, basically they are in the cart and talk. Geese acknowledges that Rudy has been through a lot and Rudy tears up a little because of it. While him and Geese have a friendly hug, he hopes he can hug his parents like this when they meet again.
I really wanted to see this scene animated when I read the manga I could feel the emotions and I wanted to see how well it was executed
God, the anime did a great job adapting this scene, I loved it! It’s not perfect, but no adaptation ever is. Can’t wait for the next episode!😁

Rudy vomited because of the thought of him and Paul talking again. It doesn't have anything to do with his mana being exhausted
"Does he know the scale of the disaster?" He was a few miles outside of Roa when it hit the center of the city. The wave extended to several hundred miles. The map comparison gets wonky without a scale bar, but if we take the distance he was teleported as it was in the text (Paris to Las Vegas over the Pacific Ocean), then the scale of the disaster would've encompassed Nevada and then some.
Buena was a day's ride away from Roa, some 80 miles.
Very emotional episode. When I watched it I felt scolded along with Rudy

have you been emotionally hurt in a level that you just have to puke? Rudeus got into an verbal and phisical fight with his biologica father. This is heavy, he is depressed, so he puked. Imagine fighting with your own father like that. you must feel like shit. That is not a magic drawback, it was emotional hurting and its real
Not to the point of throwing up, but definitely uneasy in the stomach.
He is more of reminded of his situation in his past life which is his biggest trauma and feel.
Its him realizing the gravity of the situation that he did it again and put himself in a similar situation.
That's why he felt this one to the point of puking.

Paul is right to a certain degree. But Both knew nothing of each other's circumstances until they met again and both did their best so neither could be blamed.
look at it through Paul's point of view after hearing everything reudus told him about his adventure and the things he did, you can't blame him to have expectations. He didn't even give a slight THOUGHT about his family and to the possibility of catastrophe effecting his village.
What made the situation worse was reudes accusation of infidelity in a mocking tone, and from the looks of Paul he's been through a lot so it pulled a nerve and his concern of sylphi than over his own mother didn't help.
Unfortunately Paul was just too emotionally unstable and hung over to look at things from Rudy's perspective while Rudy was too excited to be reunited with Paul that his stories sounded like he was on an extended adventure which Paul took offense to.
Keep in mind that his family's village was really far away. Rudeus had no reason to believe that such an enormous mana disaster was even possible, why would he suspect that his family would be caught up in it when they were half a country away from where he thought the disaster was?
@@CyberJellos but in my opinion it's also Reasonable to make the assumption that the mana disaster could have effected an wider area. I don't see why he couldn't weigh up the possibility

its been about 5 years since Rudy went off to tutor Eris so he hasnt seen his family since then, his little sisters were only a few months old then
when he threw up it was kinda reasonable and realistic too he probably had an anxiety attack and was so broken down i had that too feeling like i wanna puke having anxiety like that from when somethings happend to me
paul aint wrong here but i think he kinda forgot that its not just rudy adventuring freely he also was strong enough to go back to the town with humans in it he had that goal but man i cant blame anyone here rudy and paul are both side to side not wrong nothing to be angry about fr!

i think the most unfair part of Paul rant is the fact that rudy was like victim 01, since he was on ground zero there was literally no way he could seen the scale at all, Paul was pretty much demanding a level of hindsight that was impossible for him to have

Damn everybody saying they understand Paul but I don’t understand pauls perspective at all, he should be crazy happy to see his son after so many years, alive again.
I was on Rudy's side until Paul explained what was going on. And I'm saying they're both at fault.
Like I understand why Paul is the way he is. Both of his wife, maid, second daughter, and most of the village where he lives. Are missing, some dead, some enslaved.
And they way Ruby explained it made it seem like a happy adventure, not a struggle. Even in the part of the episode where Rudy explains is dubs in happy music with Rudy smiling the entire time.
Yes, Paul shouldn't have immediately started hating on Rudy. He's Paul's only son and he can't even crack a smile. When he's found after a year and a half when the rest of his family his missing. You'd think he'd be a little glad his son came back unscathed and unharmed, unlike the rest of this village.
But think about this, when Paul asked why didn't you look for any of the village or something along those lines. Rudy's only response was I didn't think about it. And despite being 10 Rudy has demonstrated to be a very above intelligence child who's very clever if a bit goofy at times. Ruby is the manager of his entire team dispite being 10.

I feel like Paul was in the wrong here, he expected too much from Rudeus and even if he was actually indeed an adult in the past life, in terms of experiences in this world he's just a kid. That kid already had to return safe from an barely habitable continent while keeping another kid safe as well. Paul wasn't even happy he was okay he just blamed him. You think he'd learn to see Rudeus' pov by now than jumping to conclusions and damaging their relationship. Rudeus simply didn't encounter the message and it couldn't be helped.
Yeah guess Paul is wrong to have high expectations on his SUPER HUMAN GENIOUS son. Sorry man, but Rudy is NOT a normal kid. We know he is a reincarnator and to everyone else hes mature beyond years and seemingly capable of doing everything without much effort. Now imagine someone like that not sparing a single thought towards his family and being so disconnected he cant read a damn notice in a board. Remember to everyone hes a super human, we do know hes just a regular dude that reincarnated. Everyone else just thinks he was born perfect pretty much, so people have HUGE expectations on him.
