For clarification about the eye (this is skipped content): Kishirika didn't see Rudy's mental form (his old self), she used a eye that sees the flow of mana and was disgusted because of his large mana pool, saying that it's even bigger than the demon god Laplaces
    Edit:
    More clarifications:
Geese told us last episode about a legend how the man who founded Milis, Saint Milis, made the road they are walking on with a single swing of his sword. That's why the path looks cleaved.
Also, after Rudy got off at Zant port he had to immediately go and rescue Ruijerd, and after that he got captured by the beast people, he didn't have the time to go to the adventurers guild, just bad timing all around.
Another thing to think about is the radius of the teleportation itself, Rudy never asumed that Buena village was caugh in the explosion because of how far away they were. Rudy traveled with a carriage from Buena to Roa within 6-7 hours, knowing that a 2horse carriage goes 3-4 miles per hour thats around 24-28miles (38-45 kilometars). That would mean that the explosion went 28+miles in range which is more than 7x the size of a nuke.
And Rudy was quite LITEARLLY infront of the explosion when it happened, so he never assumed it would go that far.

I do feel Rudy was at fault for not sending a letter to either Eris's family, his family, or to Roxy in 1.5 years. That's a long time to not let either group know what happened to you guys and even Eris is at fault for apparently not thinking of trying to reach her family. Unless Rudy was still abiding by Paul's unreasonable rule of not making contact with the family, lol.
The beginning of this episode had him acknowledge not remembering to send a letter in that span of time and only thought of doing it in this continent? Maybe communication was hard to use in the Demon Continent but as an anime-only, it didn't seem like that was a problem and was simply a case of Rudy just not trying to communicate with his or Eris's family, for some reason. Also, he knows that Ghislaine was also transported but in the anime, they didn't try to look for her.
Another issue is that Rudy not only meets his dad and even if he assumed that his mom and the others were fine with Paul, why didn't he ask of their well-being before and after his disagreement with Paul? He was even gonna leave this city out of depression without ever asking how his other family members were doing. Besides these issues that Rudy should have thought about, I don't think Rudy was at fault in any way.

The thing about Paul is that he felt like Rudy would have cared just as much about his family than even he did. He knew that Rudy was a prodigy and basically expected more out of him. It doesn’t excuse his behavior, but Paul has been through a lot, and Rudy is the first person he would have expected to know about what happened since he was at the center of it the day the disaster occurred, and he ended up taking his dissatisfaction out on Rudy. Both parties arguments are justified, albeit through a lot of miscommunication.

According to the book and from the previous episodes, Rudy was transported to the Demon continent, which was much worse than his father’s location he was transported. Rudy would have become chips (or Pizza bites) for monsters that were more stronger than him. Let’s just teleport Rudy’s father into the demon continent and see what Rudy’s been through.

    • @Qopa
      @Qopa 3 года назад +81

It's more justified on Rudy's part since not only is he like a literal 10 year old looking kid, hes been teleported to one of the worst continent in this world's isekai. This is also his first time venturing outside of his home, which he feared before, and being able to stay alive was impressive for an inexperienced kid like Rudy. Spent a lot of time saving people who wouldve their lives taken by kidnappers, and is trying to make sure to send Eris back home safely.
By this time though, Lilia and her daughter has been enslaved and Zenith is... well, her fate is very grim. Although his dad doesnt know of it yet. But is this Rudy's fault? His dad here actually put the entire blame on Rudy when Rudy literally was trying really hard to make money to survive as an adventurer.

    • @zkeletonz001
      @zkeletonz001 3 года назад +50

I can't agree with that. Paul should know Rudy well enough to know that even though he's very smart, sometimes he can also be pretty blind to some things. He's also inexperienced, so expecting him to be able to look out for himself and get home safely all while also doing everything Paul wanted him to be doing, after he was literally teleported across the world to a completely alien environment, is more than Paul has any right to expect. Paul being drunk there shows he's probably spent a good amount of his time in that state lately, so to go off on Rudy while that's what he's been spending his time doing shows his hypocrisy. It also shows that he can't face up to the fact that he hasn't been able to find his family so he's avoiding having to deal with that with booze. So what does he do as soon as Rudy shows up? He takes all that self loathing and turns it on Rudy, instead of just being glad that he's alive. He also went way over the line to accuse Rudy of not writing just to keep Eris to himself. Let's face it, the only reason he would think that is because its something he might have done when he was younger. Rudy crossed a line too, but only after Paul escalated things. As far as anyone knows, Paul is the adult and Rudy is just a kid, but Paul was the one acting like a kid and putting adult expectations on Rudy.
And please do not respond with any information from the source material.

Pretty much. The earliest Rudy would have been able to see the message was in Wind Port after Roxy and her party made it there. But Rudy was bedridden due to getting his demon eye and right afterwards they found the smuggler to Zant Port.
In Zant port where there was already a posting Rudy went to find a hotel then he immediately went to collect Ruijerd which led to the whole beast tribe segment. Which also took place during the rainy season so they would be waylaid in the forest for 3 months.
Paul likely assumes that Rudy either arrived on the millis continent after the rainy season ended and immediately went through the firest or stayed in Zant port until it ended so in his eyes Rudeus should have seen the message.
By the time Rudy reaches Millishon it has been more than half a year since they arrived on the continent. Messages were already making their way through the demon continent at this point.

Roxy took off almost immediately for the demon continent and only arrived when Rudeus was abt to leave, aka around 1 year of traveling. Which meant that the notice/news of the disaster only arrived at most a few months before that event. First off, Rudeus, Ghislaine and Eris were at the epicenter of the transportation so Rudy had no reference on the scale of the spell.
Then we have one of several of Rudy's character flaws, he retold his journey to his father as some grand adventure and omitted a lot of the stuff that'd make Rudy look bad. Then when faced with negative reception he switched to his cynical rebuttal mode and on top of that he doesn't read the room - we even get flashbacks to when he gets bullied, something we haven't seen since Roxy. Rudy also never got a chance to visit any guilds after leaving the demon continent since he was kidnapped by the beast people.
On the other hand we have Paul who sees Rudy as an adult with rational thinking and can take care of himself, but omits the fact that he's still just a child. Paul being flawed, both in nature and having lost his wife, maid and child, unconsciously idolizes Rudy and puts hopes that Rudy would have found one of them.
Really shitty situation that stems from Paul's and Rudy's natural chemistry of not being able to communicate and understand another's perspective - it's even symbolic when Paul wants Rudy to learn the sword but Rudy is a mage.

I think the big problem is Paul knows how incredible Rudeus. From a young age Rudy has shown he is extremely intelligent and emotionally intelligent. He even manipulated situations clearly to patch their family together (something Paul was the only one to know of). Rudy also is an unbelievably powerful mage as well as an ok swordsman. Paul probably wasn't that worried about Rudy because he had so much confidence in him. He also probably built this up in his mind through his trauma, that Rudy being so intelligent would be helping on his side too. I think the big thing is Rudy being a showman described his journey as very carefree, and all Paul's hopes of his prodigy son pulling off miraculous stuff was dashed. Now Paul is in the wrong more so, specially since he hit Rudy. Rudy had no way of knowing initially that others were effected besides the three of them... But over the year and a half you would think he would of asked around, atleast about Ghislaine for Eris's sake. He has no idea if they've been enslaved, being tortured, raped, or killed by now. That shit is hard man. Especially since he's no doubt heard of what happened to those who've been enslaved or encountered other unfortunate incidents, hearing those things would just make him imagine the worse for his family. There was one time when my girlfriend hasn't come home even though it was very late and she's not answering my texts or calls, and when she finally answered the call, another man with rough voice answered and asked "who are you?" and when I said "who are YOU"? He hung up and turned off the phone. Turns out that my gf, along with other passengers of the bus she was riding in got held up and the robbers took their phones. So many thoughts raced through my mind that time and it was only one night. Imagine that kind of same thing happened to Paul but its 10x worse and its been 1.5 years. If you already know any future events please write "spoilers" before commenting. Thank you for reading and I love this community! Peace!
    (After Rudy’s party)
    1. Rudy’s family is gathered in their home. Lilia, the family’s maid and mother of Aisha, was going to give something in a box to Rudy for his tenth birthday. She mentioned, "It’s something that Master Rudeus treasured dearly." The show may play it off as joke and reveal it’s Roxy’s panties that he stole or something, but I hope it’s something more than that.
    2. After that Zenith tells Norn that Superd are the scariest demons in the world. And Norn being along Paul’s side this whole time may meet Ruijerd.
    3. We then cut to Roxy’s scene in the place she’s at (I forgot which episode mentions the place she’s in, sorry) and she immediately jumps to the conclusion that the dark clouds in the Asura Kingdom, caused by the mana, may be a result of Rudy. I wonder why she thought like that?
    4. Continuing, we’re introduced to person who looks half-dragon. He said "Mana is gathering. What’s gone wrong, and where." I feel like this implies something like the mana disaster happened before. Then he said, "Oh well, I’ll find out when I get there." I think we’ll meet him soon.
    5. Then we meet Kishirika Kishirisu, the Great Emperor of the Demon World, right after. She states, "Oh, that’s an absurd amount of mana. Whose spell is this? What? We can’t see them." (In this scene, she is seen using one of her demon eyes she revealed in Ep. 12.) "They must be shy. What a nuisance. In that case, We’ll go meet them face to face! We are the Great Emperor of the Demon World, Kishirika Kishirisu! Follow Us, Our people!" First off, she speaks as though she’s not alone even though she physically is alone in that scene in the desert, which is very disturbing. She may be talking to someone. Then we meet her again in episode 12 and with one her multiple eyes, the green one, she scans Rudy and gives a disgusted look like she found out what he really looks like from his previous life, which doesn’t feel likely. Or she found out the amount of mana he has. This is validated because she used one of her demon eyes to see the coming mana disaster in Ep. 8. This also validates the theory that Rudy may have indirectly caused the mana disaster. Though she used different eyes in both scenes so I’m most likely wrong on that.
    - Also Roshi, it’s funny you pointed out that she looks hungry in her scene in Ep. 8 because she was indeed hungry when we met her again in Ep. 12.
    6. Furthermore, Lord Perugius is watching the mana in the sky from his levitating Castle and says, "This light resembles the light of summoning." Is the "summoning" something that has to do with Rudy coming to the new world? Then he says, "Could someone be seeking to undo the seal on the Demon-God Laplace?" Laplace was mentioned a couple of times in the first half of this season but I forgot what they said about him. BUT he was called "Demon-God" as opposed to Man-God who has been helping Rudy in his new life.
    7. Afterwards, he calls upon Almanfi the Radiant and tells him, "Investigate the source of that mana. Slay any suspicious persons on sight." I’ll get back to this!
    8. We then cut to Rudy, Eris, and Ghislaine. Rudy is about to show his most powerful spell but they’re interrupted by the mana forming dark clouds in the sky.
This is where it gets interesting!
Ghislaine removes the eye patch over
her right eye and scans the mana clouds with a green demon eye.
    - The same eye Kishirika Kishirisu uses to scan Rudy in Ep. 12, "The Woman with the Demon Eyes". This confirms that Kishirika was looking at Rudy’s mana capacity. She stated in Ep. 8, "Oh, that’s an absurd amount of mana. Whose spell is this? What? We can’t see them…" "They must be shy. What a nuisance. In that case, We’ll go meet them face to face!"
Again and again it’s being hinted at that Rudy may have caused the mana disaster.
Then Almanfi the Radiant tries to surprise attack Rudy. Not Eris or Ghislaine. He immediately deduced that Rudy was the source of the mana cloud. He stated, "By order of Lord Perugius, I have come to slay the source of this disturbance…" "If I slay that boy, the disturbance may cease."
Both Roxy and Almanfi believe that Rudy is the source of the mana clouds.
Of course Ghislaine defends both Rudy and Eris but she states, "I swear it by my teacher, the Sword God Gal Farion, and the honor of Doldia!"
In Ep. 15, Slow Life in the Doldia Village, Ghislaine’s older brother tells the story of how they separated to his daughter Tona. He stated, "I was relieved when a wandering swordsman took her away from the village." I predict this wandering swordsman is the Sword God Gal Farion.
    9. Lastly, Almanfi leaves because of the incoming explosion of the mana cloud that teleports everyone away from Rudy’s village.
    - I also predict that either Lord Perugius or Almanfi the Radiant who works for him are one of The Seven Great Powers or the seven best fighters in the world, which was mentioned at the end of Ep. 15, when the group is heading to Milis.
    * I want to know why Man-God is giving Rudy all this advice and making him do all these things. I guess he really is trying to help.
    * Also Ep. 8 is called "Turning Point 1" so we may get a Turing Point 2" in the future which already hurts my brain.

What I'd like to point out after watching this episode is that Rudeus (anime only fan btw, don't know squat about the manga, want to keep it that way) shows that due to him remembering his past life, he can't seem to cement the fact that these people are his blood. His *family*. Like he never calls Paul "Dad" or "Father" when referring to him internally. I think he does the same to his mother. So given that contextual clue, I think it's safe to assume that Rudy just flat out doesn't regard these people as his family. So of course he's going to think about his girlfriend before people he has no real emotional ties to. He's not invested in them like he is with Sylvie and it shows. I'm wondering and hoping that this event is going to change that about him because it was genuinely starting to irritate me about his character.

We may also have to accept the fact that Rudy hasn't really been that caring for his parents, he didn't even go to the funeral of his real parents, and he always called his Isekai dad, Paul, and his Isekai mom, Zenith, in his head.

Paul seriously wins worst dad of the year award every single time he comes on screen. Like yes Rudy in his eyes is a genius who is far smarter then anyone his age, far stronger then anyone his age but that isn't an excuse for just accusing your own child for not doing something that you're only managing to do with a fully equipped group. Rudy's been travelling as a CHILD in a place he knew jack shit about, keeping the only person he knew safe and Paul's reaction is "why haven't you been doing what I've been doing?".
I assumed after their first fight Paul would've learned his lesson on not jumping to assumptions but apparently he's just as much of a idiot as Rudy is in a lot of cases. On top of everything Rudy was right there as the incident started, he was literally person n2 caught up in the whole thing, how would he have ever guessed that the damn thing reached all the way to his own village. Not to even mention because of his trauma from his past life he barely even knows most of the villagers.
Paul is the definition of an unreasonable father, I'm not saying he hasn't had a hard time but there's a limit to how much aggression you can take out on your own child. Everyone judging Rudy is no better, they've probably just been spoon fed stories of Rudy being a genius by Paul and been hoping that a there's been someone else randomly doing something despite there being a good chance of him knowing nothing.
I'm not saying this was a bad episode, if anything is was a fantastic episode for how much it made me hate Paul but the rant about how successfully the show portrays a horrible father had to happen. In short damn is both Paul and Rudy absolutely terrible at communication, but Paul's failure to have been an actual father to Rudy again makes me want to punch him. I do really love how "real" this anime is in terms of character portrayal, makes them feel a lot more understandable in comparison to a lot of other characters.

He has a lot on his plate he is being a father to Norn and the leader of the rescue squad. His high expectations of Rudy are unreasonable but the reason why he was really banking on Rudy to help search for their family is because he hasn’t made any progress despite trying his hardest. He wants his family to be together again and the stress that it is causing him is very evident with his appearance and his drinking. This episode does not highlight how he is a terrible father but how his desperations end up hurting those that he cares for.

    • @jimbob1862

@@mjtechnoviking44 Paul is haggard, yes. But this isn't the first time that him and Rudeus have gotten into an argument directly stemming from Rudeus being different than his view of him. Before it was because he saw Rudeus as far more childish than he was, and here it's because he's severely overestimating Rudeus. He even acknowledged this being a big cause of the argument last time, and promised to be better than that.
He's fully aware of how Rudeus glossed over mistakes and bigs himself up in stories, yet uses this as the basis to claim he doesn't care for his family. A family Paul directly told him to make a lower priority in his mind when he was 7, to the point that Paul told him not to even write letters home, and wonders why now, literal years later, that it didn't occur to Rudeus.
Rudeus should never have started with his stories, but Paul as his father and given the context of how he's fucked up previously should be well aware of what happens when he jumps to conclusions.
And it's only at the end of the entire argument he even gives Rudeus the proper information of the situation, something Rudeus had no clue about because he spent a year in the demon continent completely cut off from humans and when he did get to a human town, he was immediately imprisoned and spent an entire season away.
Paul has been busting his ass and it's clearly taken its toll on the guy, but that doesn't stop him being a generally pretty bad father to Rudeus. It's no surprise that Rudeus is able to pretty quickly tell that Paul probably slept around a lot with the women in his current group, because the guy hasn't really changed his behaviour and attitudes. He's just essentially spent years doubling down on the worst aspects of himself (and to be fair, this isn't ragging on Paul overall, in the general sense he's a pretty decent guy and he saved tons of people after the explosion, but in relation to his family I think he's shit) to get by and I think it's fair Rudeus calls that out too.
Rudeus is guilty of fucking up a lot of the initial conversation, but none of that warranted the misplaced hopes and responses Paul had towards him.

And yeah, I don't think Sylvie lived close to Rudy's home, so Sylvie's home would appear relatively closer to the disaster compared to his home. Plus Rudy and Eris got teleported(tp'd) together to the Demon Continent, he thought Paul and the family might have been tp'd together as well (and sylvie who was probably farther away from his family might have gotten tp'd alone) after the disaster(and he didn't think the disaster would reach his village).

Best shape or not, Paul failed as a father here but it's fine, we all make mistakes.
@Captainsnake I totally get you. It's jumping the gun on assumptions. That would be up for debate but even as a 'pretend son'. He did see them as his family. Even more so than the ones back in his previous life.
So the end predicament here is, whether or not he'd care about his 'best friend' or his 'family' more. Which is a pointless question like the question of saving the mother or the wife first. Just a difference in intimacy. Though I'm sure someone can explain it better than me.

Rudy was literally transported to the other side of the map. The only time he could have seen Paul's message or sent a letter was at the Zant Port and he was immediately kidnapped by beastmen. He spent a majority of his time in the demon continent where the strongest monsters live and there are no roads but only dirt paths if that. He was also point blank on the mana disaster he couldn't of known that it went to his home village, hell he couldn't have known it went back to Roa because they traveled a bit out so he could fire off a cumulonimbus. The first time he could send a letter he tried to.

You got to remember this. In this world there is no real mail delivery system or any fast form of communication as it is mainly done by adventurers. Paul sending out those letters would have taken at least a year to spread out to all the guilds and that is IF they even reached it there. In the LN it's stated you had to do multiple letters and just hope one of them reached in long distances. Rudy picking up quest in all the guilds in the demon continent, Paul's letter would not get there for a long time. By the time Rudy even got into human lands, he was swept away to the great forest before he could see, talk, or do anything in the city.

TL;DR Another example of how Paul's really not a good dad and flips a lot of his emotional stress and baggage onto Rudy.
The episode really slants it to seem like we should be disappointed with Rudeus for not thinking that other people might have been caught up and wondering about their wellbeing, but honestly if he had 1. he probably would have started obsessing over it which would lead to decreased mental health and therefore worse performance in getting back 2. there really wasn't any way that he could try and find them 3. even if he had options available to search they had barely enough money just to get Ruijerd, Eris, and himself as far as they are 4. they were the first caught in the blast, they had no reason to believe it affected as large of an area as it did and the only other person they thought was caught up was Ghislaine.
At the end of the day, Paul shouldn't be expecting this much of his 13 year old son and the relief of seeing Rudeus alive and well lasted about, what, 5 seconds? While the episode makes it seem like Rudeus doesn't care about anyone from his life but Eris, truly it's Paul that isn't showing any care for his child who miraculously traveled across continents and oceans to get back to home.
But of course that was hinted at near the end of the first part of season 1 when, in his letter, Paul straight up says he isn't thinking about finding Rudeus AT ALL. Paul thinks Rudeus can take care of himself so he prioritized taking care of Norn and helping people WHO WEREN'T HIS FAMILY. Something Paul admonishes Rudy for doing. Like father like son, Rudeus is under the passive belief that his family can take care of themselves so he prioritizes getting himself and Eris out of an extremely dire situation and then, when he does realize that the village was affected, his first thought is to ask about those who he cares about who don't have either the skills to take care of themselves or a reliable protector. Which is why him asking about Sylphy is a bad look, but, considering what Roxy said last episode, he knows his mom was the same rank adventurer as his dad and can probably take care of herself. Also Paul didn't start off by saying that his mom, Lillia, and Aisha were all missing (something you'd kinda expect him to say up front, but Paul is just as bad as Rudy at communication) so why would Rudy assume that, especially as a 13 year old?
Which is ANOTHER THING, I can understand Paul being very desperate to find Lillia and Aisha as they are just regular people at best, but him NOT thinking his wife could take care of herself and prioritizing finding her over one of his own CHILDREN is really kinda fucked up. Like regardless of if Rudeus is a prodigy, he's still Paul's son, a child. It's really disgusting, when you think about it, to both patronize your former adventurer wife and show reckless disregard for your son's safety by implying the son should be able to take care of himself (and potentially die trying) and his wife CAN'T.
Paul is not handling any of this well, and the main way he seems to have been keeping himself together is by assuming that Rudy would magically have the issue solved when he showed up again. It's like Paul just wants someone to vent frustration at and make them feel just as miserable as he does. I mean, really, what could Paul have ACTUALLY thought Rudy would be able to do to find everyone that Paul couldn't do as well?

    • @jefferynwosu7223
      @jefferynwosu7223 3 года назад +2

I wouldn’t say Paul isn’t a good dad he just snapped like a lot of stressed out parents do when put in situations like this, it wasn’t logical at all but nothing to happened to them is logical either he’s clearly drank, depressed and angry that he’s accomplished so little so far and can’t find his wife and his other child and her mother. Paul really cares for Rudy his frustration just came out with how from his pov Rudy didn’t think of his family first or to write to them as soon as he could seeing as he went missing.

It makes sense for why Paul reacted the way he did especially since he was drunk and stressed as all hell and his own fault would be that he didn't catch Rudy up to speed on things from the get-go when the latter clearly didn't understand the depth of the issue.

One of the draws of Mushoku Tensei is Rudeus’ chance at being better than he used to be. This isn’t just a case of “i was busy, surviving on the Demon Continent.” But also a symptom of who he used to be. In his previous life his family was not a priority of his. He didn’t have a good relationship with his parents. He wasn’t even there at their funerals, but he felt entitled to mooch off of them and I’m sure pick at their weaknesses and deficiencies. Something that he brought over into his interactions with Paul at the beginning of the series. He was used to doing that.
He’s worked on himself, learning about magic, getting a job, pursuing romantic endeavors, being a good teacher. All skills that focus inward.
He still hasn’t learned to care about his family. He’s projecting his previous family onto his new family. Just like his parents funeral, jacking off (his romantic interests), playing video games (going on adventures in the demon continent) were better things to focus on. “He wasn’t thinking about that.” And Paul exposed that.
I’m interested to see now that he’s realized he till has some growing to do what he’ll do going forward.

Well his mom is a S-Class adventurer, she can defend herself. Rudy also probably assumed she was fine and with her. also Roa village is FAR from where the mana disaster happened, and rudy was right next to it. Rudy then ended up in probably the farthest possible area when the teleport landed. the other side of the demon continent. by the time he got to the demon port, word STILL hadn't reached that area yet ( since Roxy had just landed herself and is assumed to be the first arrival, outside of slaves and traders, who don't do anything with the guild assumingly ). so he gets smuggled to the other country and gets IMMEDIATELY abducted by the beast people, then went directly to Millis. Rudy had no opportunity to know about the scale of the disaster. Because he never SAW any guild boards with up to date info.
