    • @lapatti

      @@lapatti Exactly. The movie never shows that liberalized sexualization is better than religious conservatism by default, or vice versa. I actually thought the ending was very nuanced: even though her friend group was necessary for her to find herself and come out of her shell, they were pretty selfish (as kids are bound to be). Her mother, on the other hand, genuinely cared for her tried to help her but was often misguided. In the end, she (with the help of her mother) finally realizes that what she truly wants is to just have the room to grow and be a regular kid. It's honestly a pretty even handed take on the issue and it really sucks to see people lambasting it without watching the entire thing.

    • @AyshaLovesYou
      @AyshaLovesYou 3 года назад +40

      They have a child psychologist on movie sets, to allow the children to express how they feel about what they were just asked to perform. The child psychologist is there so if any negative feelings arise, the child has somebody to talk to. They usually have no say in how the movie turns out, or what is done to the children, but to just provide a safe space after scenes. Not all movie sets that hire children do this, but they all should. Because actor children have to act out things they should never have to in plenty of movies and shows. So it’s actually nice to know that this set had a child psychologist.

      No ! It isn't ! It's proof that you are engaging in difficult topics and should be ready to stop filming anytime the children say they are uncomfortable, but a lot of movies about issues like child abuse and dysfonctional families are staring child actors, who - is that even an unpopular opinion - should ALWAYS be followed by psychologists ! We can't just completely fire children from sets because reality is too hard to bare. I understand what you mean and indeed there was a clear issue with the people directing the picture and camera angles in this movie. But this point is not true, psychologists should be welcome on all sets and it should not be criteria for discouraging directors to talk about serious taboo issues !

    So there are a handful of comments saying that if a child psychologist is on set, maybe the movie shouldn't be made. i really disagree.
    personally I think any film with or for children should have a child psychologist because you never know what could mess a kid up. a perfect example is star wars. for return of the jedi, George Lucas consulted a child psychologist who said that unless it was unequivocally stated that Vader was Luke's father, moviegoers age 12 and under would dismiss Vader's claim to be Luke's father as a lie. that's the only reason yoda is in the movie. because kids need closure.
    i have a little brother, and it can be very surprising the things he holds onto. the stuff he notices and remembers from the things he watches, the stuff that affects him, isn't always the stuff i'd suspect.

      I feel like you missed a few points, it’s more about the context of this movie. You bring up good points. But I think that the issue is that the director just HAD TO MAKE THE POINT that she had a child psychologist so now it justifies everything they do.

      As someone who knows a few people related with actors, based on what I do know, it's usually a thing to have a psychiatrist on set regardless of what film it is if it's going to depict something heavy. Most of the time, it's because it can get mentally damaging to the actors to stay in the mindset of their characters (since they have to make their act feel as realistic as it can). And while I still think there are several unnecessary things made within this movie (cuties), using the "psychiatrist" excuse is like saying that drama movies should never exist if many actors would need psychiatrists after filming, it has less to do with the plot but more about the importance of having mental help in general when doing acting.

    • @mica8701
      @mica8701 3 года назад +1

      definitely an agree.
      like what about child actors in horror movies ? what about child actors who have to act out a scene where moderately scary things happen in otherwise lightbeat children's movie and they might have trouble regulating their emotions afterwards ? and the list goes on and on about circumstances where i think it's crucial to have custodians and a child psychologist on the set so these kids can work in as safe conditions as possible. and none of these instances are inherently exploitative.
      i'd rather have child psychologists on ANY set where children are present rather than in any way.. stigmatize the neutral act of them being there. rather safe than sorry because as you said, children are individuals and may have a reaction to something that didn't flag as potentially alarming to the adults around them.
      that being said, i also think the comments above mine are kind of arguing against a point you never made. you specified that you are talking about people who are basically saying "if a child psychologist is on set, maybe the movie shouldn't be made". you're explicitly neutral (by literally not taking a stance) about how gross it is for the director to try and argue that the movie was okay because a child psychologist was on the set. you're simply saying that you disagree with the prior statement.

      Despite what was said in the video, it's the Democrats who are supporting this. Not all or even most do, but a lot have been advocating for this film. What's worse is that the internet is covered with articles defending this. This should be a bi-partisan issue, but it's not getting fair coverage. We're talking about the sexual abuse of children here, but one of the few Liberals to speak out against this, Tulsi Gabbard, is often accused of secretly being a conservative and is being denounced by a lot of Democrats. All just for defending these little girls.

      @@xaniiiiiii the film was not "committing" any horrible acts beyond depicting something that is already part of our everyday life in modern western society- they were recreating thru ACTING various damaging and inappropriate behaviors & experiences that girls actually do go through in real life - just like when animal rights ppl SHOW THE VIDEOS of this horrible shit, they are reproducing and depicting it for many ppl to see and be horrified by. and this film shows and reproduces the sexualization of young girls while forcing the audience to feel disgusted and horrified by it. its literally the same, except in one example they get real footage and show it vs. this dramatic film for adults which portrays a heavy topic and shows the damage done by society to these young characters.
      there is way more twerking tweens footage on dance competition videos, cheerleading competitions, tiktok, youtube, IG, etc (if you're just measuring by the minute) than there is in this movie. if you want to be mad at the existence of sexualized girls online, then be mad at that. but don't be mad at a serious dramatic film for trying to make a critique of that cultural norm you claim to be so disturbed by.
