So is it ideal? No. But I doubt you'd be anywhere close to shocked if you saw adults play 11yo girls 'cause it would be nowhere near believable (which is a huge thing in french cinema). So most people would end up not caring about the issue and wouldn't do anything to stop it. Which was the point of this movie.

@@celia18881. “Not really considering that the problem they’re trying to talk about is partly caused by adults pretending to be children giving children a bad example of how to act.”
Here’s why that’s wrong. This was trying to speak against young girls being exposed to inappropriate behavior and content early in life. Not once did anyone say anything about adults pretending to be kids and influencing them in that manner, though I do agree that it’s the adults on social media and whatnot who are exposing these kids to inappropriate content and behavior. Edit: If you were trying to say that kids watching this may think it’s okay to do that themselves after watching, well the age rating was mature, so no child should be watching this.
      2. “They also made sure to have a full team of psychologists to help the kids.”
How is that better? Yeah, sure they at least tried to make sure the kids felt alright about what they were doing but 1, they are not old enough to have consented to doing what they were told to do, and 2, if you need a team of psychologist to justify putting a child through that experience, the child is probably better off not doing said action/experience.
      3. “I’m also not sure you realize how common this is for kids. Most of these girls already went through that phase (which is part of why they had the skills already). It’s not news to them as it seems to be for you. It’s their reality.”
You may not have considered this, but you don’t know me and I don’t know you. We are interacting strictly on this platform and know nothing about each other. You may not have known that I am a girl as well and only a few years older than the girls in this movie. I know exactly how common it is. I’ve seen this in my classrooms, friends, and other girls at one point or another. Going through that phase does not give an underage child the right to give consent to these actions. They may know how aperent this problem is in our society and they may know how it feels to go through it, but that never ever gives them the right to consent to sexual actions as someone who is underaged. (Side note: The “It’s not news for them as it seems to be for you,” comment, while incorrect, was a pretty good comeback, I’ll give you that.)
As for the rest of your comment, I do agree with almost everything else you said. Yes, people might be a little shocked at how adults are playing children, but it’s much better than children doing things they cannot give permission to do. But saying no one would end up caring (in France) because of the unrealistic age, I don’t think is true. I’ve seen plenty of movies and shows where the actor is older than the character, yet most the time (depending on the genre that is) I cry anyways because I know the struggle they are presenting to be true.

Turning Red and The Proud Family's episode Hip-Hop Helicopter, both taught me much better ways in which one can tell a story about a group of four girls who want their parents and other people to take them more seriously as they grow up, without sexualizing the girls in the process.
    1. Don't make the girls wear revealing clothes. The girls from Turning Red wear decent clothes for the whole film, and when the girls from The Proud Family wear dance outfits that reveal more skin than what they normally wear, they were shown to be in the wrong for wearing them.
    2. The Proud Family and Turning Red found an indirect way to criticize the sexualization of minors without being inappropriate for kids to watch. Oscar got mad at a grown man who called Penny hot, while Ming gets mad at a teen that she thinks is a grown-up too old for Meilin.
    3. Penny Proud and Mei Lin Lee are still likable characters to the audience when they disobey their parents, because they do not cross the moral event horizon and try to kill other people when they get angry, and Mei Lin feels remorse and fears for herself after harming Tyler.
    4. Using animated kids and not real kids helped The Proud Family and Turning Red a lot. While Kyla Pratt (Penny), Rosalie Chiang (Mei Lin) and Ava Morse (Miriam) were all kid actors voicing kid characters, and Soleil Moon Frye (Zoey) started out as a kid actor 20 years before The Proud Family, they never had to wear the same outfits or do any of the suggestive dances that their characters did. Cuties does not have this advantage because it films real girl actors, but it could have been less illegal if it did not have any grotesque cinematography zooming in on the girls' private areas, or had the girls get punished for their dirty dancing in the middle of the film, or just find a way to tell its story without showing any twerking and other sexual dances.

If I had a Death Note, I'd write down the names of the entire adult cast and crew - including the production personnel. After that, I'd follow with:
      - the custodial parents/guardians of the children involved
      * that doesn't mean I'll write down all of their parents' names; just the ones that had custody of the kids at the time. Odds are they're the ones that allowed them to be in that movie.
      * in cases of divorce, it's a safe bet to assume that the non-custodial parent was not okay with it. Unless evidence otherwise surfaces, I'd rather not risk killing an innocent man or woman.
      - all Netflix executives
      * they allowed this illegal content on their platform and did nothing.
      - all the lawyers connected to this, since they clearly aided and abetted Netflix in a heinous crime.

There are two simple things that would easily make this film actually make its actual intended message make a point:
    1. Use actors who are actually 18 + but look very young. Then you at least have actual consent
    2. Use the camera motions, the cuts, the parallels to emphasize how disturbing it actually is
The line between fetish and commentary may be thin, but it is a line and as someone who loves to write/read horror dealing with complex situations, you need to be careful of how you make these things

As a Muslim whose father has two wives, I really hate how people portray polygyny. That's now how it works! You're supposed to gain explicit permission from the first wife and the rest of the family before marrying again. And as an ambiamourous person, it's the same thing. *In case you're wondering what I mean by "Dawson Casting", it's essentially when young characters are played by actors that are older (example: a 20 year old person playing a 15 year old character). The reason I say it would've been much more effective, is because, and I'm letting TV Tropes take it away on this one, "[...] it is generally illegal to show even simulated sex on film (including animation in many countries) unless all of the involved individuals are at least at the minimum age of consent. Having adults play the characters allows the filmmakers to depict various behaviors on camera that would get them arrested if even one of the actors turned out to be under the age of consent."

I am a Muslim woman and no you haven't spread any misinformation. In Islam, you can have up to four wives as a man. There are VERY strict rules for a man to have. He has to be equal toward every one of them when it comes to everything. Money, quality time, children, Houses, clothing, food, services, and every other thing. It may sound easy but dealing with four partners is very complicated and Allah (SWT) suggested having just one.
The reason why Allah (SWT) allowed Muslim men to have up to four wives is that if the man's first wife was sick or got into an accident, the man wouldn't divorce her and she would end up as a widow (because at that time women weren't able to work traditionally)
Allah (SWT) didn't allow men to have a lot of women but in fact, he made them have fewer because at that time and age men were marrying up to 30 or 40 women so Allah (SWT) said that 4 is the highest you could ever get and equality is also very difficult to keep.
Allah (SWT) didn't allow women to have multiple partners because they could get pregnant and then wouldn't know whose child it was.
I hope that this information helped anyone who is curious about this topic

The entire movie is played out like a normal “young love” type movie and at the end it shows the two people meet up and it reveals that it’s a young child that’s been manipulated by an adult and as the screen fades to black it shows the amount of times stuff like this has happened and shows pictures of young kids that had to live though it.
Like they meet up in the park and it looks like a handsome man and a beautiful woman and the woman says
      “wow you look so handsome”
      “Oh thank you”
“We should hang out together at my house and maybe get to know each other”
“Oh uh I don’t think I should I have to go home after this”
“As but that would make me so sad :(“
And they keep meeting at this park and become good friends then he finally agrees to go to her house and it just shows the girl taking off the guys shirt as he looks uncomfortable then it shows what happens later and instead of a man being there it’s a child that looks scared.
It could probably be a short film to make people more aware about the dangers of predators and the tactics they might use.
(Also I put it as a girl being a predator bc a lot of people only hear about men being predators while women are as well)

I'm a hardcore horror fan and the violence specifically towards women is the problem. It's a strange franchise. It's very passionate in it's love of being the one pushing the envelope but beyond the performance of Art, his sidekick, and the practical effects it's an incredibly boring, confusing movie. The first one (not counting his first appearance in another movie) was better, smaller, less bloated but the second one showcased some amazing but disturbing effects. I haven't seen Cuties. I understand the concept and I can see how this highlights a society that steers younger girls into adult entertainment. Yet...nobody cared when in reality little girls like Brittney Spears and Aguilera were coached by adults for concerts and music videos to be hyper sexual. That was real life, this is a movie, so the outrage seems contradictory to me. "Selective outrage" as Chris Rock said.

As a Muslim, I was very confused about how the depicted polygamy. Yes, you can marry more that 1 woman, BUT *you must have permission from your first wife to do so* . A husband can't just wake up one day and decide, 'Hey, I want another wife!' (as seen in the movie). You're honestly cheating at that point.
