My cousin was 23 when he met a girl in a bar and ended up really liking her. Turns out she was using a fake ID and later told him she was only 16. Guess what? He put a stop to it immediately and contacted her parents, let them know he was really sorry and that he wouldn't be seeing her again, and to be sure they kept a close eye on who she was hanging out with, in case she ended up with a guy who had weaker morals than him.
    You know, like this guy.

@@ericahenn9145 If you’re a girl in a bar it is a likely chance there will be men in the vicinity hitting on you and maybe even trying to take you home for a hook up. What are the chances she may have agreed and then a poor unsuspected man might have been charged with statutory rape if she is not over the age of consent? We shouldn’t excuse poor behavior from teenagers. There are plenty of them lying about their age to be able to do adult activities, and in turn it might get someone in trouble! What their cousin did was actually exemplary. Call the parents, let them deal with it, and move on.

@@tahahagar7664 Yes... There definently would have. 14 years old and 25 are ENTIRELY different sectors of life. Ones still in the 8th grade while the other is most likely graduated from college. There's a difference in maturity. Imagine right now dating someone who's 11 years younger, be really weird wouldn't it? (Well unless you're like 50 or something.) It's mostly about intention. You shouldn't be attracted to a CHILD. 14 is just barely a teenager, 25 is a full adult. There's a huge problem there.
It still would've been a tiny bit weird if he was 16, but it would be far better. They'd be around the same time in life (8-9th grade, and 10-11th grade.) most likely be interested in the same thing, and would be similar in the maturity sector.

YES. THANK YOU. I’m sick of people missing this part. A 19 year old May be “legal” but they are still too young to date a 40 year old, they just got out of high school for Christ’s sake!
I don’t get what’s so hard to get about this logic: Age gaps are fine as long as both parties are in the same stretch of their life.
A 5 year age gap is nothing when you’re 40 but huge when you’re 12. You need to take the developmental speeds of different ages into account, it’s really not that hard.

It's all about him. He doesn't even consider the trauma he's causing; he just doesn't care.

Growing up I was told all the time how mature I was, that I had an old soul. I never was attracted to guys my own age, so when I was 15 and a 27yr old showed interest in me, I went with it. I was happy to find someone that I could connect with that wasn’t “immature.” We went on a couple dates(that my parents dropped me off at)and did everything but sex. Luckily I realized that it was kind of weird and wrong and despite his begging I broke it off. If that was bad, adding 20yrs to the age is so much worse. I feel so sorry for this girl that didn’t get out. I can’t imagine having to be stuck with a guy I met when I was basically still going through puberty.
Anyways, a few years later the guy I “dated” went to prison for nearly killing an infant and seriously injuring a toddler that he was babysitting. I’m glad he’s locked away somewhere.

I spent my childhood getting mocked at that, people calling my father my grandfather and my father being proud that my mother is so young, it's disgusting how little control of the relationship my mother has, she's the one to be taught, he often says things in the line of ''you're not going to teach me, I'm older than you so I'm wiser and you have to respect the people older than you''- I'm 21 and i hate their relationship, my mom can't get out the relationship cause she depends economically of him.

I'm a gay male that has been dating for 10 years (I'm 28 now). This type of relationship is *very* common in the gay male world (and I've seen a few lesbian examples of it too). Often, the older man will take advantage of guys who just out of high school and were bullied a lot, had no friends, and considered "too ugly" for guys their own age, so they get desperate enough to date older.
I know this because I've been a victim of this. Many of these older men will be 50 and up, often understating their age, and have a strict "18-25 only" limit for their dates. I have a feeling since they spent their younger years closeted, they wanna make up for it. But they often get very forceful, and if we say no to them, they claim we're being ageist and discriminating. I'm 28 and still get these guys going after me, while I just want a guy in his late 20s or early 30s. :(
The straight world seems to have no idea that this goes on, though.

Being "progressive" means not being hypocritical about judging relationships that don't affect you personally and assuming people's intentions based on societal stereotypes.
Yes it's perfectly fine to be suspicious of an 18 and 48 year old, but generally speaking unless you're a parent or friend then as an uninvolved 3rd party this kind of uninhibited criticism is a slippery slope to encouraging bigotry against even more reasonable age gaps that one just happens to personally and arbitrarily find "gross."

When I was 27, I messed up my tinder settings and ended up on a date with a [really nice] 20 year old girl. She was cool and fun and pretty, but at the end of the day I had no clue how to even talk to her.. tbh it just felt like talking to a child in a way. There was just simply no way to really relate to her. I mean heck, she couldn't even go to the bar with me! I thought about sleeping with her cause the date went really well, but ultimately it just felt kinda gross and I opted out cause that would NOT have worked out. We were in totally separate stages of life. And perhaps more importantly, totally different stages of mental/emotional development.
That said, I think it _could_ be possible for a mid-20's person and a mid-40s person to get married and be happy and healthy. mid 40s and a literal teenager though? Absolutely not. That half decade in the middle tends to be a period of rapid growth... so while

They had the proper response, "oh, you're too young for us." Rock festivals can get a bit crazy in the evenings so they acted like body guards to keep crowd surfers from falling on us until the performance was over. @@coralline1984 honestly it's best to learn with people your age. I always liked the older guys too- but looking back I had the most fun with people my age/going through similar stages as me.
If you're inexperienced and want to be with someone that is, just know it will come with a lot of anxieties and insecurities. You will be worried about "performing well" and will most likely compare yourself to the other girls he's been with even without knowing them.
I think learning together is just the best way to go! You are both very nervous but have barely any expectations and just let it flow. Sometimes there will be awkward moments but it will be on BOTH ends- not just you doing something and then feeling embarrassed.
Older guys- especially if they're talking to younger girls - don't want a relationship. They just want sex and your virginity if you still have it. So all they are going to look at you like is a sex object. So you WILL feel pressure to be perfect and "fulfil" his wishes so that he still "hangs out" with you.
I am speaking from a lot of personal expiriance in both my life and others. I am 24 now and feel like I've had it figured out for a minute. But I promise you all it takes is time- we all learn at our own pace.
Btw TMI tho- the most turned on I've ever been in my life was the "first times" with a nervous crush. Something about LEADING UP to everything... Not just diving in. You guys will actually explore and figure out what you like instead of just getting on with it. Most older guys don't do foreplay. You're there for them and them only. And when they cum, you leave- basically.
Sorry hun not trying to scar or scare you but just thought you'd want my honest opinion. I always went for the older guys so I totally get it. But idk there's something cool about exploring something new and exciting together

One of the things that I question about this is how she was comfortable with this in the first place. An older man came up to me when I was fourteen and I was very very uncomfortable and wanted to get out of the situation as soon as possible. I’ve always found that having older men talk to you while you are still a child is just generally uncomfortable.

When I was around that age I had no problems being approached by way older men and there were quite a few situation where it was pure chance that I wasn't abducted or worse I think. I felt very comfortable with older men that were nice to me. However, that's because I had a lot of abuse going on at home and my parents regularly ignored every boundary I had, beating me and telling me I was ugly and worthless on the regular.
I found anybody who showed me just a bit of decency to be an awesome human being. My mother told me so often that I was ugly, fat and annoying and that I would never find a man, that when older guys approached me I kind of thought "Well, I know logically this is wrong, but this is probably the only shot I will EVER get at ANYONE liking me."
It was pure luck, that nothing ever happened tbh.

She's in for a nasty shock in a few years when she finally sees the gap between teenagers and someone in their mid twenties.
I was also one of those teenagers who thought age gaps like these were fine, until I grew up to see how predatory in nature those relationships were.
And it's awful because no matter what you say, you're never gonna get through to these teens.
Because they can't see it yet. And you'll just sound like a party pooper.

Hey, I know your comment is old, but just in case you ever run into a minor stuck in this situation, the best thing you can do is ask questions. "Why are they attracted to you? Why are you attracted to them? Where do you see yourself in 5 years? What about them?" Etc. Get the minor to really THINK about their relationship. That will speed up their realization that their relationship isn't normal or okay.

As someone who got into a relationship with a much older man when I was in my early 20s, I feel so bad for this girl. The problem is, you have never been in a serious relationship before (or you've been in very few), so you put up with a lot of behavior that at 30 you would never tolerate. And then that he got her pregnant when she was underage...that tells you all you need to know right there. And the friend looks like he wishes he could get the same set up!!

This is exactly what happened to Courtney Stodden who was groomed, manipulated, and married Dough Hutchenson when she was 16 and he was 51.
This is disgusting. There is a reason that men like that don’t date women who are closer to them in age. It’s much easier to manipulate and control a teenager who doesn’t have the relationship or life experience to see how fucked up this is yet.

If a grown ass man or woman is dating an 18 year old run. They are telling you clear as day that they would date someone younger if it was legal. They like minors. They may be dating a legal adult, but an 18 year old was legally a minor a few months ago. It’s nasty for a full grown adult to want someone who they could not legally date last month. They like minors. The person they’re dating may not be a minor, but they were a minor last month. It’s gross.

    • @anasonyc3983

@@gilarnyboo7035 There's such a thing as lived experience. You have someone who is fully matured, has a lot of experience, is independent and has full reign/agency over their life, and then you have a teenager who did NOT complete their development , did not yet realise their own identity, has yet to determine their values and beliefs, is dependant on someone else financially and otherwise etc etc. There is an inherent power disbalance between the two, whatever the law has to say on it.
Their relationship (in itself reprehensible) lasted for mere 5 months (too short of a time for any couple to settle down together) before he got her pregnant. Even if she wanted to break the engagement, she would not allow herself for the sake of their children. Do you truly see nothing wrong with the situation? I don't even know where to start, there's nothing positive about the situation.
You say you don't see any victimization. Just because she wasn't coerced into anything doesn't mean the relationship is healthy. Ever heard of grooming? Perhaps look into it before you defend predatory relationships. As the adult, that man had the responsibility not to engage in a relationship with an impressionable, gullible child. I'm becoming redundant so I'll stop, but I hope you'll give what I said some consideration.
