You can theoretically come across two types of homosexuality in the animal kingdom; One in the "classical" sense (i.e. same-sex-intercourse) and the other in a more "romantic" sense (i.e two same-sex animals raising a child, etc.). The first is actually relatively common since, in certain species, sex is used as a way of (friendship) bonding, an act of dominance or as a way of greeting (kissing falls under that category as well). This is, for instance, recorded under primates most related to us (like bonobos). The other kind of homosexuality is often exhibited by birds. Flamingos especially are seen raising a child together with another female (or, male/male when the female has passed or abandoned the egg, since flamingos are highly/exclusively group living animals, there's a sort of "One for all, all for one" motto going on), the male/male dynamic is possible because both sexes are able to produce milk in the upper digestive tract to feed the chicklet. As a fun fact: HIV is incredibly hard to make a vaccine for because it mutates very quickly, a single person with HIV can have dozens of different variants in their body at once
Which also means every case of HIV is unique, every infection cluster/spread is unique, and you'd have to take a guess as to which of the 86 variants a person can have.
Same reason that there's no broad spectrum cure for cancer, every cancer specific to organs are unique, and everyone's specific cancer is unique. So we use the common trait of cancer cells being unable to repair themselves and treat it with destructive therapies. Your healthy cells can respond to damage caused by chemo and rad therapy and cancer cells can only die. It's like clear-burning a forest to kill off an invasive species attacking native plants. The forest can grow back, the invasive species cannot.
Ok, I'm literally only a few minutes in but a conservative saying they'd never get offended by a children's book is so funny to me. My family used to own a children's book store, and we had a few lgbt+ children's books and holy macaroli, the amount of triggered conservative Christians that would roll through, see those books, and go off. My mom got death threats over cartoon gay penguins. Conservatives are entirely not self-aware.

Little of topic, but I love how people are starting to question gender-pronouns. I'm a native Finnish speaker, and we only have one pronoun (hän). I remember my first English classes in third grade, all of us kids were just confused, and wondering why. Gender-specific pronouns seemed so pointless to us back then, as they still do.
im South African, and my mother tongue is Sotho. we also don't have gender pronouns at all and from my understanding, a lot of other African languages are the same. i learned Spanish and when i saw objects and other random words having genders my brain nearly broke.
As someone who grew up speaking german, a language that likes to gender everything on this planet, just having one pronoun, sounds so much better ^-^
I have kind of an opposite case, since I grew up speaking Hebrew, which is SUCH a gendered language (everything from pronouns to nouns to NUMBERS is gender-specific), so when discovering that English has ungendered words like "you" and singular "they" it immediately became better than Hebrew in my opinion, because even before finding out that I'm an androgynous nb who prefers they/them, I always found the specifics and the unnecessary, heavy leaning towards masc gendering (e.g., saying "who's the person that did it? He could be anyone" is considered the best gender-neutral option in Hebrew) so unbelievably frustrating.

I interviewed a doctor specialised in HIV and STDs for an article and, basically, the reason we don’t have an HIV vaccine yet it’s because it wasn’t interesting. HIV was a “gay disease” from the second it appeared, and governments couldn’t care less about the gays and marginalised communities in which the virus was more common. But now, surprise surprise, at least in my country, there are more straight people with HIV than gay people, bc straight people don’t give an f about protection, bc they never think STDs will happen to them.

I'm an actor & there was one time I overheard a few co-stars making the typical "I identify as *insert inanimate object*" joke (this was in 2021 btw). So I jst walked by and said "I identify as someone who realizes that joke wasn't funny in 2014 and it's not any funnier now." It didn't change their behavior but it was satisfying to see their embarrassment at being called unfunny as approval-hungry beginners working on a comedy lol.

adding on to the person complaining abt pride month, the military was never discriminated against, while the LGBTQ+ community still struggles with acceptance to society (me being a part of the community)

As I understand it, the reason it is so hard to create a vaccine for HIV lies in the structure of that particular virus itself. I’m not a virologist, so I can’t explain it exactly, but something about the virus’s structure means that it can easily evade antibodies by “hiding” itself with some kind of protein camouflage. Again, I am not well-versed in the science, but I remember learning this from the documentary “How to Survive a Plague.”

Because most oppressed people feel as if they’ll be respected by these people who have not and will not respect them for centuries. They’re trying to be safer, but the space they’re in is ultimately more dangerous and harmful.

There's also this element of respectability politics where a person part of a marginalised group for example the black community, chooses to tolerate the intolerance towards them to not appear "aggressive" and "loud" (all of which are just microaggressions that are thrown around by mainly white people when BIPOC try to speak up about a person's racist behaviour.)

Why do Christians think gay people having a rainbow is a bad thing? If anything it's q sign from God that homosexuality is not a sin and they they should be loved and accepted too
I think they think that it was taken away, and that since it is a symbol in Christianity they think that it can't be used in that context anymore. Which is weird considering all of the other examples that she gave in the video about where the rainbow is used all through out history. I am a christian but I don't have a problem with it. The rainbow is meant to be a symbol of unity, and to some people might feel that since it is now a large part of the gay community, and their flag, that it has taken away the unity of the rainbow, and making it *seem* like it is only for gay people now. I think that you can still use the rainbow for whatever you want. you don't have to be gay to wear something with a rainbow on it, and it can STILL have significance in your culture or religion without having to feel like it has been taken away from you. that's just my two-sense on the thing here :)

True story: So I play a lot of online games that let you talk to the enemy team. Most of the time it’s all fun and games but sometimes you meet trolls and genuinely hateful people. So it’s pride month and I always say “Happy pride month babes” before the match starts so spread some positive vibes right. And most of the time I get the love back but it made me realize that during black history month when I did it I got wayyyyy more hate. I don’t understand why? I would type “Happy black history lovely’s” and boom I’d get called a N* or get some racial slur thrown at me. It’s like wow oKay. So now it kinda scares me to say happy black history month while playing because the things some people say blows me. Course I fight back, I always fight back for both but it still hurts ya know?

About the rainbow - In my language, Kannada, rainbow is called "Kamanabillu", which translates to Kama's Bow. Kama is the god of love in Hinduism. The Rainbow is literally a symbol of celebration of love in our culture. For me, it's the perfect symbol to celebrate my gayness, really. I'm so sorry Christianity isn't the only religion in the world, and I'm sorry you have no idea about other cultures, honey. It's a pity really.

Like for me the needle hurt going in, but the worst thing was that my arm was sore as shit for a day after and I felt really tired. But I just got the second dose today and I actually feel a lot better than the first time, only a little sore!
There is no vaccine for HIV yet because a) the virus mutates insanely fast and b) the virus targets a cell type crucial for the immune response that is needed for vaccines to work. There are anti viral drugs effective against early stage hiv infections now though.
Edit: I'm an immunobiologist and I would like to compliment and thank you for this well researched and presented section on vaccines.
