There was no wikipedia edit war in Afro Samurai. Because it existed as fantasy and was never declared to be historical fact.
But in shadows, it was heavily advertised as having partnered with experts, and it did happen. Also, there are a lot of basic descriptive errors for having an expert in the room.
The current UBI approach is to take a different approach from the many creations that have been made in the past, and it's okay to erode actual history with a creation full of mistakes, so there is a backlash.

At first, many people on Twitter in Japan said like "Yasuke as the protagonist? Looks interesting, what are white people mad about?" I myself thought it was a game about Yasuke protecting the Japanese people from the Templars, so I was going to buy it when it went on 70% off.
But then, after the Famitsu interview, more and more Japanese people started to think that Ubisoft is mocking us, and then it became clear that Lockley wrote completely different things in the Japanese and English versions of the book, and that's where we are now.
Personally, I was physiologically repulsed when I saw Yasuke's brutal killing of a village samurai who looked just like my family or neighbors in the walk-through video.
The IRONY of this controversy; people **defending** Yasuke I guarantee are the same people who cried outrage of "cultural appropriation" during the original Ghosts of Tsushima presentation in E3 (back when Sony still had their shows there). Because.... gaaaaaasp, a *white* man dressed in a Yukata was playing the shakuhachi flute... not your average flute either.
DIFFERENCE being; Yasuke, a real historical figure yet being **misrepresented** in his role in history, the E3 stage performer actually EARNED his position, was a **certified** player of the shakuhachi.... having been trained by a master of the instrument. It gives you the demographics.. .. but it all depends on the website that's being used for the petition. Also.. that was the exact number.. before anyone started passing the petition around on RUclips.. ... Another thing to you.... Me and my friends.. did a little project... There are 12 of us in total. Three of us live in Texas.. I have four friends in Japan who are actually from there.. the rest lives elsewhere. I met them back when I was 12 and I used to go to school out there. I went to three different cities asking random people.. from my experience.... there's more people who just don't care.. but I did counter two people.. who had an issue with the game.
