Depends on the character so i only partly but NOT wholely agree with you. I like Mace Windu and Miles Morales. Seems folks have forgotten the savage complaints when George Lucas created a BLACK JEDI and when Brian Michael Bendis (comicbook writer) created Miles Morales. The only "representation" i am AGAINST is racebending and genderbending pre-established characters who are NOT shape-shifters.
@@shadowone01x99 When I said "without originality", racebending and genderbending of established characters is **exactly** what I'm talking about. Mace Windu is an **original** character, added to a wide roster of Jedi, in a time before they were wiped out. I don't know of anybody who complained about him. Miles Morales is kind of a double edged sword.... he's an original character (his civilian identity) at the same time taking the name of a known superhero, Spiderman. Not just known to us, the audience, also already known to the populace of his universe. Even in that universe he's NOT the first to make that name, Peter Parker-Spiderman already existed there too and Miles assumes the name after his death. Like it or not, Miles will always be under the shadow of the **original** Spiderman, a name with a very long legacy.
@@whatthefanart Technically speaking Mace Windu is a new attachment to a pre-existing original narrative. Basically a side character. But i bet u if Disney decides to give Mace Windu his own movie or tv series, we will still see complaints against it. I agree Miles Morales is a double edged sword but Morales is NOT the first to share the Spiderman title with Peter Parker but so i find it VERY WEIRD and hypocritical of Miles h4t€rs. I love that Miles family is different AND he has some unique abilities separate from Peter.
@@shadowone01x99 "new attachment to a pre-existing original narrative" what kind of mental gymnastics is THIS?? One more time, Mace Windu is an **original** Jedi with his own **original** name, not a race bend of Luke Skywalker, or Obi Wan or any other established Jedi from the lore. Mace Windu didn't assume a name from someone before him, with all the legacy that comes with. In EVERY meaningful way, he's an ORIGINAL CREATION added to the ever expanding Star Wars universe. In no way comparable to Miles Morales. Even before him, in the Knight of the Old Republic game, set 4000 years before the OG trilogy you had Jolee Bindo. In the prequel trilogy (including Clone Wars animated series) and KOTOR, set in times when the Jedi thrived, you have **numerous** Jedi coming from all sorts of backgrounds, including many of the well known ALIEN species. But you think fans had an issue with a black Jedi? Really? Seriously dude, stop INVENTING DRAMA where none existed in the first place.
As a lesbian myself and half Korean. This whole situation with forced representation and race swaps needs to stop. Even I am sick of the people who are not part of the LBGTQ+ and are not even Asian acting like they speak for us and you know how stupid that is. Big example I can use recently is them making Harley Quinn Asian when she is has always been white. Because yes that’s what I want is a race swapped character instead of just creating a new character that is Asian. I swear today’s society has taken a ride to stupid town and 90% of then passengers are crazy people with no real idea that what they are doing is wrong. It boggles the mind you know? Loved you speak the truth thank you 🙏 it’s about time it was said. Sorry for the long comment but I had to vent and say my piece.
Creating a new awesome character true to a different culture is a hard job for these talentless hacks. They have zero understanding about other cultures to create a respectful, original character that reflects the values of other nations. It's just your generic blue haired nose ring white feminists role playing other races and made-up sexual orientations.
I personally feel like Representation in the industry is like receiving hand-me- downs from an older sibling. It should offend all the black people trying to protect the idea of representation in the industry smdh
I think that rapresentation is good when it make sense. Captain America is just make sense, they were good friends. He just gave his shield to who was worth it
representation these days is merely just repackaged tokenism. it's still racisim, but they get away with it because it focuses on making these roles a possibility by force into our media instead of doing it organically. what other people get annoyed by is forced diversity just to check a box as ultimately it's all about forcing behaviors via our Overload's Larry Fink and his investment groups BlackRock and Vanguard in order to notch up that social credit scoring board because we are slowly turning into china and will eventually be ruled by it on a global scale. during the 90s i noticed this, but the difference back then is that it wasn't forced in our media, it was something that convinced people organically, but then they decided to get rid of that mentality and force it on people because they knew this would cause a race war which is within their goals, the less people to worry about due to them killing each other off is good for the global order, because it means there will be less people to worry about, which is also why they are flooding each nation with countless migrants to cause tensions to rise so we do go to war with ourselves, the herd will be willed down to a point until the world reaches a threshold of numbers that are easier to rule over. and at that point we will all be as slaves to the global order.
I'm not offended. I've never been offended by video game characters because first of all I'm not that damn sensitive also I'm not some dweeb who read opinion piece articles and loses my mind about it Bro you need to calm the fuck down for real making a video calling black people stupid just because they don't agree with your outrageous low tier hysterical opinion is about as dumb as you can get You know why you're upset for real right now because you put a video out about this before you got clowned for it and now you're still mad about it. Get over it bro either play the game or don't but stop with this goofy shit for real If you're going to talk about a game actually play the game first and then give your opinion but all this shit right here is nothing more than a clown show starring you
representation isn't fine and will never be. you create a story/whatever according with your imagination, and not to fill checkmarks. this is why every media nowadays fail. they can't create a story to fill the characters, their priority is to INCLUDE them, like it or not, in a forced way. not only the lore feels artificial, they also fill it with politics. the entertainment and plot development is totally cast away. in the story i am creating will appear lots of characters, but each single one of them have their purpose. i'm not simply including a gay or black character because i feel like i need to, they're all necessary for the plot. skin color and sexuality are just details, and my characters are more than that.
Representation is fine, better and necessary. FORCED representation isn't fine or better, be specific. Now the issue is how do you know a show is forcing this into the story and differ them from the ones that aren't? There are obvious tells but most of the time not, take Arcane for instance. Mel could've been included because she was black..but was she? Still an amazing show
@@wasneverherebefore the concept of representation is already forcing characters with race/ethnicity/etc. forcing those concepts so people in the real world can feel better with themselves. a fictional story don't need representation. it needs imagination and creativity. if you have inspiration on something in real life, thats one thing. but strictly saying "I NEED TO PUT A BLACK GUY HERE" will never work. Arcane is imo.
@@gundamdetractor337 that makes no sense, a 'concept' and the way that said concept is 'enforced' are two different things. Representation is 'the inclusion of multiple groups' usually to have diversity. That's the definition, how is that forced? " I need to put a black guy here" worked for Spider-verse didn't it? If games had NO representation you think they would sell well? You think AC Black Flag would be as popular with only Welsh and British ppl in it? Ppl are drawn to characters that they feel they can relate to, the more ways the better; so making things diverse draws in ppl from different races to buy the game. If AC was all about white ppl from the beginning it wouldn't be as popular cause it wouldn't have attracted many ppl from other races and that would've hurt sales by ALOT. Your opinion is fine but Arcane won an Emmy so the representation is clearly working.
You are absolutely right. This is definitely getting out of hand. It shows a lack of originality when they make it a point to change an already beloved movie or video game. This issue is in plain view and people just don't see it.
@jtheconcept4143 They're the new zombies of society. They roam the earth with one purpose, and that's to eat the brains of the weak. The logical thinkers are never infected with their BS.
Here’s a study, if I have a date at the most expensive(key word) Japanese Steakhouse in town then I decide to have my date chose to dine Hibachi. If the chef that comes out is anything other than a Japanese guy…It will feel off and out of place. (Now when I go to the low cost Japanese ones, I dont mind the Hibachi chef being of another ethnicity.) Lets continue: If you were to go to a Jamaican restaurant and all the staff was white people, it will feel off and out of place. If you were go to a Mexican restaurant and all the staff are black people, It will feel off and out of place. Basically that’s what’s been happening in Hollywood and Gaming. Things have been off and out of place for a while now.
Dude you hit 2 home runs in this video. First one was about people not ACTUALLY supporting the woke garbage they argue in favor of. Almost like they aren't actually gamers lol. Which leads into the next good point you made. That investors don't look at all this and say "it's just a video game". After all it is a multi million dollar industry. Great video J
@@jtheconcept4143The people hitting you with a "It's just a game bro" are apart of why things have gotten so bad In the gaming industry. Probably casuals who don't aren't seeing the bigger picture on what's happening.
No, the Idea is fine but the current execution of it is stupid. When don't wrong it can be seen as cringe or Blatant Propaganda, Done right it turns into popular culture. My problem with how Popular media has carried Black characters is they use us as "Carrier pigeons" for every other minority group in America. Its not just a representation of us even if its done by another person. Which is why we get the most out of representing ourselves. Its not like, we never done it before, Black American culture has effected the entire world but they also wanted to be included. Many debates on RUclips about what drives culture, the rich or the artist. This also ties into other conversations I've seen other Black Tubers post "The Problem is the Modern Black Community". Which is the same problem everyone had 20 years ago, How "Ghetto Culture" was the main driving force of Black Culture. The Black Community has popular cultures and subcultures each that coexist but rare to see that in media. Boondocks being the only recent example of different drives of Black Culture and representation seen in a single project.
It’s also because the powers that be only want to show one form of culture from us. That’s why I said if people have an issue with that then break away and start creating your own projects. We have to be responsible with representing ourselves better. It’s only up to us nobody else
@@jtheconcept4143 I fully agree with that. The main problem is even after created works those works still need to be published on platforms we don't have control over. Which effects funding, advertising, Staying power, etc. I'm a professional artist and film projectionist, over the years I helped Indie film makers get their projects on the big screen and organize special events in Chicago. Everyone criticize RUclips (Rightfully so) But i'll forever be grateful that its a platform that creates can get works out to the Public easy. In these modern times, i think the Black Community needs to think about how we want to represent ourselves moving forwards. I'm personally part of a Black Subculture that hasn't been seen on screen in ages. The culture I grew up in was strongly close to the Black Power movement.
Depends on the character so i only partly but NOT wholely agree with you. I like Mace Windu and Miles Morales. Seems folks have forgotten the savage complaints when George Lucas created a BLACK JEDI and when Brian Michael Bendis (comicbook writer) created a BLACK SPIDERMAN. The only "representation" i am AGAINST is racebending and genderbending pre-established characters who are NOT shape-shifters. Oddly enough i did NOT see anybody complain about Denzel Washingtons EQUALIZER trilogy and about Kang (MCU) and High Evolunary (Guardians of The Galaxy 3). "Ghetto culture" is done by choice of blacks themselves just like Black-on-black violence, crime and murder. Nobody is forcing blacks to do these things. If Hollywood never indulged in black "carrier pigeons" representation to show more blacks in several positive roles in media then the only things the world would know about blacks would have been crime, poverty, jazz, "ghetto culture", civil rights movement and slavery. Sidney Poitier, Eddie Murphy, Halle Berry and Denzel Washington (and very many others) whole never have made their mark in Hollywood and across the world. There would have NEVER been a "blaxploitation era" of hollywood. Then add tv series, comicbooks, novels and animation. Anybody else notice there are much LESS Black protagonists in MAINSTREAM Hollywood output (outside BET) now-a-days compared to pre-late 2000's?.... Less black sitcoms, less black lead action movies., Less black leads in scifi, etc. Outside superheroes media, there is barely anything with black leads in scifi and action thriller genres. Black action heroes are all aging out..... MJW, Wesley Snipes and Denzel. They are old. Now the only place to see blacks doing "cool sh!t" is in superhero media. Outside this is mostly as support cast for the majority of "representation" in Hollywood. On top of that more and more black male characters are gay in ensemble casts.... And there are no more "sexy hot black guy heart-throb" characters in MAIN STREAM high school shows and teen dramas anymore outside Black-ish franchise, Black Entertainment channels and Tyler Perry stuff. The new Dr. Who would have been a good opportunity but it is riddled with horribly bad writing and even worse execution. Utterly atrocious.... but at least the chick is pretty. Its only in videogames where i have seen playable black protagonists have increased.
@@shadowone01x99 You make excellent points, characters you've listed are examples of recent good execution but you're right that its in decline from before. Only point i'd like to add to is this ""Ghetto culture" is done by choice of blacks themselves just like Black-on-black violence, crime and murder. Nobody is forcing blacks to do these things." Because Ghetto Culture was the hot new product on the shelves Black Americans invested into it thinking profits. Other older Blacks at the time warned them about the harm popularizing that culture could do to the community but it was blown off as "You tripping, its just music and fun." I see the problem as not having a platform or store of our own to sell a verity of things around our culture and not just flood the market with Ghetto culture. Edit: Anyone remember the Black TV network : UPN?
If this were just Yasuke's story, it wouldn't matter if he was a Legendary Samurai, Shadow Ninja, Gay, the Pope, or Demigod. I have no reason to Criticize it, and no reason to Play it🥸 But Assassin's Creed has always been a game that looks back at its culture and history and adds just little fantasy elements to keep things interesting. It's not that I don't like Black Samurai, I just want to play as a Normal Male Japanese Samurai. That's all. Cause it's just Sane, Natural, Immersive. Yasuke is not representative of Japanese people, he's not representative of Samurai, moreover he's certainly not representative of Black people. Did black people even care about Yasuke before Netflix created their own Fantasy Novel this much?🤔 I was surprised the arrogance of them throught the Cleopatra and Snow White Race Swap Issues, but I was more scared than angry at Yasuke in AC. They are truly Broken on their inside. They have no Empathy or Respect for other's Cultures, Traditions, and Rights. But they are only concerned with convincing others that their horrible Cults is the only rightful thing and destroying and conquering those who do not accept it. They have done this in the past hundreds ago and they are no different now. It's just scary😢
I also find funny how Ubisoft in all their promos, characters descriptions want to portray and hype up ysuke as that insane hero. They said this is also why they choose him….When in reality Japanese history actually had lot of the real samurai (heroes warlords) that Ubisoft wished ysuke was and made up him to be in the game. Ubisoft deception and adjectives used for yasuke is pure wank. Since he was never described as such. Meanwhile…. To name a few Honda Tadakatsu, that was described as tall, charismatic, powerful with “frightening strength and wits” and known as “The Warrior who surpassed the strength of a Thousand Men!”. Nobunaga, Ysuke’s lord, named Tadakatsu “The Samurai among samurai”. And received the title of “The Immortal Samurai who surpassed Death Itself”. And all those “descriptions” are what was written for REAL historically about Tadakatsu. Truly the perfect and more authentic warrior and should have be the playable choice if Ubisoft really want a real warrior samurai, he is the real mighty legendary samurai that Ubisoft don’t want to acknowledge.
Fam, I'm Black, and I can tell you that he wasn't a samurai. He was a retainer. You can't become a samurai in just 15 months, which is how long he was in Japan before the Jesuits took him back after Oda was defeated.
My thing is, there's tons & tons of Samurai games out there, where you do play as a Japanese male. The one time there's a game with Yasuke as a playable character, people lose their minds. And actually this isn't even the first game he's been featured in. He's in Samurai Warriors 5 and I believe he's also a boss in Nioh. To my knowledge, there wasn't any outrage over that and if there was, it was hardly noticeable. Also, I'd like to add as both a Black and Arab man, the outrage over Cleopatra was ridiculous. Her father ea Greek, true enough. But it's never been said her mother was the same. In fact in my studies (I've studied ancient Egyptian history since I was a Small child), I've heard and read countless times that her mother was a native Egyptian aka a black woman. People crying over things they hardly know anything about.
In my country two time when it was time to sent representatives one to the Olympic another to a modeling show they send foreigners to represent us people that not have one day or year not even born in my country so you guest how that went 😞 it was an uproar. that's why I'm disappointed by this choice, choose a foreign calling him the spirit of the samurai in Japan and your a foreign western company is just cringe even if the girl was the onna bushi I'll live with that. As for the samurai games you talk about all them a japanese company only two main ones a by westerners got and samurai jack only one AAA from the two @solidusosiris
I am a black game dev. Indie. Never been part of the industry officially. This has always been my mindset, albiet it for somewhat selfish reasons. I didn't want a company creating sequels to my games, mechandising my characters, or taking 80% of my revenue. Regardless, I wanted my own. My company focuses on black characters. But I just want to make games. There's no idealogy or anything because that was never part of my mindset. I just wanna make games, and Im black, so most of my characters will be black. I feel like everything now is so political and I cant avoid being forced to one side or the other just by existing. I pray I can steer clear of "guilt by association" from people who call everything woke but also being a "fraud" because I don't hold 'woke' views. I also hate how people use 'woke' now because it definitely was a black term meaning "aware". That's been my little rant. In 10 years if I get into trouble, pull up this comment bruh 😂😂😂
I am white, but I love Friday, New Jack City, Dead Presidents, Soul Plane, Vampire in Brooklyn, Family Matters, Fresh Prince, Juice, House Party, Martin, Different World, Boyz N The Hood, Coming to America, Boomerang, and the list goes on. There are so many really good Black movies, and even non black centralized movies with Black protagonists like 48 Hrs and Man on Fire, with original Ideas and IPs where the people don't have to share my skin color to identify with them and really feel for the characters. We all bleed red. I would love an Assassin's Creed Game in Africa. I think that would be awesome and a great change in scenery. Maybe even teach me a little about the history there somewhat.
I’m all for any form of entertainment idc if the characters are black, brown, Asian, etc. as long as the entertainment doesn’t feel forced or politically toxic I’m interested. I wasn’t for the Live Action Disney Remake of Little Mermaid or anything where they race, gender, or sexuality swap unless they can make it work (which usually doesn’t). Entertainment has become too political and not entertaining
This is pretty much what I was trying to say when I voiced my opinion about this on Facebook. It was the typical black people getting upset over it and the one white savior. Was text book bro. Tired of seeing this.
100% with you. I think it's important for a black person to say this stuff. But even then people will just brush it off as self hatred, so you can't really win with someone who won't listen.
I have no problem with Yasuke being in the game. I have a problem with history being twisted and rewritten at all, especially for a game, and the absokuteky hypocritical reasoning behind making him the protagonist. 1 - He wasn't a samurai. Why? He has no japanese family name, he didn't own any land, he didn't recieve an education, he was in contact with Nobunaga for merely a year and in the only battle he supposedly participated in, he surrendered without a fight. Samurai were very similar to western knights when it came to their social status. Yasuke clearly had none of it. 2 - In every AC game so far the protagonist was a local. Makes sense, MC is supposed to blend in with the crowd. Now imagine Yasuke try to blend in among japanese people. He will LITERALLY stick out in a crowd, not just cause of skin color, but the height difference as well. 3 - While AC did feature historical figures here and there, it was usually done sparingly and we NEVER were allowed to play as one, which is kinda the point, youre supposed to be an unknown assassin.
I think if they play with the conspiracy side of yasuke like he’s a Bushi & only becomes a samurai due to a piece of Eden, or some other hidden means that would be interesting & a good reason to have him in the game.
I’m stupid actually lmao, I just use common sense and don’t lie. 😅. It’s amazing how smart you look when you just be honest. Shows you how much it’s lacking nowadays smh.
Good on you for not towing the line and leaving the plantation. Nice to see a educated black person thinking for themselves. Let's save the games industry
Great video, you pretty much articulated very clearly how belittling it is having 'representation' These corporations need to be called out with their white knight/saviour, white guilt crap
Speaking of Black Games and ones who aren't just piggybacking, Maybe check out Zau? It's interesting and, from my understanding, made by a Nigeria using Nigerian lore and was made as a nod towards the creator's father. That could be something, as well. I was following it and do intend to grab it, myself.
As someone that used to work for a well known HBCU ( i will not say the name for legal purposes) these colleges, have so much damn money, I mean millions, but they always choose to spend it on " sports, and extracurricular activities" while they are a whole generation behind on technology for students, their teaching curriculum is outdated, students failing left and right, and the building that faculty works for has the roof caving in and the dorms have mold..... and its the people with the money that just refuse to do the right thing in the black community, if you dont believe me, there is more black rappers donating money to "strippers" than their own community that they struggled in
Dude. Thanks for taking the time to research and speak your mind. Ive been saying a lot of the same shit for a long time now. It so frustrating to see the entertainment industry going this way. I just subbed.
The first 15s was fire. You hit it on the point. I'm for black representation when it matters as in their culture and people are great enough to create their own things and not be slotted in. I grew up in the 90s, 90s R&B, hip hop, rap, MJ, Allen Iverson, Denzel, Fresh Prince, Bad Boyz, Common, Blade... like back when Black Representation was dope and cool. As an Asian kid, that was like damn, it's a cool culture. Now... it's just not considered the same.. You can see the difference with natural insertion such as the Equalizer vs (insert Woke movie). Also as a Asian dude who is Filipino, Hawaiian, Japanese.. yes when I played Tenchu and then AC1 I had dreamed for this moment for AC Japan... and yeah nearly 20 years later, just sad. Ubi's company culture, and just this whole culture theft and disrespect using a DEI LGBTQ+ Foreigner hero again. Being called a racist by weirdos when its literally my culture's turn to be represented in the AC Universe. Whatever, I'm too old to fight this fight, but I'm sincerely appreciative of your sensical backing of what should've happened with AC Japan/Shadows.
That and i agree also,i wish they wanted to do something with African Lore, you don't see any Black person actually do a story with African Lore in video games much.
Im all in for representation as long as they don't bring woke nonsense and as long as they don't shove it down on everyone's throats i really don't care if they're black white Asian etc i just want awesome stories and cool characters with beautiful messages regardless of race and skin color besides race, skin color and nationally don't matter at all they never matter in the first place either you're a good person or a piece of crap that's why i support games like bomb rush cyberfunk and stellar blade and this stupid culture war needs to end right now beacuse its really got out of hand and yo j good video keep up the good and always speak the truth never give up👍💪
i respect u bro. u are such a sensible dude!!! thats exactly what we are talking about all these while.. but those woke people will just shout bigot or racist when they cant have any valid point to discuss.
Appreciate you my guy 👊. People just want to affirm their own beliefs. That’s why they don’t finish videos, but bitch about something that was addressed in the video lol. They pay attention to what they want to
I'm not Asian, but Wuxia, Chanbara, Manga, Anime, and The Romance of the Three Kingdoms in it's many interpretations are absolutely entertaining. "If you build it, they will come" seems like lost knowledge somehow. If you make a kickass game, with a fantastic story, and engaging gameplay people will show up and evangelize the everloving shit about how cool it is. Hell, make a kick ass game about Shaka Zulus conquest of Africa, make an Oregon trail like game about Mansa Musas pilgrimage, but don't only sell those games strictly on the cast and culture. People play games to *play games*, you have to weave the story and setting in and around that. All this to say, don't reskin and rewrite. Take notes, make your game, and be ready to potentially not be the brightest star on your first go around.
Bro I’ve been saying the same the thing for years. I’m tired of these woke companies trying to use our race for their own agenda. I’m also sick of being vilified every time we try to call out this nonsense.
Demanding representation in anything is such a wild concept to me, whether it's for a job position or a type of media (movies, games, comics etc) or anything else in between. And those who are the most vocal about it are westerners (mainly from NA) and people who are terminally online. Usually both. People from other parts of the world don't focus on this type of stuff nowhere near as much, nor do they spend most of their time on the internet. Representation is stupid and throws merit and creativity out of the window. Why does anyone need representation anyway? Don't we all understand simple ideas like working hard, being exceptional or having struggles, regardless of where you're from or what your preferences are? I guess not. When I write my novels, I never try to represent anybody. I just focus on the story and it's quality. Besides, true diversity comes from understanding all the different emotions that the story tries to convey to you as a reader/viewer. Joy, anger, sadness, fear, love, relief etc. That's how creative diversity manifests. Not through skin colour or overspecific sexual orientations. Do you have to be straight to appreciate a heterosexual relationship in a love story? Do you have to be black to undestand the struggles of slavery, as if the only people who ever were enslaved were black? Slavery existed in every part of the world throughout human history and in some places it exists still to this day. If you can't connect to a certain character who is written in a simple and comprehensible way because of a different gender or different racial background, that's on you. "I feel left out because the main character doesn't look like me." Bro, I've been a fan of Lara Croft for decades. Do you think I am a hot young rich British woman who has a fetish for tomb raiding and extreme sports? Do I even HAVE to be? Wtf are we even talking about? "I don't feel accepted in society." Who are THEY to accept YOU? Why do you need someone's approval to be whoever or whatever? Just do your own thing. Being part of a group or a team is overrated anyway. You have way more freedom when you run solo. Sorry for the long post. Btw, great content, man. You got a sub from me. 👍
Totally agree with you, I think most of the African/LGBTQ+ friends didn’t notice these origins behind this controversial issue were controlled by some company like SBI, they’re acting like they would speak for those who need help, and put the supporters money in their pocket at the same time just like Anita sarkeesian done. What I actually worried about is, when they successfully take the rights in gaming industry, all of the game will become those game what we don’t like gradually. I don’t cared about the skin color, the ethnicity, even the gender, what I want is when I got home after work or in the weekend, there is a game that I can relax or immerse myself in it as long as it’s a good game. Forgive me if the grammar is a bit strange. 😂Here’s your Asian subscriber.
i like Yasuke and i knew of his story way before all of this happened. there is the makings of a good game here that plays with the idea of being ostracised by the people around him for having a different skin color. but as the game goes on he could find his place in the world kind of like how guts finds the band of the hawk. it's a shame that the only people i would trust to make such a game is FromSoftware.
My problem with assassins creed is the pricing. This is a single player game where the push is towards the multi player business model. You dont even get a complete game unless you spend what.. an extra 20 or 30 dollars or some shit? Unless you go for a monthly subscription. A monthly subscription for a single player game. Im not that stupid. That lost me right there. Im not about to fall for that shit. It doesn't make any difference who is in it, or what the story is about. I refuse to be ripped off by a money grubbing company, looking to rip me off for every dime they can, and I'm sure as fuck not going to be bullied into paying for shit I dont want to buy. They want my money? Then they can make something I want to buy. Its not a debate.
If they want to represent Blacks of African decent, then they should actually try doing some proper research on stories that actually came from Africa, like instead of Blacksploiting the Danish story of The Little Mermaid, they could've done a story based on the legends of the African Water Spirit "Mami Wata", That would've been Much better than simply placing a Black person in a story that no Black person was ever even a part of to begin with, because otherwise That would be considered Cultural Appropriation, with is Absolutely Not Proper Representation! It's just plain offensive to both sides.
I said it before and I'll say it again, man. When I was 10 or 11 years old, I went to see The Empire Strikes Back. I liked Luke, I liked Han, I liked Leia. They were all cool. They were heroes. The underdogs fighting the evil Empire, right? But, you know who I wanted to be when I grew up? Lando. That dude was smooth. Charming, handsome, ran a city in the clouds. He even had a cape. I didn't need to "see myself" on screen. That's right. A 10 year old white boy wanted to be Lando when he grew up.
I don't get that "we need X representation everywhere". I'm neither an ogre, talking donkey or a princess but I love Shrek movies. Regarding the AC Shadows. Black protagonist is not a problem for me (original story, not a race swap so it's all good). If they do it like in The Last Samurai (2003) and keep the worldbuilding consistent and accurate to how would people be shocked seeing foreigner in their village or on the roads (some would be racist, some would like to help, some would have problems, some would be shocked etc.) then it might be a good story
The achaemenid empire had many dark skinned people and in fact many people whos ancestors have lived in persian for centuries whom would be considered "black" and many of them are not descendants of the arab slave trade simply native citizens. Dark skinned people are more common throughout history than most people realize. Its in fact more common than not. Pale skins is in fact more of a modern phenomenon because just like blue eyes and red hair it's a ressesive genetic trait. Only through centuries of mostly inbreeding with closer related people who also showed a light skinned phenotype were the modern Persian people show typically pale skin. Even still there are many people who would be considered black in modern Iran.
Well the PoP may be my favorite gaming character.. I’m part Persian and a lot of us do look white.. But there are many Middle Easterners that are dark skinned too.. My main issue with the new PoP was that you weren’t actually playing as the Prince like every other game in the series.. Kinda a head scratcher..
Everything feels so committee approved now, rather than artistically driven. I can't imagine how annoying it must be to be black and the only characters you have to look forward to are either race-swapped hand-me-downs, or political mouthpieces, (especially given how rich and untapped African folklore and history is)
I never cared for representation in media. I grew up watching alien and mutant crime fighting bros beat up other aliens and mutants. My favorite power ranger back in the day was Billy and he was the nerdy white kid. Relatability is far more importing.
Great point my guy, like Jordan said: "Republicans buy sneakers, too". Make a good product period, don't label yourself or limit your reach just to virtue signal to a specific demographic because you make it look like they are weak and need your help. Gaming was meant to be enjoyed by everybody, all this divisive shit is getting on my nerves.
It wouldn’t be complaining if it was done correctly. In my old neighborhood there are black owned businesses everywhere. It just needs to happen and not be announced like it’s a statement or something
14:09 FACTZ!!! I've seen enough movies/TV Series to know even video games are a BIG discussion to generate money/faces in front of a game. WHY do you think #StellarBlade was a hit! #Just_Sayain! I take ORIGINALthem #Hand_Me_Down! 🙅🏿♂️
Problem is there's always gonna be normies that don't ask questions and blindly consume w/e they get served if there's a preestablished brand name behind any product and the cod of single player arpgs asscreed fits the bill
The corporate representation in entertainment and gaming is nothing more than dumb pondering for the money that also gets censored and removed in other countries around the world.
I hate the way Fiction gets written now. Instead of creating characters they create stereotypical and ideological representations of people and identities that the writers have no knowledge over. They just give these characters their quirks and identities to appease idiots that don't even play the games and shareholders that have 0 idea of what goes into a story whatsoever. Personally I'm half white half mexican. Maybe once in a while I'll find that character that may or may not be like me and I resonate with them. But I don't need a character to look like me to like them. I need them to be a deep, and interesting character that has more to them besides an identity or skin color. For example, (i think this guy is mexican btw correct me if I'm wrong.) But one of my favorite characters is Dominic Santiago from Gears of War, and it's not because of his skin or whatever else. It's because he is a multi-faceted character with his own goals, that would go out of his way for anyone, his skin and his identity don't matter because for him and the rest of the crew the biggest thing on their minds is stopping the Locust from destroying the planet and the human race. Characters need more than just one point to their personality.
There are 2 kinds of representation. representation has been present in some of the greatest games ever made. But capital *R* Representation? For its own sake? Nah. It’s belittling.

Representation **without originality** is just poor imitation.
So true!!
He just gave his shield to who was worth it
The way I see it if we are race swapping it should be across the board. Why don’t we get a White Panther in Africa then
representation these days is merely just repackaged tokenism.
it's still racisim, but they get away with it because it focuses on making these roles a possibility by force into our media instead of doing it organically.
what other people get annoyed by is forced diversity just to check a box as ultimately it's all about forcing behaviors via our Overload's Larry Fink and his investment groups BlackRock and Vanguard in order to notch up that social credit scoring board because we are slowly turning into china and will eventually be ruled by it on a global scale.
during the 90s i noticed this, but the difference back then is that it wasn't forced in our media, it was something that convinced people organically, but then they decided to get rid of that mentality and force it on people because they knew this would cause a race war which is within their goals, the less people to worry about due to them killing each other off is good for the global order, because it means there will be less people to worry about, which is also why they are flooding each nation with countless migrants to cause tensions to rise so we do go to war with ourselves, the herd will be willed down to a point until the world reaches a threshold of numbers that are easier to rule over.
and at that point we will all be as slaves to the global order.
I'm not offended. I've never been offended by video game characters because first of all I'm not that damn sensitive also I'm not some dweeb who read opinion piece articles and loses my mind about it
Bro you need to calm the fuck down for real making a video calling black people stupid just because they don't agree with your outrageous low tier hysterical opinion is about as dumb as you can get
You know why you're upset for real right now because you put a video out about this before you got clowned for it and now you're still mad about it. Get over it bro either play the game or don't but stop with this goofy shit for real
If you're going to talk about a game actually play the game first and then give your opinion but all this shit right here is nothing more than a clown show starring you
Ubisoft is disrespecting Japanese people
representation isn't fine and will never be. you create a story/whatever according with your imagination, and not to fill checkmarks. this is why every media nowadays fail. they can't create a story to fill the characters, their priority is to INCLUDE them, like it or not, in a forced way. not only the lore feels artificial, they also fill it with politics. the entertainment and plot development is totally cast away.
in the story i am creating will appear lots of characters, but each single one of them have their purpose. i'm not simply including a gay or black character because i feel like i need to, they're all necessary for the plot. skin color and sexuality are just details, and my characters are more than that.
Still an amazing show
@gundamdetractor337 ... I couldn't say it better myself. 👏👍
@@wasneverherebefore not gonna read all that so i will answer only the part that i read: yeah, they would sell well.
You are absolutely right. This is definitely getting out of hand. It shows a lack of originality when they make it a point to change an already beloved movie or video game. This issue is in plain view and people just don't see it.
They choose not to, they’re too emotionally invested in their narrative that they don’t wanna know what’s right. It’s safer that way

If this were just Yasuke's story, it wouldn't matter if he was a Legendary Samurai, Shadow Ninja, Gay, the Pope, or Demigod. I have no reason to Criticize it, and no reason to Play it🥸
But Assassin's Creed has always been a game that looks back at its culture and history and adds just little fantasy elements to keep things interesting. Did black people even care about Yasuke before Netflix created their own Fantasy Novel this much?🤔
I was surprised the arrogance of them throught the Cleopatra and Snow White Race Swap Issues, but I was more scared than angry at Yasuke in AC.
Thank you for saying how I been feeling
The whole thing reminds me of teachers pets.. Favoritism will always cause contempt.. And, I’m sure the powers that be know this
I am a black game dev.

I have plenty of black family IN THE REAL WORLD... FOR REAL TOO. and Japanese friends and colleagues.
To a company, a black person is no different than a Cartoon Tiger.
Also, "it's just video games," is an Appeal to Triviality argument; a logical fallacy.
That’s exactly what I want when I go home lol 👌 Thanks for the sub!
i like Yasuke and i knew of his story way before all of this happened. there is the makings of a good game here that plays with the idea of being ostracised by the people around him for having a different skin color. but as the game goes on he could find his place in the world kind of like how guts finds the band of the hawk.
it's a shame that the only people i would trust to make such a game is FromSoftware.
Fromsoft would kill it, but that’s probably just my bias talking lol
Bro I can't agree more with that you are talking about, keep telling the truth
Thanks for making me feel seen, the gaslighting is exhausting.
True but all the companies are doing it too . Price gouging
Yeah the pricing been the issue
If they want to represent Blacks of African decent, then they should actually try doing some proper research on stories that actually came from Africa, like instead of Blacksploiting the Danish story of The Little Mermaid, they could've done a story based on the legends of the African Water Spirit "Mami Wata", That would've been Much better than simply placing a Black person in a story that no Black person was ever even a part of to begin with, because otherwise That would be considered Cultural Appropriation, with is Absolutely Not Proper Representation!
It's just plain offensive to both sides.
Well said in the video ! Yeah so many people out there as myself we are tired of this cheap activist representation and DEI bs
I wholeheartedly agree with your viewpoints man I'm definitely subbing keep the dope content coming 💪
Great video J
You hit the nail on the head. Love you're content bro! Keep it up. Gaming has been hijacked and I hope it turns around
THANK YOU BROTHA THANK YOU
I respect you man. What you said is what Morgan Freeman said about black history month. Well said.
Representation is a good thing... When it done correctly!
Rare
You are the man good sir 👏. Just Subscribed! 👍
0:14 TRU!!!
You speaking true facts 💯
It is not 'Soul Food', it is just table scraps.
A lot of people didn’t realize it, but even the Princess and the Frog was a hand me down from a German story.
I would buy games from a none woke black owned company
I think we all would if it’s a good game
8:00 To be fair, that's still 300k more than concord.
The token black guy has become the token black game. Hit the nail on the head about identity over solid quality 👏
Persians are not black. Prince of Persia is not a black character.
@@Mintcar923 the prince of persia reboot in 2008 didn't have you play as the prince of persia
@@digimon5433 I haven’t finished it so can’t accurately comment on it.. I’m just saying he’s my favorite character and you usually play as him
Yeah. Black people aren't the only people in the world with dark skin.
Everything feels so committee approved now, rather than artistically driven. I can't imagine how annoying it must be to be black and the only characters you have to look forward to are either race-swapped hand-me-downs, or political mouthpieces, (especially given how rich and untapped African folklore and history is)
I just want to say thank you brother for speaking the facts.
i agree make your own stuff, and support would you like . At the end of the day its there product, there story.
Absolutely 💯
Preach! 💯 Facts!
Another fire video. Keep talking that shit my boy
👊🔥
I never cared for representation in media. I grew up watching alien and mutant crime fighting bros beat up other aliens and mutants. My favorite power ranger back in the day was Billy and he was the nerdy white kid. Relatability is far more importing.
Great point my guy, like Jordan said: "Republicans buy sneakers, too". Make a good product period, don't label yourself or limit your reach just to virtue signal to a specific demographic because you make it look like they are weak and need your help. Gaming was meant to be enjoyed by everybody, all this divisive shit is getting on my nerves.
Your are spit some cold hard facts man. I respect that.
Appreciate it 👊💯
This is why I follow your channel. You think like me.
Great minds think alike 😎
Don't hate representation. If it's done right I don't have problem. Replace men by black women that don't need men is a problem.
If black people created their own film studio, there would be complaints of segregation, Bollywood seems to work though.
It wouldn’t be complaining if it was done correctly. In my old neighborhood there are black owned businesses everywhere. It just needs to happen and not be announced like it’s a statement or something
@@jtheconcept4143 Agreed!👍
You ever read Amos Wilson books? If not, definitely check out some of his vids or books.
All gingers are gone because of Zendaya appearance in Homecoming. Look how they masacred Mary Jane.
BARS
14:09 FACTZ!!! I've seen enough movies/TV Series to know even video games are a BIG discussion to generate money/faces in front of a game. WHY do you think #StellarBlade was a hit! #Just_Sayain! I take ORIGINALthem #Hand_Me_Down! 🙅🏿♂️
It’s absolutely naive to believe games aren’t being used by investors behind the scenes to push messaging
Love your channel bro.
🙏🔥
I support this message lol
I want Assassin’s Creed: Da Hood.
Falcon was a great character, I still get mad everytime I see him in this ridiculous clownsuit they put him in...
Remember when people attacked MultiVersus because someone used Velma's special attack on LeBron James.

I agree, represe tation is annoying in gaming. Can we just get games for the sake of FUN. No bullsh!t a$$ representation or anything
Look to indi studios for that lol
There are 2 kinds of representation. representation has been present in some of the greatest games ever made.
But capital *R* Representation? For its own sake? Nah. It’s belittling.
