Ubisoft ruined their reputation so much that they can’t make a game like this anymore. Nobody will be believe that this game was made for historical reasons. It’s all ESG related
Saddens me a lot as a kid i loved ninjas and what not. When i played Assassins Creed and Tenchu was like Assassins Creed could totally pull off a ninja setting. When Grummz told me the original pitch for Assassins Creed in Japan a monk who became a ninja to kill Nobunaga because his sword was a piece of eden. I was like ok that game would of been cool. What it feels like is SJW Assassins Creed.
Upon opening RUclips channel "Ubisoft Japan" you can see that Negative votes make 95% of the Japanese Trailer of AC: Shadows. So.... basically Japanese hate this choice of character 5x times more than an average person in the west. The guy from your video, saying that "The Japanese want this character and embraced it", is just straight lying.
No assassin's Creed game was made with history in mind.The literal point of AC games is that all of human history is a lie written by The templars to hide the assassins , Templars and a godlike alien race called the Isu. You're complaining about historical revisionism in a game that takes place in an alternate history. That doesn't make any sense. Did you get mad that Leonardo DeVinci was half alien god in AC2? That's inaccurate history, will you get offended on behalf of all Italians?

The real problem is that they are trying to prop yasuke up as this legendary figure like hes Hanzo Hattori, or musashi minamoto, or tokugawa ieyasu, no the dude was a litteral foot note remembered because he was black and that's it. Like to act as if this is some rags to riches story like idk Toyotomi Hideyoshi who litterally went from a peasant to dieing as the ruler of japan which again took many years of loyal service to even be considered worthy of being a samurai, but yea yasuke totally earned that title within a years time and definitely died a samurai right? Ghost of Tsushima was a love letter, it was the thing of folk tales and legends. It was not accurate but it was ok even to the Japanese because the intent was to tell a good story and show love.
I do not feel any type of love from Ubisoft just the cold hard gaze of pander and greed.
I am asian and I hate when asian and black characters are used in western media just for the sake of representation like using a card.
Don't take this the wrong way but it would help a bit if you were a bit more specific about your nationality because the term Asian doesn't really narrow it down since Asia is a big continent.

I mean he might have or might have not been a samurai. But we simply can't be 100% sure about either because the term "samurai" of Sengoku Jidai period was not the same as during and after Edo period, which is the period that has shaped how we in the west see and know Samurai.

Yasuke wasn't a Samurai. He wasn't elevated to the Samurai Caste. Samurai is a class of Nobility. Yasuke was Bushi, wich is a term for professional soldier. All Samurai warriors are Bushi, but not all Bushi are Samurai. He was Nobunaga's bodyguard. He was a giant at 6'2 when the average height was much smaller. He was also extremely dark, like so black you lose him at night black ⚫️. They described him as black as ink. He looked pretty imposing to most people. That being said, this game is gonna be a dumpster fire since sweet baby and Ubisoft are involved.
The multiple editions and price tags also don’t help. I’m interested in Yasuke more than Naoe if I’m being honest but AC hasn’t been really great for a while now. I’m gonna wait for a sale for when it’s like $10 - $20 and only then will I even consider getting it on sale.

The only reason it kept getting blamed on 'historical accuracy' is because everyone is too afraid to talk about the actual elephant in the room, so we got attempts at gas lighting instead that it was it's historical accuracy that was the problem and nothing to do with checking woke boxes.

Alright, to Those who have seen people been using Nioh with William Adam and curious about what that is about
Nioh is a Soul like game with the character William Adam who is actually is real and based on the man William Adams an Englishman who did become a samurai due to his long service with Tokugawa Leyesu and have enter many battle in his lord service
while the game exaggerate a bit like william adam is welsh, the myth of japan is real like oni, kappa and etc etc and the insane power of the spirit plus etc etc
the story is still loosely follow how william adam would come into service of Tokugawa Leyesu e and gain his samurai training as in the beginning, while William is capable in wielding a katana, he using it like a sword instead of a katana
it only when he come into Leyesu Service then he begin to use the katana like it was suppose to be and after a long service in game, William Adam would then Earn the Samurai Title upon him
Yusuke does not have this experince, all we know that he simply a retainer to Oda Nobunaga and have fight to protect his master at the end of Nobunaga life
he does not gain the samurai title nor gain a katana mastery like the trailer show, at best yusuke would wield the katana like william at the begining of nioh, like a sword and not a katana

the biggest reason for me why i think Nioh is ok is because japanese company made and it was Japanese people who worked on it the publisher is also Japanese, if they felt it was appropriate and made that game then that kinda settles it for me, im not gonna be offended about something they themselves made and felt was okay, im not a blue haired twitter goblin but i can recognize when WE aka the west are diversifying another’s culture in media thats wrong to me, because thats us messing with their history. Think if it was like this, lets say assassins creed never took place in africa and people wanted it for like a decade, finally it happens and its about an obscure historical person who is a white man who went to africa to help the native tribes there fight against their enemies and essentially made an african story for the first time and feature no black guy as a protagonist, how would you feel? Yasuke should not be the main character. He should be a dlc story that is separate from the main game like freedom cry for black flag, i dont want him not to be in it but for the first assassins creed in japan the main characters should be japanese dont remove the japanese from the first japan based game. It was fucking awesome my favorite pirate game of all time because it had great story and great combat (loved the naval combat). They invented a character where they could have easily made him west indian/african/ indian but they didn't an it didn't matter cause the game was great.

Ubi chose Yasuke for marketing reasons to attract neglected audiences, to increase the number of players and more money ;) The last time we had a black protagonist was 10 years ago, this is the truth, period.
Nothing against black people, it is the Ubi's business decision here in question because they have deliberately chosen this story over many other and more popular real Japanese characters and stories during that era.
Why add this brute Samurai in the game? Wasn't the ninja enough? Of course not. Follow the money! Without a proper hack/slash, protagonist Ubi wouldn't be able to sell the game to a huge audience of gamers and particularly those who didn't like the Mirage and rated low ;)

So I'll enjoy reading the Assassin's Wiki and all about the Japanese Brotherhood, Master Hatori and his ninjas who have fought the Templars in Japan since 1549 to bring order on the island and protect the artefact, the sword of Eden.
You carry on getting hyped with this duo of protagonists who are nothing more than Avengers tightened on another family drama and run on a parallel narrative with Assassin's Creed.
My thing is why couldn’t they just make the original AC Shadows a game starring both male and female Japanese protagonist, have Yasuke a major side character and crucial key to the turning point of the story, Build off that and come out with AC Shadows 2, and have that Be Yasuke’s full story of how he got to japan??? No?? Wouldn’t that have been much better??, I think Ubisoft got trigger happy ran across Yasuke’s origin story and fell in love with it, and totally scratched there original Idea, To me, that’s how it feels, it feels rushed, AC Shadows II Yasuke wouldve been hard, and if they ever do Yasuke main game, please just stick to 1 main protagonist, like shii bruh

There are no survivng documents that Yasuke referred to as a samurai, so we can't say he absolutely was. He may have been active in battle, but so were Ashigaru, who are warriors, but not samurai. We don't want "an Asian character", we specifically want a Japanese character. Not Chinese, not Korean, Japanese.

Not sure from what country in Africa Yasuke is supposed to be from. But the artstyle does make him look more… I don’t know… African American than African, like his shade is much more in line with a contemporary black audience than how a subsaharan African man would look like.

@@SwavaePersonally I didn’t find Nioh as good because he seemed out of place not only for being a foreigner but also just as a character in the game. Still, his real life counterpart achieved and played a big part in securing Tokugawa’s control of Japan. Nioh 2 was tons better without him and many people felt the same way. He is also not wrong that Japanese people can do whatever tf they want, considering it is their history.
It’s fine to have a game be in a past setting with history but it should not be revisioned to the point of changing history, or else they will make an embarrassment of themselves. Unfortunately, many people including the devs are saying Yasuke had more of an impact than he did with Japanese history. Needless to say, us Japanese ppl are pissed lol

Just because you guys want to twist history and make it sound like he was a legendary Samurai doesn't change the Truth. I've been enjoying Japanese games, dramas, movies, etc. for 30 years and I've never even heard the name Yasuke except in recent years. They deliberately looked for the 'most different' person in Feudal Japan history and chose him not just as the lead character, but also as the Lead-of-the-Japan-Creed over all other Japanese members. It should've been a Japanese Ninja for the AC franchise in Japan, because Ninjas are literally assassins by name.
No one has a problem with him existing in history. (Him as a fighter in history is unknown.) People have a problem when a specific person leads a nation or creed-of-nation if they have complete foreign origins of said nation.

I've repeated this numerous times:
Yasuke was decked out in armor you'd ONLY see on Clan Leaders, Lords or Commanders. It is way too ornate and regalia for a retainer EVEN if you are pro Yasuke being Samurai. His helm would have been Very Plain there wouldn't be neck guards on his shoulders The design on the Chest plate wouldn't be there it'd be plain scale male. That has to be the worst part of Ubi supplanting Yasuke into the main role they Elevated him to a position Via the Armor he could not have ever reached. his lord was Oda Nobunaga the person who would have worn the Ornate armor was Nobunaga Yasuke was never elevated beyond Retainer (Samurai or not) he would only have Retainer Armor (History doesn't exactly put him in any battles except the end) where he'd even have Qualified to be given Armor in the first place. It's far more likely he lived in Cloth clothing the entire time even if he was a Samurai.
Also jacob from AC syndicate was confirmed to be bi sexual so expect yosake or naoe to reveal some sort of gay sexuality once it releases . its going to check that box as well
